Went for a Sunday roast after a friend recommended it. We were forgotten until my husband went to get drinks. The female staff member was friendly but the food was grim . The roast pots were hard as was the veg. The beef was lovely but the Turkey looked awful with large dark grey patches in the centre of each slice. Barely any gravy and the yorkshires were flat and rubbery. The staff did ask if everything was ok, we said it was as we felt a bit embarrassed. The place was not busy at all when we arrived but a fairly large party arrived about half an hour after us so maybe this was the reason the food was not good as they may have been focused on this.

Sunday roast with family was lovely, the staff were soooo friendly and had a cute dog behind the bar. It stayed out of the way and was well behaved, shame to see bad reviews regarding this as it was not an issue at all! Our first visit and would definitely come back. Good food, good service and quirky little cosy pub! Very welcoming staff.

Not happy that I was charged an extra £2 for a bit of gravy on top of the in my view, expensive £18 for the pie mash and veg I ordered. I told the barman I thought it was not right, and after all it was just a spoon of bistro granules and hot water! I thought this was mean and won't be going back.

what a shambles and total disappointment. my family and i go out regular on a sunday [usually double figures with us all this time only 9 ppx] we got there 10mins before booking, table not ready [not really an issue if that was the only issue] we waited whilst tables were moved so we could all sit-that was all they did no laying of table- when food eventually came my sister had to go to other area taking cutlery off of tables as none were given to us. eventually we had our drinks ordered taken however, they took ages to arrive we still hadnt got them by the time the others had turned up. during this point we heard another customer go up to the bar to cancel their order as it "was taking too long" we got our drinks but never got the water we asked for. after an age our food order was taken. starters - we never got and mains. our mains were eventually brought out [we been in there over an hour by this time] and we said we havent had our starter -waitress asked if we wanted her to go and get them...."dont think so now the mains are coming out" food looked dreadful. the roasts-veg barely warm, yorkshire pudding flat as a pancake and tough looking, roast pots hardly cooked, i had ordered a veggie roast and upon seeing the meat ones i canx my order. my son ordered pasta but his garlic bread never arrived. one person ordered veggie burger but with and egg-this wasnt there when we told the waitress his egg is on his order she said "its going from bad to worse" too darn right it is!!!. they did bring out an egg when he was halfway through. my hubby had meat burger in very dry roll -no relish just half cucumber. we weren't offered any sauces, no mustard, tom sauce ect. my father who has dementia loves his food and its the first time ive never seen him clear his plate, infarct he left quite a bit. yes this was mothers day and they were busy but we had booked [for 15.00 ]and booked well in advance, we were told someone had over booked and there wasnt enough staff on, sorry not good enough. yes we got a bit of money off of the bill-but not enough, whilst trying to sort the bill out the bar staff were getting so flustered and adding up what we owed wrong, we just wanted to get out of there and i needed to get home to get something to eat as I was starving, not having eaten anything more than a banana that day. as mentioned at the start we go out on a sunday a lot around dover/folkestone/hythe/dymchurch and this is by far the worse place -in all the places we have gone we have not had to complain about our meal. oh and the toilets were awful what a mess. thank you kings head for a very unenjoyable mothers day

Popped in to try the monday evening chinese night. 3 courses and a drink for £15 per person! So amazing price, right? But the biggest surprise was the quality of food, all made on site(was expecting microvave brought in meals for that price!!)The food is exceptional!!! Had crispy chilli beef for main and it makes top china town restaurants seem substandard. The chef came out and even gave the dog some sausages (yes i can take my dog in there too!). The waitress and bar staff are so nice and helpful. I cannot speak highly enough of the place and staff and now frequently travel to hythe just to have a meal there!

Sadly I had a fairly terrible experience here. We had a table of four, two eating (simple, quick bite). We were in a rush, asked when it’d be, and they were accommodating. Ten minutes after my friend’s food was delivered, I asked about mine. Ten further minutes after that, they came back and told me it was cooking and would be another 5/10 mins. Serving two meals 25/30 minutes apart is not that great. I then had to leave, cancelled the food. And the chef had the cheek to come out to the table and rather forthrightly tell me how she did her job, couldn’t understand why two people wanted to eat at the same time, and refused to believe anything was wrong. She was frankly so unprofessional and she really was out of line. Saying that, I had a lovely pint of beer.

You have never seen such a superb Fish and Chips supper; good other options but the normal menu was suspended to cope with Covid limitations. Friendly chatty staff with time to talk.Inside it is quaint and despite the TVs showing Euro matches, it was calm and relatively quiet. Manager dealt professionally with people getting too close to others.Menu was broad enough for a few suppers; if I lived un Hythe I would not easily wait for the full menu to return.

On arrival we had to wait a long time to order drinks. Ordered a real ale and got given a lager. Had to ask someone to take our food order. The starters were good but the main course was so bad. The roast lamb and roast beef was really tuff. I couldn’t even cut the beef with a knife .It had been microwaved so long the meat had curled up. We had to order condiments and the veg was cold and hard. Overall the worst meal we have had. The bill was reduced by the cost of one meal but really should have only paid for the starters and one main meal. The beer was pulled flat and will not be returning.

Visited for a drink and a meal, the omelette my partner ordered was cold and the salad was dry and very uninspiring. We had to ask for salt and pepper and the salt was delivered in a massive supermarket container. On complaining the landlady insisted on arguing, she said well the cheese is melted it must be warm, and made the evening a disaster, will not be going back.

My other half and I visited to eat on a Tuesday evening. We received a warm welcome and were served drinks straight away. The menu was a typical pub restaurant menu with a fair amount of choice. We weren't offered any specials for that day. The food arrived quickly and we both enjoyed our meals. The open fire was ablaze but the restaurant was very chilly. The main pub door was permanently open, not good on a chilly October evening. There didn't seem to be any heating apart from the open fire. Having been here on a few occasions, but not recently, I was hoping the pub and restaurant might have been smartened up with the arrival of the new landlords. It hadnt. And lacked any nice homely touches. Overall we had a nice but chilly and good value for money evening.

What a place! The Kings head is by far the best pub to go to in the town, we were just visiting hythe for a few days but nothing else we found comes close to this place. The breakfast is so good, and the burger was incredible. Drinks are cheap but good quality and it's run by a wonderfully friendly, kind and bright woman and her family. Called in today without booking. New manager only moved in 13 days ago but has already made restaurant more cosy and welcoming. Sunday menu is choice of roasts, brisket, lamb shoulder and pork + fish and veggie option . Brisket and lamb were absolutely excellent, as were the veg. Desserts were to die for - we had gypsy tart and the baked cheesecake - and all prepared in house. We haven't been in King's Head since Nathan left but as the new team seem to be doing all the right things it looks as though we will be regulars again.

Not sure if ownership or management has changed again very recently? Team last night seemed to be working hard to reestablish reputation. Short menu of relatively standard pub fare was well turned out at a good price. Hythers need to get out and support local pub restaurants. Bell is also a new team as is the Castle in Saltwood. Won’t be perfect in early days but without customers we will quickly have more dark pubs ( viz the Dukes Head) to go with the dark banks. Not a good look.

My wife and I had an overnight stop in Folkestone and just wanted some good pub food, found it. We were able to park on the High street, which was great, and headed for the sign that was drawing us in - Shepherd Neame, oh, and they do food too, result. Beers ordered(excellent as well)and time to pick our way through the comprehensive menu. Unfortunately the stew was not available so my wife went for plan b, liver and onions with mash and gravy, awesome dish and very very tasty. Initially I went for steak pie but then my eyes were distracted by the steak and ale pudding, oh joy, steak and ale and a suet pudding, brilliant. The waitress, who managed to not only sort us out, but also a pub full of eaters, was great, friendly, informative and really helpful, sorry I can’t remember her name but she had an awesome Scottish accent and was so so helpful. The meal was preceded by our choice of a starter, Garlic bread with cheese, now this wasn’t your normal garlic bread with cheese, ie, a bit of cheese in the middle of a slice of baguette, oh no, this was a mountain of cheese with just the right amount of garlic, and a helping of salad to distract you from the awesomeness of the garlic bread - with cheese, it was great. The mains arrived and they were great, I went for chips with mine, oh yes, chips and gravy, it’s a thing and it’s bloomin lovely. We were happy with our lot, but oh no, there was more to come. The vegetables arrived on a separate dish and were very well cooked/presented and enjoyed. Another nicety was the fact the mains came on hot plates, a hot dish should be served on a hot plate, and they were. All in all, a great experience, give it a go, did I mention the beer, that’s awesome too

My wife and I used to eat here on a regular basis but since the new owners have been in the food is terrible. The previous visit was awful and the food was barely edible. We thought this was unusual so gave it another chance. Sadly the second visit was even worse and even the waitress agreed. There can't be a proper chef in the kitchen because no decent chef would serve up food that bad. The owners don't give a s**t so I do not see this place lasting much longer

Unplanned visit but popped in for lunch. Friendly greeting on our arrival and we chose to eat in the courtyard garden. Service was friendly and efficient. We ordered the goats cheese tart with pesto and one of the burgers. The burger was good but the tart was delicious!! Inventive presentation of the tart and perfectly cooked...rather too much caramelised onion chutney for my liking but otherwise the combination of flavours of this meal was wonderful. Compliments to the chef for sure!

Visited to celebrate my mum's 82 Birthday. Our meal was delicious and the staff were so helpful with Mums gluten free requirements and were happy to provide a lovely gluten free cake 'birthday surprise' for dessert.

Four of us visited Saturday evening, two fish and chip meals - the fish was an excellent portion - absolutely delicious and great value for money. The other orders were for pies which were good old fashioned home cooking and full of flavour - well done chef, spot on. Waiting staff are very attentive and friendly, Landlord and Landlady are bubbly and great to be around.

Stopped here for a quick beer on a Wednesday afternoon. The landlord’s very friendly and the Shepherd Neame beer is good. We sat outside in the rear garden area - which was pretty scruffy and untidy. Otherwise ok though.

First time in the King’s Head,Hythe and had an enjoyable drink in the light and airy bar before having a meal in the dining area. My fish pie arrived piping hot with a lovely crispy cheese topping and my husband’s Steak & Ale pie had a light crispy pastry and was delicious. Good atmosphere and very friendly staff. We would definitely drop in to the King’s Head again.

4 of us had dinner on Friday night. The service was good, food was excellent. Our food came out all together, piping hot, well seasoned and cooked. Couldn't fault it. This was our second visit and will be back again.

Had two delicious meals here, both with lovely fresh vegetables and good portion size. Lots of choice and would do the drive again just to eat here!

We visited the Kings Head recently and were very pleased with both the food and the service, everyone made us feel welcome and the servings are very generous at reasonable prices. A wide range of drinks all served with a smile, definitely be visiting again.

I used to go there on every visit to Hythe and loved it. Sadly it recently changed management and I was very disappointed during my last visit. The place lost its upmarket homely feel, with a below average menu. The tables in the 'beer garden' were filthy.

Outstanding food and very good/friendly service. I usually go to The Kings Head for a few beers with my dog during the week but have never eaten there. Decided to book a table for 7 and I have to say the food was some of the best I’ve experienced in a pub. Very good, highly recommended and will definitely head back soon.

On a 2 week bus tour and on May 19th we were hoping for a longer lunch stop so we could catch part of the wedding. Arrived in Hythe just after 12 pm and was able to find 2 seats at the bar at the Kings Head right in front of the large tv. Service was fast and we both had the Cottage Pie with a large serving of veggies on the side which was excellent. Sorry I didn't take a photo of food, I really should have. Hope we can make another trip back when we are not in so much of a hurry.

An overnight stay in Hythe and a wander down the Main Street brought us to The King’s Head where we stopped for a drink and then came back for dinner. The food was excellent and service friendly & efficient. Well worth the visit.

Had not been here since they have changed owners, was a little apprehensive but the menu looked good and their pies were great. Had Steak and Ale and my husband had Steak and Kidney, with chips. Good portions. I’m glad the friendly waiter is still there too.

Amazing! Really accommodating turned up just before closing with 20 people the food was outstanding got the sharing nachos to start loaded with loads of yummyness. Then everyone got a brilliant portion of hot food (I had a delicious pie). Super friendly! So complaints from anyone. So lucky to find them!

After taking in some NYD sea air my other half and I decided to drive along from Folkestone to Hythe to see if we could stop by cosy pub for a quick drink. We parked up and wondered along to the Globe Inn. Upon arrival we received a warm welcome from the Landlady who wished us a Happy New Year and sat us next to the log fire. No food was available but we overheard the owners offering to cook Fish and Chips for a couple who had also popped into the pub. I've never written a review before but this old school proper High Street pub deserves a mention and a reminder to everyone why we need to keep our local pubs alive. An unexpected surprise and a place we will definitely drop by again. Well Done!

Something different & refreshing for New Romney town. A nice looking bar, plenty of drink options, good music & comfortable seating. When I visited it was mid week and basically empty, but still a good atmosphere. A nice young lady was serving our drinks, hello on arrival, goodbye on leaving. Reasonably priced, would visit again.

Very sadly this pub now seems to be closed. It was shut on Thursday evening when we came past. And there was a large SOLD sign on the building. :(. (Hopefully it will be reopened as a pub someone soon )
