The Jolly Farmer in Basingstoke and Deane

Nice pint and delicious food in a small but very pleasant pub. Both our main dishes were from the Thai menu, and we both enjoyed. A little less spicy than expected, but fresh and with complex flavours. Service was prompt and friendly. All made for a most enjoyable lunch.

We met up with a friend in the area who recommended we get something to eat from here so we all went here. The place was quite quiet. There is a good size car park at the back of the pub. The place was reasonably warm. We were able to choose a table in the small area past the bar. We ordered drinks at the bar before sitting down which I had a guest ale which was good. We ordered food which I had the fish and chips was quite nice. It was good size and portion good. I tried some of the other food that was ordered and this seemed good. The owner was friendly and chatty. Overall this is a nice pub. The food is quite good. If you are in the area this is a nice place to try

Wonderful food and drink in this nearly local! Worth the walk for amazing Thai or just traditional English fare. Chips are excellent!

Met 2 friends for lunch today and we weren’t sure what to expect. We needn’t have worried as the food was authentic and delicious. The Massaman curry and Green curry were both excellent. We will certainly visit again.

One word… Wow!!! Went here with A friend for a meal out last Friday lunchtime and the food was absolutely phenomenal.. I have never usually been a fan of Thai food, however this is definitely one to try!!! Everything was delicious, and so fresh tasting. Most importantly the service was by far the best service I have ever received in a pub/restaurant. From start to finish we felt so welcome, we had 2 dogs with us and they were very well treated with biscuits! Lidia our waitress was fantastic and looked after us very well- she was smiley and had a lovely personality and clearly loves her job! Will definitely be returning.. and will be recommending this place to friends and family!

Wow, just wow. Thai is my favourite food, and I've rarely had it so well done as here. Just absolutely exquisite flavours, definitely one to try.

We found this cosy pub via Britstops and decided to stop here on our way to the Eurotunnel. The staff was very friendly, enthousiastic and welcoming. Even the dog got a lot of attention and dog biscuits. The authentic Thai food was very tasteful, freshly made. They also have a few traditional pub food dishes, but can highly recommend the lovely Thai menu ☺️ Well poured Guinness too.

Joined two friends here on Friday evening for an impromptu meal and drinks. As it is one of the local pubs that we visit occasionally in villages surrounding our own we thought that there would be no need to book a table if we arrived early (7:45pm). We went to the bar to order drinks and pick up a menu before sitting down, where we were served by a very welcoming young lady behind the bar. Whilst being served a lady came in and waited behind us making a comment to the girl behind the bar that “it was nice to find a queue at the bar for a change”. As the lady was waiting to be served we took our drinks and went to sit down before ordering food. As we looked around all of the tables bar two had reserved signs placed on them, with only two couples sitting at tables. As we went to sit down at one of the two tables without reserved signs we were stopped by the Landlord and told that we couldn’t sit there and would have to go out to the back of the pub if we wanted to sit down. This we did, however the seating area at the back of the pub is a dirty, damp plastic covered extension that is not exactly the sort of place you would expect to eat in. Anyway, we complied and I then returned to the bar to ask the Landlord if they could cater for us if we wanted to eat, as it looked like they were going to be very busy. I was almost grudgingly given a single menu and returned to my friends. We decided to all order Scampi & Chips, as that would be easy for the kitchen to prepare and serve if they were going to be busy. The food turned up in a timely manner and was well presented, although the Scampi was not real Scampi but probably processed fish as it resembled little potato croquettes being all the same size and shape. However, the food was fine and there were no issues other than the sarcastic comment from the Landlord about our choice of food when they specialise in Thai Curries. Well guess what sir, we would have ordered some of your specialty dishes if we had felt welcomed and not made to feel like we were an inconvenience to you!! We finished our meals, drank up and moved on to another local pub where we knew our custom would be welcomed. As we left I noticed that all the reserved tables we had seen in the main bar area were still empty as well! As a consequence to our experience I will not be returning and I very much doubt my two friends will either.

Advertised a beer festival which concisted of 3 ales instead of 2 which is the norm for this pub. After walking 30 minutes in inclement weather to get there i was not impressed. I would treat dubiously any further event advertising from this establishment

Had a lovely evening. The food was excellent. All freshly cooked and very tasty. Service was excellent with a good atmosphere in the dining area. Would certainly recommend and will definitely be returning. An unexpected find.

Actually last visit was 1998 on a once a month corprate freebie from local workhouse. Lovely pub, easy offroad parking, and the Ham - Egg with good company of work collegues /Reps - Chips option and a pint of HSB shandy always kept the workhouse accountants happy - Also done a crane 190ft bungie jump in their rear carpark, once again late 90's - But that's a different story!

Lovely ambience & great delicious Thai food. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The sitting areas are clean and makes you feel like home.

The staff were good, the food was good, the pub is very snug, i would recommend this pub to anyone passing this area to use it but would suggest booking in advance or phoning to see if they have availability. I would have scored the pub 5 out of 5 but there is something missing but I don’t know what.

Keep going back to this pub because the food is amazing. My favourite is the sweet n sour chicken - so tasty. Family favourite is the Pad Thai. Really worth a visit for authentic Thai food

We have been a few times now to dine at the Jolly and have had the Thai option on each occasion. It has been excellent, with a great menu and plenty of choice. The portions are very generous and the food is absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend this pub, especially if you love authentic Thai food.

A classic family-run English pub. Excellent Sunday roast and very original atmosphere. The service is little slow though but still acceptable and the quality of the food has overcome all the problems.

Recently under new management and still settling in and getting used to the new till! Staff were very friendly and keen to please. Food was average but I understand a new chef is on the way. We only had light meals (soup, beef and Stilton baguette etc). Will definitely go back again in a couple of months to see what progress they have made! Hoping they do well as the village needs their pub!

We have always loved the Jolly Farmer and it has recently reopened under new management. The landlady Emma and all the staff are very friendly and make you feel really welcome. The food was a . delight and very good value for money and we will definitely be eating here again. It is a lovely family village pub.

Food ok. Pub nice. Service not brilliant. We were a table of 4. As soon as 1 of us had finished our food the plate was cleared instead of waiting for the whole table to finish. Bit weird.

Came here with my daughter, son in law & husband. Very friendly warm welcome , excellent service & gastro standard food ! The majority had burgers which were excellent & I took a chance with the sea bass fillet which was amazing ! Rick Stein ( and I have eaten there on more than one occasion ) eat your heart out ! This pub is a hidden gem - my recommendation is to go there before everyone else discovers it ! We will definitely be back . Thank you for a great evening.

Came here last night with my Mum, had a fantastic meal - fish & chips and burger & chips, the chips were amazing! I will definitely be coming back and recommending. Table organisation could be improved and can't seem to find a website/social media which is a shame as usually I would look up the venue first and look at the menu. but the food was fantastic and at a really good price, overall really great, Thank you :)

We'd been there for our Christmas dinner in December. It's a lovely pub with relaxed setting in a quite village of Cliddesden, plenty of parking spaces and lovely food.

Really yummy food, very accommodating pub staff (as we also had our five month old with us), offered to warm milk if needed and to rearrange tables if we wanted more space for baby seat. Great food that even my fussy dad liked. Would fully recommend.

We’ve been coming here for a few years and it seems like this summer the garden has been neglected. We sat in the garden for a drink while out on a bike ride and many of the benches had bird mess on them and there were weeds and abandoned paint pots etc around the edges. It was sunny so lots of people would be expected as it was Sunday. Shame it looks so shabby as it has a good reputation.

Maxine is bloody amazing! Hostess with the mostess! She is that amazing I asked if she was the owner but the owner was next to us. Everyone we accountered has and always has been amazing! You will feel like family at this location best pub ever!!

Firstly, I'm a big fan of the Jolly Farmer and it's the only decent pub I can walk to and where dogs are welcome. However, up until yesterday evening I have given it the benefit of the doubt, food wise. Once again, the menu is uninspiring and unimaginative. The food is both of those but also poor quality. The service was great from the two young guys on the bar, which is why I'm being generous. The Jolly has the potential to be amazing, but it's not. I have noticed I am not the only disgruntled customer and I'm hoping by writing this, the Jolly will up its game and take notice. Until then, we'll be swinging by just for drinks....

Situated in the beautiful village of Cliddesden. Beer garden for those sunny days with plenty of parking. Food was good but what really stood out for me was the service from the staff. 10/10. If you like your ales then I had the “Brewdog”- would recommend.

From start to finish our experience was shocking. We'd gone for a family birthday and it was a complete disaster. The only thing they got right was having our booking for 15. The meals were unappetizing, burnt gammon that was inedible, kids meals were slop nothing was presented nicely just thrown on the plate. We were so unhappy and I wish I had photos of the meals that we demanded we got our money back for most of the meals. A steak was set back and the replacement was just as tough, starters came our for some guests after mains for others it really was shocking. As we left at sunset because meals took so long to come out etc the view was spectacular and the pub was no where in sight thankfully behind us. Disgraceful !!!!!

This is our local pub and we love coming here for a couple of drinks every now and then. Unfortunately the food options and quality have become much worse over time.

Booked for 1o'clock, found our reserved table, selected our meal choices and waited.... and waited. At 2.15 our starter arrived followed an hour later by our mains!

On arrival bar service felt a little ' unfriendly' but as we got a table and ordered food it was on the up...... at a later point the chef came out to serve us and he was very friendly and more importantly cooked great food! The food was really good ....... high quality and well prepared......... fairly priced good pub food. The pub was very busy a good sign. Would visit again.

Had a lovely lunch here as always, food good, & service good. My only negative Is, I wish the menu changed more often. I appreciate it's difficult to change often but the menu is the same as it has been for at least the last 2 to 3 years.. I appreciate the specials on the board but even most of them have been on there for easily over 9 months. It's a shame as the food is very good.... just need to change it, or some of it.... I've eaten here over the last 3 to 4 years & i really don't see any new dishes.... what is deemed as new has been on there since last summer at least..... but despite that, will still come here, may be not as often though...

Great pub with all the charm & characteristics that you would expect to find in a small village setting. Staff and customers were very welcoming and friendly. Food was delicious and portion sizes were more than adequate, great value too. Will definitely return

Thank you Jolly Farmer for reviving our confidence in pub grub. Following a number of recent disappointment in other pubs it is great to be able to say your are really good. Lunch was excellent and really good value and the service very friendly. We will be back .

We popped into the pub for a drink, staff were very friendly and welcoming. There is a corner with board games and papers and enjoyed a couple of drinks and a game of draughts! Really nice atmosphere and we are looking forward to going back and trying the food as well.

We had a family gathering here of 35 people after the funeral of my mother in law at Basingstoke Crematorium, We asked for sausage and mash followed by apple pie and custard, and we were all able to sit down together and enjoy a high quality meal served apparently effortlessly by the staff. Very cosy old-time pub - just what everyone wanted to list their spirits after the funeral. Good selection of beer and wine too!

Haven't been here for a while & fancied some where different for lunch with my friend. From the phone call to book to the food...couldnt fault any of it. The smoked haddock was really good.....and the chips well they are just the best! Thanks guys we will be back soon!

My husband and I decided to visit on the spur of the moment so booked a table the night before, as it can get very full.

To come to the Basingstoke area and miss eating at the Jolly Farmer is almost a sin. It is one of our first stops whenever we are nearby. The food, friendly staff, and beer selection makes this a winning restaurant. When we go we almost always have the burgers. Topped with grilled onions and melted brie these hand formed burgers just melt in your mouth. There are almost always 4 hand pulled ales to wash the burger down with. Our plates are almost licked clean after each visit!

Our previous visits to The Jolly Farmer have always been very good, which is what made this occasion all the more disappointing.

I can honestly say I have never been more impressed. As a vegan I called up prior to my visit and was told the chef could cook me whatever; slightly sceptical we arrived for dinner and the team where so accommodating!! The chef cooked me a risotto, and I didn't feel like a burden to them! I could honestly not give a higher review! Very impressed and will definitely be returning! Thank you!

As I do in most places, I check out Trip Advisor to find a place that is a bit off the beaten path. Since I stayed at nearby Audleys Wood, this pub seemed like an ideal fit given the reviews and distance from the hotel. From the moment I arrived, I felt very welcomed by the pub patrons (regulars) and staff. Very good pub food with a modern twist and plenty of pints to go around. Thanks to Izzy at the bar and all the friendly patrons of The Jolly Farmer: you made my visit a memorable one!

This is a lovely country pub/restaurant, with very friendly and attentive staff and a wide variety of great food. Well worth a visit!

We had a delicious Sunday Lunch here. We were a table of 4, we had 2 roast belly pork, which was so tasty and tender and not too fatty at all with very tasty crackling, 1 roast beef again very tender and tasty and 1 slow braised rib of beef. All 4 meals were amazing and the puddings were great too. We will definitely all meet up there again

We ate at The JollyFarmer at the recommendation of "the doorman" at Audley Wood Hotel. It was a good recommendation. The food was fairly limited but freshly prepared and the service was good. The beer was cold and plentiful and there was a fair Malborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Great pub and friendly staff. Past experiences of food here were of a high standard. This was not the same. Previously edgy, gastro pub flavours and presentation, now, a bit over cooked and grey.Sorry.

Haven't been here for about 8 months & it never disappoints. An improtu lunch for 4 on Saturday. As always friendly staff & a warm welcome. Starters for 3 of us, couldn't fault....( the salmon in chilli batter was really good!) Fish cakes, chilli beef & a fantastic looking sandwich!! The great thing about this place ( apart from the food & service) is its open.& serves food all day..very rare for a small village pub. It is a gem & well worth a visit or 2, or 3, or 4.........

Excellent fresh cooked food; happy to alter the order to accommodate dietary requirements. Great choice & all reasonably priced. Good choice of beers and cider on tap as well as soft & alcoholic drinks. Friendly staff & lovely relaxed atmosphere. Loved it so much we've booked again for next Sunday. Making it our local.

Went on a 5 mile country walk with my lady wife and Marshall the dog Sunday afternoon - hot and tired stopped off at the Jolly Farmer for a cold pint and fish and chips; what a way to finish the afternoon. Absolutely brilliant in the garden and in the country too. I recommend this pub, good service, good beer, good food and value for money. Ample parking and fantastic location. Ticks all the boxes. Wish we had a pudding!

We happened to come across this pub, had a drink there and decided to return later on for dinner, which we did. What a good decision! We were early so there were not many punters yet. The dinner we had was absolutely divine and we enjoyed it very, very much!Top marks!We also learned that one of the waitresses was having her last working week over there. If I were the manager of this place I'd feel very sorry to lose her. She was most friendly, kind ànd hard-working, shining the timing during the slow hours.

Beautiful place and delicious food. The drive is a lovely bonus! We stopped by here on our way back to London from Stonehenge. The garden out back is also beautiful if you're there on a day with good weather.

I took my 90 year old 'best friend' for a glass of wine and some lunch, we are never disappointed by the catch of the day, the last time we visited we had the sea bass which was pan fried and utterly delicious! Today the catch was mackerel, I have never been a big fan but thought i should try it....it was delicious!! Not keen on a side of salad so was offered green beans and grilled tomatoes with mine with the homemade chips...gorgeous i will have to have words with the chef though...the sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream was terrible...so terrible i nearly licked the plate!! Too delicious..thank you!!

We had our family Christmas get together here today, there was 26 of us. Everything from booking, to the meals and service was perfect, the staff were so helpful. I emailed a list of what we all wanted, with our names, the staff came out calling out our names with our meals. It ran like clockwork. We had everything from children to a vegan and nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding, every meal that came out was, presented beautifully and tasted fantastic. I would recommend this lovely country pub to everyone. We will definitely be going back. I can not thank the staff enough, for the warm welcome we received and the service, you made our afternoon perfect.
