Lovely pub with links to the 60's film 'The Battle of Britain' - very friendly staff, dog friendly and decent food and beers available. Ate in the bar area which was very pleasant but also has a large conservatory/restaurant area.

Came with a group of vegan and nonvegan friends, we ordered the vegan fish n chips and oyster mushrooms. Really stunning presentation and beyond amazing quality food. The best vegan fish and chips I've ever had. We all wished the portions were a bit bigger for the price, but the quality was outstanding. Dog-friendly as well and the garden is well kept and beautiful. The building is very historic and the garden offers a lovely view of the downs and medieval village. Easy bus ride from Canterbury, bus runs every 10 minutes.

Quite honestly, this lovely place far exceeded any expectations. We were told this little gastro pub was a good place to eat… we both really wanted a roast dinner and we were not disappointed. The outside of the pub with its lovely flowers was a delight. The decor of the inside was very tasteful and there was ample room around good sized dining tables. Staff were attentive and service was very efficient whilst not being pushed to order/eat/pay and leave… Starters were so very lovely… we had King Prawns with sweet chilli and the Blue clouds… Gorgonzola cheese with caramelised walnuts, green leaves and a light cheese dressing… both starters were fabulous. We ordered mains Roast Beef and Roast Lamb with Apricot Stuffing. Both were served quickly and beautifully presented with good roast potatoes, roast carrot with tender stem broccoli and cabbage, topped with a delicious gravy. We were more than amount satisfied with our first two courses but the prospect of locally sourced fruits in the home made Apple, Blackberry and Elderflower Crumble with custard proved too tempting. Since we were on a. Camping trip, we happened to have take away boxes into which we asked for our desserts to be served and the staff were more than happy to let us take them away for that moment shortly after the first two courses had gone down sufficiently to allow us to eat the home made delights. All in all a very, very good experience.

Beautiful pub in the gorgeous kentish countryside. Our welcome was superb, the layout of the pub is fantastic, flowers on the table, fresh paper menu, lovely cutlery and really friendly staff.. our starters were artisan bread and mushrooms , the mushrooms fantastic, the artisan bread a little disappointed as I was expecting a maybe a selection, not just sliced loaf tin. The mains we ordered were roast lamb, lovely large servings looked delicious, nice fresh vegetables, but sadly slightly bland, not enough seasoning, and I was expecting more of a rustic authentic roast lamb.

Average food for expensive price. £12 for kids meal that consisted of one sausage and a few fries and veg, with one scoop of icecream. Okay it your child is 2 but not for older children. Roast dinner bland. I ordered a veggie one and the pastry was undercooked. We have just left and my son is now asking me to take him for dinner! Not what you want after spending £80 on Sunday lunch. Staff are polite, but restaurant had run out of many things we wanted by 4pm.

Consistent quality, unmatched and in a league of its own! The Jackdaw roast will have you dribbling for days every time you think back to taking a mouthful of one of these plates of perfection! I've now eaten several of these badboys in recent weeks and if I could shoehorn a few more Sundays into the standard week just to eat more then I most certainly would! Utterly delectable! The Jackdaw's menu is never short of a creative new dish and this week's favourite without a doubt is my latest discovery "babaganoush".. Having never heard of it, and thinking it sounded more like something you'd say whilst casting a spell, I was immediately intrigued, so being the absolute daredevil that I am, I jumped right in and ordered one! My god what a game changer..! Like a party in your mouth of contrasting flavours that compliment each other perfectly! If it wasn't for the delicious roast that was due to follow I could have happily grabbed my coat and left the building after my starter alone and skipped out on a high! Absolute magicians in the kitchen I swear! Everything done here is not just right, but clearly well thought out, the attention to detail and the sense of going the extra mile is just the standard you are guaranteed. From the minute you walk in, to the second you leave, everything and everyone you encounter are all up there with the very best! Cannot reccomend the Jackdaw enough for any occasion! I'm already planning my next visit as my cats birthday is coming up! Any excuse 😍. As always can't wait to return, thankyou all for another flawless meal and great afternoon.

We chose the Jackdaw for a celebration dinner for my Dad’s 80th and it was wonderful as always. This is absolutely my go to eatery as the staff are always lovely, the pub itself is cosy and the food is always so good. The best thing for us though, is their total handle on gluten free food as our daughter has coeliac disease. The chef has won awards for his free from cooking and we feel completely confident that she is safe to eat here. Also, best homemade puddings ever!!

Very welcoming to families. I am often with my toddlers by myself and they are always kept entertained, welcomed, looked after and the kids meals portions are generous. Anyone who has ever eaten out with small children will understand, it can be friggin stressful: to keep them seated, not annoy other patrons and not leave a trail of destruction behind themselves! How we are seated always takes this in to consideration, so they have a little freedom to move but are safe (and so are the staff!) The kids always love the food, with added bonus of pudding (and much wanted fruit shoot) included! Post stomach surgery for myself, eating out can be difficult and cause anxiety, but staff are always super helpful and accommodating. Thoroughly recommend for food, facilities and atmosphere, big (free) car park also a bonus and dogs welcomed in the bar area!

Met some friends for a Sunday Roast. The Jackdaw was buzzing. Seated quickly and offered drinks immediately. The Sunday roast arrived quickly and was well portioned with lots of veg and the essential proper gravy (not the usual coloured water at other pubs). Nice range of desserts which looked lovely, but I was too full to indulge this time, but my friends all enjoyed theirs! Friendly and attentive service. Place is clean and nicely decorated-the toilets are much nicer than the usual grotty pub lavs. Would definitely come again. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Sunday Lunch. Good choice of starters empty plates all round. Mains roast Beef, Lamb, Pork and according to the vegetarian in the group, a very good nut roast (one of the tastiest she's had). There was no room left for dessert, but again, there was a nice selection. The Jackdaw at Dentin is definitely worth a visit. We have wanted to visit the Jackdaw for a while after reading the good reviews and finally went tonight. We had no idea what would be on the menu as menus are not on the website! Was disappointed as soon as I read it as very little appealed to me,lots of stodgy burgers, only thing I fancied was mussels and we were told they were off.I ended ordering fish and chips and my husband had rib eye steak. We then waited over 40 mins for the food to arrive 😱.My husband said his steak was not that good and my fish had thick greasy batter..the chips were also greasy and covered with salt.I ended up leaving a lot of my meal.We did not bother with dessert..will not be returning.Such a shame as staff were nice and the decor was lovely.

Mains - superb Sunday roasts which everyone loved plus a huge bowl of moules frites for one friend. Beautifully cooked selection of veggies with a lovely gravy and perfect fluffy and crunchy roast potatoes and great Yorkshire puddings. The cauliflower cheese and extra roasties were a great option and both delicious. Wonderful selection of desserts. One affogato, a honeycomb sundae and an excellent selection of cheeses. Very disappointed with my visit to the Jackdaw. It seems all restaurants are obsessed with burgers as this seems the main stable diet in most restaurants these days. The menu was disappointing as it was all fast foods. My wife ordered risotto and a portion of chips which didn’t come. I ordered a steak which was very tough to say the least. We have eaten in the Jackdaw in the past and it was fine, this time I feel that as we are not young we don’t want burgers, we want proper food which the Jackdaw didn’t provide. We won’t be returning as we have lost our patience with the Jackdaw, they need to cater for people who want reel food not fast food..

We booked a last minute table for Sunday lunch last week and it was that amazing we returned this week! From the car park heading in we knew we were in for a treat as the pub is beautifully kept, with pots and baskets outside showing a colourful display. We were warmly welcomed in the bar area and seated at our table in the restaurant /conservatory area. Being vegan I always feel like I am awkward when eating out but this establishment made me feel very welcomed and totally catered for, even adapting a desert to make it vegan! The food was hot and fresh with 5 fresh veg, roast potatoes and a vegan Yorkshire. I have included photos of our starters and mains but gobbled the puds before I remembered to take a photo! We will most certainly be regulars. Great vibe, friendly, efficient team of staff, wonderful food and fabulous hosts.

Definitely the best Sunday lunch in the area - knock spots off all the other village pubs around. We visited yesterday with our elderly (and often picky ) mother, for an early lunch sitting and the food was just excellent. We had 2 roasts, a...

Four of us were delighted to return to ‘the Jackdaw’ once again. Conveniently situated approximately midway between our respective homes in Whitstable and Folkestone, we use this delightful, historic ‘Pub’ regularly for our occasional ‘Family Get-togethers’ and after today’s successful ‘visit’ will definitely continue to...

I usually go here all the time, but clearly the guy was having a bad day. I was in a rush but the customer in front was taking her time because she was pretty much an imbecile, there was 2 of them serving the one lady which wasnt needed and caused a huge que. I didnt say anything, I didn't complain as it wasnt necessary to do so, but the guy at the till (manager I think, Italian, Algerian guy) saw I was annoyed and purposely started snickering and started moving even slower. Again I go here all the time and have no issue with this store, but why this gentleman felt it was okay to do this when I didn't make a complaint or say anything. I waited without causing fuss. This is the same guy that used to work in the Old Walthamstow Mall branch that was noted to be very rude and abrasive.

I ordered medium ribeye and was served something else and well done Got replacement that was fine It wasn’t very busy, so many empty not clean tables looked strange Overall classic pub and good value

We had a wonderful Sunday Roast here. They were able to get us in without a reservation and were so nice and friendly despite being super busy. The inn oozes charm and the food was delicious. We got a beef roast and lamb roast and sticky toffee pudding (gf) for dessert. A quick stroll down to the beach for a lovely view. We feel lucky to have found this gem!
