Put an order in and having to 2 wait over 2 hours is disgusting then when you phone to get told out on delivery then still having to wait another 20 min disgusting, won't be using again

This place has come highly recommended, so tonight was the night we placed our first order for three of us to be delivered. The order confirmation said we would get a call back to take our payment and that delivery would take an hour. The call for payment didn’t come, so I called them and made our payment at which point I was told it would be more like 90 mins. Not a problem. 90 minutes came and went and I called, and called and called. Most of the time the line rang out until it cut me off, on some occasions it went straight to voicemail, and a couple of times they answered the phone and put in on the side so I could wait on the end listening to what was going on in the restaurant without anyone actually talking to me. To cut this story short, after more than two hours we couldn’t get to speak with anyone so we ended up driving to the restaurant to cancel the order and request a refund. The chap in the restaurant originally said we would be refunded at midnight but wouldn’t give us anything written to confirm this, when we pushed back on this he said he couldn’t refund as he didn’t know the password, only when my husband started to get a bit sick of the nonsense and start to lose patience did he agree to refund us in cash. I’m really surprised about the whole fiasco because when we got there the restaurant was half empty! I’m sure the good comments about the food are true, but based on tonight, the delivery service is carnage, the communication is non-existent and the lack of customer service was enough to put me off trying again!

After a very long wait , our food was finally brought to the table. This place needs to decide if it’s a restaurant or a takeaway, as takeaways seem to take preference over diners in the reastaurant. Lots of people waiting for pre ordered takeouts, and long waits for everyone

The service in this restaurant is terrible as they left restaurant customers for over an hour and a half while they concentrated on delivery orders. They have to make up their minds if they are a takeaway or a restaurant. When we complained they were rude and unapologetic. Steer clear as the food isn’t exceptional so not worth the wait.

Truly awful experience. Saddened me that I had recommended this place. I do not normally write reviews but…… order a takeaway …. No problem….. they flow out the door…. Do not go for a sit down….. unless you have several hours and don’t mind watching paint dry….. joke!!!!!

Relaxed atmosphere and great food at reasonable prices. Good to be able to dine-in for a change rather than having a takeaway from here.

Still waiting nearly two hours after ordering a take away.It will be going straight back when/If it ever turns up.If they can't cope with the workload don't take it on...really pissed off and won't use these ever again...

The customer service were terrible we were forced to get an extra dish so we can sit in the restaurant. I ordered the drink and the drink was completely flat.

Food was ok, service was ok, BUT……OMG when I came out after dining in there my clothes literally stank!!! I could smell the curry cooking smell all the way home, I went to bed and all I could smell was my clothes that I hung up before getting into bed, woke up in the morning first thing I could smell was the awful wrench my clothes were kicking out!! Got out of bed and all my clothes that I wore that night including coat went straight into washing machine. Not sure if they are using the extraction but never experienced that from any Indian. We always normally use blue cobra for 20 years never had that problem ever. Wouldn’t go again just for that reason.

We had to go and pick up our food even though we had asked for delivery after 1 hour and 20 mins we decided to go and collect it, and it was not even warm it must have been sitting around for a while, this place use to be so good but not now, rude staff and very poor service, we will never go back to this place 😡😡😡

Online details state "open until 11.30" however I called at 10pm and told to order NOW or it won't be delivered! Won't be ordering or frequenting this establishment again due to the tone in which I was spoken to!

I've been eating currys in portsmouth for 40 years, I've got to tell you this is right up there, reminds me of the original Jimmy's in fawcett Rd. For all that are to young , top quality ingredients, taste fantastic, and price is competitive.

One of the worst restaurants i have eaten in. The front of house guy Ash was a total disgrace. Order 2 thing and very disappointed. The poppadoms took over 20mims. He kept says they are putting the sauce tray together and what was it 4 little pots with mint sauce, highly coloured sweet sauce and 2 pots with onions. 20 mins!!!! VERY DISAPPOINTING

Customer service poor and The front desk were not welcoming, we wanted to sit in for a meal they instead for us to do takeaway because sit in was more expensive??? While waiting for the take away we asked for ice to help with my babies teething. The only gave us 1 ice cube.

Lovely food, but took 2 hours to arrive despite the app stating 60mins. Took 2 phone calls from me to eventually get the delivery out. Clearly they cannot cope with the restaurant and deliveries!

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant 17:30 and we rang them twice our meal was supposed to be here at 18:40 we run them at 19:00 they said it will be here within 10 minutes and it never arrived and we are hungry and we have to order from somewhere else

We live in Waterlooville and struggle to get a good curry, our son ordered a Chicken Dhansak and Chicken Patia, for us absolutely amazing, beautiful succulent chicken and both sauces were hot, sweet and sour exactly what they should be.

This place is amazing! Food is absolutely delicious and always exceptional quality! Great portion sizes too! Highly recommend: chicken curry, sag aloo, vegetable bhuna, peshwari naan, pilau rice, onion bhajis are huge and amazing too!

Took 2hrs and what turned up was so poor. I will not be coming back. Called to complain and was passed around. Bad attitudes, poor quality of food.

Food was ok, apart from the Peshwari Naan which had NO coconut paste in !!! Despite asking for extra !! I ordered at 8pm & despite phoning & trouble getting through !!! Them picking up & putting straight back down , I did eventually get through !! They said it had just been cooked & would be 20 mins !! LIARS !!! At 10.30pm it turned up !!! NEVER again, not even a sorry !!! Totally ruined my evening. You are now taken off my list of go to Indians in Portsmouth !!!!!Despicable !!!

First time ordering a home delivery from Indian cottage food arrived on time unfortunately chicken tikka starter was missing but when I phoned they sent another driver round with one straight away ..The korma curry I ordered was perfect the chicken was tender and delicious the rice was cooked well I would say the best korma curry I have ever had ..also the namb bread was lovely..I haven't had the chicken tikka starter yet because it didn't arrive with the meal so will have tomorrow but I'm shore it will be good .. I will definitely be returning as a customer the food was perfect and customer service excellent.

Me and my good friend had plans to catch up for dinner. After a few years we were excited to say the least. He had just been on a fantastic adventure around India and had heard this was the place to go. Unfortunately we couldn't have been more wrong. From the outside the candles and the aubiance looked great. However once we entered we were greeted by not overly enthusiastic staff. It really felt as if they couldn't get rid of us fast enough. We had the following to eat. Mutter paneer, veg biryani and lamb dupiza with garlic and cheese naan bread. Now, the saddest part of all of this is that the mutter paneer transpired to be made with cheddar cheese. We politely enquired if this was the case and the rude response from the waiter was 'if you wanted paneer you should have asked for INDIAN mutter paneer'. Paneer is a type of cheese, I didn’t ask for a cheddar curry. The long and short of this is that the food lacked taste and flavour and there was a distinct lack of customer service from the staff. Especially when we enquired to reduce the bill, no questions - they literally told us that's the price. Unfortunately this restaurant just seems to lack any passion for what is typically an amazing cuisine. Lacklustre is the only way to describe the experience, both the food and service. £50 for 2 tasteless bland meals, devistated is an understatement. When the candle is the highlight - don't be that moth to the flame.

really bad restaurant charged £19.00 pound for four cokes my tandoori was awful tasting smelt off and tasted like cheese curry's weren't fantastic either complete rip off and bad attitude there not there for customers money only theres far better indian resturants than this one

There are two Indian cottage restaurants on Portsmouth, this one is set in the north of the city, in a residential area, so most of their trade is locals, this restaurant has been trading under the same management, for at least 30 years and the food is fantastic! It has had a few make overs so is a nice bright clean dinning space, great for couples of families. You can’t go wrong here.

The worst service you ever get in your life. I came here a few times (3 or 4) because my friends like here and the taste of food are not too bad. However the person service you are insane ... I asked for fish curry from menu and he replied " how many time I told you no fish ..." "why you put fish in the menu then" "this is the old menu..." I asked for a suggested lamb dish, he replied " I told you last time for... dish " I think it must be couple of month ago. I will never go back again for sure !!!

Absolute joke waited 2 and a half hours for delivery turned up cold, phoned up got messed about by staff saying need to speak to supervisor, but apparently they weren’t there. Asked for a refund and refused keeped chucking in red herrings to avoid sorting problem out. Still waiting for second delivery now 10.00 pm originally ordered at 7.00pm, avoid like the plaque.

The ROYAL Kitchens which is next door to the Indian Cottage is a very good place to relax and experience good food ,its not the most beautiful but really good food and you can take your own drink.

Food itself was nice but it wasn’t worth the 2 hour 45 min wait for delivery! Online order said it would be within 90 minutes. I phoned after 2 hours to check and they said 10 more minutes but it came nearly 45 minutes after that! Will be finding another takeaway.

Terrible attitude, wouldn't confirm how long it would take for the food to be ready (even for collection) waited for 1hr 40mins, no manners and food very average, mushroom rice portions ridiculously small, Keema naan had no meat in/on it so was in fact a plain soggy Naan and two of the group had severe stomach pains the day after. I think the ratings are reflective of what you get....

My family have been coming to this restaurant for over 25 years. The food is always of a high standard . I always have the Shashlik Prawn which is not on menu but they always make it for me with no trouble. Tarka dahl and Chanda Massala are very tasty. My 9 year old daughter has taken to their pistachio ice cream. Staff always bend over backwards for us and are very friendly and accommodating. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for an amazing Indian meal.

Ordered a delivery. The Nan bread was under cooked and stone cold.I didn't enjoy the food, so much so, I put it in the bin. The best part of my order, was the mint sauce. Certainly would not recommend eating from this establishment. Waste of money and felt feeling hungry and disappointed.

We have used the Indian Cottage for many years and visited the restaurant numerous times. Great food and service. But that seems to have changed! We ordered on the website. We ordered our usual Mushroom rice which comes in a big tub like the curries. This is standard to every Indian Takeaway we have had curry from. On the website it states "Mushroom Rice (Large). The rice came in a small tub the same size as the Pilau comes in. But still paying the higher price. Their plain naan bread is normally amazing. On the menu as Naan (Large), only for a naan to turn up half the size than they normally are. Not at all Large. Ok, maybe cutting down on sizes but then sort out your website so we know what we ordering. Especially as the Naan and rice were being shared!! And change prices to reflect this, rather than charging the same price for small that you do for large! Phoned to complain only for be spoken to rudely and just saying over and over Mushroom Rice comes in small tub!! Well it didnt for over 8 years that we been using them. Will be going elsewhere from now on

Not the place to use for delivery if you are hungry. We did an on line order that said delivery would take 60 minutes (we live fairly close) but it took 85 minutes. Food was quite nice though but doubt we will use again.

Been using this restaurant for three years and over those three years we have seen the service sadly decline. The last two occasions we have been treated like a inconvenience most notably from the waiting staff but also the manager neither seem to realise that it is the customer experience that will grow the business when that experience is poor people either complain or vote with their feet. I can’t imagine it will stay open and we will never be using the restaurant again.

Ordered here for collection by mistake. Thought we were ringing the southsea one. They were happy to change it for delivery when we phoned them back. Delivery was really quick. Really enjoyed the food too. Definitely would order again.

I ordered a delivery from here and when I went to pay on card the fella on the phone said it didn’t go through. When it did. They’ve took £15 from me and completely denied it. Refused to pay me back and said I was wrong. Very very poor from this restaurant and I will never use from here again. I strongly recommend not using this place. I’ve reported it and hopefully they’ll wake up and pay me back my money

Pedí una comida 50 + conductor de entrega agradable como un pastel, también fuimos amables con él, arruinaron la comida al faltar bebidas para todos. El restaurante dijo que volverían a enviar las Coca-Cola, 3 horas después del pedido inicial todavía sin botellas de Coca-Cola, sonó varias veces, luego dijeron que en la última vez que el conductor no quería regresar. ! Se ofreció una comida gratis la próxima vez, pero no es lo suficientemente buena. ¿Cómo puede un conductor decidir si volver o no? Especialmente porque llamamos de 3 a 4 veces mientras esperábamos que no nos dijeran esto. Es una pena no haber tenido ningún problema antes.Así que pensé en darles otra oportunidad y volver a pedir mis comidas. Y dijo lo que el hombre me dijo que dijera y ahora 4 llamadas después para tratar de resolver esto ya que aparentemente nadie recuerda mi pedido, y ahora quiere que gaste otros 50 + para obtener una bebida gratis y un curry. Realmente que broma. No volveré.

Ordered a meal, delivery driver nice as pie, we were nice to him too, forgot coke. The restaurant said they’d resend the coke, 3 hours after the initial ordering still no bottle of coke, rang multiple times, they then said on the final time the driver did not want to come back!! Offered a free meal next time but it’s just not good enough how can a driver decide whether to come back or not! Especially as we rang 3-4 times in between whilst waiting to not be told this. Such a shame as haven’t had a problem before, I don’t know if I will be coming back here again.

El personal es completamente desinteresado y grosero. Uno de nuestro grupo preguntó si su abrigo podría colgarse y el camarero dijo "no, póngalo en el respaldo de su silla". Más tarde, en una visita al baño, vi que había ganchos para abrigos, pero estaban llenos del personal. La comida también era sosa y mal presentada. Desde su visita, ¡he aprendido que este lugar solo obtuvo una calificación de higiene de alimentos de 1 estrella! Evite este restaurante pobre, no hay excusa para un mal servicio y comida deficiente.

Food good but delivery service is appalling, to be told about an hour and after hour and a half and two more phone calls food is not even out for delivery. Not happy at all, if I'd known it would be that long l would have gone somewhere else

I phoned up for a Home delivery at 19:00 in the evening and was told the food should be with me within the hour by 20 :00 still no food once again telephoned to find out where my order was, and was told by ash that the food was out for delivery to the said address, it took three more phone calls demanding to know where our food was each time we were told it was out for delivery, on the final telephone call we were told that the food was delivered to the agreed address, but the manager said to it had been delivered to number 17, out next door neighbours , We enquired at number 17 only to find that our dinner had been sitting there for over hour, which was stone cold, I strongly advise anybody not to we enquired at number 17 only to find that our dinner had been sitting there for over half an hour, which was almost stone cold, I strongly advise anybody not to waist there time or money the food from this place , to wait 2.5 hours & also have to make other phone call , 5 calls later , they finally got it right because they had left the rice out which still has not been received @22:99 , so all in all very bad service , I also had the manager on the phone saying that we could have a credit for the cost of the food , & I told them to refund it back & I shall be watching my account for the refund service very very poor & I will never order food for delivery from them & will advise anyone who is thinking log ordering from the Indian cottage in north end Portsmouth 0 out of 10 score

¡EVITAR! Solía usar regularmente cabaña india. Las últimas 2 comida para llevar que ordené me dijeron que habría una espera de 45 minutos. Aparecí después de 45 minutos para esperar más de una hora y media sin disculpas. Mientras estaba allí, los clientes llamaban para preguntar por qué su entrega no había aparecido. . les dirían que estaba en ruta a pesar de que ni siquiera había salido de la cocina. La comida era muy buena, sin embargo, el servicio era pésimo. Parece que el personal de espera principal se estaba concentrando más en atender los pedidos de comida para llevar por teléfono que en el restaurante. Tuve que esperar 20 minutos para obtener bebidas y poppadoms. Luego tuvo que esperar otros 15 minutos para realizar el pedido. Entonces, llegaron los platos de curry. Tuve que esperar otros 10 minutos para el arroz y luego otros 5 minutos para el pan nan. IMPACTANTE. No volveré No recomendado.

Food tastes good but.. there is definitely a difference in the quality of food when eating in and taking away. Try the garlic naan it will not disappoint 😊

After 1 and a half hours I called to ask how long it would be and they slammed the phone down on me, not the kind of service you should be receiving. I called back and cancelled my order We have trouble every time we order from here!! But after that we will never use them again!!!!!!

Absolutely shocking how long it takes this place to deliver. No one expects to wait 2hrs 30mins for food. Eating in or out. If your too busy tell the customer. Not everybody can sit and wait all night. And if it's not that u get the order wrong or forget something. Not even a free curry the next time if a curry is missing the previous.

I've been using this Indian restaurant since 2003. Always fantastic food, but I would allow extra time for delivery.

I wasn't in the Indian cottage last night I and my husband were at the royal kitchen Indian restaurants in North end ,we have been there many times the food the staff the restaurant itself is excellent,unfortunately they are to be closed😢 from today let us feel depressed upset disappointed good luck to them wherever they move onto next.I rate this restaurant 10 out of 10 so sad 😢

Esta es una gran casa de curry, con todos los componentes correctos para una deliciosa comida, pero nos sorprendió cuando la factura llegó con nuestras cuatro bebidas por un total de 19. 80, dos cervezas y dos gaseosas. Cuando les preguntamos si era correcto, si el agua de soda realmente costaba lo mismo que una cerveza, dijeron que sí. Sintiendo el aguijón de 9. 90 para dos aguas gaseosas, nos fuimos sin propinas. ¿50 por dos platos principales, dos cervezas y dos gaseosas es demasiado?

Realmente disfruto la comida cada vez que como aquí, pero la espera de la comida es simplemente ridícula. Pedí un plato como entrega y tardó 2 horas sin disculpas. Cada vez que llama para reservar u ordenar, el teléfono pasa a diferentes empleados para que nunca sepa con quién está hablando.Mejore porque está llegando al punto de que ya no quiero comer aquí debido al servicio al cliente

Great food but believe me you need to have the patience of a saint as dont for 1 min believe how ever long they they tell you for collection or delivery is right you can double that ! If they say collect in 40 mins be prepared to wait another 40mins when you get there ! Example told 40mins waited for hour and 40 mins

Shockingly bad. I went there mid week on a quiet evening. It took ages for the food to come out and when it did the manager came over and apologised as they'd "run out of rice but could do me some chips or naan bread instead". A blatant lie as my friend had a biryani and ended up giving me half of his. I got the impression that not only could they not be bothered but they found it funny. They clearly hold English people in contempt here! There's so many better places for a curry in Portsmouth!

En este punto había 0 servicio al cliente o incluso un cuidado para dar una presa! mi curry la salsa era buena pero de nuevo carne solo de goma, la familia no disfrutó de la suya, pero después de que nos trataron como basura, solo queríamos las comidas y tratar de salvar la noche. si no sabe cómo administrar un negocio o incluso tratar a sus clientes con al menos un poco de respeto, entonces está en el trabajo equivocado, muchachos. . . . nunca más. . .

As a family, we visit this restaurant and have home delivery on a regular basis. Food excellent and staff polite, friendly and courteous.

Ordered online said 70 mins, I phone they say it’s on it’s way! 130 mins later I get a call from driver to say he’s 1 minute away... 25 mins later I try to call him back no reply I phone shop nicely they put phone down 3 times. I called them disgusting for there behaviour and I will never use or recommend again. Sort your drivers out or u won’t have any customers left.

Came here with a large group of friends. We ordered food for sharing. Each dish came out piping hot, just the right amount of heat for each meal. Loved every dish!

After many years of having this fantastic food delivered I wrote a review about a month ago about the shocking customer / delivery service. I am so happy to change that review to how this restaurant used to be. Fantastic customer service and 100% delivery service. Food is now 110% and delivery service is back how it should be. I actually complemented the person who answered the phone on his politeness and was great to see one of the original people deliver our food. 100% all round. Glad to have my favourite Indian back in track. .

Best Indian in Portsmouth, worth the wait. By default the takeaway service is always at least a 80 minute wait, so as long as you bare that in mind when you order it you won't get Hangry. The food is amazing, the garlic naan is the best by far. It's also lovely service if you were to sit in. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

So after seeing the way they work here, my good friend who has just left told me that any meat that is left on the plate or salads are washed with cold water and served out again!! The kitchen is dirty, they fry chicken and prawns in the same oil all the chips and bhajis are cooked in... seen with my own eyes. They give less portions to ppl sitting In the restaurant and more to delivery’s, nothing is fresh.. it’s all pre cooked and only takes about 5mins to warm back through.... this place used to be great but the greedy owner only cares about money! He owns one in the old pub up Drayton and he owns one over in emsworth... quality has gone out the window as he try’s to cut back on everything... he expects his workers to work 70+ hours a week for less than £300 the greedy man should be ashamed. Tuvo tantas semanas de no poder realizar el pedido debido a que no hay conductores o tener que esperar dos horas para la entrega. Esta noche me contestaron el teléfono y me dijeron que esperara. 4 minutos después, la persona comenzó a tomar mi orden y luego desapareció para tomar otra orden. 7 minutos después volvió y tuve que empezar de nuevo. I Ordered a chicken jalfrezi with pilau rice, the food came hot and very tasty! A generous portion! Great waiting staff! Restaurant clean! House wine good! Will definitely visit the restaurant again

Great food, best curry house in the north of Portsmouth... I've been sampling curries in Portsmouth for 33 years from Albert Road to Port Solent and this place is a hidden gem. Can get lively occasionally but the food is first rate and prices are great. Try it once and you'll have it on your short list of places to go.

Good portions and tasty only downside was I didn't get poppadoms but it was an order for one so not too fussed
