Had a lovely meal and drinks here after a long walk in the area. Food was delicious and good value for money. They were more than happy to cater for dietary needs. Went for the prawn curry this time but will definitely be retuning to taste the other dishes that I didn’t get to eat this time around (lots that sounded good).

Booked for lunch for 3 kids and an adult. Arrived and had to wait to be noticed only to be told our table was not available. Was offered drinks. Waited a further 15 minutes for them. Another 15 minutes passed before I had to ask what was going on with our table. Finally seated at 14:45. Food was OK. Served at 15:30. £70 for three kids meals, one adult burger and six drinks. Two alcoholic. Is a 1 hour 30 min wait acceptable for a quick meal? Probably not. Would I be returning any time soon? Sadly not. Granted it was a hot day and busy yet if you can't honour bookings, don't accept them.

Extremely Disappointing Experience - Avoid at All Costs My partner and I visited this pub restaurant today, hoping for a pleasant lunch. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. We started with a coffee and sparkling water, which were thankfully decent. However, the problems began when we ordered our starters and main dishes. We were required to pay in advance, which struck us as odd—why pay for something we haven’t even received yet? After a long 30-minute wait, our starters arrived, and they were, to put it mildly, terrible. The food was of poor quality, bordering on junk, and we couldn’t even finish it. But the real issue arose with the main course. We both ordered a lamb dish from the menu priced at £22 each lamb meal. What arrived was an Indian-style lamb dish—a fact that was not mentioned anywhere on the menu. Neither my partner nor I enjoy Indian cuisine, and we certainly didn’t expect to be served it without any warning. We called the manager over to address the issue. Instead of being helpful, she was dismissive, asking only, “Are you sure you don’t want this?” When we explained that we couldn’t eat the dish, she simply took our plates away without offering any solution or apology. No refund, no alternative meal, nothing. After waiting in vain for any sort of resolution, my partner had to go inside to speak with the manager again. The response was shocking—she was extremely rude and completely unconcerned about our dissatisfaction. Despite our polite explanation that the menu did not indicate the dish was Indian, the manager refused to do anything about it. She wouldn’t return our money, nor would she offer any alternative. Her attitude was dismissive, unprofessional, and downright insulting. How can a restaurant serve food without accurately describing it on the menu? How can they make customers pay before they’ve even seen their food? This place is an absolute disgrace, with terrible food, appalling customer service, and a manager who clearly does not care about her customers. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It’s a rubbish establishment with rubbish food and even worse service. Save your money and avoid this place—there are far better options out there!

While looking for what beer to chose a bossy woman told us to sit down at a table. Strange menu for lunch no sandwiches toasted or otherwise, very expensive, £40 for two fish and chips, not that we had it, but what we did have was not that good. Will not be back

We've gone to this pub for over 40 years (on and off) - frequency depending on new owners/ management. A few months ago the fish and chips were great, bit pricey but, in our opinion, just about worth it. Recently the fish has become questionable: more batter than fish, almost as if it had been cooked once and not used then reheated/ re-battered: the fish itself was also a little dry. Now, I love batter but at the current price and quality we will be giving this option a big miss. And so, back to giving other venues our business for a while.

Very disappointed with meal. Fish and chips was 90% batter and 10% fish which was really overcooked and the cod was extremely chewy. Fish and chips used to be so nice here, never again. Staff asked about meal and when I said we were disappointed she said “sorry about that” and walked away

The menu seemed fair enough, but perhaps it's a case of form over function. Here's my story, but first let me tell you - the best bit of the whole experience was a drink before sitting at the table. I arrived slightly earlier than the rest of my friends and had a pint of Amstel. It was very pleasant and I thought set the tone for the evening. Wrong. The starter was smoked mackerel pate, or rather was supposed to be. Apparently it was quite good for those who got it, but they messed up my order. I graciously accepted the food they had brought to the table and soon after realised that wasn't the best idea. Several people had the mezze plate which I received. It was definitely quantity over quality. All the people who had it said it was hotter than they expected and left most of it. Not liking the idea of wasting food I ate it all but the only bit the other four people ate was the feta cheese. Next was the main course. Rare steak, my favourite. £24.50. What’s not to like? This should be great! Wrong. Again... The steak was really small. The cut of meat was very poor quality. Half of it was ok, not great. Quarter of it was fat and other quarter was like solid gristle. You can’t do that with rare steak and expect to get away with it! Then another round of drinks. Surely this would go right. Guess what… wrong again! They messed up the order and missed my drink. I had to remind them. That’s not the way it should work. Meanwhile some of my friends weren’t expecting their meal to be hot - there was no indication it would be. They couldn’t eat any of it and as it was past 9pm, apparently food could no longer be cooked. They were offered dessert as compensation, so they had no main meal. I got the impression that the staff were desperate to shut up shop for the night. The desert was half decent but my stomach wasn’t so I couldn’t finish it. I walked out feeling sick. To sum up it was a bad experience for me personally and a number of my friends. The staff were modest enough but not competent enough; there were only nine of us and they couldn’t get the order right for food or drinks. And either the chef wasn’t up to it or they buy lousy quality products, or both. I will not go there again.

We are regular visitors to The Harrow because of the great beer, friendly staff and quaint atmosphere. And last night we went for the tasty food too. We’ve taken several friends and family to the pub too and everyone loves it. There’s a monthly quiz too. My only criticism would be that the chairs could do with improved cushions - they’re quite uncomfortable after a while. Otherwise another lovely evening, thank you

We rang ahead on returning from the coast on August bank holiday to be told plenty of room . On arrival we were greeted no problem at all ... strangely from an old classmate of my Sons. Once seated the service disappeared. I spent over 15 minutes trying to grab various staff members attention. They appeared to have learnt the art of manoeuvring around the bar area without ever looking up at any tables !! Eventually I managed to grab the attention of one who passed me on to another I paid for our drink and left without ordering . Staff training needs to be addressed....as a business person I cannot think how much revenue is being missed by the staff not being pro active and lack of peripheral vision ! It appeared to be run by 3 Saturday staff more concerned about sharing what they had done the night before. No obvious person in charge. I would not recommend purely on staff we never tried the food.

Flabbergasted that they would sit a couple in an annex with families with young kids and babies bot relaxing at all . Such a shame as food here is good. That was disappointing. The sticky tables from dissolved varnish because of the antibacterial cleaner they use, need to be sorted as it’s a horrible feeling. I follow a plant based diet and there is only one main option… it was a very bland and boring falafel burger.. deep fried mush with no noticeable seasoning and not a nice texture. All staff seemed efficient but not attentive or particularly friendly. Missing a trick if you don’t check how the table are after food is delivered. ‘Is everything okay with you meals?’ Or ‘can I get anyone any more drinks?’ None of that helpful service, so the business owner should be concerned on not maximising potential trade. The merlot wasn’t great, there are much better wines out there for the price. I’ve been coming here on and off for many years and it’s lost it’s mojo…! Hope it recovers soon, but I won’t be rushing back. Shame.

There is a check in point set up for you to wait by to be seated in the garden. Our table hadn’t been sanitised, which each table seems to be between diners leaving and new arrivals , so we waited whilst it was sprayed down. The seats were wiped dry but the table top was not, I wiped it dry with some tissues that were unpleasantly dirty after doing so.Full table service only but no tabs or final bills are available. Payment is requested after every order you make for food or drinks.Service was a bit hit and miss and our first food choices were not available. But once all of that resolved the food was the same reliable, solid pub grub that we’ve always had there on every visit. It was busy with a lot of walk ins turned away throughout the time we were there, so pre booking is essential.

Hello managerCame to your pub fir a meal this evening as my husband loves your pies. Pie was good and my dinner was lovely. We sat in the restaurant area. A member of staff asked us if were eating and we said yes so two menus were brought to us, and from then on the service went down hill. A group of 4 people arrived after us but were on a reserved table and they were served before us, we had to call to the waitress to take our order, and my husband had an empty beer glass and was not asked if he would like another drink, he had to catch the staff member to get another drink. Not once were we asked if our meal was ok. When we were finished our plates were eventually cleared away and we were asked if we wanted the sweet board, which we declined. Both our glasses were nearly empty and again no one came over to see if we would like another drink. During all this all the other tables were being served and looked after, it was as if we were invisible. A couple opposite us could not believe how we were being ignored we tried to catch the members of staff attention on several times to get the bill, but were totally ignored. The same couple said we should just get up and leave, but we didn’t, we went to the bar and asked for the bill , which we were given, but were not given any chocolates which everyone else were given in the restaurant with there bill. Won’t be coming back in a hurry if this is the way you look after your customers.Very disappointed customers.Mrs Lynette Thomas.

We don't get much opportunity to dine together without the family. It was a nice treat to visit our local The Harrow. Its an old fashioned venue; not one of these trendy pubs. Its cosy a little dark in some corners as the windows are small but very traditional. They have a big garden outside backing onto woodland walks. So for good weather and smokers there are plenty of tables and a covered area. You cannot book outside tables. It is dog friendly in the pub however, One side houses a small restaurant which isn't. There is table service throughout. They serve good pub grub at reasonable prices. I'm a veggie and there are a few dishes on offer, their houlumi burger is good with sweet potato fries. They also serve gluten free buns. The staff and owner are very friendly and helpful. They do get very busy on sunny weekend days so don't roll up expecting to find a table (pre book in doors to be safe).Drinks from bar are reasonably priced.Toilets ok.We use this pub for food quite alot I even had my 50th there with family it was lovely. Ordered half pint beer and wine spritzer. A pint came and glass wine, not what I ordered . I asked what veg was with roast and she said I don’t know! Maybe you could find out then ! I ended up ordering chicken breast but it was so smothered in something that you couldn’t taste it was chicken and it was the only thing I could taste for the rest of the day

Group of 9. There was no greeting entering an empty pub. Table was opposite the service bar. Staff very noisy chatting together! Placed an order for 9 and served six. Had to wait for the 3 specials - shrimp linquine special which had miniature shrimps (expecting jumbo) and a watery sauce. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, how did they run out of the specials!. Service was very poor, had to request menu for both desert and coffee and the bill. This was our last stop after a month touring Europe and I am extremely disappointed with the pub. Growing up in Caterham, The Harrow was one of my local pubs that I frequently visited.

We had a couple of drinks before our meal and were served promptly by a friendly and professional bar man. Then we were looked after by a lovely friendly waitress and the assistant manager. They were rushed off their feet because they happened to be short staffed that evening due to staff illness but remained friendly, smiley and professional. The food, especially considering they were short staffed, was really good.

Good menu, good food. Somewhat lacking in lateral thinking. A guest asking for a burger, no bun no fries, could be offered a side salad instead? Surely its obvious they are off carbs?? GBP 13.50 should cover more than a meat patty and its toppings?

We come to the Harrow once a year to re- visit the place we were all brought up. This year there were 23 of us and the pub managed us superbly well.

Made the mistake of booking a Sunday lunch table at this well-reviewed pub. On arrival we were told out table was in fact in the decidedly more down market pub area, as opposed to the restaurant section. Also told how busy they were - always a warning sign and generally a code for not enough people on shift. However, there still seemed to be plenty of staff meandering aimlessly behind the bar, to little effect. No matter.

A group of family and friends set out for a two hour walk starting and ending at The Harrow. When we arrived back at the pub it was very busy but we were lucky to find an outdoor table large enough to accommodate all of us. We ordered food and were advised there was a 45 minute wait but that was ok, we were happy to enjoy our drinks, conversation and the wonderful bank holiday sunshine.

A family dinner on a Saturday night for 6 people (and our Samoyed dog) was a challenge to book just two days in advance, but The Harrow rose to the challenge splendidly.

We arrived at 6.30 on a Saturday night without a booking. No tables available in the bar and we were told we could have a restaurant table if we left by 8pm as was pre booked. Fine by us. We all had differing pub grub type meals . They were all of a good standard and well sized portions. Only one of us had dessert, which is just as well as we were asked to vacate the table at 7.45pm as the party who had booked had arrived. A surprisingly good meal, we won’t ever make the mistake of just turning up again without pre booking if we want to eat.

Been here a number of times. Staff very friendly. Menu is a bit limited but usually there are interesting daily specials. No specials on tonight but we had burgers and they were good.

Just what a pub should be all about, and I am glad it remains a real pub as it is my local! This place is good for a drink, good for a snack and good for a full meal. The big burger is just that - enormous, and great quality, good meat and fantastic trimmings cheese, bacon, onion rings, pickles, bbq sauce! My pal had a chicken burger which looked great and was real chicken not some reconstituted stuff. Great value, good beer, just as it should be!

Our walking group ate here recently. Although the food was very good and the choice of dishes suited all tastes, our pre-ordered meals took a long time to arrive (over half an hour).

The pub seems to have lots of cars in the car park most times of the day as I pass by on my cycle. I thought as its 4 out 5 it must be good. I think they have changed and are on a slope down. We looked for a quick meal local and booked over the phone. As we arrived the bar and area was empty of staff. There was a few people already in and eating and seemed to be busy.

We popped in for a last minuet valentines day lunch and had a superb meal. We had normal pub food, fish and chips and a chicken burger but both were superb. The chicken burger has haloumi, guacamole and crispy bacon and it was perfect! A good side of chips and yummy home made coleslaw! Even my sons chicken nuggets were really good, nice breaded chicken breast meat.

This is the second time we have visited this pub, tucked away down the lane, the first for pre-meal drinks only. We were impressed with the service, atmosphere and the look of the food upon our visit and decided to pop back for a meal. They serve an alcohol free beer, which tasted good! We visited early eve and didn't book a table but were fortunate enough to take the last one. The bar staff were friendly and informative and mentioned it was £7 for fish & chips (weds eve special) to which we obliged. We were not disappointed with our large cod set upon some chunky chips with a pot of mushy peas + tartar sauce, it was delicious and certainly good value! Upon glancing at the menu, I noticed they have lamb stew with dumplings, which is a favourite of mine, so that will be my next choice! Definitely worth a visit.

Bit of late decision but fancied a ‘proper’ pub visit for Sunday lunch and got that at the Harrow. Busy when we got there and got busier so definitely book. We are in the bar as we had the dog as did several others. Food was good and 4 clean plates at the end. Little disappointed not to be able to have a roast option or two but what we had (chilli, burger, fish & chips and a pie) was all enjoyable and tasted home made. Service was OK but had to ask for plates to be cleared after lengthy wait , out that down to busy lunchtime.

Lovely salad box and mug of tea. Freshly prepared and very tasty. Just one tiny fault was that they had their radio on in the kitchen area which was a bit loud and they couldn’t always hear what the customers ordered. Perhaps turn the volume down just a tad! Apart from that it was perfect!

Service was poor/ lacking and bordering rude. Despite being told to ‘sit there whilst we get you menus’ it turned out that was indeed our place next to the bar prep area with all its banging and crashing. So many staff but no captain (the lady I assume was in charge was not interested). It was organised chaos. Took orders for drinks but they never arrived. Requested jug of water, didn’t arrive. I don’t think the same member of staff came back once. Dinner was great quality etc - except I was rudely told I couldn’t get more potatoes only the cabbage, pretty odd considering they charge over £20 for a carvery. I honestly thought our table was invisible to them. Kept having to try and catch their attention and they’d do anything to look away. Really unfriendly. Desert was bizarre. I fancied a chocolate sundae, I got 2 ice cream scoops with a fat chocolate cookie forced in between. Ridiculous. And to top it all I asked for the bill and that person said yes then 10 minutes later was doing something else so I ask again. They charged me £18 service charge too! Such a shame as the building is lovely, food (carvery anyway) was nice but the service was astonishing - a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant.
