This is a proper old skool pub. The food is utterly amazing...lots of it cooked with attention to detail. Sunday roasts were just divine. Veggies are made a star not an afterthought. Cheese board was epic too. Im not local but will be back next time im with my friends

First time visiting The George and we were delighted! We booked on a Sunday as we’re looking for a good local pub for a roast. The restaurant was fully booked but we managed to book a table in the bar. The food came out promptly after we ordered and was delicious ! A great selection of veggies to accompany the beautiful roast beef we had ordered. We were not going to have dessert as we were too stuffed…. but did succumb in the end to the chocolate mousse and the crumble. The service was great, the food delicious and the pub was busy so a great atmosphere. Have booked to come back with friends ☺️

My 3rd visit to this picturesque community run pub, and with each visit I have been welcomed with warmth and superb hospitality. This afternoon there was live music in the beer garden (a very talented solo artist) and al fresco paella - a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the sun, and exactly how a family friendly pub should be. Thank you x

Service very poor. Wine we chose they had run out. Run out of Pork After 30mins had to ask if they would take our order. The bottle of wine we chose was just put on the table, not opened or even put in a cooler. Dinner took over an hour to arrive. The duck was tough and luke warm. Although we complained and were not charged for one meal and offered a complimentary drink each, it was too little too late. ,

Had a delicious evening dinner at The George tonight. Great food, great service. Started with homemade bread and homemade butter... superb, together with amuse bouche. Then we had main courses of hake, lamb and minute steak. Followed by chocolate and passion fruit fondant for all of us. Accompanied by Malbec, gin and tonic, Harvey's bitter. Thanks to Jim for the delicious food, and thanks to the ladies who served us.

We decided to visit The George for Mothers Day due to the many recent five star reviews. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff and complimentary Prosecco which was lovely. Also given amuse bouche which was a nice touch. We ordered roasts of lamb, beef and chicken.. not disappointed as all meats were of excellent quality. The vegetables however were a different story… the potatoes were very well done, the yorkshires black.. when cut, gravy oozed out. So somehow they were burnt and soggy?! The cauliflower cheese had black bits in it.. possibly mushrooms of just burnt. The carrot and parsnip were soft it was clear this food had been left on hot hold as the dishes were metal therefore unmicrowavable.. thus it was all luke warm. During service, not offered sauces, serving spoons, no one asked if we were happy… until most of it went back and then we were asked. However, again the staff were lovely.. very patient with my grandson who managed to knock his drink over and on leaving we were given chocolates. I am writing this as constructive criticism not to be difficult!

I had the pleasure of dining at The George recently. The food was excellent (I had the Duck leg spring rolls, followed by guinea fowl) & the amuse bouche at the start was a nice surprise that set the tone for the evening. I was lucky to be dining with friends who were happy to share desserts - so I got to try both the chocolate & blackberry fondant, and the Apple tart fine (Wow!). The George is definitely a hidden gem that I highly recommend (I suspect it won't be hidden for long, so might be best to book). I look forward to returning.

Our first visit to The George Pub in Betherden. If you go for Sunday Lunch you will not be disappointed. A Warm and inviting atmosphere awaits with cosy log fires in both bars. The new chef certainly knows how to present the perfect Sunday Lunch. Good choice of meats, we had the lovely roast beef with Yorkshire pud, stuffing ball and four dishes of excellent veg, so different to the usual cabbage, broccoli & carrots served at most outlets. The friendly & efficient service in the restaurant and bar is spot on with a nice selection of well-kept cask ales & plenty of flavoured gins. Obvious why the community got together to save this gem of a pub. Will definitely return in the near future.

We don’t normally go out for Sunday roast’s as it is very easy to be disappointed, but we went to The George in Bethersden and had the most amazing Sunday roast. We had the beef which was a thick cut slice cooked to perfection and easy to cut with a table knife served with a variety of vegetables, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pub. Very friendly and attentive staff and warm and cosy atmosphere. Can’t wait to return for our next meal.

Privileged to be one of the first to sample the food now on offer at this amazing pub. The Sunday lunch was exceptional quality, from perfectly cooked top rump of beef, perfect crackling pork loin, and moist herb crusted roast chicken, all accompanied with a lovely selection of vegetables, roasted carrots and parsnips, celeriac purée, braised peas, cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes. The desserts were equally delicious, with the Black Forest Eton mess going down particularly well! The staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout. At £22 pp for two courses without doubt outstanding value for money.

The George in Bethersden is a friendly and comfortable village pub as well as a cafe in the mornings selling lovely home made cake. This week they have employed a chef and following the first Sunday lunch I absolutely can recommend the food. Children’s portions are available and the pub is child friendly with a nice garden where bored children can let off steam. Booking is recommended as already very popular. Can’t wait to see what other delights the new menu will offer and all the staff are helpful, friendly and efficient. We will be going back next Sunday for a Christmas Eve family meal.

Following a recent refurb the George in Bethersden has re -opened as a community pub and cafe and it is certainly well worth a visit. The landlady and bar staff are welcoming and the service is very good with a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Families are welcomed and we enjoyed the garden and the BBQ during our visit . Both myself and my family will definitely be returning maybe to one of the special events that were being advertised. Although the kitchen is not open at present there is an agreement with a local company to provide food on specific evenings and I was told that the kitchen should be opening very soon as it is being updated.

Terrible ...we eat in many fair priced and high end establishments and this was apuling. From the initial phone call to book and through out .. waitress was misrible throughout .. burgers where burnt and buns were burnt . Gamon was green . Fryer oil was old and there was a hair on one of our mains. This is me eating in a pub oposite one of the best butchers in kent hahaha. Complained to waitress and suprise she was even more misrible .. almost like she knew what was going to be said .. without hesitation or question she took 3 mains off the bill as if this was a regular accurance. We was not going there after free food as we would pay £100 a head for the right food but this is appauling. wouldnt even take home for my dogs (literally). Highley dissapionted and would steer clear if you like your food . We was a table of 4 with one other table of 8 so not like the chef was under preasure bearing in mind they are also running a limited menu .. call us what you like but we are not food critics but just like to eat good food and this was a shambles .

Went here as an impromptu lunch get together with friends (my girl friends and I get together for a Hair Doo Dah Day every 6 weeks and our favorite hairdresser has just moved to the salon next to the pub ... so we decided to give or other halves the opportunity to join us the opportunity to join us for a spur of the moment lunch). First time for all of us at The George but it certainly won't be the last! The food was superb. Between us we had the sea bass (that was mine and I have to say it was probably the best I've had), lamb casserole, beef bourginon, cod & chips smoked haddock and gammon, egg & chips. All meals were very well presented, generous portions with a good selection of fresh vegetables cooked "just right". For desert we had spotted dick, Apple tart and a couple of ice creams (I had the coffee one - oh my goodness, so creamy and full of flavour!). Again, these were all generous portions and very well presented. The whole bill including drinks was just over £90, which we thought was excellent value for money for the quality of food we had. The lady who served us was so friendly and very welcoming. We will definitely be back in 6 weeks when we have our next girlie hair doo dah day, if not before as the weekday evening offers look very good value.

We were a big family birthday party but the staff at the George coped wonderfully. We had sent in our menu choices in advance and everything came just as we had hoped and was delicious. We had ordered quite a range, from Sunday roast to vegetarian tart and from beef burger to salmon with vegetables, but the service was excellent and we never had to wait long for the next part of the meal. It was great to have an open fire and the arrangement of the tables round the fire made it all very cosy on a cold December day.

The waitress took our plates away and said it was eat as much as you like I cant see this was the case as there was no staff in the restaurant to serve us, it was too late as the waitress had already taken our plates. Stacks of deliciously cooked meat, really tasty gravy, yorkshire pud, courgettes, cauliflower, carrots, beans, sugar snap peas. All for £7.95 and SO GOOD! Oh and proper cracking with the pork too! Choice this week was pork, beef or chicken, or some of each. Lovely, really, lovely. They also have a regular menu, which I am afraid didn't get a look in, but seemed equally good value. We didn't have much room left, for dessert, but managed some Simply Icecream (surprise surprise!) Decent selection of well kept beers, nice range of whiskey. Can't comment on wine. We came here for Sunday lunch shortly after the new menu was launched and enjoyed it so much we brought the whole family to celebrate my birthday in August. The Sunday roasts are excellent, a choice of meats from a local butcher, roast potatoes cooked to perfection, fresh and plentiful vegetables, puffy and light Yorkshire puddings, and jugs of extra gravy. There's a choice of other dishes on the menu too, I had the sea bass which was delicious, and a couple of the youngsters had the burgers, which were huge and the chef's own recipe. There is a good choice of starters, I recommend the tempura prawns with a chilli dip, other members of the family enjoyed the baked Camembert with crispy bread to dip in it. Desserts are delicious too, especially the chocolate cheesecake, and there's a choice of icecreams. I have to say this is the friendliest pub I have ever eaten in. Lovely landlady Jo also serves the food and is very helpful. I got chatting to some local people and they all said how much they'd enjoyed their lunch and particularly liked the new menu. I've visited The George three times in the last couple of months, always on a Tuesday (steak night). I'm sure any other night of the week it would be just as good as the management clearly try very hard to put The George at the heart of the village and to offer something different to tempt the customers in. £22 for two steak dinners with a bottle of wine takes some beating, especially when the meat is as good as it is here, and the desserts are pretty good as well (if you're not a cream fiend you might need to ask the chef to dial down his generosity on that score with a couple of the offerings, mind!). The food's been consistently good and I've enjoyed the atmosphere created by local people quietly socialising in their own back yard with a good pint and a caring landlady. I won't be back in Bethersden for the foreseeable future now, but I'll be sure to swing by when I am.

We have recently moved to the area and can't believe what great value for money the food is. My son and his friends (15-16 yr olds) love the chicken stack, the home made pies are really home made and stacked with filling, the fish and chips are unbelievable value for money and taste great. The most expensive dish we have had is a special at £15.95 being steak with prawns (again great). Nothing is a problem for these people, most dishes come with new pots AND chips and vegetables, but I prefer to have just new pots and salad and it has never been a problem - just goes to show everything is cooked fresh on site.

We visited The George in order to try their steak night (2 steaks and a bottle of wine £22). On entering the pub we were immediately struck by how dimly lit the bar area was, being only illuminated by a number of candles and a rather forlorn looking set of partially working Christmas lights. (Fortunately the small restaurant area was better lit.) our order was taken quickly at the bar and we were pointed to a table. The food was delivered promptly. The plates were of a good size, however, the amount of salad, chips and peas (bullet hard) was enough to feed a family of four, and completely swamped the rump steak. The whole thing reminded me of the sort of steak platter pubs used to serve up in the eighties! The steak itself was well cooked and flavourful and as such would have benefited from a simple dressed salad, some grilled tomatoes and mushrooms an a sensible size portion of chips to compliment the quality of the steak not to try and overwhelm it with a jungle of undressed sald.

We've been to this pub several times and on the whole it's been an enjoyable experience the food is fresh and the potions are healthy. The only disappointment was on one occasion when the waffles arrived they did not have any chocolate sauce in spite being advertised as being chocolate belgium waffles the overall dessert just didn't have the quantity and quality which it had when I had ordered it previously. If it weren't for this disappointing experience with the dessert which was hopefully a one off we would have awarded 5 stars.

Went to the George after reading the reviews on here. Well we certainly were not disappointed. We had the Sunday Carvery and it was delicious with lots of fab roast potatoes and the Leek and Cheese bake was yummy. To finish we both had the Chefs home made cheesecake, all I can say is wow! A big portion of caramel and white chocolate cheesecake made for a perfect all round meal. To top it all the meal was fantastic value. Highly recommend a visit but I'd say we were lucky to get a table on Sunday so maybe a booking would be sensible.

We visited the little pub for lunch today with our two children. We were really impressed with the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere. It is a lovely traditional village pub which offers excellent value for money. Definitely worth a visit. We will be returning soon.

Called in on the off chance they had a table one Sunday and luckily for us they did. We had the carvery which was very good value for money with plenty of extra vegetables provided. We will be returning again soon to this lovely quaint old pub.

The pub was dark so given the autumn sun, we chose a recently vacated window table. Staff knew it was recently vacated but took an age to give it a cursory "wipe down". Chinese duck was swamped by the sea of overpowering sweet chilli sauce. "Medium" steak was a tad overdone. Carrots, cauliflower and courgettes were all welcome but so overcooked as to be ignored as food.

We've been here few times for Sunday lunch, it's always been good food at an amazing price (£8). Drinks are inexpensive too, and they do a good range of ales such as Old Speckled Hen.

Me and my partner stopped here for dinner last night after being recommended it by a friend. It is lovely and cosy and the food was delicious! Great value for money and you can tell its all homemade. Lovely little family pub, highly recommended. Will return again soon.

Had checked Tripadvisor before choosing this pub and the reviews were quite positive, so I'm assuming it's possibly better at busy periods or in the evening. One lady managed the bar and the restaurant but it wasn't exceptionally busy. My Dad ordered a ploughmans lunch and I ordered a Bacon and brie baguette. After waiting approximately 20 mins we were then told there was no bacon so would I like to choose something else. This wasn't a problem but I was surprised it took 20 mins to come back to me. After another 10 minutes the lunches arrived, very nicely presented and generally ok. The ploughmans was a little odd in that there was only half a very skinny baguette but with 3 huge blocks of cheddar which would have lasted my family a week! It just didn't seem in proportion. A pleasant enough experience but probably wouldn't go again.

The George is the epitome of a good local villiage pub: a proper public bar with pool table and open fireplace and cosy snug-come-lounge bar attached to the dining area. Beer is good and the food is jolly tasty and reasonably priced. And, unusually for a villiage pub, you can get a fairly good glass of wine too. Bar staff and locals are very friendly and the beer festivals and special events are always excellent and well attended.

Ive lived in bethersden all my life, and since this has been taken over by a fabulous family the food, atmosphere is fantastic! the pub is very family/dog welcome (we often take our mastiff up there and she loves it) The service is brilliant and very helpful, nothing is too much trouble and the food is amazing (prices are decent too, esp the steak and bottle of wine for 2 for £22). Now that ive moved away, whenever we come visit my parents who still live in bethersden we ALWAYS go for a meal there. Please be warned though the pub is very popular so if you want to eat in the restaurant its best to book in advance, although they are very happy for you to eat in the bar or outside.

Went there expecting to get food and decent beer. NO Food. Looks like pub is up for sale with little interest. Beer was OK, but pub noisy due to football. Definitely one to avoid. Went to Eureka for a nice curry instead,

One of the very best Sunday lunches I have experienced. Served piping hot and with a smile from our server. Beef was generous and left pink in the middle, great Yorkshires crisp on the out side but soft and tasty in the middle. Fantastic choice of vegetables roasted parsnips, red cabbage, cauliflower in white sauce and a side bowl of cabbage, broccoli and green beans. Roast potatoes were perfect for us crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Thick, tasty gravy and lots of it. Just a great and memorable lunch. Good selection of wine by the glass and beers. Staff are all smiles, efficient and charming. Instead of the beef my wife tried the vegetarian option and declared great alternative!

We had a very good meal at The George at Molash; we were welcomed on arrival and shown to our table, the service was very efficient and the waitresses were professional but also friendly. They looked after us superbly. We chose our meals and these took a little time to come out but we were not worried about this as we were chatting and food was cooked freshly to order. Other tables were informed about a wait for some foods as they were cooked freshly to order. This didn’t affect us too much as we ate quite early - table was booked for 6.30pm. The pub was very clean and tidy. The portions were good - for both dinner and we had a dessert. We finished the evening with herbal teas and were shown a selection to choose from. Overall we had a very nice evening at The George, and had good food, service and atmosphere.

Previously visited the Tearooms when they were located outside the front of Perry Court. The food was excellent and cheese, chutney sandwiches were huge and fresh. Has to be said for the new cafe the staff are great - however the new sandwiches are appalling. Cheap supermarket, sliced bread and a smattering of grated cheese for ££. Phenomenally expensive. A huge disappointment and wouldn't return.
