Lovely little tea room which does lots of different chocolate stuff worth a visit

Popped in for lunch after reading good reviews. Pegotty's did not disappoint. Great food at good prices. Amazing cake selection. Best apple cake.

What a great place for an afternoon tea. We were given at Tea for Two RedLetter Day Experience as a gift and chose Peggotty"s for its character and charm which we can say it is just that. The staff were wonderful and the food was fantastic. What a nice way to spend an afternoon. Highly recommend and we are sure that you would not be disappointed what ever you decided to have as their menu had lots to offer.

Just called in yesterday on the off chance of an outside table which was free. Very friendly helpful staff and the service considering was busy was very good. Food is delicious and a lot of it, worth every penny and we couldn’t eat it all and was provided with a box to take the rest home what more would you want.

Just had an amazing Speciality Afternoon Tea and can honestly say this is the best local afternoon tea I've had. A great idea to choose your choice of sandwich ( saves unnecessary waste), a choice of scone ( these are enormous), a choice of cake (a huge slice) and a choice of tea, all for £17.50. Very quaint surroundings and very nice staff. Well recommended.

This cafe was a total pardox for us. It is obvious that a lot of time, thought and energy has been put into the decoration which gives it a lovely, comfortable and welcoming feeling. The opposite side of the coin was the awful service. We were served by a teenage youth who seemed to have the attitude that the whole thing is some kind of joke. We waited about 30 minutes for him to come and take our order, just before I was about to leave. On the bright side, the bacon sandwich I had was probably one of the best I have ever eaten, albeit that is was probably one of the most expesive I have ever had either.

We went to Peggottys for a cream tea firstly to get in you have to ring a ring doorbell The staff were friendly and we were seated quite quickly once seated our order was taken shortly after there was a good choice of sandwiches but you are only limited to having one filling it’s extra cost for prawn or salmon as well (normally the cream tea comes with a selection of sandwiches) The scones were a bit over done and the fruit one had hardly no fruit but it was ok not the best we have had to honest the cakes were good just one choice not a small selection We were told we could have as much tea or coffee as we wanted but after getting our cream tea we didn’t see any staff again and was not offered any more drinks or asked if all was ok with the cream tea When we arrived a few tables still were not cleared of old plates etc Overall the tea room is nice but need a bit of tweaking

Every time we visit Tenterden there is only one place to go! The food is absolutely perfect as are the hosts. Couldn’t recommend enough!

I’ve visited Peggoty’s on several occasions for tea and cake. This time my husband and I went for afternoon tea which was a gift. It was one of the best afternoon teas we’ve had. The afternoon tea consisted of a choice of tea or coffee, a sandwich (normal size) from the menu with a choice of white or granary bread. The bread was so soft and the fillings plentiful. A choice of either fruit or plain scone with clotted cream and locally made jam. Then a choice of a slice of cake from their homemade selection. It was presented beautifully. It was so filling we ended up bringing our cakes home which were kindly boxed up for us. It’s always welcoming in Peggoty’s. We had the choice to sit outside in the beautiful garden but chose to sit inside where it was cooler. A delicious afternoon tea in a quaint tea room.

Love this place. A proper English tearoom with an enchanting little garden, delicious food and friendly service. Americans in our party were particularly delighted by the BLT which was the best they’ve had in the UK and the cakes are scrumptious. Reasonable prices too.

Lovely ambience. We sat outside and there were plenty umbrellas shading us from the scorching sun. Great menu choice. In fact it took me a while to choose! Staff very friendly, cheerful snd helpful. Enjoyed our lunch and were not rushed at all.

Fantastic Afternoon Tea. Delicious home cooked ham sandwiches and the best Coronation chicken ever tasted. Free tea and coffee top up. The scones and cakes were all home made and absolutely scrumptious! We couldn't finish everything so took cake home to eat the following day. Still as scummy as the day before. Well recommended!

We had a really lovely afternoon tea here today . It was well worth the 40 mile drive . Beautiful fresh sandwiches , scones and lovely chocolate cake ( which we had to take home as we couldn't manage it all ) Have had lots of afternoon tea and that was one of the best .

We were given a voucher for afternoon tea here so decided to go midweek and were not disappointed. The sandwiches were beautifully fresh and tasty and the scones as light as a feather. I had scone envy of someone eating a cheese scone with his soup and certainly plan to come back to try those. We were so full we couldn't manage the homemade cakes but a box was supplied and we had those later in the day. Friendly staff, excellent food and a nice setting - what more could you want.

Such a lovely place to take the weight off your feet. The food is great as is the service. Dog friendly too and not just in the well kept garden. A big choice of beverages on offer. The home made 'jam' is available to purchase too. I suggest you book to avoid disappointment as we have visited and found them closed for holidays. Take a look at our tea for two offering. Great!

Lovely place for morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea.

We called in for a coffee and cake. I actually chose tea ( loose leaf served with a strainer) whilst my husband asked for decaf coffee. We both chose the coffee and walnut cake. It was delicious. A good sized piece, moist, light, plenty of pieces of walnut, as good as any cake I have tasted in a long time, and a very reasonable price as well. The staff were friendly and we would recommend this little tea shop to anyone who wants an individual style with good service and sensible prices.

We had a voucher for Afternoon Tea and it did not disappoint. Clearly popular with locals as well as us tourists it was busy so would recommend you book as it’s very small, full of character, friendly staff but most importantly…. Delicious food! Loved the fact that it was a generous portions take on a traditional Afternoon Tea where you could choose your choice of sandwich from the normal menu, beautiful fresh warm scones ( as they should be) with generous amount of gorgeous jam and clotted cream. And then you had a choice from several lovely looking cakes to have a chunky slice of homemade cake ( which we took home as it was all so filling) couldn’t fault any of it ( high praise indeed from a fussy b**ger like me!)

What a little gem in the high st. So much choice to choose from. But went for a ploughman's and a glass of fizz it was gorgeous.The garden is a little treat. Could of easily gone for cake but being good. I could sit here all afternoon it's lovely. Visit here you will not be at all disappointed and the service is excellent and lovely people.Thank you.

We used a red letter day voucher for afternoon tea whilst on holiday in Kent. From the second we walked in Nicola made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble, the service was excellent, even though it was very busy she was very attentive and so friendly. Her husband makes the most amazing scones, they were warm, light, freshly made and so easy to eat. The bramble berry jam also made at Peggotys was like no other I have ever tasted. The homemade cakes, delicious and the sandwiches, with fresh bread and yummy fillings. We are from Devon but I have to say we have never had an afternoon tea like it, perfection. (We had the Tenterden special). Highly recommended. Good luck Peggotys all your hard work, certainly shows.

We had a voucher to use for afternoon tea. We had a lovely time, our tea consisted of a full round of bloomer bread sandwiches, fruit scone, clotted cream, blueberry jam and a massive slice of cake of our choice - we chose lemon. There was plenty of tea and coffee too. We had to phone ahead to book as the tea room is very small, the day we visited the sun was out and the little court yard garden was really pretty and in full use. The full price of the afternoon tea was 17.50 each which was very good considering how much food we got included. We would thoroughly recommend Peggoty’s.

My wife and I took our 10 year old granddaughter for afternoon tea. Friendly welcoming staff, well presented and delicious fresh food, very reasonable price. Absolutely can't fault it. We've had afternoon tea at numerous places and all things considered, this is one of the very best. The Kentish apple cake was awesome and our lovely waitress was kind enough to give my wife the recipe. Outstanding.

We visited with a buy a gift voucher and so glad we chose here! We had the afternoon tea, and could choose what sandwiches and cakes we had. Honestly, it was the tastiest and freshest food. The portions were big and we couldn't finish it so bought the leftovers home. The actual tea shop has a lovely atmosphere and set out beautifully! The staff are all lovely, we will be back for sure.

Absolutely lovely Afternoon Tea. Tea was loose leaf and strong. Sandwiches Were very tasty and fruit scones served warm with Bumbleberry jam and clotted cream were perfect. Had to take home the Apple Cake 😂 Staff were lovely and very friendly. All in all a great afternoon tea, highly recommend

Very pleasant tea shop in the centre of Tenterden. We visited at lunchtime. They sell a good selection of sandwiches, rolls baguettes and savouries. We had tuna and egg mayonnaise baguettes. Both were well filled and the coffee was good. Prices were reasonable. Well worth a visit.

The tea room is quaint and very small in size so booking is definitely required. We arrived 10 minutes early for our table and did not receive the warmest of welcome, so I would say don't turn up any earlier than your booked time as there is no space to sit and wait for your table. I decided to try the camomile tea but didn't enjoy the taste but the English breakfast tea was really nice. All the food tasted amazing; the sandwich fillings were so flavoursome, we had smoked salmon and cream cheese, BLT, prawn and avocado & brie and streaky bacon. We all chose the fruit scone and they were so warm and fluffy. The rolo cake tasted lovely but not an overpowering rolo taste that I was hoping for! The price was incredibly reasonable, I just wish the service was friendlier as I just felt disappointed after our visit as if we were an inconvenience to them.

Looked like a lovely little tea room so thought why not, let’s pop in. Lovely ambience about the place and grabbed a window seat. Wife had the leek & potato soup with a delicious cheese scone. I went for the Peggoties Cream Tea, Scone, jam and cream were sublime. The actual leaf tea was fabulous. Took the coffee & Walnut cake home for supper. Not the cheapest tea room but you get what you pay for and the quality was superb. Very friendly staff. Overall a lovely experience.

It is an absolute delight as always we turned up like a pair of drown rats and sat at the window next to the cute little Christmas tree and had a lovely lunch a nice chat with the staff and a big cup of hot chocolate with baileys delicious 😋

It's always a treat to have lunch at Peggotty's - I love the prawn jackets and my husband has TWO bacon sarnies. We often travel form Maidstone JUST to go to Peggotty's

Wife had a delisous cream tea which included a huge cake, I had poached egg on granary bread x 2, fantastic. Pot of tea each which we got 3 cups from each. I WILL call again when we are in the area. Easy 5 stars.

We love going to Peggoty's. Always good service and a menu of local favourites. It is particularly good for taking my 91 year old mother. She wants a menu that is fundamentally English and in which she can order a small portion without feeling awkward Ideally a little more floor space would allow the tables to be separated somewhat but in Tenterden that will always be a challenge The small space and the fact that they accept BuyaGift-style vouchers means that Peggoty's is frequently full, therefore pre-booking is highly recommended

I went today with my husband for afternoon tea, it was by far the most superior one we have had. The sandwiches were delicious coronation chicken for my husband & tuna mix for me, the bread was so soft & tasty. We have been for quite a few over the years, the scones and jam were delicious 🤤

We sat out front as had dog. Service was quick and waitress very polite. I had savoury afternoon tea and it was lovely with a warm scone. Husband had minestrone soup with a roll which he said was delicious . Will be back but without the dog.

Hier gibt es wunderbaren Creme Tea, sogar in einer herzhaften Variante. Die Sandwiches waren bisher auch immer hervorragend. Das Ambiente im Garten ist ebenfalls wunderschön. Eine absolute Enpfehlung.

My friend bought me afternoon tea as a birthday present and I chose Peggotys in Tenterden. My husband and I have just got home after a very lovely afternoon tea. Every aspect from sandwiches , scones, cakes, tea and coffee was all great quality and my my quantity too. We had to bring our portions of lemon and coffee/walnut cake home as there was no way we could eat them before we left. The staff are welcoming, fun and attentive making the whole afternoon magical. I recommend Peggotys wholeheartedly, GO you'll love it 💕

We had a fabulous afternoon tea at Peggotty's. Usually with afternoon teas, a selection of sandwiches are provided and as my husband doesn't eat smoked salmon, we end up swapping but we were able to chose which sandwich we wanted so I opted for a toasted brie and cranberry on granary whilst he had a toasted BLT both served with salad and lovely homemade coleslaw - delicious. Lovely fruit scones and finished off with a slice of Cherry Bakewell cake. Again there was a choice of cake. Nice twist as usually with afternoon tea you get what you are given. Leaf tea too which is always a positive. Highly recommend and will be taking my daughter there as part of her birthday present this year, followed by some mother and daughter Tenterden retail therapy I've decided but don't tell her!

Excellent tea room. Proper leaf tea and fair trade filter coffee was delicious. The BEST homemade cakes ever, with beautiful berry jam. So lovely we bought jam and cake to take home. WONDERFUL Thank you so much will return.

Never been disappointed with my visits here. Home made food, cakes etc. Favourites are spiced parsnip soup (comes with a swirl of cream & garnish) bread or roll. You must try the toasted cheese scones (cream cheese, chilli jam ad grated cheddar cheese) to die for. Great selection of sandwiche fillings, home baked jacket potatoes, Welsh rarebit etc. Apple spiced cake and clotted cream is amazing! They also serve cream tea. Lovely friendly owners and staff. Quaint tea-room with a beautiful garden and dog-friendly.

A little gem in Tenterden. This is a beautiful old tea room serving all homemade food, and the owners and staff are wonderful. However, if you are planning a visit, remember this is a tea shop so don't go there expecting a full English breakfast or other menu items from a restaurant, that's notbwhat they do. Also, don't be in a rush as food is freshly prepared. The ambience is fabulous, as is the food. Cakes are awesome. It's definitely worth a visit, and we will definitely be going back soon. Long live the traditional tea room!!

Very helpful co owner. We had a takeaway as it was on a wet day and didn't want to sit in. Nicola very kindly brought the sandwiches etc to our car ! Great service and will certainly return. I had a gift voucher and needed to redeem by a certain date. Highly recommended.

I came for lunch with my mum and nan today 17/10, the service was outstanding and the choice of food and drinks was amazing! We came here for lunch and wanted to share our experience as it was such a lovely and well kept place with super friendly and helpful staff. The menu was ample and had something for everyone and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we had. After chatting with the owner and finding out they make almost everything from the cakes and scones, to the delicious baked ham (yum) we were excited to be able to buy a jar of their homemade jam. Will definitely be going back.

Although the food was good I’m afraid I can’t say the same about the service. We waited quite a while to order and get our food, we only orders soup and a toastier!!!! Apologies were made due to food being dropped in the kitchen, but it would have helped had we been told of the delay before the food finally arrived. It did seem that the waitresses were absent in their appearance, we had to ask several times to pay and could have so easily walked out without being noticed! I also saw another couple who also appeared to be were waiting quite a while to pay. In addition we weren’t asked to do any track and trace, despite other customers being asked to do so!A takeaway order of sandwiches was made while we were in the tea room which were due to be delivered. However it took so long that the customer ended up having to come back and collect them himself!!!I would have understood if the tea room was extremely busy, but it wasn’t at the time!!!! On leaving I overheard one of the waitresses warn some customers just seated there would be a 25 min wait for food which I found strange considering it was not busy!Maybe we picked the wrong day but I would certainly think twice before visiting again.

We popped in for a bite after exploring the local area a little, and enjoyed a lovely cream tea. The scones were absolutely huge, warm, soft and full of flavour - quite possibly the best fruit scone I have ever had. The atmosphere was quaint and comfortable. The service felt very sporadic, it took us quite some time to flag a member of staff down as they were almost sprinting between tables. Luckily we weren’t in a rush! There was no Track & Trace or social distancing in place in this tea room.
