For me, hospitality is all about a warm welcome, and making people feel at home. The Earl Grey Team do this superbly. I've been coming over a year, and that loyalty has been rewarded with warm smiles, kind conversations, heart-to-hearts, top-notch service, quality coffee, and tasty food (sometimes prepared ahead of me arriving for my booking). The Victorian ambience is Southborough's oasis of calm (even if the staff might feel otherwise). For all hospitality's stress, The Earl Grey team excel. A big thank you to you all!

We managed to park in a side street and it was a short walk. There were a few tables free but it’s obviously a popular joint! The prices are average. We were served quickly, the fayre came promptly and was tasty! The side salad & coleslaw portions were tiny. Service is quite friendly.

Central location but without immediate nearby parking. The service is efficient and friendly enough. Large pot of tea £4.90 ish. Hot chocolate at £3 ish rather small. The cakes look average. The interior is very English but a tad dark and tables quite close together.

Ordered tea and scone for one. Tea pot made 3 cups, scone was warm, sliced strawberry on the side of the clotted cream, eclectic and cool crockery, all served with a friendly smile. Sandwiches being eaten at nearby table looked scrummy too - that will have to wait til my next visit! Easily the best cafe on the high street :-)

Four of us met here after a year of having not seen each other. Originally planning a brief cream tea, we were overwhelmed by the choices on the menu and instead all had a breakfast (the second for some of us that day!) and of course indulged in a slice of cake too! The tea room is beautifully decorated, relaxed and friendly and the service was excellent. Three hours after arriving we just about managed to heave out our weightier bodies and started to arrange our next visit. Though we are all an hours drive from this team room, we will certainly be returning for more visits to try and work our way through the delicious menu!

This is one of my favourite tea rooms that serves not only delicious cakes and afternoon teas but light lunches as well.I have visited this tea room many times and have never been disappointed- the team are always pleased to see you and welcome our well behaved dogs as well. On this visit my husband joined me and he very rarely gives top marks as he can always find room for improvement - the quality of the food was so good he gave it five out of five. This is definitely worth a visit and worth adventuring out the short distance from Tunbridge Wells town centre.Enjoy....

I have been to Earl Grey quite a few times and always enjoyed their food but I am perturbed by the fact that they allow dogs into a small café. Today a very large Labrador was getting in the way and allowed to wander around. There was also one lady with a small dog she kept lifting up and allowed to put it’s paws on the table and it also sniffed the condiments and sugar bowl. The table was not washed properly after she left, just had the crumbs brushed off. A customer came in and sat at the table, I would have said something but the customer moved away from the table.I then decided to leave before coffee and despite the lovely food I am not sure whether I will be back. I don’t have anything against dogs, but I do when owners don’t control them and in my opinion hygiene is not followed.

Wonderfully eccentric little tea room/lunch cafe in the unlikely location of Southborough. Traditional old-time style with quirky decor, old fashioned music and random crockery – somewhat along the lines of Bettys in York and Juliets in Tunbridge Wells but far more agreeable to be in than either of those rather overblown venues. The place is small, warm and friendly with seating for only about 25 max. It is noticeable that they have a loyal local clientele many of whom seem to know one another. The food is very good and freshly prepared to order. I had the full breakfast which was excellent – more generous, better quality and slightly less expensive than other private tea rooms. The Americano coffee was excellent, smooth and with good aroma – made with really decent fresh ground coffee (I’m not a tea drinker, so can’t comment on that). This is definitely the sort of cosy individual place which should gain a cult following and is absolutely not a greasy spoon cafe like so many in the area. It is bound to become the venue of choice for the more selective when the long awaited Southborough hub is completed opposite. Definitely worth a visit and recommended for breakfast.

Reproducing the late Victorian or Edwardian period this tearoom is a delight for your eyes. Traditional decor with glass display cabinets, colourful upholstered old chairs, turn of century crockery make it authentic. Unfortunately you will not find the waitresses in black lace dresses. The food is good too with large coffees and great avocado and bacon bagels. They do take away sandwiches and cakes you will remember from the 1950’s (if you are that old). The only downside is that parking is very difficult in this part of Tunbridge Wells although you may be lucky in the adjacent side streets.

I visited with my daughter-in-law and baby for an afternoon cup of tea, cake and chat. It is a very individual place, beautiful floral china, home-made cakes and a friendly welcoming atmosphere. It is something entirely different from the usual chains of coffee shops which, although OK, all look the same and the cakes mass produced.

I called in on the spur of the moment whilst visiting the area.I had never been to Tonbridge before. What an absolutely delightful place! A genuine ‘old fashioned’ Tearoom in the retro sense.Warm and comfortable, a friendly welcome, like stepping back in time. All the food is served on mismatched Bone China, tea is served in China teapots and is loose leaved and tasted excellent. My sandwich was huge, made to order and included a salad and homemade coleslaw, each in a China cup! Both were delicious. The cakes are homemade and are of excellent quality, light and so fresh. My teapot was topped up( without me even asking), so I had 3 lovely cups. There even is a loo, immaculately clean and on the ground floor. This place is a treasure and the people are so nice. There was no rushing either, I could have stayed far longer.Perfect for Lunch or Afternoon Tea.There was a well behaved dog there as well, so this Tea Room ticks every box ( to my mind). I live over 50 miles away but I will definitely try to go back. What a truly lovely place.

We popped in to enjoy some decent tea and cakes as our friend couldn't tell us enough about this lovely cafe. I must say we were not disappointed. The tea was properly made and the cakes we had were seriously fresh. Actually to call them simply 'cakes' is almost an insult. The only thing is not to my taste is that seeing pots and tea cups displayed everywhere. But what do I know? People seem to love it. Thanks.

It might look small from the outside but this gem of a tearoom is a must visit. It was a cold crisp morning outside when we went but from the moment we walked in you could feel the warmth and friendliness of the staff. It is quaint, a welcome change form the soulless high street fares normally found. We were there for brunch and there was no shortage on choice of food or drinks. I can personally vouch for the granola, yogurt and berries and the bacon sandwich and their coffee hit the spot. Sadly I didn't get a chance to taste the delicious looking cakes so will have to return. One note, they only accept cash which could be a challenge in a move to a more cashless society. However rescue might be at hand with a nearby cash machine. Many many thanks for a perfect start to our weekend.

Just missed the traffic lights to cross the road at Southborough and spontaneously decided to 'pop in' to The Earl Grey Tearoom' for a quick coffee. To be honest when it opened a short while ago I thought it had little chance of success. First thing I noticed that was it was surprisingly busy for 9:30 on a Thursday morning. The atmosphere as soon as you go in is brilliant as they have kitted it out exactly as it would have been back in the 1920's, and there is traditional tea room music playing in the background. Our tea was served in a proper old skool tea pot with a strainer which was just fun, and the delicious home made cakes and sandwiches we ordered arrived on a cake stand which looked amazing! Having spent the last year working on Southborough High Street the Earl Grey has certainly brightened up my lunchtimes. Their coffee is the best I’ve had here in the UK and the “daily specials” allows me to have some variety in my day as far as food is concerned! So far the loaded Bacon & avocado on Rye has been the best. Just what this High Street has been lacking. Sweet little cafe close to the pantiles. Very cosy, owner very chatty. We had two tuna melts (little side salad with nicoise was nice add-on) with a flat white and a soft drink.
