What a gem! Beautiful pub quite hidden away but well worth a visit. Happy, friendly staff help to create a lovely ambience. The service was very good friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. Our food was very tasty and well presented and a very good selection to choose from! We had travelled from London but will definitely come again

Extremely popular, so much so that you really need to pre-book for Sunday lunch, or risk being at the back of the queue and missing out! Not a huge amount of parking - again, be early or miss out! The staff were very attentive and helpful. We didn't manage to get the Sunday roast we were hoping for but the food we did have was delicious, although the portions quite small for the price. I look forward to going again, but will be sure to plan better next time!

Popped in for Sunday lunch with the family yesterday, been trying to book a table for weeks and always fully booked, now I know why!Food was outstanding, we had calamari and chicken wings for starters, Sunday roasts for mains (decent sized portions) . The service was outstanding, the setting was casual and relaxed, and they cherry on top, Siya Kolisi ;), can't wait to come back. Also noted they had some fab events lined up, will definitely join you to support the boks!. Hope you get some more outside tables for summer to accommodate all your returning customers . Thanks for lovely lunch. (P.S pretty please put don pedro on the dessert menu.)

Just had the most delicious dinner at The dewdrop! Warm welcome, and cosy atmosphere as always. We were sat by the fire in the main bar, which was lovely. Starters of squid for my husband and home made hummus for myself were very nice. We both had the Lamb curry for main which were extremely tasty and very filling, highly recommend. Proper country pub with proper homemade food.

Awesome place, tucked away in the woods, down a road where one would not expect to find an inn. As in the days of old, refreshments, good company, and lovely food awaits the traveler. We were on our way to return rental car to Heathrow and my husband found this place online. So glad he did. Exceptionally warm and welcoming folks own it. Can’t wait to return.

The last review said the Dew Drop was closed when the reviewer arrived. We checked the website and it seemed open. A mobile number we found rang out without the ability to leave a message. We persevered and found a landline, the phone was answered and indeed they were open. Arrived just after midday and car park only had 2 spaces left. I guess a lot of walkers park and walk first. Nice friendly welcome but then things went downhill. Hardly any choice of white wine, first 3 we tried to order were unavailable. Lemon automatically added to tap water, I recommend giving a choice. Cheapest of paper napkins. Starter of camembert was faultless, lovely bread. Definitely one to share. Main courses, the chips were not good, needed to have been cooked in fresh oil. Burger, quality of meat seemed good but not asked how we wanted it cooked and it was overcooked for our liking. The slice of processed cheese plonked on top beggared belief. The greens (veg), that had to be ordered as an extra, were the highlight. My fish was overcooked and therefore dry. When our plates were cleared the waitress noticed how much was left on the burger plate and asked how was our food, we honestly replied ‘ it was ok’. No reaction, no apology. We asked for the bill and were told to queue at the bar to pay. We were asked again how was our food, this time I was hopeful she would react to our response of ‘ok’. Yet again, ignored. Sadly I don’t think we will return.

Although the meal was nice, in my opinion the sirloin of beef was cooked to 'blue' for me that's not a problem for a lot of people it would be. Unfortunately, we were not asked how we preferred how it was cooked. I understand it was a roast. However, when it is underdone, it would be a good idea to ask. The other piece of advice is when you order sirloin or, in this case, striploin, you should ask the butcher to larder trim it so the sinew under fat is removed and stops it from being chewy. On a plus, the sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I have had.

Evening All We (me and The Boss) are on a "stayaway" for the weekend. Staying in Hurley ('twixt Henley and Marlow) at The Olde Bell near the Thames. Not too far from home. For dinner last night (Friday) I chose The Dew Drop Inn up in the hills above Hurley. It has recently been taken over by a South African team. Seen some pretty good reviews. So we ventured forth. Great location in the woods high up in the hills from Hurley. Excellent varied menu with a couple of specials. For my starter I chose the (special) dressed crab with celeriac remoulade with apple straws. Delightful. ToH chose the torched fig, prosciutto, and blue cheese. Delish. For my main Hurley forest venison loin on couscous cous. Generous slices of pink venison. On the money. ToH selected the house beefburger. With signature sauce and a mountain of crispy chips. Delish. We shared a side of heritage beetroot, orange, and walnut salad. Lovely balance. Finished with a mostly shared sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. One of the best. Very highly recommended. Going again tonight. Bravo Marius Sarah and Team Dew Drop! Cheers

Everyone has been singing this pub’s praises on the henley group chats so we decided to go up and visit it last Friday with the family. Didn’t realise it was run by South Africans the day before before the England South Africa rugby - and they were in good spirits. The venue blew our minds - put simply it was brilliant. The homemade billtong and chicken wings were the the pick of the options. But everything was spot on. And the staff were so friendly and attentive. Lovely team - made us feel welcome and part of their extended family. Can’t wait to go back - it’s going to become our regular. Though we will wait until their rugby celebrations over beating England has simmered down. Great work team - you are an absolute asset to the henley and Hurley communities. Keep up the good work.

New management a month ago so disregard anothing written before July 2024! New people were lovely, South African couple previously at stag and huntsmen in hambleden, they told us. Very friendly, and food was lovely - the little chorizo croquette is tiny but delicious, the home made sausages very good and the fish of the day - Red Snapper - was lovely and a very generous helping for £16.50. A good Brakespear pint too at normal pub prices. It was Friday lunchtime so not super busy but the kitchen / service seemd to cope well with a couple of large parties that turned up. they are getting v busy on sunday though - also have a programme of special events mainly around south Africa rugby matches and barbecues! I wish we lived a bit closer... watch out for the tricky single-track road to get there though. Oh and they welcome dogs, walkers and kids, none of which the previous landlord partcularly liked, we understand!

My husband had the lamb which he said is to die for! Served nice and pink just as it should be. Both accompanied by an abundance of vegetables and of course crispy, fluffy roast potatoes. Read some negative reviews on the place. It's clear this place puts the food first. What we were served was superb. The flavours were exquisite and textures perfect (including the greens). The presentation was basic, and this is where I think people start to get confused. This is Michelin quality food trying to be homely. The ambience is that of a regular country pub. You will not be blown away by what you see, but the taste will explode in your mouth. Could there be more options (veg and wine)? Yes. Could the service be better? Yes. Could the seating be better. Yes. Could the pub look more impressive? Yes. Don't worry about these - they are acceptable -it's all about the food. Looking forward to my next visit.

My wife and I found the chef/tenant to be most unhelpful and unwelcoming when we recently made a 20-mile round trip to visit this country pub for a lunchtime drink. Their space is limited and they are only interested in assisting diners, not drinkers, walkers or cyclists. We may return (although my wife doesn't want to), but only if we are going for a fairly expensive meal. A great pity, as the location is both quaint and highly desirable.

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting The Dew Drop Inn in Hurley again on our annual UK driving tour from France. We visited last year based on the reputation of the Chef and we were as delighted with our meal as we were last year ! I had the misfortune to read the "1st review" from Mark J just prior to posting though and am amazed at such obvious spitefulness and hope others ignore it ! Perhaps Mark J is associated with a nearby restaurant ? If you want 74 options for your main then stick to High St chains where your choice is taken from the freezer and 'pinged' in a microwave ! The Dew Drop is a delightful little Pub that is more a fine dining restaurant in my opinion. It's a small place, it has a small kitchen hence offers a small (but very acceptable) Menu. Everything is cooked fresh, the kitchen use the best produce available and the cuisine is classic French. The family who run The Dew Drop cannot do enough to ensure that your visit is as enjoyable as it can be. Our meals and the service were faultless. The meats were as tender as can be and full of flavour, the jus all made in-house by the Chef is incredible ! The vegetables were fresh and cooked just right - Mark J's review of them are so far wide of the 'mark' !

But not sure the menu is aimed at passing trade with smoked eels as a starter and highland deer as a main. And a big sign outside warns "no muddy boots". Restricted menu options and vegetarian options were “NO… you should have called in advance “… what about asking when you receive the booking. Wine menu tiny. Portions pathetic. Quality of food average and way overpriced. Glassware, cutlery and plates all basic… pudding options were ok but flapjack instead of crackers with cheese was very odd and did not work. So expensive for what was a very poor quality of service and food.

Once upon a time there was a film director turned restaurant critic named Michael Winner. When he REALLY liked somewhere, he’d describe it as “Triple Historic.” I feel that he would really have liked the Dew Drop. My wife is vegan 🥗. She is also a foodie. They don’t have to be mutually exclusive. When we booked for Mother’s Day my daughter let them know her mum was vegan. No problem. The most phenomenal pithivier was prepared. The crab starter was amazing. Expectedly prepared and such balanced flavours. I had the most delicious lamb. Cooked to perfection and served with generous amounts of fab roast potatoes, veg and cauliflower cheese to end all cauliflower cheeses! The front of house staff are all lovely and lunch service was expertly paced. Thanks all. We will be back.

My visit to this delightful country pub simply could not have been more disappointing. My wife and I had so looked forward to visiting it, and nothing would have given me more pleasure than to give it a positive review - but sadly that was not to be. We had first visited this beautifully positioned pub some 12 - 18 months ago, and had been disappointed to find that it was at that time closed due to refurbishment. That's life. Not a problem. Maybe next time. On our second visit, in February 2024, we made a round trip of 40 miles to sample its wares and standard of hospitality. Before setting off we consulted Google and ascertained that it was open until 3.00 p.m. We arrived at 2.35 p.m., closely followed by eight cyclists who had tackled and overcome a reasonably difficult and tiring hill climb in order to get to the pub (and who were consequently all gasping for a drink). We were all disappointed. The bar had apparently closed 5 minutes before our arrival, at 2.30. Despite our pleading, there was no way in the world that the owner/chef was willing to give us a drink, even if we consumed it outside the pub, in the garden. The owner/chef is best described as 'a round peg in a square hole' - he should not be working in the hospitality industry. I could not agree more with previous reviewers - walkers, cyclists and drinkers receive a frosty welcome - only well-heeled diners are welcome at this establishment. What a great shame! In my personal opinion, the owner/chef is 'cutting off his nose to spite his face'. Sadly, wild horses will not drive me back.

Our recent Sunday lunch here was most likely the very, very best we have eaten. The vegetables superb, fresh, buttered nice and soft too. Roast potatoes and Yorkshire Puddings wonderful no after thoughts here. Beef truly and quite impossibly in a class of its own. The family service impeccable and preemptive at all times, smiley, jovial, happy and fun! It was on this Sunday extremely busy, however the waiter and waitresses held their nerve and coped well, after one table charge off without paying. Well then how exciting this old Pub is these days. No other Pub like it around, thoroughly recommend.

In the enchanted forest of Hurley lies the marzipan Pub that is the Dew Drop Inn. Arrived on foot we did, and with our slippers in our pockets, because of the forewarned mud and flooding around and about. A fire blazes in the bar and the smell of good cooking are the comforting smells in this tiny pub. Freshly made bread, really nicely presented starters, followed by properly cooked, hot clean main course’s with really lovely sauces. Sunday lunch at its best. Dessert, the most gooey Honey Pudding with ice cream and a wafer kind of biscuit truly lovely. Wine, Pinot Noir, okay £22, strong Coffee Macaroon, Madeleine and Canele lovely touch. Service from young staff in this day and age of mediocrity, was, I kid not absolutely excellent. Dad ( Simon Bonwick ) is the Chef and a proud, passionate one at that. The Dew Drop is worth the journey and the awards heaped on it will surely keep on flooding in we guess.

As you can see from the most recent review they were expecting a complaint. I should say that I was one of the diners involved in the “outburst” and we were the last customers to leave the dining area so the observations made in the review are confusing. Also at no point did we refuse to pay the bill. This is not about money. My companion found her lamb rather chewy and as such didn’t finish the majority of her dish. We mentioned this to the waiter who cleared our plates and mentioned it again when presented with our bill. We had a conversation with the waitress who turned out to be the chef’s daughter. We suggested that the lamb might be removed from the bill since it hadn’t been eaten. She said she would go and speak to her Dad. What occurred next will sound made up but I assure you this is what happened. The chef approached our table, banged both fists on the table and said the following: “You have three options. 1, you pay the bill. 2, we sort this out in the car park. (Which I took to mean he wanted to fight us over the bill). 3, I’ll call the police”. This was both aggressive and intimidating as he loomed over the table in a by now empty dining room. After this he went away and I stood up to address one of his staff. I was shaking with adrenaline and had no idea what might happen next. The chef (Simon Bonwick) then reappeared and said words to the effect of ‘I think it’s time for you to leave’. When we did try to leave we found the exit had been bolted shut which considering the door is also a fire escape is concerning. The waiter unbolted the door for us and we duly left. Shocked, angry and grateful for the relative safety of our car.

It's not often you find a gem and less often you witness an outburst by a disgruntled customer. Firstly I want to record our personal experience which I have to say was first class on every level. Not something I take for granted these days having been disappointed with some of our experiences in restaurants with a much higher price tag. My daughter and I said exactly the same at the time of booking so I suggest you read the intro before you book then in doing so you are clear on your responsibility as well as the restaurant stating what they can deliver. I live reasonably locally and those that I spoke to in person all said the same. Have a varied palette and enjoy being taken on a culinary ride and you won't be disappointed. This in mind as a pre Mother's Day treat my daughter booked and we arrived on time and shown to our table. The menu has a limited choice but I could have ordered everything on the menu as they all sounded delicious. Between the three of us we all had something different and each dish was was a blinder. It would be pointless going over each selection in detail as the likelihood of the same being available is not a guarantee when as a chef you work with what is in season and available locally. The table who clearly were not impressed with their choices decided to up sticks and leave without paying despite eating 2 courses and downing a bottle of wine. Most seasoned diners would not have dealt with the situation in this manner and we felt the chef remained calm and listened to their views. Sadly the situation did not end well and before a negative review is posted I wanted to give a view from the other side. It is a small restaurant so my advice is to book in advance as several members of the public who turned up on he day left disappointed as the restaurant was full.

Absolutely excellent food in a delightful pub. Very attentive staff and super friendly. Phoned ahead to book and they kindly catered for the vegan in our party (very tasty thank you). The others loved the lamb and the deer pie. Desserts were fantastic too. And the special crab starter. Clean plates all round. We’ll definitely be back for more (and lovely walks from the pub).

Popped in for Sunday Roast last weekend. The venison pie was melt-in-the mouth divine, pork roast superb and the wine by the glass was excellent. Fire in hearth, great atmosphere and staff were absolutely lovely. However, for the sharp price, the vegetable portion for two was miserly, more like a portion for one. Also, no one checked on our food, if we'd like more wine, desert menu, etc. We were sat in the 'bar area', which seemed to lack staff attention, as the team seemed to be in the restaurant more. We had to flag them down for anything. Lastly, the coffee was 'meh' for the venue. Just need work on portions, attention and better coffee (!) and next time we'll request seating in the dining room.

Fabulous food and venue, but being charged for vegetables that were suppose to be included left a bitter taste . Serving staff were really good. Being the only ones in the restaurant i was suprised the chef did not come and say hi and socialise at the end at least. We did sit down late but not an excuse to be what seemed to be a moody atmosphere from the kitchen !! Real shame i would have given an exemplary review otherwise. Its not a cheap place but i consider it extremely good quality. It use to be just a pub 48 years ago when we were regular punters and still has the charm but from what i understand drinkers and ramblers etc are not welcome , missing a trick i feel. Hope that business picks up for the gaffer just 7 customers in total this evening.

Simply one of the tastiest meals I've ever eaten. The roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The lamb was tender and slightly pink. The gravy was sublime and on a par with that my late Grandma made when I was a child. A lovely secluded venue with charming staff.
