Lovely meal and very good value. Good range of 3 course meal choices. Great ambience based on the historic building and, unusually nowadays, the linen table cloth/serviette seating which in most pubs has been replaced by sticky plain tables and paper napkins. Only minor point is that there is really only one vegetarian option in each course which may impact some guests' view of the menu. Great bitter aswell, their own Windsor &Eton Thatched Tavern bitter plus two others....

We ordered 3 roast dinners and was served 1 v. small side dish of vegetables. Also, roast potatoes were few and not crispy enough. If not for a large Yorkshire pudding, it was not enough.

During our visit to the UK from Cyprus, finding a great Sunday lunch is always on our agenda—and The Thatched Tavern exceeded all expectations. This charming restaurant, tucked away in Ascot, is an absolute gem. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome, and despite being fully booked, the service remained attentive and seamless throughout. The atmosphere was inviting, setting the perfect tone for a relaxing meal. Now, onto the food. Every dish was beautifully presented, bursting with flavor in every bite. The roast was simply exceptional—so much so that when it came time for dessert, my husband made an unusual but telling choice: instead of something sweet, he ordered another Roast Beef! The staff told us it was a first for them, and it certainly was for him too. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our experience so memorable. To the superb chefs and the wonderful staff, your dedication and passion truly shine through. We can’t wait to return!

Where to start. Such a wonderful & welcoming place to eat. I organised a large family get together, 15 adults & 3 children under 5 for a long overdue catch up over a Sunday Roast and what a wonderful time we had. The service was outstanding, we were never made to feel rushed and the food was incredible! We were seated in a large private area which holds between 12-20 people which was perfect for us as we didn’t have to worry too much about disturbing the other diners. I cannot recommend The Thatched Tavern enough, whether you are looking for a cosy romantic lunch or catching up with friends or family you really won’t be disappointed. Thank you all for a fabulous afternoon We’ll be back 🥰

Very different to previous visits. My friends and I agreed. Veg rock hard, meat hard, desserts good, wine pricey. Didn't like sitting on the aisle seat - constantly bumped by staff. Back door being used, icy cold blasts of air down your back. Would I go back? Probably not.

Lots of places describe themselves as gastropubs. This really is one! Lunch today of salmon & beetroot starter, followed by calves liver, followed by baked orange cheesecake was simply superb. My lunch companion rated the venison starter and cherry crumble as perfect - the seafood linguine as good. Nice to see curated good quality wine specials (3 red, 3 white) available by the glass, as well as the normal wine list options. First class experience - thank you.

Lived nearby and was a regular here though the 90’s & 00’s. Family & friends, special occasions or casual lunches - always superb. Moved away but had the opportunity to relive those wonderful memories last weekend. Visited for Sunday lunch, seated, immediately asked if we wanted to order, asked for a few moments, drinks brought to table, and then… nothing… we had become invisible. After 20 minutes we eventually managed to shout/wave/interrupt a staff member, we were told someone else would attend, someone did, but only to take away the menus, said we hadn’t ordered anything yet, staff member looked shocked, said someone else would attend, eventually someone did and we ordered - over 40 minutes of pantomime before the meal arrived. The roast beef really was absolutely superb. Glad the kitchen is still at the same high standard. Had to ask for salt & pepper. Had to ask for other condiments. Had to ask for more drinks. There were at least 5 waiting staff. Something’s not quite right! I notice you didn’t forget to add the service charge though! Nostalgia is a funny old thing. No need for me to ever return.

I came here to eat with my partner and our 2 daughters on Thursday the 24th Oct at 4:45pm. We were given a choice of seating, handed menus but no wine list. We ordered our drinks but they took a long time to come. I asked if they're gnocchi was home-made, the waiter told me yes, so I ordered this with 2 more mains, and some things for the children. The gnocchi came, but it was the wrong starter. They gave me the chorizo macaroni. So I had to send it back. We still hadn't been given any cutlery or side plates. The gnocchi then came out, I asked again to the waiter if he was sure if was homemade. Again he said yes. I'm an Italian development chef. I know my food. I know my restaurants. Some bits were given to the children, but no offer of condiments or salt or pepper still. Mains took a long time to arrive, even though I knew the chicken pie takes around 20-25 minutes to cook. When they delivered our mains, I asked for some dessert menus for the kids. They forgot to do this, so I had to re-ask them. We ordered the eton mess. The waiter said ok, it's just to share for the kids, so I asked for 2 spoons. I had to ask for the children's plates to be cleared also. The waiter then came back to tell me they didn't have the eton mess. What a mess.... So I ordered some ice cream on the house. There was no check back, no ask on how the food was, and to be honest the food is bland. Even the mash for the pie was so under seasoned. It really needs a push to get things a bit better palate and tasting wise. I had to get up to ask for the bill, and when the waiter came over, he eventually told me the gnocchi was NOT home-made. Come on. I already knew this. He took it off the bill. Could be great here, but we were left in a corner and it wasn't well executed front and back of house , when we were the only table eating. Not good enough for me.

We had booked Sunday lunch for 1.30pm for 5 people well in advance. Although the food was very good, unfortunately we did not enjoy the experience as it was crowded with too many tables squashed together and extremely noisy . We were sitting back to back with a table of young women who very loud , so much that we really needed ear plugs! I mentioned it to the staff, to see if we could have another table, but he said that 5 was an awkward number!! ' Just ask them to keep it down a bit' Also we were squashed onto a table for 4 people not 5 people, although we booked weeks beforehand. Because of this I would never return there again. Nestled in the heart of Ascot, The Thatched Tavern is a hidden gem that effortlessly marries history, charm, and culinary excellence. As a Texan revisiting after 25 years away, my recent experience at this 400-year-old pub left an indelible mark, making it a sentimental return to one of my family’s favorite haunts when we lived in England in the 1990’s. The experience was every bit as good as I recall. The Thatched Tavern's ambiance is nothing short of enchanting. Stepping inside is like going back in time, with its low ceilings, ancient rafters, and a cozy warmth that immediately envelops you. The historic charm is palpable, transporting hungry patrons to a bygone era, and the careful preservation of the pub's original architecture adds to the allure. It's a place where you can almost hear the echoes of conversations from centuries past while relishing the exquisite flavors of the present. The friendliness and genuine warmth of the staff was impressive. Despite being thousands of miles from home, the team at The Thatched Tavern made me feel like a cherished guest. Their attention to detail and dedication to ensuring a delightful experience made the perfect evening as I reminisced about prior visits to the tavern with my parents. I could feel the spirit and presence of my mother, who is no longer with us, as I dined once again at a place that was a treasure to her. The menu at The Thatched Tavern is a delightful blend of tradition and refinement. The menu’s offerings are a testament to the chef's skill and commitment to quality. Each dish is a carefully crafted masterpiece, showcasing a diverse range of flavors while remaining true to the pub's British roots. From hearty pub classics to more sophisticated options, every item on the menu is a culinary delight. A word of caution to taller patrons: the low ceilings and ancient rafters add to the authenticity of the experience, but do mind your head! It's a small price to pay for the privilege of immersing yourself in the rich history. And thank you again for sending me away with my own commemorative Thatched Tavern pint glass. I promise to put it to good use!

You have to visit. No words can adequately describe this place. We both had a beer and the calves liver which was cooked to perfection (pink). I could have eaten from the whole menu, but hey, it was only lunch. Service was superb. The venue is an ancient site, apparently a building has occupied the site since 1480. Fire in the hearth, great bar. Selection of wines, beers etc are enticing. You really do have to visit from wherever you are!

We were asked to leave our 1:30 table at 2:50 as the next guests had arrived. I’ve been visiting the Thatched for 40 years or more but hadn’t been for ages. We have just moved to Ascot and can walk to this place. So we did for Sunday lunch. My lack of visiting didn’t take long to become rather obvious as I nipped outside to the loos - apparently they were relocated inside many years ago! It appeared to be fully booked so there’s a lovely atmosphere. I had some pasta starter which was amazing, Mrs had a pate dish which she loved. Then roast beef with all the trimming and a side of cauliflower cheese (absolutely must). Totally yummy. No room for pud. Plenty of drinks - beer for me, cocktails for Mrs and decent red wine. About £75 a head. Excellent value considering what we had. Top service too. Just need to try and remember where the loos are next time.

The quality and quantity of the meat was poor (lots of sinewy fat running through the beef and only two small, thin slices) and one bowl of vegetables between 6 felt on the mean side. We also had to look for table service several times.

As always The Thatched Tavern was brilliant. We took friends and they loved it as much as we do. Lovely friendly team, excellent food and the best Guinness locally

Absolutely loved this quaint pub and restaurant. Paulo and Gabs served us perfectly and the food is delicious. We found you on Google reviews and here is another great review. Had such a fun lunch here with my Mum, thanks for a great afternoon.

So I have been coming hear for over 30 years. A great real English pub and with excellent food. I treated my Thai girlfriend to her first beef Sunday roast. It was excellent as was the Argentinian Malbec we had to accompany it. Great staff. Great garden. First class.

Fantastic historic pub dating back to the 15th century, we were lucky to have live acoustic guitar that evening which really added to the ambience, service was amazing and the food was good enough, the reason for 4* and not 5 is the poor beer selection - no good craft beers, weak and tasteless bitter on draft, very few bottled/can options and an array of commercial and not very good lagers, frustrating that this is another pub that hasn’t embraced the craft beer movement which is reflected in the poor quality beer. Other than that great.

Had the Sunday lunch option in this quaint venue but I have to say I was disappointed! The staff were great but the food fell short, the beef looked amazing but it was full of stringy sinew and the vegetables were the wrong side of raw to be edible! Sorry people but I've had better :-(

We visited the pub for the first time after living in the area for many years and we were not disappointed. The service was exceptional and food delicious. Shared some “for the table” as starters, choice of mains was good and puddings shared. All plates were cleared!

We had a lovely relaxed Friday lunch at the Thatched Tavern. The staff and customers were friendly. They have a good selection of beers including a house bitter and pilsner made especially for them by the Windsor and Eton brewery. The food was very good and there was a nice choice of dishes. Worth booking if you go on a weekend as it gets busy. Recommended, we will be going again.

Lovely old pub, excellent food, in particular the roast. It was busy but the staff did a great job and came across excellently. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely go back.

Absolutely gem of stop over pub for motorhome and delicious Indian dinner. The chef/ Landlord even came and chatted with all customers, staffs were good and quiet stopover night. The price for foods were good value for money comparing back home in Wales. We will be back. Thank you from both of us from West Wales. 🏴

Nice, cozy place for dinner and drinks! The steak and ale pie was amazing! We liked that this place was walking distance to our hotel/guest house and to the shops in town.

Just visiting the area and picked this of the many local hostels in the area. Fantastic food ! We both had fish for mains (hake and gurnard) and they were cooked to perfection. Service was great and overall it’s a lovely place to eat

There was a good selection of beers and cider. We had food which was nice and the atmosphere in the pub was excellent. The bar staff were friendly and helpful. I would eat and drink here again when in Windsor.
