Bel and the Dragon in Windsor and Maidenhead

We didn’t stay here but came for breakfast and were really pleasantly surprised; service was great and the food was delicious. We had a range from smashed avocado with poached eggs to a full English and everyone left full and happy. Would definitely come back and highly recommend

We ate very well. The pub is typical, you walk forward and enter a very beautiful and bright dining room. The cuisine is refined and the menu varied.

Absolutely stunning food and staff were fantastic. So attentive! Had food from their new menu which was all cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. There are many different choices. Something for everyone. A lovely atmosphere, very welcoming and definitely one of the best establishments for us!

Went for a last minute lunch here following a trip to Windsor Castle. First thing to mention which is outside of their control is the parking can be challenging. Plenty of pubs along the road and can take some time to find a space. Previous eaten (a while ago) at a ‘sister’ pub to this one and had a fantastic meal. Today we ordered a children’s meal (was fine) and a Mac & Cheese and Pumpkin & Sage Ravioli. Now I had the Ravioli and ate it all, mainly because I hadn’t eaten and just done 20,000 steps around a castle however I thought it was very bland. Not much flavour, 7 or 8 pieces of Ravioli, it was well cooked but ‘maple roasted’ aspect didn’t come through at all. Not much pumpkin flavour from the actual pumpkin or sauce too I found. The Mac & Cheese my wife had, she left at least 50% of it, it’s not really Mac & Cheese, it’s very large pasta with Cheese and Mushrooms. Theres no creamy sauce, she found it dry, no indulgence aspect to it. If I could give halves I’d give 2.5 but as I can’t went for 2 because I thought for c£2 per piece of ravioli it was abit steep. Would say from the images on the board and reviews seen the Sunday Roast looks a hit, shame we didn’t go 24hrs later…

Food was cold and average really for the price.

Management is absolutely horrible to staff, especially the blonde manager. The way they mistreat staff is unlike anything I have ever encountered. Do not support this business. The main manager made a threat to one of the waitresses for making one mistake.

The Bel and Dragon has a fabulous private room just off the main restaurant. You can close the sliding doors if you like or keep them open and enjoy feeling part of the restaurant. The room also opens out onto the beautiful garden. We booked this stunning room for a milestone birthday with family. The menu choices for a group of our size were varied and delicious. The pre-ordering was very straightforward and communication from the team was excellent ahead of the big day. On the day itself an elderly member of our party was taken unwell at the start of the celebration. The team went out of their way to help and to provide anything we needed. Our party numbers were subsequently depleted as other members of the family were needed to take care of the relative. The staff were fantastic at altering the catering numbers seamlessly with not a word of complaint only concern. The team ensured the celebration could continue despite the worrying events. The food was excellent and the service was amazing. One younger member of the group absolutely loved his dessert - 'decorate your own choc chip cookie' - that arrived with all manner of fabulous accompaniments. The staff, service and food were all excellent and I would highly recommend the private room for a special occasion.

The latest visit was on Christmas Eve to celebrate my parents 42nd anniversary, but it is really an ongoing appreciation of two great gentlemen who work there, Nick and Chris. The food is always nice and generally the service is good. These two though really understand hospitality. They know just how make the guest feel welcome. They seem to fit Bel and the Dragon so well, and make it a 5 star experience.

We went to celebrate how family get together we where very disappointed when the main course came one of how quest meal was forgot and buy the time it came we all fished I ordered venison just 3 pieces on the plate with very little vegetables and I don’t no watt happen to the potatoes just to finish it was not worth the money lovely place but the food very disappointing I will never go back

Thank you to the team for making our Team Christmas Dinner such a lovely time! From the booking and organising, through to the evening itself, the service was stellar. The food was delicious - everyone I spoke with loved their meals, and we also appreciated the beautiful Christmas decor! Thank you for a brilliant meal. Highly recommend.

Food was absolutely appauling!!! Burgers were like rubber, small portion too. Kids roast chicken came as beef, sent it back for them to bring chewy overdone dry tasteless pieces of chicken breast with zero seasoning along with slapped up in a hurry peas and broccoli, again no flavour!!! Charged service on top of that too!!!! Disgraceful. Avoid at all costs.

Cosy restaurant with a decent bar and menu. Unfortunately there are quite a few inexperienced waiting staff. I had food dropped on me twice by two separate waiters. These things happen and I’m not the type to make a fuss but would have expected a discount on the bill. Unfortunately no discount was offered and I don’t think the manager was informed.

We met our son and his girlfriend at the restaurant for lunch. The staff were helpful and the service was good. I have some allergies and had pre-ordered food, and it was excellent.

We were looking forward to staying here but it did not start well when we were told we had been "upgraded" to a larger room, however on being taken to the room it didn't have a window as it had been replaced with mirrors, we were then given a standard room with a window! We went down for breakfast just before 09.00, were served coffee and tea and our breakfast order of full English and vegetarian was taken. After finishing my coffee I eventually managed to attract the waitresses attention for some more coffee but still no breakfast. some time later breakfast was taken to two other tables (of two people), so we thought we would get ours soon, but of course we were wrong. Both the other two tables finished their breakfasts and as they got up to leave our breakfasts finally arrived around 45 mins after our order had been taken. My wife's vegetarian breakfast was good but mine certainly was not worth the wait with two small slivers of streaky bacon, one sausage, a tiny hash brown, one mushroom and the smallest pot of baked beans I have ever seen, and of course once again I had to ask for more coffee! To sum up the service was very poor with a ridiculously long wait for breakfast to be served, and not worth the wait when it finally arrived, we ket expecting John Cleese to jump out!

Visited the Bel and Dragon for a Sunday Roast with our daughter who has a bad dairy allergy. We mentioned this as we were shown to our table. For dessert our daughter was handed vegan chocolate ice cream with a dairy milk flake on top!!!! When we asked for this to be taken away immediately as she was handed dairy and the flake was obviously touching the vegan ice cream, the staff didn’t seem that bothered, and made us feel as though we were being difficult. We also saw the chef “huff” at the fact that he needed another order of ice cream! We mentioned how dangerous and unacceptable this was to two members of staff, both apologised and said they are “working on improving” but to be honest this is not good enough. I would definitely avoid eating here if you have any form of allergy as they clearly do not take it seriously enough!! Also they have hiked the prices of their roasts up and instead of getting good value for money, you get one half of a carrot and some very dry chicken! Such as shame as this used to be good for a family roast!

A group of 7 of us booked a table at 7.30pm. Mains arrived around 9pm, I ordered a Mac and cheese main but as we were all catching up, we weren't too bothered about the time delay for the mains to arrive. When the food came out, the service wasn't the friendliest, but we just thought it was due to busyness at the time. All of the other mains arrived and when we asked where my main was, we were told that there wasn't any Mac and Cheese left. The rest of the table started to eat (we weren't advised there was none left at the the time of ordering). Then a dish was brought out that was 'kept to one side' but was extremely mushroom heavy and not at all, in my opinion or anyone in our parties opinion - a Mac and cheese (see picture attached). I asked the waiter if this was actually a mac and cheese, he replied that he didn't know what else it could have been. I noted it was extremely mushroom heavy and not what I was expecting (and had hardly eaten any), he mentioned that maybe it was the truffle - then just took it away. We paid the bill and service charge, but will not be returning.

Delicious good, lovely staff, well priced. They made a fuss of the children and an extra effort was made since it was our golden anniversary. The place was interesting, it had a really good atmosphere and overall a great success.

So sad that this place has gone down hill so much. The menu was limited and the service was so slow that it impacted our meal and enjoyment. We met up with my brother and his daughter and had hight expectations having eaten here a few years back but it wasnt anywhere near as good as it used to be

In an area surrounded by excellent restaurants this is by far our favourite go to place for special occasions and also guaranteed great family meals out. Tonight we celebrated our wedding anniversary and again were not let down by the amazing food and exceptionally friendly staff. We booked in for 2 nights, Friday 21 and Saturday 22 August 2020. Very good and easy check-in with useful information such as guests are entitled to complimentary sloe gin and Tasker whiskey during their stay. Entering our room we were informed by a notice on the outside of the door to our room it had been Covid cleaned on 13 August. Going into the room it smelt musty from being unoccupied for a week but happily it did not take long to air the room because we could open the window. The positives are the room was a good size and clean. The bathroom was clean with lovely complimentary soap. The down side only a coffee machine, no tea nor were there any glasses or bottled water. Due to "Covid Precautions" no room cleaning or removal and replacement of dirty coffee cups until after our departure. Very disappointing and questionable when coffee and drinks were served in the restaurant. In the restaurant and bar the food and drink was FABULOUS ! The chef and his team and the waiting staff work very hard and were always happy whether at breakfast or dinner. Very good menu, very good wine and very very good beer. After dinner on Saturday evening we sat in the garden around the fire pit and enjoyed a few hours talking with very table service - I could not have asked for more after a full day walking the Thames Path and visiting the Stanley Spencer Gallery. I would recommend staying at Bel and the Dragon and Cookham for a long weekend. In fairness I would stay again and give a rating of 5 if we had had some room service. When we raised the lack or room service when we left it was only then we discovered there was no room service due to their Covid house keeping practice and which we should have been told on checking-in. Thank you everyone at Bel & the Dragon for a lovely weekend.

The atmosphere and service were brilliant. Food was mediocre. My main meal was muddled up with another order and when I received what I had ordered it was fairly uninspiring, partially cold, and disappointing. i wasn't charged for the meal in the end. The other 2 people I was with said their meals were reasonable but not amongst the best they had eaten. Unlikely to visit again in the immediate future.

Pub is beautiful, room was perfect, staff where great and couldn't help enough- we took our 8weeks baby and they was really helpful. Best pub breakfast i have had!There is also plenty of other pubs nearby to explore. There is no corner shop or supermarket walking distance make sure you have everything you need before you settle down.

Great restaurant and fantastic food. However they currently seem to have a problem with wasps in the garden and eating outside was not an enjoyable experience. The staff were nice and sympathetic, however we had to ask a couple of times to move inside to finish our food even though there were a lot of empty tables (I understand these would have been reserved, but we just needed a few minutes to finish eating away from the wasps as the situation was so unmanageable).Would not come back to eat outside, which is a shame as both the place and the food is lovely. However it might be different if you are just going for a drink as the seating is in a different part of the garden and they did not seem to have a problem with wasps over there.

We booked here as a family for a celebration and could hardly have been more disappointed. All i can think is that they have had changes in the kitchen. The food was really sub-standard.Starters were ok except the crusty bread they provided with the mussels amounted to two slices of soggy baguette bread.Main courses were a huge disappointment. The rib-eye for £24 was a thin slice of fat, gristle and only a tiny bit of chewy beef. Truly terrible and one of the worst steaks i've had for a while. To make things worse, the peppercorn sauce was tasteless and the chips were thin, soft and over-salted. Others in our group had the chicken which was so tiny that it consisted of 4-5 mouthfuls, duck breast which arrived so underdone that it was cold and chewy and had to be sent back for further cooking. Three courses and soft drinks (plus only one bottle of wine) cost us almost £60 per head. It was painful to have to pay so much for such an awful meal. This place used to be really good but this first visit after lockdown was a huge disappointment and i can only imagine that either the chef was off or they have no experience in the kitchen - plus whoever buys the meat must be a vegetarian!We're locals but unfortunately we're going to have to write this place off our list of venues until one of our friends tells us differently - but we certainly won't be recommending this to anyone!

This was our first return to the Bel since lockdown. It was a delight to sit in the breezy garden and enjoy artisan bread with confit garlic, followed by hake with ratatouille and jersey royals (me) and wild mushroom tortellini with parmesan and crispy sage leaves (my wife). All very enjoyable.Service was excellent, and sensible Covid precautions were in place.

Went for lunch today. Very disappointed. Had fish and Chips. The chips were practically inedible, fish was dry. No cream available for desserts and no Pimms.

I visited on a Thursday evening with my daughter and baby granddaughter who slept in her buggy the whole evening. We were away for the night and wanted somewhere nice for dinner. We couldn’t have been more delighted at coming across this place.The food was really very nice, and hot. The service was wonderful - our waitress (Talia) had a charming blend of professionalism and humour. Not something I’ve come across too often.The only slight negative was that we were standing at the bar for some time on arrival and not acknowledged. If we had been, the rating would have been “excellent”.That said, our experience was one of the best.

I am on the last night of my stay. Staying here for business, I have been here 3 nights already. The rooms are cozy, well decorated and the beds are absolutely lovely. My room had a bathroom that was a bit small, but I was traveling solo, so not such a big deal. They do have other rooms with larger bathrooms, so you may want to mention that during booking if it is important to you. My room was directly above the pub and while I was able to hear the noise, it was not bothersome and did not prohibit me from falling asleep easily. My room did have a tendency to get a bit stuffy, but they had a Dyson fan in the room that cooled it down and also provided some great white noise that helped me fall asleep quickly. The restaurant downstairs was delightful. Ate several dinners and breakfast’s there, all delicious. In fact, the staff was able to arrange a dinner for 14 in the restaurant in a private space, as I was hosting a work function. Overall a fantastic stay and I would highly recommend. As a matter of fact, I will be back in a few months and will stay again!

From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a friendly barman who offered us advice on a wine & also gave us a taster. We sat in the lovery bar with an open fire before going to a table in the restaurant.We were very well lookes after by a lady called Fiona who was very attentive.The food was great however the only comment I would make is that I had a tiny portion on vegetables with my roast.

We had been to the Stanley Spencer gallery and decided to have lunch at the Bel & Dragon. A very good decision! The food was scrumptious. Stayed with a college for an away job and felt incredibly welcomed from the minute we walked in. Very cosy bar and wonderful rooms equipped with complimentary aloe gin and 12 year old scotch. The food is to die for and we couldn’t have wished for better quality. Fiona,bour server, was very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. My friend and I came for a belated birthday meal at the bel and dragon a couple of weeks ago. We loved the food - great veggie options! The service was fantastic - waitress overheard me say happy birthday to my friend and bought over a complimentary birthday board at the end. Was so lovely! Thanks girls! (Bailey and Talia) :)

I've lived in cookham for 5 years now and been a fairly regular customer of Bel and the Dragon. I thought it would make an ideal venue to host my wife's 40th birthday so proceeded to book. Because it was a group booking I was told we all had to order from the 3 course party menu, which seemed on the high side price wise. I tried to explain that this wouldn't suit a few of the members of the party joining and in particular my father who had just undergone quite a complicated intestinal operation and therefore couldnt eat much. But reassured them the majority of the group would be ordering a full compliment of courses along with plenty of drinks. There was no concession made for my father and quite an unapologetic response. I decided not to book for this special occassion as this made the whole affair feel quite awkward from the begining, the exact opposite ingredient the event required. I rebooked at a restaurant of equal standing a mile down the road and was a completely different experience, offering free proseco once they heard it was a celebration, completely understanding the requirements of the group and making us feel very welcome.With this attitude I wont be bringing my family back there, especially for memorable occasions.

Apart from the terrible breakfast, the gents toilets were a disgrace - one of the cubicles is not lockable, in the other cubicle the seat slides all over the place, and there were no hand drying facilities. Breakfast was poor for a number of reasons: the tea was lukewarm, no spoon was supplied with the soft-boiled eggs and soldiers (the eggs weren't soft-boiled and there were no soldiers - just two half-slices of bread supplied without butter, which when requested arrived too hard to spread), no black pudding was available for the full English and a very small piece of bacon was substituted for this. One gets the impression that breakfast is not taken very seriously at all and that everybody is just getting ready for lunch. It seems very complacent, and needs some attention from management. Will not be coming again.

This is a great little restaurant. Very pleased they were open, some of the other local restaurants were closed so soon after Christmas. Much better than the Windsor branch, the staff, the atmosphere and the food.

we have been dining here since it was renovated some years ago.we have had several Xmas day lunches and lots of celebrations here.

Nine of us came for lunch on the 5th January .it was my husbands 70th birthday.

Lovely Christmas 🌲 atmosphere, the food..absolutely delicious, plentiful and packed full of wonderful flavours. 4 of us had the suckling pig for main. All served by lovely smiling staff. We loved it...thank you

My girlfriend and I decided to try Bel & Dragon after hearing really nice things from friends. The evening was excellent from start to finish. The staff very attentive (with special thanks to Georgia who looked after us), food was great and over all atmosphere was superb.

We had THE most amazing Christmas lunch & I want to commend ALL the staff who worked on Christmas Day.

Stayed here for a couple of nights over Christmas. The front looked so pretty with its Christmas lights and this theme continued all the way through. We were greeted warmly and shown to our room in the Cottage in the courtyard. Such a lovely room! Not huge but warm and cosy. The bathroom was lovely. Clean and fresh, great walk -in rain shower and lovely shower gels etc. Towels were big and fluffy and warmed on heated towel rail.

We visited over the weekend for my husbands 40th

We've had some great times at Bel and the Dragon, but since it was acquired in 2018 by Fullers it has really started falling apart. Gone is the happy and relaxed atmosphere, and the attentive service. In its place is an anonymous and impersonal team of under-trained staff, who seem lost and lacking in leadership. A great shame - they still have the best executive chef in the business, but a truly great restaurant has disappeared. Insert 'Fullers slays Dragon' joke here.

This will be a fourth or fifth time my wife and I have visited The Bel and the Dragon. Once again an excellent lunch. This time the Christmas decorations were up and are beautiful. Again service was faultless and the food very good. Our friend has some food allergy problems but these were dealt with without any fuss. Thanks again to Chris and the staff.

£6 for a pint of soda with a dash of lime is robbery

Great looking pub with log fire and all the traditional pub features. We had lunch which was good and service was good also. The disappointment came when we returned later in the afternoon to sit by the fire and relax. I went to the bar and purchased a wine and soda and a pint of beer. The bill was £15:30!! £11:00 for a small wine and soda!!! now that’s totally overpriced. A small bottle of soda water was £2:50! We were astonished. So if you want to try bring deep pockets.

Visited today for Sunday lunch and have to say I was disappointed - mediocre food, served with below average service and over-priced.

We just spent a beautiful weekend here. It is cosy, with real fires, twinkly lights, and complentary sloe gin and whisky. The room we were in had the uneven floor you'd expect from a properly old building, but the facilities - including proper coffee maker, big comfy bed and excellent shower - are definitely not the originals from the 15th century. Food is excellent and the staff - from youngest waiter to the manager were all friendly, charming and helpful. We will definitely be back.
