Went for Sunday lunch with family based on the Trip Advisor reviews (thank you) and I am so happy we went. Received a lovely warm welcome and friendly and efficient service by a happy Team, food was yummy and a good plateful! and we had a nice chinwag with the Landlady when we reluctantly left. It was well worth the journey (about an hour from home) and we came away very happy. We will be back!

A pleasant village pub, busy because of a Christmas Carols event. Our food was served promptly and was cooked to perfection and well presented. The price was reasonable. It is a shame that no alcohol-free beers or ciders were available.

Excellent lunch today with family. As the weather was good we sat on a trestle table out the front, facing the church. We were looked after by two lovely ladies with table service. We had three courses which were all delicious, each chose different dishes. My scotch egg starter was freshly homemade with soft yolk. My whole place main with hassle back potatoes was very good, fresh and tasty. Maybe just too much “brown” butter on the plate for my taste. Side of veggies were freshly steamed. Affogato dessert with Amaretto for dessert had some biscuit crumb in the bottom adding and interesting texture. All wines available by the glass. Just be aware that the pub had no carpark and local parking is a bit tricky.

We were a pretty eclectic group of eight adults (two currently invalid) two children, a baby and a dog. We were given a lovely room to ourselves and from the point of booking to the second we left, we could not have asked for more. The staff were friendly and polite throughout with good service and even though we were out of the way in a back room, they kept checking if we needed anything and the space between courses was perfect. We were not rushed in any way but were not left to stew either. The pre-ordered food was fantastic, the black pudding scotch egg is to die for! Every one of us enjoyed our meals, from the gluten free fish and chips to the pork chop, pies and mushroom arancini. We couldn't fault anything. Thank you so much for giving me my best ever birthday meal out and although we found you by accident after being let down for another pub, we will be back and would not hesitate to recommend you.

The Crown is an ideal venue for a good value home cooked meal. We hadn’t booked as it was rather an impromptu event. There were 7 of us, Suzanne organised a table promptly for our group. My husband although having popped in for a pint on various occasions hadn’t eaten here before. His verdict on his pie , mash and veg was excellent, he said best pub pie in ages. The chicken curry’s went down well. The homemade broccoli and Stilton soup was delicious. Steak and chips fab. The puddings went down well. My niece ordered the chocolate brownie and requested whipped cream. Nothing was too much effort. Thankyou for your service and hospitality at the last minute. We will of course return.

Had a warm welcome from who we think was the owner and we booked a table on the back of that welcome and when returned in evening she asked how our visit to the Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery had been. She was friendly and genuinely interested in what we were telling her. It was a beautiful evening and so warm we ate outside. The food was really nice. We were driving back from Basingstoke & came across this pub. Now I didn't hold much hope out if I'm honest considering the fussy vegetarian I am. I thought my dinner would consist of chips and some garlic bread. However I was pleasantly surprised to find that they actually do a cheese and onion quiche. Quiche on a pub menu these days is a rare find let alone a vegetarian one. So for me it was a must have I'm going to be honest I did think the portion of quiche was quite small and I only got 13 chips with it but I got a huge amount of green leaves salad. Sadly salad is not my thing.

We popped in for a Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago, they were busy but managed to seat us after 20+ minutes sitting outside. They didn't have any spare menu's at the time, so we waited to be seated. The menu selection was OK, but a bit limited maybe because it was Sunday?Anyway I had the steak and Stilton pie and my husband the roast beef. Yes there was a big selection of vegetables but very little of each e.g. one spoon of swede a couple of small cauliflower florets etc.but they were nuclear hot (which is unusual but good). The Steak and Stilton pie was disappointing, a slice from a round pie (more tepid than the veg) with 3 pieces of meat and whilst I could taste the Stilton it tasted a but soapy. Watching others food/deserts arrive we decided to skip a desert and went home for a snack. Suffice it to say we won't be returning to this one.

The Crown has had its ups and downs over the last few years. Lots of country pubs have, unfortunately. After a brief re-incarnation 'as a kind of social-club/review bar' (most inappropriate for such a classic village, I thought,) it has found its feet again with the return of Les and Karen, the current Landlord and Landlady. They moved away a few years back, but thankfully, came back, and The Crown is the better for it! Food is served daily, lunchtimes and evenings, and they have introduced a takeaway Fish & Chips service each Friday evening. (Much needed as the village has no takeaway food outlet.) It has proved to be popular with the locals. Sunday lunches were always very good at The Crown, and I believe, still are! Seniors are catered for each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday lunchtimes, with four choices of mains and several and varying desserts at special prices......something for everyone. I for one am glad to see The Crown, (a pub with a history - ask Les - and a very nice location!) up and running as it should be....long may it continue.....

We came there for dinner as tourists :) found the atmosphere very nice - to sit outside. It was really nice to have drinks there. But the food was really average and overpriced. I ordered sole from their special menu and it was deep fried, came as average quality fish and chips. But much more expensive. Perhaps good for locals, if you know what you are ordering :)

Ate Sunday lunch here for the first time on 24th July . Wow what can we say the plates were enormous . Seven different veggies a generous helping of meat and a Yorkshire pud each . There was a choice of three different roasts I went for lamb the other half opting for beef. Fresh ingredients perfectly cooked well worth the £9.95 price .

Arrived for lunch with a couple of girlfriends and found it to be a pretty average pub - food was ok, but nothing special. Shown to the back room because we had dogs with us which felt very much like the back room of the pub with all the odd chairs and a dartboard. I totally get that you need a separate part of the bar for dogs etc..... but the main bar looked a lot nicer and recently refurbished. A work in progress but not a pub I would rush back to as a visitor with dogs.

Food and service was fine, though cutlery looked quite unclean and my can of water was bent quite badly😐

Didn’t open till 10am - then 5 staff took forever to make 2 drinks - also had a toastie but only one side was toasted ! My wife had a bacon bap with brown sauce , but given no sauce - had to go back, then found given no napkins! Had to go back again! Didn’t get a sorry or anything - then went to use toilet and it was filthy with tissues all over the floor- given they had just opened that is unforgivable- very poor - should’ve gone to Starbucks

Great staff, great room, comfy bed but the bell on the building opposite chimed every hour all night and kept us awake all night, this wasn't mentioned on the booking form, left here a bit annoyed and angry due to being so tired!
