We visited the Crown on Friday evening for a family celebration. It was a chilly evening and our reserved table was under a canopy (which thankfully wasn't needed as the rain just about held off). The staff, landlady and landlord were extremely friendly and welcoming, and the service and ordering process was efficient and attentive. The menu was slightly limited (completely understandable in the circumstances) but it was all well cooked and very tasty. The beer too was very good. It was great to see the Crown open and busy, and we had a lovely evening.Thank you and we'll be back again soon :-)

Third time here. Never fails to impress. The service, the food, the pub itself ... it’s just 10/10. Hidden away in Sydenham, this gem is amazing. The “little adults” menu is fab, with proper food being cooked from scratch for children and adults. And the roast dinner... my husband says it’s the BEST he has ever had. Worth travelling here. Yum.

Perfect location right opposite the church. We were 7 for lunch arriving at 12.30 we were not rushed taking our time over a pint of Rebellion or a Heineken zero alcohol for the drivers. Good choice of starters, some with a bit of a kick. No rush and we ambled into our main courses, such difficult decisions but 7 people ended up with 5 different choices. Fresh vegetables, hot plates, great taste, super value for money.Too full for desserts but tasty double espressos including s decaf option. We were last to leave at 3.20pm a good time was had by all.Chef came out to check we were happy, we will return. Sunday lunch looks a treat!!!Glen

Coming from outside the area, we came here purely based on previous reviews and so glad we did. It’s quite a small pub/restaurant, so would definitely recommend booking. Most of our party had the Sunday roast - there was a good choice of different meat to order from the menu and these were all cooked perfectly. We did manage to squeeze in a pudding which were equally just as good. We will definitely be back, if we’re in the area again.

We had an excellent evening at The Crown....for many reasons. We don’t know this area at all, and on the back of the reviews we decided to give The Crown a try. The food is lovely...we had garlic bread followed by steak and a mushroom stroganoff and a sticky toffee pudding. It was fresh, hot and tasty. Service was prompt, friendly. The space and environment was so nice..it was packed busy and there was such a nice friendly, lively atmosphere. Perhaps the thing that nailed it for us though, was the welcome. As soon as we walked in the door, we were welcome, relaxed and invited to join a proper English pub vibe. Congratulations to owners, service staff and chefs - we loved it!

The description of this place now says The Crown Inn is a traditional country pub set in the heart of a beautiful Oxfordshire village, and up to that point all is true. The Crown Inn is now under new management, and what a shame that is because this place used to be fantastic (see my previous reviews) but it's now under mis-management. I've seen it before where budding hopefuls give up their former lives for the idyllic country pub lifestyle, this is what it felt like to me. on that fateful night when I visited with a party of five the car crash we experienced was unlike no other.

We had a meal in the pub last night. Disappointed by whole experience. We should have been a party of 10 but only 9 of us arrived. Just as well as there wouldn't have been enough space at the table! Attention by waiting staff wasn't great. I didn't even have a menu and had to share one. Starters were all fine. Main was disappointing. Lumpy, hard mashed potato and a lot of juice on my plate. One of my friends had a stroganoff which was served in two silver dishes with no room to mix the rice with the stroganoff. Desserts were also disappointing. Cheesecake served in a glass which doesn't work because you end up with the hard crumb base. I won't be returning anytime soon.

The food here is Excellent. Mother and I came for Sunday lunch and it was brilliant. That said, I am sorry to say that the dining experience was not what we would wish. A child was allowed to scream through lungs of leather the whole time. The waitress, who looked Frazzled was apologetic and tried to calm things down. I pitied the poor people nearer the noise than us. It ruined a nice day. I have Asperger Syndrome and sensory overload issues. The high-pitched furious roar and scream of a spoiled brat/Little Emperor is simply too much for me to cope with. I do realize families need to eat. But they did Nothing to calm the child.

My friends all enjoyed their sandwiches, which were quite expensive but did come with fries and salad. I very much enjoyed my minute steak (with similar accompaniments) but it was minute in more than one sense, about two thrids maybe of what is normally served and so not great value. It didn't disappoint - the food we chose was well presented and very tasty - all the items on the plate blended just right and were really nicely balanced meals. For us - the size of the main course and sweets were exactly what we wanted - not too much or too little. The Pub itself has a nice friendly relaxed atmosphere and still retains its typical village ambience which isn't easy to find these days. We came here for a Star Wars night and discovered a wonderful place. A lovely cosy pub with great warmth and atmosphere. The team were exceptionally friendly and efficient even though the event had sold out. A big shout out to Pippa who looked after us so well. The Star Wars themed food was amazing. The thought, love and talent that went into creating each dish was superb. Will, the chef , introduced himself to all and gave an insight into the thought process behind the dishes created and ingredients involved. The passion really showed in the end result. The structured Star Wars Night, which was set up to encourage us all to bond, involved enjoying a share board platter, a main, a dessert and two drinks all for £29.99 and ended with a fun quiz. The event raised money for Assert - a great charity which helps families of those with Angelman Syndrome - making it an even more special and worthy evening. Please look Assert up if you'd like to find out more about this condition and what the charity does. They have a fab online store selling some great, fashionable, T-Shirts and other items. They are very nice, take a look. Now that we have discovered The Crown Inn we will certainly be going back again, Star Wars night or not!

Wonderful little country pub in the most beautiful setting. We arrived to a really friendly, warm welcome and spent the most relaxing afternoon in the beer garden. The food was delicious (the crispy brie bites, cauliflower purée & tempura cauli florets were to die for!) service attentive and atmosphere spot on. For my money this place is one of the best locally, as good as a couple of our favourites in Thame.

This welcoming inn has loads of character, pleasant staff and a good menu. We visited on a weekday at lunchtime and it was very quiet, but apparently the Senior Lunch on Thursdays is very popular. I chose shepherds pie with Cornish Yarg topping (cheese) which was delicious, with tasty chunks of lamb and shallots, not mince; then an amazing dessert that is a chocolate Star Wars creation - pricey, but raising money for charity and well worth it!

We were here for a friend's birthday lunch. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. You can get a reasonable Sunday roast at many places but this was something else. There were six in our party and between us we had the beef, lamb and pork roasts. All the comments were the same - how melt in the mouth the meat was and how superb the gravy was! Gravy can make or break a roast dinner and this gravy certainly made it! Vegetables were perfectly cooked and there was a cheeky little celeriac purée hiding underneath to add another dimension. Portions were very generous too. We then moved on to dessert - delicious! Even a gluten/dairy consideration for one of our party was not too much trouble. Thank you to all concerned for a wonderful experience and we are looking forward to returning to sample the evening menu!

I've been meaning to go the Crown for a while now, and I'm glad I finally made it there. I was surprised at the small menu however, you tend to find restaurants who offer a select choice of dishes quite often do them properly and to perfection. We started with the Camembert with garlic, it was amazing. I ordered the confit duck for mains, although not true "roast potatoes" the whole dish was delicious and filling. I finished off with sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel ice cream - incredible, light in texture and perfect with ice cream. A really lovely pub, excellent food and friendly staff. It was a little chilly next to the window, but the house red warmed me up. Will definitely go back

This is a lovely pub and it is good to see it back in full use. There is a reasonable menu and the food is above average as it always used to be . Service is also very good. The homemade chutney /relish should be marketed. There is a need to improve creature comforts like the seating, temperature and salt and pepper. The value is very good. It is a very old building which may be cool in the summer but the heating or insulation needs some work. Rome wasn't built in a day............... and we will be back.

We haven't visited The Crown for a long time, but heard it was open again, and the reviews were good, so we arranged to meet friends for lunch the day before New Year's Eve. The fire burning in the grate gave a cosy first impression, but sadly that warmth didn't continue. There weren't many people in the pub, so not many bodies to help warm the place up. I remember the place as being chilly and had hoped something had been done about it, but sadly not. I sat by a window with my back to a radiator, but never got properly warm all through lunch, and in the end my feet and legs were very cold indeed. The food was OK, but nobody raved about it. My venison casserole and savoy cabbage was tasty and plenty of it, but it was only warm, and soon cooled off further because of the general temperature. Also, it would look more appealing in a big bowl or on a plate, instead of being served in two separate pots on a board. On the plus side my husband said his cod was beautifully cooked and very good, and my chocolate and nut brownie with chocolate chip ice cream was delicious. The Crown deserves to be better, it's a nice village pub in a lovely location. Curtains at the windows would help keep the place warmer, and cushions on the seats wouldn't go amiss, and for goodness sake turn the heating thermostat up! It's the cold that would prevent us from returning, not the food.

I had lunch with a walking group after a long, muddy and tiring walk in the local countryside and it was great to come into the warm and welcoming pub and enjoy the comforting and delicious Butternut Squash Risotto. But looking round I would have been delighted to have been served the meals chosen by my companions, especially the gorgeous burger. The service was friendly and quick and I would have no hesitation in going back. Will and Pippa and their staff are doing a great job.

It's lovely to see the crown open again. We live in the village and we had a lovely family meal. Great food and ambience. It would have been nice to meet the landlord - not obvious who is running the place, there seemed to be no 'host'

Four of us met up to go to the pub quiz. What a terrific evening from start to finish.A great welcome from all of the Crown team. We played two rounds of the quiz which really did have fair questions to suit everybody. Then came along terrific sausages and delicious buttery mash and a picture quiz to do whilst eating. We played another two rounds and had dessert. This isn't included in the £10 but oh my word so worth paying the app. £5-6 for. The chocolate parcel lemon curd cheesecake and asstd ice creams were pure dessert Heaven. We then played the last two rounds and all too soon the evening came to an end. I cannot compliment the quiz teams taking part enough. It was competitive but played in such a fun atmosphere. The quiz started and finished to time.It is years since we have enjoyed an evening in a pub so much.It seems the Team of Pippa and Will along with their bar and waiting team have got the mix just right. Thank you. It was so worth the fifty minute journey. We will be back.

We had the day's special - Cottage pie which was delicious. Crumble for dessert - excellent! It's a bit of a tight squeeze if you have a table for two - I recommend going in groups of four to have more room. It's great that The Crown is open again after months of refurbishment. We will be happily returning.

After temporary closure for refurbishment and change of management, The Crown is Sydenham is open again and I'm happy to report has returned to its former glory. Pippa and Will, along with a cheerful and efficient staff, offer mouthwatering food in stylish and comfortable surroundings. The wine, beer and drinks selection is very good (we've found a Chilean white we are quite partial to), and the reasonably priced menu offers just enough choice for everyone in our party to be quite happy with their meal. We've had two dinners and a lunch and each time have been pleasantly impressed. Definitely a cut above the usual gastropub fare.
