We enjoyed a delightful Easter Sunday roast, where every aspect from the food to the atmosphere and service was impeccable. We opted for three of the available meats (Pork Belly, Beef and Lamb), each dish was deliciously prepared and accompanied by a generous Yorkshire Pudding, veg, mashed potatoes and roast potatoes that were exceptionally tasty! Our drink choices included Cruzcampo beer, a glass of house red wine, and a double raspberry vodka with lemonade, all of which were reasonably priced. The staff were attentive and accommodating, creating a lovely atmosphere that was lively yet not overpowering, allowing for comfortable conversation. Overall, it was a wonderful Easter Sunday lunch experience and we look forward to returning. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am here to amend my last review - that was 5 years ago - to say that since new management and refurbishment, this pub has been an absolute gem and joy to come in and have our lovely, well-kept pint of local ale - Harvey's. The food has been wonderful, despite being reopened just over a month ago: we had the moussaka and the steak baguette; simply gorgeous throughout. We are DEFINITELY looking forward to a pint in the beautiful British sunshine in the lovely back garden at the doorsteps of the most beautiful park in Britain: Preston Park. If you need a place to put your feet up after a nice stroll in the park, this is the place to be. Thank you!

Food is fantastic, it’s always been good but they have recently had a new chef and it’s now excellent. The Sunday roasts are the best in Brighton in my opinion. Would highly recommend for meat and veggie/vegan options

Had the most beautifully cooked prawn curry and super tasty accompaniments. Good value for money and will definitely be back. Pop in and try the menu, you wont regret it x

Really nice spacious beer garden with great service

Is a lovely pub with a nice garden and friendly helpful staff. There were loads of kids there (40th bday) and plenty of space for them to run around. It was perfect for our 40th gathering. Amazing walls of flowers too. Gave me lots of ideas...

Great food and fantastic attentive service by Kirkby. They really have got a winning formula here. If I had to come up with a slight minor it would be that the Mother’s Day meal was slightly smaller than the regular Sunday Lunch.

A friend and I had sunday lunch here yesterday , we had the roast lamb and it was gorgeous , great quality food ; its so hard to find somewhere that does a good roast but I have now ! To cap it all , the apple and cinnamon crumble was superb . Big thank you to Izzy who looked after us so well . I cannot recommend this place enough , a very warm welcoming environment and great food .

A lovely Sunday roast. And it was hot! And they brought extra gravy. Too often I've eaten luke warm food in pubs, but this was fresh and hot. There were 5 of us and all enjoyed their food. Will be back.

Had an amazing Sunday roast here with friends. Our waitress Fiona was exceptional, attentive and professional and made us feel so welcome.. And nothing was too much to ask of her.. Probably one of the best Roast Lamb I ever had in the brighton area. Good size portion and everything cooked well. No over complicated flavours !! Just good honest Pub Food...to match a very good wine offer and top service.

Lovely pub! First time there and will defo go there again. Great, attentive and friendly service from Kirkby. Really nice newly refurbished dining area. Noticed they have a lovely new beer garden at back. The lamb Sunday roast was excellent! The roast carrot, sweede mash, succulent lamb, and delicious yorkies are a must. We came late afternoon, family with2 kids. The food tasty and fresh. Menu card with several delicious choices and the card it self includes number of relevant information like calories. Staff fast and informative and pricing reasonable. The places interior cosy but a little paint and refreshing would come in handy. We passed the evening before but place to busy and no table available.

Tucked just off the sea front, this place should be great. Built on a number of floors and with a roof top garden. But I can only comment as found. Tired people making the place look dull. Disinterested staff. What a shame. Feel sure it is good on the right day!

The drinks were great, and the service we couldn't fault. However the Jukebox element was lacking a little, as we picked a couple of songs - a variety of different artists/genres but only heard 1 of our choices in the whole time we were there, but from another group, we had about 7 ABBA songs. Now, I do love a bit of ABBA but I think the experience would be better if there was a limit to how many times an artist can be used. It seemed that the table next to us, of about 6 people got all their choices, and felt like there was no actual 'Shuffle' function on the system. As slots were timed, we couldn't just choose to stay longer to hear our choices. We also found the music, which was supposed to be the big attraction, was at a really low level, and we couldn't hear them well over the general bar noises. In the end, our visit ended up a bit disappointing. I've visited pubs that have the 'jukebox from your phone' function just as an added extra who've managed it better.

Amazing vegan roast dinner. The wellington was delicious and perfect roasted vegetables! Would highly recommend and will def be back!!

Was really looking forward to our Sunday booking with you. However in the whole 1 hour and 40 minutes we were there we only had one drink and our second drinks order that we purposefully pre ordered 15 mins before our roasts came (as we learnt from the first order it would take at least 15-20 mins) still didn’t turn up half an hour later. No one should have to wait up to an hour and 40 mins and chase up orders. We can appreciate it was busy, but surrounding tables were all saying the same thing and were left empty handed. Ended up getting a refund for our drinks that never turned up that we paid for on the app, and arranged to go to the pub down the road.

Really wanted our visit to be fun but spent most of our visit trying to chase up orders. One of the waiting team was on the ball but aside from that 3 of our orders went missing in action. As shame as we live nearby but we'll be most likely looking for a venue more on the ball.

We ordered the pork and beef Sunday roast takeaway today and cannot rave enough about how lovely it was. There is so much food and cooked to a high standard. I highly recommend that you try their food cooked by the owner Hugo. I am looking forward to lockdown lifting so that we can eat in the restaurant.

Just had Sunday lunch and i would thoroughly recommend and i will definitely return, Hugo the owner/ Chef should be incredibly proud of the most delicious food. I had the Veggie which was home made for sure and my friend had the pork belly, which looked incredible. Well done Hugo and Staff i will definitely use your pub again. 5 stars Kind regards Peter.

Went here for Sunday lunch, the food was amazing, quick to come out and very generous servings! Both Sally and Kelsey were lovely, helpful and very happy.Really good vibe and have been back for a few more Sunday dinners and will go back for many more!

We come here befor and the staff where amazing, there was a girl who looked after us Mia and the manager Adam was amazin. Pretty disappointed to see they don’t work there anymore. The food was ok but could have been better but the whole place lacked a character n personality. Probs won’t bd back. Plenty of other places to go for better service.

I ate here on a Wednesday night, staying locally for work, and the food was fantastic.Good sized portions, and nothing too fancy, just good value for money fare. The pub was very quite when I ate here, but the service was excellent, and the atmosphere seemed jolly even with only a handful of people in there.

Vergonzoso saludo del miserable caballeros del personal del bar considerando la ubicación de este pub, el servicio con una mueca es como los describiría. Todo el lugar parece que podría funcionar con una buena limpieza. Los baños de damas eran horribles y el horrible olor que provenía de ellos irradiaba al pub, tuvimos que cambiar de asiento como algo tan malo. Decoración oscura.

Visité para el almuerzo del domingo a las 5 p. metro. Cuando reservé me aseguraron que no sería demasiado tarde para comer. Sin embargo, nuestras comidas estaban realmente secas y sin duda sabían como si hubieran estado sentadas por mucho tiempo. La carne estaba seca y sin sabor, al igual que las papas y Yorkshire. Una porción muy pequeña de vegetales que nos pareció el resultado de comer "tarde" y la mayoría de las verduras se habían ido. En el tablero se mostraban desiertos que no estaban disponibles e incluso una opción de helado se había agotado. Una visita decepcionante a lo que es mi pub local. No volveré, no fue un asado barato y por el dinero que pagamos, hemos comido mucho mejor en otros lugares. Simplemente muy decepcionante y la comida no se parecía en nada a la de la foto.

I visited for a light late lunch with my friend, who uses a wheelchair, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. I had called beforehand and when we arrived the barman seemed genuinely pleased to see us. He helped us to a good spot in the corner of the garden and ensured we had shade under a large umbrella.The Doom Bar beer was good, the food was delicious (chicken nachos for my friend and vegetable tempura for me), and the other clients were friendly and helpful.Bar staff were attentive and approachable throughout.We will definitely return.

So, where to begin?! Laura & I live very close to the Crown & Anchor & it’s our local. In the past few months the pub has had a change of management and staff. The C&A; have a great team and are always attentive and the service they provide is first class.

Had the most unreal roast dinner, best I’ve had since time began, even Dougie & Dave, my 4month old Bassets had a meal courtesy of the Management, Bone Idol is an all natural delicious way for your dogs to eat, my boys loved it...

We recently visited here for lunch. Birthday meal plus we had some issues re access and seating for a big wheelchair. I set out what we needed when I booked and it was arranged perfectly. It can be really hard to go out and relax when you have a lot to think about regarding disability but the lovely staff made it all so easy. What I had asked for was communicated to the staff on the day perfectly and the key thing is we were made to feel welcome and genuinely cared for and looked after and not 'in the way' as has been previous experience in other places. I know this sounds a bit like a positive off a negative, but even without that, the service and food alone made for a really enjoyable lunch. Thanks, guys, for allowing a frazzled person to stress less and enjoy a meal with her family. We will be back! xxxx

Myself and my family visited this pub for the first time today and will definitely be visiting again! The bartender was friendly,funny and full of his Irish charm. The service he provided was ‘top’ in fact the best service I’ve received in any bar! What a fabulous hidden gem. Loved it!

We had the pleasure of popping in for drinks and a Sunday roast on a Sunday afternoon. Really welcoming team, amazing food and a surprisingly big, sun trap of a pub garden which was great. We’ll be back!

After a really nightmarish, soul breaking journey, we ended up seeking refuge in this pub. Would like to say a massive thank you to the manager Adam you were super and so lovely and genuinely caring. The lovely Tiga, when we first walked in your smile was such a hugh blessing. Your hospitality was outstanding words could not describe. We had some food which was cooked well and presented even more lovely. A really nice family environment with a great outside area, not just for smoking but for families or just simply relaxing. I can imagine the music nights Being a fabulous night out but unfortunately we didn’t stay that late to experience it. There was a few people with their dogs so we saw that they were very dog friendly. If you’re you looking for that homeliness without being at home and that extra special something, then this is the place for you. Will definitely be stopping by next time we’re in the area. Thank you so much it was appreciated more than you know.

Ridiculously loud music inside, quite pleasant garden despite being alongside a street. Service pleasant enough, but goodness, the food was average. There were few choices for anyone trying to avoid saturated fats. I opened for a "chicken burger", which turned out to be a lump of chicken breast in a bun. Probably better for me than a burger, but dead boring. The chips were nice, though.

This is a real hidden gem. The staff are super freidnly and helpful and the pub is much larger than it looks from the street. the garden is lovely and completely unexpected. I can't reccomend enough

I went for sunday lunch with my husband a d daughter. The food was below average. The chicken was over cooked and dry as was the pork loin. The vegs were just tasteless.

This has been our local for about 2 years. The garden is amazing and a great sun trap in the summer but don't worry plenty of shade if needed. Sometimes the pub used to lack a bit of atmosphere and I think the big dining tables may contribute to this. Some cosy sofas for couples would be nice. We recently visited after a period of time away to be met by the lovely Adam who has recently become manager. His hospitality was second to none and he spent time chatting to us and making sure our needs were met. The roast dinner was amazing. One small observation was that the meat portions could be a little bigger (not the chicken that was huge). The atmosphere was great, music at the right level and a very warm ambiance. Keep up the good work Adam and staff it the best it's been over the past 2 years. Well done!!

Tengo un buen apetito y me impresionó enormemente. La comida era de excelente calidad y estaba recién preparada. ¡Nunca podría ser descrito como "pub grub"! El servicio fue muy bueno y el nuevo gerente fue amable y encantador. No usamos el jardín, pero esperamos hacerlo otra vez.

Had a great evening for a friends birthday party at this venue. We could not have had better service by Andy and his staff. Friendly, helpful and welcoming. We most definitely will be going back. It also has great history.

Great selection of drinks (beers, spirits and wines). Friendly staff and a spacious pub. Food was really good too, though maybe marginally overpriced. Kid friendly, which is fine if you have kids, but otherwise pick your time....

Fiesta de 6 para el almuerzo. Los únicos otros clientes parecían ser dos comensales solteros. Tardamos casi una hora en conseguir nuestra comida con la excusa de que muchas órdenes llegaron juntas. Incluso entonces, se necesitaron 10 minutos más para que todos los pedidos se entregaran en la mesa, desde el primero hasta el último. Pescado y patatas fritas estaba empapado y tibio. Me sentí avergonzado porque estaba comprando el almuerzo para mis colegas en reconocimiento de un trabajo bien hecho.

We were house hunting when we found this treasure. Lovely all round, especially the SUNDAY ROAST BEEF AND YORKSHIRE PUD! Highly recommended!

We have been going here off and on for a few years and while the food has been ok at least the staff offered good customer service. We prebooked for a friends get together plus one of our group had a stressful day at the hospital so was meant to chill her out.

I went to a party here unfortunately the food took more than two hours and it was terrible, the tables were crushed and my table was behind a wall the kitchen was totally overwhelmed.

Had my partners birthday party here on Saturday night and was delighted.the venue for a party was fantastic as was the food! The management and staff were attentive,friendly and helpful making the night just perfect for us.

This pub used to be a great place to eat but sadly - as it's a lovely put to have a pint in - the food has gone really downhill. Too few options for vegetarians & vegans with those on offer cooked poorly (I'm sorry to say, I actually had the worst risotto of my life here). My family and I used to eat here regularly but even the meat-eaters among us are giving it a miss now, after eating tough roast beef one time too many or having food arriving cold or at different times. Having worked in restaurants for many years and knowing that constructive feedback provides an opportunity to offer a better customer experience, I offered some to the manager, but sadly it resulted in my being asked to find somewhere else to drink!

Had a great meal here last month with my partner.possibly the best halloumi burger I’ve had! We left satisfied with both the food and the service.will be going back.

El pub se encuentra en un gran lugar justo al lado del parque Preston y el camarero de pelo de jengibre nos sirvió a mí ya mis amigos con delicadeza mientras se abría camino por el restaurante. Altamente recomendado.

Escuché que el Crown & Anchor organiza increíbles cenas de cabaret. Un grupo de nosotros reservamos a 30 por persona. Por ese precio esperaba una comida de mala calidad pero un entretenimiento decente. Estaba equivocado ! La comida era deliciosa. Por el bien de los 30 me impresionó mucho. El pub estaba muy ocupado y claramente el Cabaret era un vendedor caliente para los locales. Incluso con una participación tan grande, el cambio en la llegada de nuestros alimentos fue más que razonable, y cada curso impresionó.

Nos detuvimos en la corona en la salida de Brighton.

Vivo al otro lado de Brighton y viajo a este lugar. Gran ambiente, el personal muy amable y atento no puede hacer más por ti. La comida es fabulosa cada vez. There is a pleasant astro turf area outside. However the is the most outstanding feature of the Crown and Anchor.

We visit here every year after we have performed in the Brighton Pride Parade … it's a lovely, spacious pub and does get very busy post Pride … the food is good but they seem to get a bit over swamped and have to stop taking orders which is fair enough with the crowd ... a few years ago they used to do a BBQ in the beer garden at the back which was a much better idea and more convenient

A booking was made two months ago for 12 noon today for a large group. The organiser had asked for a menu to be emailed after being told that the menu online is not the current one. The menu finally arrived after several phone calls last night so could not be sent to the group members. One member with dietary issues pre ordered a 'plain salad, greens, tomato, cucumber and carrot, no cheese or nuts'. On arrival we were seated in the bar area at 3 tables even though the back room, which was quieter, was free. Only one server was on duty, the manager stayed behind the bar or was on the phone. Our orders were taken and 5 minutes later we were told that there was only one portion left of the prawn and avocado sandwich which meant that 5 of us had to choose something else. This was not easy as the menu is more suitable for a dinner, had only one very pretentious salad and no soup. Not vegan friendly as the roast veg. sandwich contained cheese. Our table received the food after a wait of over an hour. When I asked the manager why the service was so slow she said that there was only one in the kitchen and it was his first day. I told her that knowing this she should have called and cancelled our booking as they were obviously unable to cope. The pre ordered salad was 'forgotten' and when it eventually arrived it was mixed greens with a dressing, slightly cooked broccoli and beans, olives and NUTS! Fortunately I found them prior to the order being eaten. The steak in the sandwich was tough and fatty and despite being asked to leave the mustard off the bread it was there. The waiter did his best under very trying conditions, if I were him I would leave the job tonight. The manager accepted no responsibility for the poor service and mediocre food. As previous reviewers have said the menu is limited and the quality poor and it is expensive. There are not many places in this part of Brighton to eat but I would avoid this one.

We had to boycott our luncheon trip into Brighton as the festival traffic was heavy - on the way out we passed this out with the sign ‘Preston Eatery’, sounded good for a snack.

We booked a table for ten for 12.30, explaining we needed to be finished by 2. It took a long time to take our orders for drinks, and then food. Even tho the pub was practically empty apart from us, the food then took almost an hour to come, by which time it was after 2, and buses and trains were missed. When we mentioned that perhaps a discount might be offered, we were told that as the food didn't take longer than an hour to come, we were not 'entitled' to a discount. Maybe if you had taken the order sooner?? Not to mention the off-hand apologies for the delay.

Staff seem friendly enough and the beer is decent but the food, OMG it's so overpriced.

Though the radiators were on (I checked) the room was cold! With snow outside it wasn't surprising to see half the people with coats, scarves etc still on ... whatever happened to the WARM welcome that pubs like to boast! Service was generally poor & food decidedly average! Not recommended.

Most of the menu was unavailable. Ordered from what little was available. Got a huge plate of oven chips and little meat. It was awful. Service was dreadful. Pub was huge but virtually empty so no atmosphere. Just a dreadful experience.

Nice friendly atmosphere and on a Tuesday a good quiz run by the manager Stan. Always a good laugh. Food is good with a good variety. Nice selection of drinks especially the Gins. Has a good outside area at the back, very nice in sunny weather.
