Fantastic food and good value - we went on a Tuesday night so got 3 courses for £33. I had the chicken liver pate, one of the best I've ever had, and my husband had warm goats cheese salad, which was beautiful. We both had duck, cooked perfectly. Finally, an excellent creme brulee for dessert. Its reputation is well deserved, we will definitely be back.

The food here is incredible. We had the three-course set menu on Saturday night. It was very busy but service was really quick and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

EXCEPTIONAL FOOD Can't believe we waited this long to try this gem in Macclesfield. Absolutely exceptional food, the menu changes frequently which keeps it interesting. You can tell a huge amount of effort has gone into designing every course, to be tasty, and incredible combination of flavours whilst beautifully constructed. Small venue with great ambiance and lovely staff.

Went there on Sunday 10th March for Mother’s Day lunch. What a little gem of a restaurant. Not usually open on a Sunday, so we were delighted to get a table. Delicious food, beautifully presented. Will definitely go again.

Lovely decor inside. Cosy and continental style cafe feel to it. Waiter was very attentive and as there was a delay with our mains we were offered some free canapés as a gesture which I thought showed excellent customer service. My steak was cooked to perfection and I could not fault the food. The mushroom soup for starter was delicious. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert with ice cream and it was beautifully presented and delicious also. We complimented the meal and the Chef came out personally to speak to us which again I thought was nice. My only suggestion would be slightly bigger portion sizes, but it was still a very decent sized meal and not too small like some fine dining experiences. Will definitely be going back to try the Thai curry which some guests say next to us had and recommended. Thanks for a great dining experience.

This place is really the most hidden gem I have ever been to , Ahmed the server also the waiter and the owner really are a cut above the rest . The service was like being in a Michelin star restaurant in the centre of Mayfair I am honestly blown away the steak was literally something cut to perfection for a restaurant of this size to have reviews so insane is hard to believe but OMG!!!! Try this place you will be flabbergasted Thank you for squeezing me in tonight for a half 7 slot at so short notice 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

They've just reopened for lunchtimes. We used to go there all the time. So we went for lunch on Saturday. Delicious home cooked food at good prices served by lovely people.

I'm so so happy they decided to reopen for lunch and i was even happier when i saw they hadn't altered the menu too much either, back are my favourite dishes that I've missed so much these past years! Everything was so tasty and amazing value, they could be charging much more for the quality of their ingredients, The soup is also a game changer and has to be ordered on every visit. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Can't wait to visit again. 10/10.

Extemely busy on the night we visited, however Fantastic as usual. The best Aberdeen Angus fillet steak in the Macclesfield area cooked to perfection. The food is always consistently excellent and we would definitely recommend to anybody.

Friendly and helpful staff, very well presented and cooked dishes. The scallops were great and the cod loin really tasty. Very good value considering the quality of the dishes.

Quaint place, was seated beside a staircase that led down to toilet so constant foot traffic passing us in a narrow setting. The food was ok, small portions and was left feeling slightly hungry..i would say style over substance with this place.. food ok but not great.

I live 50 minutes drive from this restaurant, but insist on visiting once a month. The food is incredible. It’s like art for your taste buds. It’s not just cooking, it’s creative genius at work. I imagine the chef or chefs trying out different combinations of flavours until each dish is perfected. There’s no way this menu is just thrown together like it is in other restaurants, there is thought behind this and a very high level of skill, not to mention imagination. The staff work so hard, too.There’s only one problem, eating here ruins eating in all other restaurants.

Wonderful meal, delicious amuse bouche, followed by fantastic scallops, followed melt in your mouth fillet steak with all the trimmings. Great service. Highly recommended.

An unpretentious venue where we were made to feel very welcome. Upon entering we were pleasantly surprised to see how busy the restaurant was and its welcoming ambience. Our meal was reasonably priced but the food and combinations of flavour were outstanding. From the scallops with black pudding fritters to the duck breast with rhubarb, blackberries and blackcurrant sauce, we were wowed with the presentation and quality of the cooking. The carrot purée with star anise was stunning. Determined not to have a dessert, we succumbed to the chocoholics delight with elderflower ice cream and the crepe brûlée with a caramelised pear slice with pistachio ice cream. Even the coffee was good. We could not fault our meals and having enjoyed visiting a Michelin starred restaurant in France, felt that this meal was as good as anything we have ever eaten. The scallop dish was one of a kind and memorable for all the right reasons. Our meal began with a trio of amuse bouche which was anticipatory of the meal to come.

Amazing restaurant, so pleased they have been able to reopen. Food was top notch as ever with amazing flavour combinations and innovative appetisers. We really appreciate the vegetarian menu as well as the quality choices on the main menu. Also felt very covid-secure. We had a lovely evening, they have never let us down yet in over 10 years of visits!

Try as I might I can never find fault with either the food or the service. Would definitely recommend.

I wrote a review a few years ago saying the chef clearly knew how to cook but was unadventurous and the menu tired. It was still a 4* review because the food was great.We re-visited tonight because another venue was full but I’m so glad we did.An inventive and interesting menu with Christmas themes and flavours. My smoked cod scotch egg starter with pea and minted greens was both different and sublime. Loved the whole meal and felt compelled to write again with 5*.

We visited on a cold wet Saturday evening the (Halloween) weekend before lockdown 2. I had read the good reviews on TA so we went out of our way to book it as we were staying locally.We pre-booked a week in advance of our visit and it must have been very busy as we could not have the time we initially wanted. I suppose that is the sign of a good restaurant. We arrived on time and there was not much room in the entrance for social distancing when another couple also arrived just behind us. We couldn’t see any hand sanitiser or track & trace at that point.We were shown to our table and given menus. Some other diners left and lo and behold the hand sanitiser and track & trace bar code appeared from behind their coats! If I am honest I felt that the restaurant was a bit too busy to be Covid secure. There were Perspex screens between some tables however but still not enough room in my opinion.We ordered our drinks and chose our meals. 2 courses for £25 or 3 courses for £30. A few items on the menu had surcharges. We were brought our drinks and complimentary tasters which were delicious. We decided to have 2 courses. My husband ordered the sirloin steak which had a supplement of £6 and I had sea bass. Both were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our mains. We both chose the cheeseboard for afters which had a supplement too.We very much enjoyed our meals, the food was fantastic. The total bill with drinks was £70 so average price we felt. The staff were pleasant and friendly but I was a bit relieved to get outside into the fresh air.

Thanks to the wonderful Chestergate Bistro for a delicious, pre-lockdown 2, meal last night. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere perfect (with all the necessary Covid precautions rigorously in place too). We have booked already for a post lockdown visit. The best restaurant in the area by far.

Have been to the bistro over many years . Usually for lunch or early dinner with the girls . And never miss there Christmas menu , it's amazing. But all the food is amazing . Should be a 5 star restaurant. It's the best in macclesfield and surrounding area .
