I received a text request, the day before the booking, to confirm our attendance. Which I did. When we arrived, the next day, after 35minutes driving, we were told at the bar that no food was available. No explanation was given. Anyone who still has a booking should call them on the morning of their visit to confirm that food is available. Why they didn't call me that morning with whatever excuse they'd thought up I don't know? It would have saved us time and fuel. We won't visit again.

Visited Basildon Park but found the National Trust tea room closed (see separate review) so headed off for the nearest village for a pub lunch. Friendly staff. I had the curry and pint “Wednesday deal”. Beer well served and tasty curry; my only criticism is that as a Madras, I would expect it to be more spicy but that is personal preference. If you like eating out there is a good garden but we chose an inside table. At less than £15 per head for drink and food, it’s good value.

I visited this old pub yesterday with a friend and we ordered lunch ,when my meal eventually came I was very disappointed, my sirloin steak was disgusting and rock hard and exceedingly stringy and full of gristle - worst food I’ve ever had in a pub restaurant, my friends meal was equally repulsive and we both had a mouthful of the food and then left it ,I asked for the bill - paid and left - the whole place is second rate and I will never visit this place again .

We visited yesterday evening, as a group of friends on a boating break. We received a warm and friendly welcome. The menu was just what we were looking for. Nothing too fancy (aka overly expensive) - but an absolutely superb range. Right through from steaks and a mixed grill (even a ‘mega mixed grill’) through to ‘posh’ kebabs served on flatbread. A very good range of starters and desserts too. The great service continued, and quality beers flowed very nicely. Lovely, north midlands accents from a few members of staff add to the charm! Genuine warm hearted, kind and caring - with a wicked sense of humour should you wish to go down that route. The prices are amazing too in such a picturesque location in West Berkshire. The manager described it as bringing a slice of fair north midlands prices down to the south. We would return in a heartbeat. A great find.

We all really enjoyed our food this evening - the menu offered a good level of choice without being excessive and mass produced. The pie was lovely and homemade, with plenty of gravy served on the side. The staff were brilliant. A local pub that is really worth supporting. Thanks - we will be back!

We popped into The Bull on a Tuesday afternoon after a long walk looking for some quick food, both the chap behind the bar and the chef were so welcoming and friendly. They talked through the vegetarian options for us (which we really appreciated) and decided on the buffalo cauliflower which was gorgeous, a cheese and potato pie and a veggie burger. All the food was great. The guys are fairly new to running the pub, I believe, and were professional and kind to us and other customers - you deserve to do well, thank you.

My wife and I have been going in this pub for many years but shan't be going again. We went in for lunch yesterday and were shown a table but that was where the service ended. We sat for 15 minutes before a young man took our drinks order and gave us menus. We noticed that the party at the next table had no food or drinks as we sat for another 15 minutes. Staff walked past but avoided looking at us and the drinks never came. The other party got up and walked out and after a minute or two we followed them. It's very sad because this has been a great pub over the years. These people should try their hand at something other than running a pub.

Popped in on the off chance for some food on a Monday as everywhere was closed so tried the bull and thought it wouldn’t be the best seeing the last few reviews, but we went with an open mind , the pub does look a little out of date but I thought it gave it character, is quite. Dated but it is clean , I had the fish and chips with mushy peas the batter was really quite nice and the chips were crunchy, my husband had a mixed grill and said everything thing was good, and he’s reasonably hard to please, the staff were polite and pleasant and the service was good for pubs standard, we were offered pudding but were to full to have any, we were not expecting the best but was very happy with what we got, I’d encourage you try it we enjoyed ourselves

A truly awful experience. The dining room was deserted but my friend and I were placed at probably the worst table in the room. We moved. The menus were covered in food and the one I had was stuck together with food. We both ordered scampi and chips, which eventually proved to be totally underwhelming - a large quantity of greasy chips garnished with about 6 pieces of scampi and some very hard peas. We declined our normal dessert. This is, unfortunately the end of a long association with the Bull at Streatley, which goes back several years. We won't be returning and neither too will the other couple in the dining room who were equally disgusted.

We booked a table for 3pm on Mothering Sunday. 9 people (two families/mums). We booked online the day before. It was confirmed and we also phoned to check they had the booking. When we arrived it was chaos. They said that there had been some bookings errors and they didn't have space. The waiter looked stressed and said he would see what he could do. The people arriving behind us were told the same thing. We were left stood for 20 mins...they clearly hoped we would just go away and avoided eye contact on passing us. We made a call to The Miller down the road and thankfully they had a table. We walked out. The Miller was delightful. We met another table who had defected there from The Bull. We all realized we had dodged a bullet. The Bull set menu was pricy, not advertised up front and looked unappetizing. Big thanks to The Miller at Mansfield for rescuing our Mother's Day special outing and giving delicious food and great service. And thanks for nothing The Bull!!!!!

Service there was no attempt to serve us after seating is in the designated restaurant area and when our order was eventually taken it was disorganised and the waiter was visibly quite confused despite the order being 3 mains and a side. The atmosphere of the pub was lacking and felt unwelcoming and the staff themselves were unfriendly and some border line rude. When the food came out it was bland however that being said prices were very reasonable. Finally staff made it difficult to pay and were lacking in training and product knowledge. Some even struggled to work the computer system. Despite having a VALID discount staff were confused on how to use it so simply told me they wouldn’t take it. Ultimately I was very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend it!

Where do I start, this was by far one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had!! We booked a table for 6 people for a mothers day lunch, we arrived and were not aware that it was a set menu at £35 per head for adults and £10 for kids, this was not advertised anywhere on their website when booking and to say the set menu left very little choice with only 3 options on each starter, main and pudding. The table was clearly marked for 6 people but only set ready for 5 people, things were not looking great! We thought well we're here now so will stay. Ordered some drinks including a bottle of rose wine, which was room temp and not cold in the slightest, asked for a cold one to be told this was the last one they had available, asked 3 times for some ice which eventually came. Got out starters, most of us had a prawn cocktail...I say prawns but there was about 4 in the dish and half of us had half toasted bread the others just bread. We then waited for an hour for our main (roast dinners) and nothing came, we asked the waiter who said he would go check with the kitchen, followed by another waiter than asking if we were ready for our pudding WHAT...to which I said we haven't even had our main course yet!!! We complained and said we wanted a big discount off the bill, especially as it was £35 per head. Another table of 2 next to us then got their main before us and soon a member of staff came out of the kitchen to talk to us explaining that she would be plating ours soon and would offer us a free round of drinks!!! Or we could pay for what we had already had (drinks & starters) and go, saying we had had around £50/60 worth of food so far. We complained again and said it was not good enough. If you know your doing 110 covers for the day and offering a reduced menu then you should be well prepped for service. I would also like to add the pub was not even that busy at this point, we were one of the first tables in. We said no we don't want the mains or anything else and won't be paying for what we have had after 2 hours sitting there hungry and annoyed, so got up and left! Absolutely shocking service and totally ruined mine and my mother in laws Mothers Day!

As it was mother's day and our wedding anniversary, I booked the Bull for lunch having seen some good reviews on trip adviser. However, every aspect of the experience was bad. The restaurant was busy and the staff was struggling to cope. The menu was a set 3 courses, and we didn't have to wait too long for the starter. I had pate, which was OK (though not home made). My wife had a prawn cocktail, which comprised of 4 prawns, and a lot of sauce on some soggy lettuce. We then waited almost an hour for our main course, which when it arrived was cold. The roast potatoes weren't roasted, and apart from the carrots, the vegetables were overcooked and soggy. The Yorkshire puddings were also soggy and the gravy was congealed over the meat. After a couple of mouthfuls neither of us could eat any more. Most of the food was left on the plate. fThe waiter was somewhat embarrassed and apologised, but did not offer us fresh food or something else from their al a carte menu. We decided we wouldn't bother with the sweet, which was included in the £35 per head cost. (A table alongside us with six guests decided to leave also after an hour, as they had not received their meals). We were given a reduced bill amounting to £48. This covered the two starters (one being the four prawns), a glass of wine and the two or three mouthfuls of the main course. Another thing we observed, rather than clearing the tables, the waiters were wiping cutlery with servlets that were left on the table and putting them back on the tables. they wouldn't have known if these had been used or handled at all. I'm sure this doesn't comply with health and safety regulations.

After a long and muddy walk around the surrounding hills, myself and four fellow walkers decided to have a pub lunch before heading our separate ways. On Sunday it's roast only but noticed the kitchen was very kindly adapting for the younger generation if they were less keen on that option. The choice was lamb shanks, beef or turkey. One of our party is a non meat eater and again they were happy to adapt, adding salmon to the roast instead of meat. We all had lamb shanks and it was delicious. Generous dinner portion but not ridiculous, beautiful gravy with mint in it and the lamb fell off the bone. We were so stuffed that we couldn't manage a dessert! They were clearly busy but the service was always with a smile and the landlord very accomodating. Ladies toilet had steps but I noted in the dining room there was a disabled toilet with flat access.

The very small potatoes were hardly warm and mine had been precooked and then left and was completely cold on arrival to me, for £8 it was terrible meal. For starters we ordered a portion of Brie dippers and a tomato soup. The Brie dippers were apparently really nice! The soup was fine but appeared to be just tinned tomato soup rather than homemade, luckily I like tinned tomato soup! For mains we ordered the ultimate burger and a cheddar, leak and potato pie. The burger was delicious, couldn’t fault it! My wife enjoyed the pie but would have preferred the gravy on the side in a little jug (not everybody likes it poured all over their lunch)! For dessert we ordered 2x praline chocolate tarts, these were also delicious! The service was really friendly and the pricing reasonable! We will definitely return.

Arrived in garden due to covid so only could drink in garden which was fine.Got to podium to sign in and spoken down to like a naughty child by a twenty something server.Couldn't believe the way we were spoken to being paying customers. What has happened to people in this country???As soon as this kid spoke to me this way we all turned around and left and went to a pub elsewhere that treated us like proper customers. Most rude arrogant person I have met for s long time. One of my party actually nearly punched him in the mouth because he was so rude and patronising.Never again!!!Sort your staff out and have them treat people who are going to spend money in your establishment respectfully.Went to the crown and horns at East Ilsley for a family meal and was treated properly there and gave them nearly 200 pounds that the bull would have got but didn't because of this staff member.Won't ever be visiting here again.

Great to see good old fashioned service with a smile and well cooked meal without any fuss or wait.We booked an outside table due to restrictions and although well covered , it was a little windy - without prompting we were offered table 1 , which is a little Guinness Cabin with seating for 4 and a heater! Brilliant, as my elderly mother was feeling the cold . Thanks again to the staff and if you want to keep warm - book table 1 !!

Just visited for the first time since it reopened post-lockdown. Great experience, as ever. It’s just a friendly local pub with a really nice beer garden (with an historic yew tree!) No gastropub food with gastropub prices - it does the basics and does them well at a good price.Very well set up for outdoor dining - a big marquee, open at each end, for when it rains, and staff doing all the right things. We just need the weather to warm up a bit now!

I was pleasantly surprised that there was a separate veggie/vegan menu though not sure if that is available every day. The food was really good and there was plenty of choice. All the staff were really good and it was very good value.

The Bull has long been a favourite pub in Streatley and now like others needs to operate within the Covid restrictions. They have this well planned with a good ordeting procedure and making best use of their large garden and terrace. The menu has been restticted because they explained their kitchen is small so they can only have very limited numbers of people in there. However the menu does have a fair selection of food and is very good value for money especially the sirloin steaks. A great place to spend a summer lunchtime or evening.

As a local we've been several times since the pub reopened. Great efforts have been made to make visiting the pub as safe as possible, with a one-way system, track and trace QR code, and hand-sanitiser on the way in. The menu is limited, which is to be expected in the current circumstances, but should still have something for everybody, and is excellent value, even without the "eat out to help out" discount. I'm also delighted to be able to pop in at the end of a dog walk again for a swift pint, ideally in their large beer garden.

service atrocious, they forget to serve drinks ordered until they are reminded 15 minutes later which was 2 minutes before the food order came out. Didn't bother asking is we wanted a dessert and had to wair almost an hour after the dinner plates were taken and after we requested the bill. No apologies will never go to back there again

My Husband and I have visited here on around 4 occasions over quite a few years, first time we went we just stayed for a drink and went outside, then the next time we went we were told they had stopped taking food orders even though it was before the time they say they stop.We went somewhere else, the next time we went we were told the same thing even though once again it was well before time, they just said the kitchen has closed even though they were bringing out food to a table of about 6.The last time we went we sat down waiting to order, the woman came out I assume she was the manager with food in both hands, to give to people whom seemed like local, she came over to us and said I hope your not wanting any food because the kitchen is closed even though it was about ten to the time they stop again and we had sat there for at least 20 minutes! She came across as rude, arrogant and I assume they do not like strangers going to their pub. Well we wont be going back there, ever, appaling way to treat people, we cant say anything about the food here because we were never allowed any as not locals!!!!!!! Horrible experiences!

My son and I ate here last night, I had tikka masala and my son had a burger. Both very tasty and good value. The waiter was very attentive and the service was excellent, would be nice to see a bit of this young mans personally, he was very formal for a local pub, We would have liked to have given him a generous tip, unfortunately they were unable to take it on a card and we had no cash, please pass our compliments to the waiter and the chef.

Visited for a Sunday lunch with my wife and two sons, the roast was excellent with generous portions, the children's roast is large enough for some adults and only £6. the service was second to none. Very friendly and quick to serve you with all you ask for. Good selection of beers as well and all in all a very pleasant pub with great outdoor areas in a great location. Good value for money.

We went to this pub and greeted by the "waiter", we took a sit and asked about kinds Of beer, but he didn t know a lot about it... Beer was flat and the owner(I think was him) after complaining about said to us (during he was playing darts) that the beer was not flat and Without any interest in me he re-started to play...I M not writing about the food, that probably was older than my grandma and just warmed and served.Very poor service. We asked for a puddings but we could only choose 2 or 3 of them, cause the rest was out of stock.Anyway the pudding was not too bad. There was a old woman, very attentive to customers and she also helped to clean dirty dishes after they have been left on the table for more than 10 minutes.Quality/price : ACCETTABLE.. if i had paid more, I would have been amazed.

Large choice in drinks as well as dog friendly!COME TO THE BULLL!!
