Great food - delicious and fresh 🤤

Just found out this has 3 for hygiene rating and serves Indian food and fish n chips very confused. Got to be 1 or the other.

Called in for chips with our nieces so pleased we did the chips were cooked fresh and the services was brilliant The man was friendly and had a good laugh with us Can't rate highly enough

Excellent, light batter and flaversome chips. Not greasy or heavy. And a piano! Well worth it.

Great family run Fish & Chips. Food is served hot and fresh from the fryer. Room to eat in if you prefer and a piano if you have the talent. Competitively priced and not expensive. A few minutes walk from the high street and the beach.

Great Indian place, with plenty of Authentic Indian dishes. Highly recommended to try apart from their fish and chips.

Savaloy was absolutely disgusting I took one bite and it tasted like water no flavour what so ever. Worst sausage I've ever eaten in years!

Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long long time. Came to Deal in the pouring rain and was so happy to find this fish bar. The portions were huge. The batter light. Fresh fish. Delicious. The price was fine, but why not have complimentary ketchup? I don’t like paying for ketchup as an extra. TBH it stopped me buying a round of tea and soft drinks. Anyway, staff were friendly and accommodating. Great place go there! Choose the mermaid! Enjoyed the food so much that I didn’t take pictures.

Why so good? Simply put, great service and food. The pies are amazing, not your usual mass-produced offerings. These are succulent with thick gravy, chunks of real meat and incredible pastry. A very pleasant surprise.

When you are hot and tired and needing something to tide you over, to get some energy to continue our walk, we stopped in the Blue Mermaid. Because we wanted a kids meal of scampi and chips, £5.50 each, the face of the server was not impressed. She was trying to get us to order the senior portion. We sat in to eat. Omg, the food was disgusting, the chips seemed as though they were a couple of days old and the scampi were frozen from a packet. When we are by the sea would it be so hard to have fresh. By the time it came the scampi was burning hot and chips were luke warm. The scampi, 5 pieces, were laid out on the chips. Probably to hide how rough they were. I don't understand the high reviews. To be honest we definitely will not return. I'm sure there are better ones near by.

Dropped into this shop for an early dinner. It has 3 tables for eating in, so we did. Cod and chips cooked freshly in front of us. You could taste the food was fresh and we cleared our plates. Owner very friendly and pleasant. I would recommend this business for fish and chips.

Went here today and was very disappointed, ordered a large cod and chips which was expensive however we came here a year ago and were really happy so we came again. I wish I hadn’t… The fish was tiny! Meant to be a large cod but was a kids portion size, do not waste your money, we took it back and they refused to replace it saying that’s a large and they weigh them… poor customer service, I will be going back to my regular chippy in sandwich Ossies who are more than generous with their portion sizes! What a shame…

Fantastic service from Miguel and his team - he was keen to show me how the fish is cooked from fresh and how he prepares and cooks his food - very passionate about his buissness and how his food is fresh ! Chips were greasy some overcooked some undercooked, Haddock was disgusting it tasted off and the batter never stuck to the fish. A male staff member "chef" constantly had his hands in his hair hygiene habits are not up to standard. The shop was grubby front of the fryers were dripping in filth who can guess what behind the counter was like .. Give this a very wide berth this has to be the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Proper hygiene training and cleanliness need applied here... truly disgusting and needs a visit by the council to inspect said premises... £20.20p thrown away due to inedible food.

The fish & chips here are brilliant, We recently stopped here with friends for some lunch & ate in. We shared a large cod & chips between two of us, the cod was delicious. Both fresh & well cooked, with possibly the best batter I've had from a fish and chip shop in Kent! We'll definitely be back.

Being the second time in a long while after visiting, after a bad experience previously (around four years ago) it seemed reasonable to visit to give here another try. Unfortunately, it wasn't great... Having come to spend the evening on Deal beach as an end to a three day trip, some chips sounded like a good idea. Having seen many good reviews, it looked like a promising place to go, close to the sea... The atmosphere of the shop was nice, with a lovely wallpaper and collection of instruments- as a musician, this was great to see! Staff were fast to attend and fast to complete the order- a medium portion of chips. However, upon leaving, after opening the box, it was clear the portion size for the £2.40 medium chips was quite small- a similar portion size to a kids meal! I would understand it could have been an accident, but was made worse by the fact the chips tasted, and a few looked / tasted undercooked and out of date! Such a shame as the place looked nice, and the reviews made it look promising!!

Small fish and chips was lovely and more than enough. Waited a little longer than normal to come but we'll work the wait and very hot and freshly cooked .all 4 of us loved our meals .and the 2 young men that served us were lovely.

We enjoyed the food and the hospitality. Great family run business.

Visited today (ate in) and was the nicest fish and chips we have had in a long time! I had the rock which was lovely and the chips were so nice and not greasy. Great portions we were stuffed! Staff really nice and friendly too, will definitely visit again

Excellent fish n chips. The fish was fresh and the batter light and crispy. The Peri Peri fish bites and tornado potatoes were delicious. Owner is very friendly, we were a group of 8 and the owners went out of their way to accommodate us and ensure we were comfortable. A place not to miss when you're in Deal. Will definitely go back.

Das Fish & Chips dort ist sehr lecker und die Portionen sind recht groß. Das Ambiente ist typisch für eine Imbiss Bude, wie aber durch selbst gemalte Bilder und ein Klavier, das jeder spielen darf, sehr aufgewertet.

Under new ownership since my last visit. Staff polite, friendly and attentive. Update.......open and fast becoming the best fish and chip shop in the south east, excellent produce and a must when im down visiting from London........... Definitely the best cod and chips I've had for a long time. Tryed this place after being disappointed with a competitor on the seafront which normally use. Will only use this fish and chip shop now! Perfect fish and batter and some delightful chips. Good portions and Really good curry sauce as well. Staff friendly, attentive and helpful. Definitely highly recommend.

Arrived just before closing on a Saturday afternoon but very accommodating and friendly. Cod and Chips was freshly cooked and delicious. Batter was crispy and chips perfectly cooked, washed down with a mug of tea and lovely chat with the owner. Hidden gem away from the seafront.

The large haddock is more like a medium and is literally tasteless. Seriously it was in name only and at no time could taste haddock. My partner was suspicious that they were passing off cod as haddock. The positive side is that the batter is nice and light which I gave the 1 star for. The chips were nice but small for a large portion. This place used to be quite good, but not anymore. We ordered from the Blue Mermaid using their online ordering system. Very overpriced for what you get and not good value for money, there are far better places to buy fish & chips in Deal. You answered 2 months late and don't tell me not to leave a negative review. You took my money and pretended to give me haddock. The portions were overpriced and very small and I paid for large. The previous owners would never have done this.

Tried it as a change from The Seaview on the front. All freshly cooked, great chips and lovely cod in crispy batter. Also cheaper. Very good value for money. Will definitely go there again.

The fish tasted fresh but you need to change to fresh oil because there are black spots on my fish and also the mashed peas is so salty.

We came to Deal from Southend-on-Sea so are used to good fish and chips. Mermaids was simply head and shoulders above anything we have had back home or anyone where else for that matter. Simply the nicest fish and chips we have ever eaten. The waitress was really friendly too.

A hidden gem, just off the beaten track in Deal. Excellent for veggies and probably the best chips I've ever had in Kent.

A few months ago it was great, but since Ralph the old owner sold the shop the quality of food has become poor. Chips aren't hot and are tasteless. It use to be the best chippie in Deal.

Lovely decor and nice location. Tucked away from the high street and the sea front, but still within a short walking distance. I enjoyed the fish bites, home made tartar sauce and onion rings. Very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

We only went to this takeaway, as The Happy Fryer was closed for the day. Never again. Both myself and husband were unable to eat it. The batter on the fish was not cooked, so inedible, and the fish was not far behind. Still, we know not to frequent there again.

Been going here for 4 years, served the best Fish and Chips in Deal, possibly England until a couple of months back when it changed ownership. Sadly now the fish is tastless, pies were hard like they've been reheated and reheated. Chips average, all very poor. My fish Friday is ruined, I'll never find Fish and Chips as tasty as I became accustomed to.

Such tasty fresh cooked fish. Huge large cod. And huge Rock Salmon. Fresh cooked chips. Worth the walk to one end of Deal for very tasty fish n chips. Note though its cash only. But place your order and pop to Lloyd's cash point whilst they cook it.

Bog standard fish and chips. When we went though the only fish they had was cod even though they had Rock and Handock on the menu. Did expect better from a seaside town but it was still tasty

Motorcycle ride around Kent . Stopped in Deal today and had Rock (Huss) and Chips from here. Fresh and well cooked .. Had them takeaway and ate them on the beach.

Had been told not to leave Deal without experiencing Fish and chips from The Blue Mermaid.Sadly we were disappointed.Haddock was incredibly good, we waited while it was cooked, but unfortunately they chose to give us old chips that were warm and soggy, which spoilt the meal.If you choose to eat from here, make sure your chips are as fresh as everything else.

Fish and chips always fantastic every single time. Have been getting our take aways from here for years and won't buy fish and chips from anywhere else if we can help it! Fresh, succulent fish with a lovely flavour. We always have the haddock and have never been disappointed.Lovely paintings to look at while you wait. The owner takes such a pride in all that he does. Fabulous and highly recommended!

Was working in Deal yesterday (June 4). When finished I stayed there for a few hours for a walk around and went to this fish shop just before closing time. Vege burger and chips and cup of tea. Absolutely lovely. I had a little play on the piano which I though had a good sound. If you (staff) are reading this I was the guy with the long hair who played a few tunes on the piano who was there until closing time. You (staff) were great as well. All in all, a lovely experience.

I don’t often have fish and chips as I’m not a big fan of chips, however these were absolutely delicious and by far and away the best I’ve had in a long time. I would definitely go back next time I’m in the area.

I came here on a lovely day out with my family and came across this lovely chip shop. The service was very homely and the decorations were interesting. The chips were phenomenal. 5 Stars!!
