Really cute pub, with lovely fairy lights inside and a nice big garden at the back. The service is fab, friendly and helpful. Good price for the drinks and food. The food isn’t fancy, but we had a tasty big plate of scampi and chips.

Haven't been here for absolutely years and was so pleased to see it hadn't changed. Loved the atmosphere of a real old country pub, like going back in the past but obviously in a good way, friendly and helpful bar man and great prices for food, we didn't eat but the menu was super reasonable and varied, so will come back again to try the food, so happy to have found this pub again, can't wait to bring my friends here.

Terrible Service. While waiting for our meal’s, we noticed customers were sending their food back. After 1 hour of waiting enough was enough. It was like Fawlty Towers, only got treated well if you had a Lord in front of your name or you was upper class and lived locally. Avoid.

Booked here for our Christmas Dinner, was actually Christmas day, only two of us so I thought I couldn't go wrong here, at £95 each the menu which was obviously pre booked seemed good. Arrived before the allocated time spot , friendly welcome ect. Basically the meal arrived, starters on slate squares brisket croquettes, tasted like Iceland nibbles The main turned up, vegetables almost raw and I and my brother opted for the beef sirloin, this was running with blood, Basically raw like the veg, stringy and inedible. I have to say at this point we were both so disappointed that we asked for the plates to be taken away, no question of why it wasn't eaten and immediately asked if we would like our deserts which we asked if we could wait for a bit, then again within a minute asked again. We decided at this point to leave . Worse Christmas Dinner ever. Very easy for people to say why didn't you address the issue ? Well who wants to upset everyone on a day like this ? We did notice other parties were sending back their plates and uneaten meals taken away. NEVER EVER AGAIN AT THE BLACK PIG STAPLE shall I return. SHAME ON YOU ! A Christmas day spoilt and never will be forgotten.

Stayed overnight here as well, lovely room. We were here for Xmas dinner with the local LAA. Bare in mind that the place was packed the service & food was excellent. A black mark from Mrs TR7V8 as they had no Rekorderlig or Old Mout she would normally drink but we both ended up with Mulled wine which was delicious. It slipped down a little too easy, luckily I only had to climb the stair at the end of the evening as driving would have been out of the question.

Went for Sunday lunch, had the beef and partner had the pork. I couldn’t eat the beef as it was so tough. The cauliflower cheese and parsnips were practically raw. Service wise, got given our menus and 20 minutes went by without being served, even though the table that came in after was served. Had to go to the bar to order. Ordered another drink which they forgot to bring over so had to go up again to order it. Although the girls behind the bar were very pleasant, they need training in waitressing. It’s a shame as it was recommended to us, maybe their normal menu is better. Would not return.

Superb! My wife and I had our reception at the Black Pig following our wedding and can’t praise Reece and his team enough. The pub made a great venue for the occasion with the dining room comfortably seating our 40 afternoon guests. The room was decorated beautifully to match our own displays without us even asking and we could really see how they wanted to make our day as special as possible. Our wedding breakfast was a big hit with our guests with clear plates all round. The wine pairings were also easy with an excellent list to choose from. The team also prepared an excellent evening buffet for us which everyone raved about and was most accommodating to several dietary requirements that we had. Our guests were also able to enjoy the lovely garden that the pub has which is nicely sheltered and has a sunny aspect whilst the team setup the room for our band which we danced the evening away to. My wife and I and a number of our other guests also stayed at the pub that evening, finding it most comfortable. Discovering fizz and chocolates in our room when we finally retired was a really special touch too and we all enjoyed a great breakfast the following morning. We can’t thank Reece and his team enough for making our day so special. If you are looking for somewhere a little more intimate to hold a special occasion we really couldn’t recommend the Black Pig highly enough.

Quintessential English pub, open all day (most days) so a friendly welcome and an available drink on arrival. Rooms are clean, well complimented with tea, coffee, water etc. Being quiet we chose to eat our evening meal in the bar by the wood burner rather than the restaurant for atmosphere as the locals were chatting and friendly. Food was perfect with a good choice from the menu. A good nights sleep had and a Full English breakfast, again cooked fresh with self service cereals, juice, yogurt and Tea's galore. We would definitely visit again.

The Black Pig may be a very popular pub but the hotel side of the business is very disappointinmg. The rooms are kitted out in a very basic manner, not very clean, doorknobs of the cupboard fall off but most importantly you do not feel very welcome and more like a nuisance. My suggestion would be to stick with the pub and close the hotel side of the business or thoroughly upgrade the rooms and service.

Warm welcome on our arrival at 7.20 pm and we were advised that the kitchen was very busy and we would not be able to order until our booked time of 7.30. I said no problem it would take us that time to get our drinks and to sit down anyway. Shown our table and we enjoyed our drinks whilst reading the menu. About 7.45/7.50 pm ish our orders were taken. During this time we saw another table return 2 out of their 4 plates almost untouched but assumed it may have just been a taste issue. 8 pm first drink finished so got waitress attention for another drink. 8.28pm still no food. Again got the waitress attention and asked what was happening. We were ready to eat each other by this point! Only to be told distractedly whilst she cleared another table that it would be at least another 10 minutes! A vague apology ,but if we had not asked, no one would have volunteered the information. I said we had been waiting nearly an hour now for our first course! She went off to kitchen to check where our food was. Came back and said it’s next out. Limited apologies, no offer of bread or drinks, nothing. Food finally came about 8.40 pm. Sadly we were each disappointed and by this time we were ready to eat the tablecloth! Mums 4 prawns were watery and taste less, my husband’s curry was basically cardamom perfume and weirdly my coleslaw was warm- probably plate had been sitting under a hot lamp- a very strange experience and the chips were tasteless, ribs were nice but all in all felt like basic freezer fayre not great pub grub we had experienced there before lockdown. A huge disappointment. By 9.30 pm none of us had finished our meals, we couldn’t risk another long wait for dessert so cut our losses paid our bill and went home and ate crusty bread and cheese. In the past we have had delicious meals, so maybe it was a one off, these things happen- husband why not check the reviews. I did, sadly our experience is now the new normal at the Black Pig. Many other poor reviews. So my advice is avoid until they sort themselves out. Change your food supplier and be upfront apologising if you get behind. Show you care. We will not be back until we see consistent positive reviews.

We have been to the Black Pig on a number of occasions and have always been impressed with the homecooked food and great cheesecake. Unfortunately this visit was not upto scratch and very disappointing to have been provided with a lukewarm roast., what looked like aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puddings and finally the supposed new York baked cheesecake, which we were told is bought in. As a previous hotelier I understand the devastating effect of Covid has hit all pubs, restaurants and hotels, but please do not use this as an excuse to drop the ball. We have wonderful produce in Kent and your USP was this, so I do hope this is a one off.

Whilst delivering Christmas presents in the local area we decided to pop in for a quick lunch. I am always delighted when an unexpected meal turns out to be thoroughly delicious. We arrived just at opening time to find the door locked and went into the Village Stores next door where they apologised profusely as their staff member was running a little late, they opened up the pub for us with a really friendly welcome along with a few more apologies at running late. How lovely and genuine. We sat in the bar next to the log burner, it is a cosy and warm room decorated with hops and some beautiful Christmas wreaths. We were asked if we wanted the vegetarian menu in addition to the standard menu.StartersSoy & Honey glazed wings were scorching hot (temperature not spice, which I was so pleased with, as I really like food that is supposed to be hot to be hot). The combination of soy and honey was executed perfectly and the sprinkling of sesame seeds added a lovely texture. The other half had garlic butter prawns which were plump, juicy and tender. We both finished these in double quick time. MainsI had the pie of the day, which was Chicken, stuffing and cranberries. I chose chips to go with it and it came served with cabbage and carrots. The chips were a revelation, I don’t know what the chef had done to them, but they were utterly lovely, crispy on the outside and so soft and fluffy on the inside. You probably can’t use the word WOW for chips, but WOW. The pie was quite large and completely filled with delicious filling. Gravy was served alongside in a gravy boat, such a little detail but it completely elevated the meal. I love being able to decide how much/little gravy I want on my dinner rather than it being decided for me. The cabbage and carrots were cooked perfectly. The other half had Chicken & Bacon Suet Pudding, which was also well filled and delicious, soft buttery mash was chosen with that and it also had the cabbage and carrots along with their own gravy boat.We were both full so declined dessert. The meal for two with drinks came to £45 which seemed a total bargain based on the quality and quantity of the food we were served. We came away, completely full and totally satisfied.

New proprietors and chef. Will not be going to this pub/restaurant again. At 2.40 pm the restaurant was empty and obviously had not had any earlier diners. Prawn cocktail starters were the worst I have seen. A couple of dark green lettuce strips and two pieces of red lettuce were dry, the Marie Rose sauce was very watery and ran off the prawns onto a piece of lettuce, not enough to try to dip the prawns in. The main course of roast pork looked like it was last weeks dinner warmed up. Half the plate was warm, the other side was hot. The roast potatoes looked like they had been reheated several times and were difficult to cut into. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt on one side, watery cauliflower cheese sauce had run off the cauliflower and burnt on the dish. Two waitresses were the only staff, serving behind the bar and the restaurant between them. Another couple arrived some time after us. That was the extent of their customers. If a chef/cook had any pride in their food they would not have served it.

We went here to celebrate a birthday. As there were about 16 of us we were asked to select from the menu a week beforehand. The variety of dishes served that evening all looked delicious and I can personally recommend the chicken and mushroom pie! Portions were large. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Apparently new owners took over about a year ago but they have kept up the high standard achieved previously. Well worth a visit.

Visited here last weekend for a small family get together after recommendations from friends. This pub dating from 1588 has olde worldly in abundance. Beautifully laid out dining table with cotton table cloths. The lady behind the bar & the young serving staff were welcoming & friendly. Food was served piping hot & we enjoyed home made stuffed chicken, hand battered cod & roast dinners with homemade roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding & fresh vegetables & then banoffee pie & profiteroles again homemade & delicious. I understand the pub was taken over last year & the new owner is doing a great job, we will definitely return.

I treated my husband and son to lunch today and it was great. A friendly greeting followed by a relaxing drink in the sunny garden. We then had a delicious lunch, tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced. Highly recommended

Visited with two friends for a midweek lunch. The tables in the restaurant were nicely laid up with white linen tablecloths. Between us we had the lamb burger, mac & cheese and the ham hock. We also had desserts. We all enjoyed our food.

Had relatives down from London and due to building works was unable to accommodate so suggested the Black Pig.

Since this pub changed hands recently it has seriously gone downhill. Business was booming last year and Sunday lunches were so popular you had to book a couple of weeks in advance. As this is one of our locals we are so disappointed with the mediocre food and indifference of new owners. They used to specialise in home made pies which were very good and people came from miles around to try them. However they were taken off the menu mostly and now it's the usual pub grub concentrating more on quantity than quality. I've never been into a pub where there's no one behind the bar but it happens in this place. We have tried on several occasions but it remains quite an unfriendly place with no atmosphere. I hope someone who knows how to treat their customers better takes over soon as there's hardly a soul inside when we drive past. Such a shame.

There is a real danger when writing these reviews that you simply get it wrong. I don't think its because I lack taste buds, nor am I particularly slow witted, although I did walk into a post once when I wasn't looking. As with posts, so with pubs: Perhaps it was the crisp weather , or the simple joy of being there with our relatively grown up children. It might have been the general ambience on that particular day. But why can't pub businesses at least be consistent? I was certainly impressed by this country pub once (not so long ago). But... We went back.... With Friends.... Oh Dear. Might have fallen into an alternate world; a much colder one; an empty and indifferent corner of the culinary universe pretending to be a restaurant but actually better off doing what they did so well the first time, warm welcome, cheery fire, beer and bar meals. Oh, and please please please find the thermostat or buy some heating oil (at least for next winter)

I had a fantastic 8 night stay at the Black Pig. I can’t remember the last time I stayed anywhere that had such helpful and friendly staff. The room was comfortable and food and beer in the pub very good. Thank you also to the...

Returned to the Black Pig for Sunday lunch last weekend. Same generous portions, good food, with a different selection of vegetables compared to our last visit which added a little variety to the meal which was a nice touch.

Some friends were staying here and I joined them for a lovely roast lamb dinner. The service was very friendly and the food arrived quickly. The roast lamb was plentiful and cooked to perfection. This is somewhere I will return to this year. Only given four stars because it was not busy and we only chose one course - I would like to see what it's like when it is busy and we have a few different courses.

8 people, most ordering different meals, only one complaint, the pan fried duck was too hard to cut. Had to send it back. Rest of the meal, starter, main and desert were very nice. Would always eat here, especially with family and friends.

We have visited The Black Pig several times but this is the first time since it changed owners. It was a very disappointing visit. The staff could do with some training. The bartender/waiter was friendly and polite but the waitress indifferent, she walked past our table several times without clearing away the remains of the meal that we had clearly finished or making any eye contact. I don't really appreciate waiting staff in jeans and tee shirts checking mobile phones when, perhaps, they should be concentrating on their customers. The food was very mediocre and the pub and restaurant were very cold. I am not a professional cook but I could have prepared a far superior dinner. Clearly they do not have a decent chef or any training in place for their waiting staff. Having said that the barman/waiter was attentive and friendly but for the level of food the prices are way too high. Cafes in Deal serve far superior meals for half the price.

Lovely setting and building. Let down by lack of heating. Dinner good if you wrap up warm enough to eat it. Breakfast poor quality. Stay again - potentially.

We enjoyed a great meal at the Black Pig. Both the pie and pudding of the day were really tasty and accompanied by excellent veg and really tasty, crispy chips. The jam sponge was a perfect way to round off a cold winters evening. The staff were friendly and welcoming- the only thing missing was other diners as the restaurant was empty (although it was early evening). We’d definitely recommend it.

I have recently been here for lunch on two occasions. It was recommend to me and my husband for a fabulous Sunday lunch. To be fair it was enjoyable, but no better than I've had elsewhere. Certainly nothing memorable about it. The last visit was for lunch on a Saturday. The starter of breadcrumbed prawns was tasty. My husband enjoyed his main duck dish. However, my burger was very disappointing, It was most definitely not a good quality 100% beef burger, as it certainly should be for the price. It was tasteless, dry and certainly contained cereal. Pudding was OK. Would I eat here again? No. Would I visit for drinks? Most definitely, as it is a very comfortable, cosy village pub and only a short drive from where we live.

Sunday roast in the Black Pig today. Food was good. Well cooked and plenty of it. Plenty of well cooked & tasty veggies, all served nice and hot, and in pre-heated serving dishes. Shame the meat wasn't hot on the plate itself.

Welcoming establishment with good selection of drinks, particularly ales. Very clean and tasteful restaurant part with good decor. Menus demonstrated good choice of food and “specials” for senior citizens great value. Maybe out of the way but well worth the journey. Will go again.

In the pub lunch world of honest to goodness pie, mash, sausages, chips and other British standards (whatever happened to chicken in the basket?) you will be pleased to pay this interesting half -timbered pub in the middle of almost nowhere, a visit. Of course it's not called "pie and mash" because, rather incredibly, they are "Handymayde" which is either a serious keyboard error or tourist board pseudobilge. Whether "made" or "mayde", this is a friendly place which, provided your navigation skills are sharp enough. I recommend you visit.

The best Sunday dinner in Kent by a country mile. Not cheap but worth every penny. Staff are polite and very friendly. Not sure what else to say perfection ! Been back today, first time in a few months and sad to say not quite as good as I remember, not bad but not perfection. It was just missing something. And lacked a decent vegetarian option and no fish.

17 year old ‘Bouncer’ was loudly making rude comments about my wife to the bartender. Seating and furniture tired and uncomfortable.
