My husband had beef stew and dumplings, the stew was good But the dumplings were not edable he couldn't even get his fork in them told the girls to tell the cook, and not even a sorry came back. Not again.

It was my first time at this place and it would not be my last. What a fantastic pub with wonderful food and very friendly staff.

Homemade Beef Stew. It's been a long time since I last had a stew of any kind. This meal didn't let me down. Everything that goes into a stew complements each other so well, from the carrots to the gravy, dumplings, and a baguette on the side to dip in. Words don't do this meal justice; you have to try for yourself.

Had Sunday lunch at The Black Horse today and it was very disappointing. My roast, while basically tasty, had 1 roast potato, (a lady on the next table didn't get any) 1 slice of grisly beef and a globulus lump of mushy, inedible veg. I did get 3 pigs in blankets but that was because my vegetarian family members had them on their plates! They didn't send them back because it was so busy and we had already waited quite a while. My grandson a very nice burger so not all bad.

Absolutely love this place. Service, food and beer is just splendid. Beer well kept. :-)

I feel bad for not 5 starring this place but I've only been once and haven't sampled any food, the atmosphere was spot on for a Friday night, friendly, packed but not so loud you have to shout, the rear looks has plenty of space and seems to be a summer hub of activity. I'm looking forward to going back and getting a real feel for the place

Our family have been having Sunday dinner at this establishment for a good few years, for familiarity as my Father-in-law who sadly has Dementia and Alzheimer's disease it was something still vaguely familiar to him and up untill oct/Nov last year always had a great time with the staff....but food quality, special dietary requirements ( because of terminal cancer) has disappeared requests for soft, rather than Al dented vegetables or even cold have become the normal, food is over priced for portions delivered coffee always cold, numerous guests have joined us on many occasions and agreed quality was suddenly very poor.....no refunds for food that was beyond sub-standard etc ....when on our last visit Colleen the manager lied saying no-one new of our allergies, requirements (hot food and drinks) or our medical conditions which is a blatant lie, left our numer for Alan or Sarah to ring but over two weeks on not heard a thing....Colleen was shouting and acting so unreasonably infront of all of the customers l asked her if we could talk calmly out side but got nowhere so we decided to leave hoping Alan would ring out of curiosity but he didn't....Needless to say won't be returning never experienced such unprofessionalism and out right lieing AVOID its gone downhill and very over priced my Father-in-law was very upset after we left was heartbreaking to see him cry 😢

It's so good to have this pub as a local. There are plenty of plaudits on here about the food and beer etc. and it's all true. This is more than a pub though. It's a community hub and reflects Alan and Sarah's warmth, enthusiasm and altruism. A number of interest groups have made it their base and they certainly know how to entertain. A visit to the Black Horse is more than going out for a drink, it's being part of something bigger.

We called in to what we hope will be our local pub when we move into the village. When we walked through the door it was very cosy where the staff were very helpful and made us very welcome. For entertainment you could not fault them. Lots to do and enjoy, especially over this festive season. We did not have time to try the food but we have it from family who have eaten there, the food was very good.

Had the beef Sunday roast.slightly disappointed tbh but will give it another try .

Walked into lounge area roaring open fire and great atmosphere. One of the bar staff was extremely rude and ignorant. Others were all great. We'd hired the bowling room for the afternoon which was all lovely and warm for us. The BBQ food was set up in a small cabin and was amazing. Fantastic day. We like real ale good selection of that too. Highly recommended

If you're looking for an old school pub with a relaxed homely feel, this is the place. We enjoyed Sunday lunch here after the Remembrance Day parade at Victoria Park, and I can't praise the staff and especially Colleen for hosting us. The food was 5*, and the locals were extremely welcoming. Looking at what this place has to offer from open comedy nights to quizzes in its separate venue, there's something for everyone. Child and dog friendly with an open fire and plenty of seating, I just wish I didn't live in Northampton as this would become my local!!! Until next time, to Colleen and the team, thanks from us all. You made a difficult day very memorable for all the right reasons.

We regularly come here and the staff are so friendly, the food is lovely and fairly priced and it has a brilliant atmosphere. Dogs are welcome too ☺️Just a brilliant pub to come too, thankyou :)

Terrible service, bad attitude from their general manager. Visited this pub with family on one of their advertised special events. Booked our table for 12 people months before. Advert said until 6pm. We arrived early for our booking at 5.30, then we were asked to make our order quickly as the kitchen was closing. We were calling family members still on route to make their order on the phone. We made our first order,then were asked to change it due to limited portions. In the end we were asked to change our order 3 times. The limited menu left us making choices for what we they had left in the kitchen. When it came out it was wrong and some got sent back. The food was poor. They even tried to hide some pork under some beef to bulk out the meal. Good luck if you have an intolerance or avoid certain meats for religious reasons. When we asked to speak to the manager her attitude was disgusting. She wouldn’t take any ownership for issues we raised, instead she threatened us with the police if we didn’t pay for our meal. We did pay, and in full. Have since been informed were barred. Maybe they should learn some basics, ask large parties to order in advance, check stock levels before your special events, and own up to your mistakes. Good luck with your new manager, she’ll run it into the ground.

Great pub, just popped in for a drink and something to eat, the Theakstons ale was great and they serve some mighty burgers, what not too like.

Twelve of us visited for Father’s Day .We booked for 5.30 but were told at 5.20 that the kitchen was closing even though it was advertised until 6pm. Orders were a nightmare with many items not available. We then asked to see the manager who appeared 15 minutes later in a very aggressive manner. There was then a heated exchange which included her telling us we would all be barred. The owners were not present but I contacted Allan on social media for a response and subsequently wrote them a detailed letter, 3 months later I am still awaiting a response! I have not entered the premises since but my stepson has just informed me he is at the pub and has been barred . For an organisation with a good customer service reputation this is just a total embarrassment!

This place is absolutely disgusting, you have a landlord/manager that likes to shout in womens faces, taking full drinks away and tipping it on the floor in front of the woman, you also have a bbq with a lady cross contaminating food, raw products touching cooked products, not handling food in a correct way, and then serving raw sausage to guests, overall the place is awful, i advise everybody to avoid.

Food was absolutely phenomenal! There is a bit of a long wait for the food but it's cooked absolutely fresh and it tastes incredible, so in my eyes worth it. I'll definitely be coming back 🤤 The staff are really lovely and welcoming.

Lovely food has always, friendly stuff. Never had a bad meal there and that’s a bonus you can take your dog. But today I was so Thankful ,a day like today, I’d forgotten to use deodorant , went toilet and there it was. Thank you so much

First of all I would like to say that the 1 star is for the Landlord. The following incident occurred last December and I have had to wait until I have calmed down after being treated like a scumbag, liar and thief by the landlord in front of other customers. The staff that work behind the bar have always been lovely, polite and helpful. We used to go to the pub at least once a week with friends until we attended the Christmas quiz with some friends. After arriving at the pub, we were told that there was no record of us having booked for the quiz, but the managed to sort a table for us and that was fine. To cut a long story short we ended up coming 3rd , which was a shock and we did not expect to come anywhere. The landlady walked past our table and threw the £20 prize down on the table without so much as a well done or did you enjoy that, she was not a happy bunny. Moments later a member of the bar staff had been sent over by the landlord to ask for our entrance money which had been paid for back in October on the day of booking. The landlord then came over and asked for a receipt, we did not have a receipt as it had been booked in October and assumed everything was OK. The landlord said there was no record of a booking and therefore no record of a payment. He then went on to say that he would look again to see if he could find a record of the booking etc. stating that the only other explanation would be that whoever had taken the booking had pocketed the money (he said that it had happened before in the past so he could not discount it). Minutes later he came back and said there was o record so we need to pay, so we gave back the £20 winnings as it was getting embarrassing, he would not listen to reason that we had booked and paid already. All this for £3 a head. Why on earth would I try to not pay a poxy price like that, after each couple had spent £50 on 2 rounds each. The landlord just had one vision that we had ripped him off, basically we were treated like liars and thieves. The following morning, my sister in law received a telephone call from the landlord to inform her that he had indeed found our booking, he did not admit to finding the money, just the booking. Even after that he did not offer an apology, he just said he was not happy as we had been abusive towards him… That just about sums him up, we tried to argue our point as he was wrong, then after he even discovered we were right and telling the truth he still thought he was right and we were wrong. Needless to say we will not be visiting the establishment again as I will not be putting a penny more into his pocket.

Fantastic pub with comedy venue upstairs. Wonderful friendly staff, enthusiastic landlord, quirky decor, lovely atmosphere and the food looked epic. Thoroughly recommended. We will definitely be back to sample the mighty burgers.

A lovely meal, great range of beers and the highlight of the night; The Laughter Loft - an amazing and intimate comedy club. Brilliantly set up where you get a host and 3 excellent and varied acts, pre-ordered drinks delivered at the intervals - what’s not to love! Cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely be back.

We’d been wanting to book a Christmas meal at the Black Horse after hearing great reviews, and it was an absolutely fantastic evening. As group of 6, including 2 children, we pre-ordered a range of meals, including traditional Turkey dinners, a special Christmas burger, and a vegetarian stuffed butternut squash, as well as chocolate fudge cakes and Christmas pudding for dessert. Every meal was so delicious! We also booked a Buck’s Fizz reception, and we were well looked after by Joe! Thanks for a great evening! 100% recommend!

Hubby and I went for Sunday lunch last week with another couple. We arrived at 2.30 p.m. when our table had been pre-booked. We ordered and paid for our meals at the bar soon after - 3 prawn cocktails for starters, 2 roast dinners and 2 vegetarian options for mains. One hour later we were still waiting for starters so asked how much longer it would be. We were told it would come out shortly, which it did - one lettuce leaf, a few prawns and very watery sauce. How could such a simple starter take an hour to prepare? It was then at least another half hour wait for our mains so we eventually went to the bar to ask for our money back (as the driver of our party finds it difficult to drive in the dark). We were told again that it would be coming very shortly and for the second time the waitress (whose attitude left something to be desired) blamed it on their small kitchen! When the mains did arrive, the two roast dinners were luke warm so we asked if they could be warmed up a bit in the microwave, which she did. However, when she brought them back, she asked what exactly on the plate was cold as she had tested them with a thermostat and only peas failed the test! My husband was very disappointed in his vegetarian meal and ate little of it although, in fairness the other vegetarian seemed okay. I am not a fussy eater and have never bothered to write a bad review before but this really was diabolically bad, both in service and taste. Needless to say, we didn't wait to order dessert or coffee and left. We definitely won't be going again or recommending it to anyone else.

This is a proper traditional pub. The beer is kept well and there's a very large range of gin. Most of the beers are Everards but they have guests on too that tend to be a better bet, All are kept faultlessly with clean pumps. Food is excellent. Taken some friends there recently who said they ate the best burger they've ever had. The veggie and vegan options are splendid. THe service is friendly and they have comedy nights on too. Well worth a visit! There's a very large beer yard for sitting outside.

We stopped in the pub while biking with kids. Pub was not busy at the early afternoon. We ordered drinks and snacks. Garlic mushroom on toast absolutely delicious. Also lemon and chocolate cake very good. I’m looking forward to come back to pub to try...

Had an amazing evening on Monday in the laughter loft with my partner, really good comedians, excellent pre show dinner and impeccable service, great value for money, will be returning soon

We visited at lunch time and sat in the very pleasant garden. Menu was good includin smaller portions. The food was delicious, well presented. The service was prompt, helpful and friendly. The dog was very welcome too.

We went to the Black Horse for Sunday lunch and after using the NHS Covid app to gain entry we were escorted to a Pod which is a little covered seating space, our order for drinks was taken and we were left to look at...

Amazing brie, garlic and butternut squash roast dinner. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, but with the covid rules were all very busy.

Excellent Pub with outstanding customer service. Traditional Victorian style hospitality. The guests at our wedding were all well fed and drunken with a variety of pub grub, side dishes and vegetarian meals. The burgers are also filling. Nice Ruby Red Ale and Mulled Wine in Winter. The staff are always polite and friendly. The beer garden is nice and relaxing with events happening throughout the year. 10 out of 10

Booked a table for 2. Landlord greeted us on arrival & seated us. Explained the house rules etc. All well run a very safe environment. Great staff who regularly checked we were ok for drinks. Good food, fish & chips for me & a chicken burger for the wife. I can’t fault this place at all & I can’t think of a better landlord that I’ve seen working hard, talking to customers, sharing banter & the staff look genuinely happy to be working there. Congratulations to you & your team. Keep up the great work. We shall return.

Why bother with some rubbishy chain for a Sunday dinner, when you have a local independent business on your doorstep. Lovely home cooked Sunday lunch, served by friendly helpful staff. Highly recommended

The nicest, friendliest and most lovely establishment. The food is great - honest pub grub and super tasty burgers with PROPER chips. Vegetarian and vegan options available too. They make such an effort to make sure all customers are happy whether just in for a drink, food or one of their epic comedy evenings. Very 'covid safe'. During lockdown they went above and beyond to help the local community and keep people's spirits up. I feel so proud to have this pub as our local. Cannot recommend enough.

Visited here today 14th September, 3.30-6pm, we had few drinks and a meal, haven’t been since pre Covid, have to say this is the most professional pub I have been since Covid, they have a great plan in place, bar staff fantastic, waitresses fantastic, fantastic chef, me and the Missus had our regular Lestah burger, my daughter had the bacon cheese burger(in the picture) considering it’s only a mile from my house. It’s the best burger I have ever had, time and time again this place keeps up with the fantastic quality of food, it’s wired it’s only round the corner from me, but since Covid it is a cut and above all other restaurants we have been since the restrictions! WELL DONE KEEP IT UP!!!

Just been for lunch after lockdown. It has to be one of the best home cooked fresh meals I’ve had. Lovely food, all made from scratch and great friendly service. I had the chilli and my hubby had the nose bag and side of nachos. Omg we are soooo full. Thank you to Rachael, Gayle and Lauren for making us feel welcome, safe and filling us to the brim!!!

My husband and I ate here on Sunday and had wonderful service from the waitress called Ella. My husband said that his burger was the best he had ever eaten, and he loves burgers!
