Had Easter Sunday lunch at Bell & Jorrocks after visiting Sissinghurst Castle. Staff were very friendly called to change our booking time which was agreed without any issue. Good variety menu and my wife and I both went for the roast sirloin which was perfectly cooked as were the good selection of vegetables. Reasonable price as were the drinks. Staff very very polite and helpful will definitely visit again.

Lovely pub. Heart of the village, beautiful church nearby. Went on an impulse and rang and got the last table. Excellent beer and service. We had the roast but there was also an excellent menu Pub was packed, obviously with many friends. In the summer the visitors spill over outside into the sunshine. This village has a remarkable historical society telling many stories of the war years..

Delicious fresh traditional pub grub - we were pleased we had booked as the pub was full on a Thursday night. Served on scrubbed wooden tables we had liver and bacon served on mash with a good selection of fresh vegetables. Our wives had scampi and chips - good portions and excellent chips, followed by sticky pudding and pear and apple crumble, served with proper custard. Beer and cider good with cheerful service - an excellent evening - great value less than £25 per head

With Kent in Tier 3, this is the place to go to get your takeaway meals. We had the Sunday Roast Lunch. The beef was cooked to a turn and delicious and so were the vegetables. All ordered with the minimum of fuss; ready at the time we wanted and served by a very friendly host. No doubt, we will be back and will also try a meal from the rest of the menu. Not only is there take away food but there is also a shop for those items you may suddenly find you need.

Visited this delightful pub whilst on a walk from Sisdinghurst; received a very friendly greeting. The pub was clean and tidy and without the annoyance of background music.A good range of beers and lagers were on offer, and a fantastic traditional pub menu. I had a very good Hamm egg and chips (home baked ham) and my wife had an enviable portion of freshly battered fish. We have already started to recommend this pub to others as we will certainly be returning soon.

I searched trip advisor for a country pub for Sunday lunch , and also it was such a nice day my wife and I took out my classic car , although we didn’t explore the area it seems like there is only the pub in this village, it’s a typical country pub with all the usual decor and accessories, horse brasses etc , I ordered sirloin steak , home made chips and mushrooms with vine tomato’s , the wife ordered beer battered cod and home made chips with pea and mint purée, both were excellent no complaints at all both freshly cooked and well presented, for sweet I had triple chocolate mousse and my wife had apple and strawberry crumble with custard these again were very nice , so overall I recommend a visit but you’ll need to book as I did as it gets busy , the only reason I didn’t give it a five was that we had to wait quite a while after the time our table was booked for the table to clear of the previous customers, which obviously isn’t the pubs fault , but I felt there was quite a long wait until our meals arrived, but it was a lovely day so not so bad

We had been to a number of towns and villages in and around Tenterden, including going to a Lions car show- which was wonderful ! We found ourselves wandering along the lovely Kent countryside when we came across The Bell and Jorrocks. It looked nice, the sun was shining and we spotted a free table outside and went for it! The landlord gave us a very warm welcome and took us through the menu his wife was preparing. We had whitebait and filo king prawns then the Sunday roast. All beautifully prepared, cooked and presented. The local people were friendly especially as their football team had won 2-1. !! Three hours later, feeling very relaxed, we were on our way again back to London, sadly! This is a nice friendly pub well worth visiting. Solid English fare at a sensible price. Thank you

When we arrived they only had their Christmas menu available and there wasn't anything I wanted on there. The waitress was extremely helpful and asked whether I would rather have an omelette, so I had a lovely cheese and mushroom omelette and fries and it was absolutely delicious. Came here with my partner for a few nibbles and a drink. Staff were lovely and sorted out a little table for us so we were able to eat as they were pretty booked up. Food was absolutely delicious and cannot complain whatsoever about anything we ordered off the menu. Service was a little slow but we weren't too fussed as the pub was extremely busy. Unfortunately our experience was ruined by a few guests at the pub. seeing as it was busy, there was a gentleman who took it upon himself to use our table whilst we were eating as a resting place for his drink and his empty pint glass. After a while we did politely inform him that we were eating and found it quite rude and we got a rude remark from him as we left the pub. Others from that party were also knocking the table and us as they walked past without any apology. We even had another couple ask to share the already tiny table with us so they could eat too. We know that the pub is obviously very popular and busy, and customers such as this are somewhat out of the staffs control. However it did ruin our meal and is why the stars were knocked off and I doubt we would return because of this.

The Bell & Jorrocks is a fantastic little local - luckily for us. I've eaten there often and never had anything but praise. It's better that its competitors simply by looking after its customers and getting its business right. Best to book as it can get busy (incidentally during which I've never seen standards drop). Saw a recommendation on Facebook and the picture of the bar was enticing so thought we would check it out for Sunday lunch. The pub was very welcoming. We had our dog with us and she never fails to get warm greetings! We were 45 mins early for out booking but they were happy to seat and serve us.The menu was short but the options were excellent. My wife had the parsnip soup and plaice (she loved both) while I went for anchovies with wilted spinach and (perfect) poached egg followed by lamb shank which was so tender I could just lift the bone out. My excellent pint of Woodfords Wherry was a perfect companion. The pub is not large and the bar was quite crowded (including the local football team that had just finished the match we had heard as we wandered around beforehand) which meant there was some overspill into the dining area which was a little incongruous. However, it did not detract much from what was a lovely overall experience.

Having parked in Frittenden to do a cheeky little 5 mile walk through the countryside to Sissinghurst and back (AA 50 Walks in Kent book), decided upon a spot of lunch to re-fuel, once we arrived back to our start point. The Bell and Jorrocks was very conveniently situated for such a fuel stop! We sat at an outside table, which was very pleasant, and had waitress service. There was a very extensive menu, plus being a Sunday, a choice of 2 roasts. However, as we were eating in the evening, only required a snack. Plenty to choose from, but we all opted for the home made soup and hot roll. This was an excellent choice, and it was stilton and broccoli today. The soup was delicious and the roll was a lovely, fresh granary half stick. Soup could have done with being a bit warmer, but otherwise, perfect. The boys had chunky chips with theirs, and they were excellent, cooked with their skins on to perfection. We will definitely return here for an evening meal at some point and to sit inside in the restaurant.

Yes, this is a proper pub, no question. I wasn't there on a planned visit, so approached it on a "be thankful you found a place on Sunday before 2 pm" basis. In general, absolutely an above average pub with above average food. I would have preferred a sandwich, tbh, but that was not an option...be aware. This is not a big pub and tables are reserved on Sundays, so be aware. There is no beer garden, just a few tables out front that get a lot of sun.In summary, I'm glad I found the place as it was a welcome break. However, a few sandwiches on the menu for lunch on Sunday wouldn't go amiss.

Having spotted The Bell & Jorrocks on Trip Advisor and read the good reviews, I decided to take my friend their for her birthday and booked a table. It isn't the easiest place to find and there isn't a car park. We were pleasantly greeted and shown to our table in the small dining area. However, when a very noisy group of 4 arrived, it became very difficult to talk - luck of the draw I suppose. The smoked salmon and cream cheese starter was generous (£6.95). My friend's portion of ham (ham egg & chips) was huge. (£10.95). My duck breast was tastey with a delicious sauce, but served with baby turnips - I found this an odd choice and spoilt the dish - which at £18.00, I felt was expensive for pub grub.Sorry to be a bit negative, but the visit did not live up to expectations. Everything was nice, but it needs more than that to entice a return visit.

The kind of traditional, friendly pub that are fast disappearing from our villages. Haven't been here for a number of years but it has not really changed at all. Love the chalked comments on the beams which is something locals have been participating in for many a year! Menu was not extensive offers a good choice for all tastes and I am always suspicious of pubs that offer a vast variety of dishes as I doubt the food is freshly prepared. We pushed the boat out with 3 courses as it was a special birthday celebration and all 5 of us were delighted with our choices. I had the vegetarian lasagne which was tasty with good texture, the lamb was very tender & fish was cooked beautifully, so I am told. Word of mouth had reached me that The Bell & Jorrocks had a really good ambiance and served tasty food - I would wholeheartedly agree!

We were visiting from Australia and our friends took us to the Bell & Gorrocks for a meal. We returned on many occasions because of the exceptional service, quality meals and friendly atmosphere!! My wife has a dietary requirement for gluten free food and this pub has an extensive range to offer and the meals are fabulous, both in flavour, and quantity! We would recommend it to any travellers as a friendly place that serves excellent food and beer, all with a friendly smile from management and staff. We can't wait to come back!!Thank you Rosie and Shaun for making us feel part of your wonderful community!regardsDon & LornaBrisbane Queensland Australia

a lovely pub and restaurant in Frittenden, not really on the busy tourist route but well worth the detour (about 20 minutes from the M20) if you are ever close, the landlord and landlady are very welcoming and friendly the food is excellent and great value for money and a wide variety of beers/real ales only add to the worth of the visit, obviously in a small village like this the pub is frequented by the locals who also make you feel more than welcome, the Free WIFI is like an oasis in a desert of week signal strength. will be back whenever in the area

Been here on a few occasions and every time we have had quality, home made food and well kept beer. The staff and especially the landlady make sure you are looked after. Due to the pub being small and its popularity it can get quite crowded when the weather is poor and the outside seating is unavailable. Overall highly recommended.

It was certainly a friendly pub with not too many customers when my wife and I had lunch recently. We noticed that there were no prices to the main list of dishes but ordered confit of duck. The meal was the best I have eaten for a long time and there was plenty of it. We also had a pint of beer each, soup, Eton mess and coffee. The bill was £61. I have since looked up the prices from the internet and find that for two the soup and duck came to £37.50 so the beer, sweet and coffee came to £23.50. And this is for lunch which is usually cheaper than dinner. This would therefore be a good pub to go for a special occasion but if one were merely feeling hungry one should exercise some caution.

Really friendly. Although full of locals you are made welcome. The food is good and I am told the beer is good although I don't drink!

Great service, friendly atmosphere and fantastic food! What more could we ask? Very generous portions of sea bass and samphire and seasonal vegetables. The beer was good too. We all enjoyed a fabulous meal. Definitely going again. And it was not even that expensive!

Bank Holiday Monday with an excellent menu choice - the seasonal Asparagus and Pea Risotto was just right, as was the Warm Chicken and Bacon Salad. A traditional atmosphere and a good range of real ales, and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

Sunday Lunch - 15th Feb 2015 - (Mothering Sunday). - 4 adults - tasty first courses (Chili Prawns, Tom & Basil Soup, Pear & Gorgonzola Salad x2 - all delicious). 3 of us had the roast (beef or lamb) - first class - tender - great Yorkshires and plenty of fresh veg. 1 of us had Teriyaki salmon and noodles - tasty. Attentive pleasant prompt service. Just couldn't manage what looked like great puddings! So two courses, two drinks each - (good choice of ales) - came to just under £25 a head including tip. Great value. NB I had been couple of weeks before- midweek lunch time - bit quieter but can definitely recommend the Venison and Cranberry Pie - interesting menu too!

Took a look at Tripadvisor for our next venue and found this pub with 5 stars so just had to see for ourselves...Smashing pub, full of life and the welcome and service where A1.Very impressive menu and several fish dishes to choose from, maybe next time...Normally we order a roast but 'Steak & Kidney Pudding' was on the menu, so I had to swerve away this time. The roast was excellent, the vegetables cooked just right and the potatoes just perfect. The pudding was beyond words, I don't exaggerate when I say it was the best I've ever had. Three cheers for the amout of kidney too as most only contain a few morsels. We will be returning and I think quite soon.Thank you Bell & Jorrocks x

Sunday lunch - choice of roast beef or turkey & all the trimmings, or the main menu. Both turkey and beef were excellent! Pub was full with diners and drinkers at the bar. Wonderful atmosphere and perfect example of an English country pub. Good selection of both real ales (Wherry, Harvey's plus a rolling guest) and lagers (Pilsner Urquell for the discerning). Whether you are a local or a first time visitor you'll get a warm welcome. Well worth a visit!

We visited on 23/8/14,which was our second visit in 2 weeks. In that time, apparently, they had changed the chef.We had been looking forward to a white bait meal but that had been taken off of the menu.Instead 2 of us had the Beer battered cod with chips and mushy peas, absolutely a fantastic meal, excellent quality and portions.Another party had the Jacket potato with crayfish, and salad and this turned out also to be excellent.A novelty is to be greeted by the resident chicken,if you eat outside, asking for food.I fully recommend a visit and certainly a meal there,at least at lunchtime. Also stocks 2 regular ales along with guest ales very week.

We visit the B & J whenever in Kent and usually for a meal and a few beers with friends and family. Rosie and Sean have made this into one of the best, friendliest locals available anywhere. It is well placed for a refreshment stop after a visit to Sissinghurst Castle, or for a pleasant ride out into the Kent Countryside. You won't be disappointed.

Sean and Rosie will give you a warm welcome whether your are a regular or newcomer. Great beers - regular new real ales, quality Czech lagers; very good food. This pub is the hub of the local community, and a place where people from all walks / professions / trades happily drink together. Very much a locals' pub, but don't be put off! One visit and you'll be hooked for life. Great beer festivals and regular farmers market too. I could not wish for a better pub!

First time in the area and was struggling to find somewhere for lunch. Stumbled upon this place and I am so glad. Went for the caprese panini and a hot chocolate. So good. The panini was so well done and a very generous portion. The hot chocolate is the best I've had in a very long time. People were so friendly as well - thank you and I'll be back!

I genuinely think their hummingbird cake is the best cake I've ever eaten and I'm very much a cake afficionado. Absolute wonder. The place is gorgeous and tasteful and the service's lovely.
