The Barn at Alfold in Waverley

We were a mixed aged family group meeting for a celebration meal. Everyone at the Barn at Alfold went out of their way to make our experience special - the food was beautiful and the welcome and service was wonderful. Thank you xx

We dined here on a cold wet day but The Alfold Barn was an oasis of warmth and joy. I'm not sure what was the most warming. There was Scott and his blazing log fire, Fran with her magnificent cooking, the delightful servers and, of course, Carolyn's beautiful smile. The roast pork was the best I have ever had and my wife said her, melt in the mouth, beef was superb. Thank you all for your supreme efforts in these difficult times.

Very busy, as it was Mothers Day lunch, but lots of attentive staff who made sure that the service was speedy and excellent. The food was fantastic as always, and lots of it! So glad that I didn’t have a starter as I wouldn’t have been able to fit in the gorgeous Eton mess (loads of lovely strawberries)! Highly recommended!

Went for a birthday lunch and it couldn't have been better. Walked into a room with a live fire in the fireplace so that set the scene. The staff were fantastic, best service for a long time. The lunch was lovely. Not in Surry often but this demands a repeat visit.

The two of us went for a Sunday lunch after reading the reviews. The service was very good, however although the food was very good, there was plenty of vegetables, the best gravy I have tasted and lovely roast potatoes, the only thing that let it down was the roast beef. I was asked how I wanted it cooked, which was medium rare, but it was overcooked and not pink, rather tough and tasteless. Hopefully, this was a one off as would still love to go back.

The food choice was extensive, home made and very tasty. The desserts were delicious. Staff were really friendly. Only down side was that it was very cold inside the barn, probably because the two large fires both had tables in front of them which stopped any heat getting to other areas. However, worth visit for warm welcome and food.

We have eaten at Alfold Barn so many times since our visit back in October 2021, that I have lost count. We don’t go anywhere else around here now. Why would we? Today it was just lunch for two, but the place has become a huge hit with all of our visiting friends too and for the same reasons we love it. Of course it may just say something about my own cooking skills of course, but seriously, I know that it’s because it’s a great place to meet up. You always get a genuine and warm welcome from Carolyn and her team, friendly service, excellent food, and, it’s consistent. That’s something I can’t say about many places in this area. We always come away very full , happy and satisfied having had a nice time and feeling valued as a customer. Thank you Fran, Carolyn, Scott and team for yet another super meal today. It’s always a joy and we look forward to visiting again in a couple of weeks with our friends.

Used to be a regular before Covid and returned tonight with my boyfriend who was previously a chef. Fran’s food never disappoints. Top quality Pork and Crème brûlée in particular. Love supporting long standing, independent eateries. Thank you Fran and family x

Yet again an amazing Sunday Roast, nowhere else comes close to Fran’s Sunday dinner, we are yet to try an evening meal ! Cannot fault the friendly service(eg being asked if you want more food or gravy) but more importantly food was outstanding. Huge choice of veg and potatoes…very old building…roaring fire can’t wait to return

I asked over a week ago whether a table was available for 6 last night and they never responded to confirm - we literally had no conversation, so I looked elsewhere. Then, this morning - on my birthday - I received an immensely rude email saying ‘I was the reason small businesses are going under’ as they had put a table aside for me?! Huh?! I was really upset by the email and cannot believe the rudeness, absurdity and aggression of the owners. Even if I was going to try it, I now will not. Perhaps the reason there business isn’t doing well is due to their customer service and lack of organisation when it comes to their booking system.

We'd go more often if we lived closer, but we make the trip as often as we can as the food is amazing every time and the people are lovely - always very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We're usually there for the roast but have also tried other items on the menu and they're always excellent too! Can't recommend it highly enough!

The Take away for Tim’s birthday last night was fantastic, my Paella was awesome, Tim’s Brisket was superb, Katie’s Chicken Pie was delicious and Lynn’s Sea Bass was beautifully cooked. Thank you Fran the Muffins were really appreciated. A really lovely evening despite the rain!

We ordered takeaway Sunday lunch and , my goodness, what a treat!One beef and one pork - delicious....but the vegetables...wow...8 including roasties.Everything was cooked like a good family, home cooked meal, even included apple sauce, horseradish and stuffing!!We will be back!!

The takeaway menu is extensive and every dish is a real treat. The food is beautifully cooked and presented, the helpings are generous and the family are smiling and very helpful. We can’t wait to go back when they can open up again but in the meantime we will continue to enjoy the takeaways! Can thoroughly recommend them!

If you have had the pleasure of eating in the Restaurant when it was open, you will know the quality and style of the food on offer. To use a well-known phrase “Nothing has changed” is the mantra of the “Take away Menu”. There is a new menu every Monday for Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings and Sunday Lunch. My advice is to book early for the collection time slot you desire, I personally have been impressed with the complete service package and I would recommend any dish, but the beef-based meals, especially the Curries are my favorites. Remember to save room for the excellent starter and or desserts.

Thank you to the barn! We’ve now had a couple of Sundays where we have pre-ordered a take away /collection Sunday lunch. The Barn have been brilliant and accommodating. One Sunday we phoned on the Sunday morning and was still able to pick up a beautiful roast by noon. They also accommodated a meal for our fussy 6 year old, who only wanted veg and Yorkshire pudding! The takeaway roast is plentiful and was still piping hot when we unwrapped it at home. We particularly love the cauliflower cheese, roasties, Yorkshire’s and gravy. We ordered the famous curly wurly cheese cakes for pudding.... but was so full, ended up eating them the next day! Yum. We will definitely be ordering takeaway again. Thank you

Hadn’t been here for quite a few years but they gave us a great birthday lunch. Friendly staff and lots of them. Good grub and reasonably priced wine. Many thanks. Only neg is that the place could do with a refurb. The area at the back quite tatty.

My family went for the Sunday Roast lunch recently and it was a fabulous experience. The food were presented very beautifully, very delicious and they were large portion. Difficult to get reservations though so I suggest people book well in advance if you plan to be there. Staff were very attentive, sanitised their hands very frequently and even took our temperature at the entrance. Overall, it was a very safe and happy experience.

As a bunch of friends we like to go out to eat and try different places. I was getting a bit fed up with the mediocre food on offer and for a while now have been suggesting The Barn as having been there a few times before, I just knew they would love it. It is a bit of a longer trip out than normal and for six of us it needed a mini bus but it was well worth it and ( phew) they loved it! The food as usual was delicious and oh joy, piping hot when needed. We had an array of starters, main courses and puds. The portions are extremely generous but we did our best as it was all so wonderful and apparently the bread and butter pudding was the “best” one of them had ever eaten and “she’s” an expert on B&B puddings. The service too was friendly with a sense of humour thrown in. AND one has to comment on this these days, very Covid friendly. A lot of thanks came my way in the minibus home, and a lot of must do it agains. No doubt we will. I will anyway.

Our arrival for Sunday lunch managed efficiently and in a welcoming way. The service exceptionally good from a team of young people overseen by a very lovely lady. Nothing was too much trouble and the food fantastic obviously freshly cooked with a good choice. The roasts were super and the selection of vegetables vast. If you are a pudding person save room for one as they looked gorgeous. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Our first visit to the Barn was also our first restaurant outing since Covid-times. We were looking for crab for a birthday celebration and the Barn seemed to be the only place offering it. Discussed with them beforehand to check how it would be served, and also because we have a Coeliac in the party - they were very helpful, reassuring and accommodating to all our requirements.(And for those slightly anxious re Covid, they have clear protocol on their website and good safety measures on arrival both times). Portions were very generous - too much for us, but takeaway containers offered before we even asked, so our meal stretched to lunch the next day too! Crab was delicious and worth the money as a special treat. But it was daughter's review of the lasagne that meant we had to come back again...So our second visit involved a couple of lasagnes, monkfish, and a beef rendang, all very enjoyable. The people running/serving here are friendly, chatty and so accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. They even remembered details about us from last time, asking our children how school/uni going etc. A really enjoyable experience both times.

This was the first time I have had a Sunday lunch out in a pub since before the lockdown started so I was a little nervous but having seen some good reviews of Alfold Barn I decided to book for my friend and I.We were shown to our table promptly on arrival and I was pleased to see there was plenty of space and that the COVID-19 rules were being well adhered to - but at the same time we felt welcome and I thought the staff were very attentive and helpful. I asked if I could have a smaller size roast turkey dinner which our waitress said was fine - when it came it still seemed pretty generous ! It was all cooked really well, one of the best roasts I've had in a long time with lovely tender turkey and lots of different vegetables. I couldn't manage it all having not been too well recently but will definitely be back at some point to sample more of the lovely food here.All in all we had a relaxing and enjoyable lunch which was just what we both needed.

We were staying nearby and walked to the pub. We’d already called once put our booking back and we got lost on the way and had to call to put it back again-the people we spoke to about it were understanding.When we got there we were warmly welcomed and taken to our table-it was very big so we were well spaced and the other tables were well spaced from us. There was an extra table at the end of ours on which our food, drinks, cutlery etc were placed so the staff could keep their distance - I’ve never seen such good consideration in a restaurant.The food was very nice with huge portions. We had a lot of allergies and intolerances in our group which they handled very well. My only negative point was I didn’t fancy either of the veggie options for main course, but I didn’t tell them this as I had a starter with sides. I feel like if I had told them they would’ve gone out their way to make any accommodation they reasonably could as they did with the other dietary requirements.

We have just returned from a delightful evening meal at the Alfold Barn. We booked a table for a evening meal with good friends, we have not been to this restaurant in years, so booked a table. What a fantastic evening and even more fantastic food, it was so hard to choose from the menu, so many delicious choices. After a drink and a lot of though all four of us had made a choice. The service and food proved to be above and beyond the lovely choices on the menu, all cooked to perfection and even more tasty, the offer of more veg was not taken up as the portions were really generous. We will be dining here more often, welcoming and friendly. Thank you again.

What an amazing pub & its staff were great and very welcoming. They made us feel really welcome and because we mentioned when booking that it was our anniversary, we even had personalise anniversary menus- amazing touch. The food is excellent with lots of choice on the menu, fish, seafood and a great selection of traditional pub food too. Also a good selection of deserts with the curly wurly cheesecake was amazing.

We haven’t been to The Barn at Alfold since February and it honestly felt like we had come home. The food was more than perfect if that is possible, scrumptious and plenty of it as usual. Thank you for making our first trip out since lockdown absolutely wonderful and for making us feel so safe in your company. The food is excellent. if you like home cooked food, with lots of choice on the menu, then you must visit Alfold Barn. Nothing is too much trouble for them. This was a Takeaway roast dinner at its finest! Our first experience of ordering here and I am so impressed with the service and the amazing quality of the food. The portions were enormous and it tasted incredible. I want to shout from the rooftops about this place it was that good. We were so privileged to be able to be part of the first opening evening last Saturday. Strict measures had been put in place to protect all diners with temperature checks on arrival and hand sanitiser readily available throughout. The positioning of the tables ensured there was more than enough social distancing between everyone and the atmosphere was so warm and friendly. All the staff wore masks but this did not stop us having good conversation with everyone and catching up on the last 3 months.Our food choices were just amazing and cooked to perfection and we were given a little brown box to take home with our favourite dessert in which was so thoughtful and a lovely gesture. Nothing is too much trouble and we cannot thank Fran, Dave, Carolyn, Scott, Katie & Becca for being the perfect hosts and giving us such a lovely evening.We have already booked for another Saturday evening in July and we can't wait to return to this lovely restaurant. Whilst the delicious take aways have been great during this period of unpleasantness it was a delight to be one of the first to dine at The Barn on the first day after lock-down on Saturday. The family have spent a great deal of time, effort and resources on the modifications needed to keep us all safe so eat here with confidence. The food was, as ever, superb, and the service excellent. I greatly missed my usual hug with Carolyn but this separation can't be forever and we can look forward to more normal times. A great big thank you and love to Fran and Dave, Scott and Caroline and Katie and Becca.We will soon be back,

what an absolute joy to be back eating Sunday lunch at the Barn! faultless as per usual, staff are incredibly attentive and the procedure for covid guidelines brilliant! we had our temperature taken at the door and sanitizer was available too, can’t wait to come back! thanks Carolyn Becky and staff xx
