Took a chance that there would be a table at hilltop today. Sat inside and was told by the waitress that the table was not booked today. She couldn’t be more helpful. Tasty sausage roll, although this was the only savoury at the counter. Lovely and peaceful, beautiful view. Tom, part of the front of house team put on the music - much louder inside where the speakers were. On asking the music was turned down, but as we finished our meal, he turned it up again. He also seated someone at the same table even though there was another not booked for lunch. My mother went to the counter to place an order and like other comments already posted, there was no acknowledgement or reassurance she would be served. She gave up. I went in a her place and was given two cinnamon rolls for the price of one. Was this an unspoken acknowledgement that she should have been served. Was appreciated. Still had a nice time, but front of house perhaps too busy or need to consider all guests and not just those they know by name.

The website states when booking a table you are booking for inside the shed, outside tables are on a first come first serve basis. We took this to mean first come first serve for anyone. It was a beautiful day so I did not book. When we arrived the outside tables all have reserved on them. Apparently for those with reservations inside. To make matters worse we were then told they would not serve us food from the menu. Only what was available from the serving hatch (a sausage roll £5.50!!! Or a baguette). It was already 2.30pm so no time to go elsewhere. We found a seat with another couple who kindly offered to share their table. We had ordered 2 sausage rolls and 2 drinks and after 20 mins I walked to the hatch to ask for my £6.50!!! Kombucha, I was told to wait, it was just coming, could they not just hand me the kombucha?? So I waited. It was our wedding Anniversary and will be memorable for all the wrong reasons.

This may be my last visit for a while or until the reviews improve. I have been here a few times as I love the location, sitting having a coffee with the amazing views is lovely. But again I stood at the counter for 5 minutes with staff there and no one acknowledged me? 3 staff saw me there and all I needed was one of them to say ‘I’ll be with you soon’ they come across as so rude. We decided after having a drink to move locations and the pub up the road in Hascombe gave us a warm welcome so we will go there next time.

Proper English pub with proper beer and food, and home made pies to die for, non of this casserole with a bit of fluffy pastry on top rubbish 🙄👍

Fabulous for a Sunday Lunch all either local and/or british products. From the meat to the vegetables & fruit everything is sourced as locally as possible. For me that is a BIG PLUS of this restaurant and I truly believe what OUR farmers can produce way outshines what is imported. Field to plate in 48 hours! Sorry, no photos, I just enjoyed the company I was with and the delightful food which was all beautifully presented.

We had a very disappointing experience. We had chosen the restaurant to meet up with friends for lunch. When we arrived it seemed we were expected for tea - at 1230. Despite email confirmation for lunch and mentioning a menu choice. The lunch menu is light meals only, but even so the food was unappetising and poor. A big let down despite the smart grounds.

We were a mixed aged family group meeting for a celebration meal. Everyone at the Barn at Alfold went out of their way to make our experience special - the food was beautiful and the welcome and service was wonderful. Thank you xx

Absolutely desperate to find somewhere to eat with good basic pub food. Guildford has loads of different eateries / cafés / restaurants but all with a lack of gluten free dishes in spite of reviews. Then we found the Star Inn. Spot on! Ham, egg and chips and hunter's chicken. Just right for the occasion! The staff were friendly and welcoming and the pub has a pleasant atmosphere. It is in a very convenient situation at the foot of High Street.
