The service is what brings us back time after time the food is fab lovely staff never disappointed everyone we take says the same and that's a lot of people.

We had the most AMAZING lunch at The Refectory yesterday. Fabulous pub/restaurant, scrumptious food & really lovely waitress & team looking after us. A huge thank you to them all!! PS We’ll definitely be returning soon hopefully!

The refectory is your classic traditional pub food and drink Emporium. None of it is cheap but nothing is outrageously priced unlike some other local hostelries. To my mind the thing that makes the refectory stand out is the welcome you get as you come in and the willingness of staff to stop and chat. Has that certain friendly landlord feel to it. Huge car park and plenty of outdoor seating for when the sun comes out. Recommend the puddings and definitely sample a couple of beers before settling on one.

Delightful place, great service great food, lots of parking and bustling inside. But our table near the short end of the bar had a green hanging lettuce edge lamp that shone right into our eyes, otherwise 10/10 ! A lovely selection of ciders and something on the menu for everyone.

Generous portions. Hot food (very important). Attentive service for drinks. It’s was St Patrick’s Day, so the Guinness head printer was a cute touch. Nice relaxed and clean environment. My favourite place for a Sunday roast x

We were in a hurry as we were late to eat and then going to a show. The service was excellent. As requested, our meals - very tasty mussels in thai red sauce- came quickly. Highly recommended

We had an excellent time at our Wedding Reception with around 45 guests. Many people commented on the quality of the food as well as the variety of dishes that were available to them. The service was wonderful and the communication between Mitch and his team worked very well with everyone receiving their pre-selections in a very efficient way. The flexibility of providing cakes from a different source was greatly appreciated as well. Thank you so much Mitch and the Team. You did us proud!

I hadn't visited this place for several years. I love the architecture of the building with the visible beams and general layout. It also appears to have an expanded outdoor area. There is an excellent choice on the menu, all at reasonable prices although I'm not sure about the £33 steak. On this occasion I opted for the Beef Burger, which was delicious, simply because the other dishes contained elements I do not eat. However the other members of my party were more than satisfied with their mains and we ALL enjoyed our various desserts. I can't comment on the drink selection as I was driving and only had a Coke. The only faults I could point out: 1 Gents toilet DIDN'T have HOT water and in the other, the electric hand dryer wasn't working. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Wait staff. I'm hoping that someone from management will read this, so please pass on my thanks to those who served us. I was a little remiss in personally thanking them on the day. I hope to visit again in the future.

Although lots of tables was not occupied, we had to wait at the bar... reserved table yes, but step by customers, seems they are not up to prompt customers. Place is beautiful.

Had a lovely meal here! It was real nice and welcoming! The Batman (ophps, pressed the wrong button but thought I’d leave it in, barman) that made our fiancé’s cocktail was great (a lovely strawberry daiquiri) The food was good I now love black garlic! If anything.. it was really hot so I had to open a window near by to cool down! It wasn’t stand out wow!! but I was good and we will go back for more😊

Dining in the fabulous Refectory is a must. Good food and drink with excellent service. Booking is advised as the place is always busy as is the car park.

Superb way to celebrate my dad’s 80th birthday.The staff were attentive and friendly. They all dealt brilliantly with mine and mum’s coeliac disease. Were helpful with my wheelchair. The food was brilliant. A great evening. Thanks to all the staff.

We had fish and chip and they were lovely

Had a meal here recently, food is good (but expensive, especially for the desserts). Service terrible, had to go to the bar several times to get cutlery, chase our mains, order etc. We had clearly just been forgotten by the staff. Guy behind the bar was friendly, 2 women significantly less so. Had a good meal at Christmas here but wouldn’t bother to return sadly. £180 for a 3 course meal for 4.

Average food that was not worth the price paid; cold chips and a vegetable dish consisting of cabbage and 2 measley carrots. Service was very slow - think we were forgotten about.

Haven't been for years and it's much improved. Wonderful food and service. We hadn't booked and got the last free table, lots of people being turned away - definitely book I will in future. Had fish pie it was delicious.

I went to the refectory with friends for our Christmas lunch. We had the turkey dinner and Christmas pudding. The dinner was very nice. Not the very best I have had out, but still very nice and worth the money. The Christmas pudding was not as rich as I would have liked it but it was ok. The service and the atmosphere were both excellent. I would definitely recommend a visit. No service charge is added to the bill which makes a real change these days. We left our waitress a cash tip as she was very friendly and helpful.

Wow.....now its Christmas time and when 4 of us visited for lunch today it was very busy. Our service was excellent considering the volume of people. Traditional Christmas fare all round from the festive menu was ample and good. Hogs Back TEA went down a treat. Remember to book and get there early for parking.

Beautiful pub, with above average food. Staff are friendly and helpful, though service is a tiny bit robotic when dining. Would be five stars but prices are steep and although the food is pretty good, it's not at the level of quality to justify the price point

We came here for a drink the other night and were lucky enough to get the seats in front of one of the biggest pub fire palces I've seen. Cheap beers and full of friendly locals.

Tonight we had a special family celebration at The Refectory with 16 of us. Despite there being a breakdown in the kitchen the whole team worked so hard to give us a wonderful meal, with great service in a lovely atmosphere. We had a very special evening. Thank you all so much for your hard work.

A lovely building and atmosphere with nice staff. Tasty food but the “sea vegetables” (served with the hake) were odd - they included “caper berries” complete with their stalks. No problem if it’s finger food, but these were within a sauce, and to take a mouthful of fish and veg, but to have to extract a stalk from your mouth is not pleasant. A similar issue with the samphire- tough stems. So wouldn’t recommend that dish.

It was surprisingly busy for a midweek lunch but maybe that is because it is so welcoming. We chose just starters to create a tapas meal and it was really tasty. The service was just right.

The best roast dinner in Surrey!

Great food in a relaxed atmosphere - definitely recommend the Sunday roast!

We booked a table for 1245pm Thursday 16th November 2023 and after 1hr and 5mins we were asked to leave the table and finish our drinks at the bar as the table was booked at 2pm. We are local and visited the pub several times but won't be setting foot in the place again.

Always been a regular here but had a couple of unfortunate experiences recently. The food is hit and miss and the menu is ever changing which isn’t ideal. The manager/owner is rude, obnoxious and unhelpful. No such thing as customer service with him, which is a shame for the staff. We had a rude encounter with him over a drink, where he made the wrong thing and when I reordered, as he didn’t know the drink he insisted on me spelling out the ingredients to him and then querying why it was called what it was, to then give me the bottles to make the drink myself. This was embarrassing and demeaning. He then told the member of staff off for not getting the order right, also uncomfortable. This isn’t the only time an incident like this has happened and for that reason we’ve decided not to return, cancelling our reservation for this weekend. A really shameful experience.

Great pub with high ceilings and lovely quintessential interior

As soon as we walked in the door, we felt the warm atmosphere here. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially our waiter. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name, but he had only worked at the Refrectory for a couple of weeks. Keep him on. He was great! We sat by the open fire, which was so snug. The food delicious. We weren't pestered by anyone and stayed for nearly 4 hours! Thank you! We would love to come back.

Set in the most amazing building this beautiful restaurant always serves wonderful food. The staff are friendly and you can collect vouchers. Once you have 6 you can have a main meal for £12 off.

Well worth a visit if in the area.

5* all round. Perfect pub with lovely food, drinks, atmosphere. Promoting the village/community feel, too with little touches like gin festivals, live music and even an organised dog walk and bacon sandwich on the first Saturday of the month!

Food was great, for me the meal wasn't cheap but it was worth the money. Service was quick and staff friendly. The building itself is beautiful and it's great they've kept original features, there's also lots of old photos of the building and local area hanging on the walls which were fascinating to see. The evening we ate there it was fairly quiet not sure if this is usual, but it did mean the service was very quick.

I met a friend for lunch and was really impressed by The Refectory. We received a warm welcome at the bar and were guided to our table by one of the staff. The open fire was a lovely touch as it was a bit cold outside. The interior of the dining area is absolutely stunning, plenty of character and comfy seats. We ordered our food and what arrived looked fantastic. The steak sandwich was delicious and cooked to perfection. I know we'll certainly return as we enjoyed such a lovely time.

It is very rare to have food quality, good service and a good price point all in one place but I feel the Refectory has done it. I had a lovely day today with family and it was all fantastic.

Went here for a Sunday roast but the food was just reheated - very 80s! Whole place smelt of beef too….service was sporadic at best. I’d go elsewhere next time

Staff were amazing! Kind, attentive, considerate. Can not recommend them highly enough. Food was delicious. We each had something different and we were all thrilled. The pork was particularly magnificent. The ambience is so lovely. The wood and exposed brick work, the stain glass. Play area for kids. Outdoor eating. Wow. Just wow!

Unassuming from the outside but upon entering I found myself transported back to the old times... old wooden beams, high vaulted ceilings, more old wooden beams and all the trappings of a tavern from a "yea olde pub". Service was excellent and the atmosphere was bustling. Short wait for a gourmet extravaganza - yes the food was sumptuous! I had my fill and headed off to find where I had tethered my steed with a mind to do something wooden beamy to my front room upon the morrow... parking was also plentiful. +5 HP

There are few places I'm willing to walk an hour out of my way for, but this is one of them.

I recently held my birthday party in the garden at The Refectory. Mitch and the team were fantastic in ensuring everything run smoothly and we were well looked after. Food and service were great and the atmosphere was fantastic. Everyone really enjoyed. Great venue supported by their regular band Cover Story ensured a good night was had by all.

Didn't eat there but it's a lovely place

Had a great Sunday lunch here today; the best I've had in a few years. Service is fantastic with plenty of pleasant, attentive staff to meet the busy demand. Wonderful building with lots of quirky nooks and crannies. Will definitely be back for another Sunday lunch soon and plan to try it out through the week too. Can't wait to try one of the brilliant desserts; was too full to have one today after having the great prawn and crab cocktail starter and the Sunday roast beef with cauliflower and cheese on the side.

We had a lovey meal here. The food was very tasty and nicely presented and i really like the mini desserts with a hot drink. We’re both vegetarian and there was a good variety to choose from. The interior of the pub has been beautifully decorated. Will definitely be back!

Good pub, lovely food and decent staff. My previous review was 4 star, but since they have reopened their prices have gone up to silly prices, the meals we had before they closed are around £3 more expensive per course - the free vouchers you get don't even cover a main meal any more lol. Spent a lot of time and money here and always took people there when visiting but won't go there anymore because it feels like they're just taking advantage now.

First visit. Very good all round. Will definitely be back
