Thank you again for such a fabulous and delicious lunch today with Alex and the team including Ashe, Ben and the rest of the crew. We loved all our choices, your attention to detail and knowledge - sounds like exciting plans ahead too - we will be back ...

Staff were brilliant. Food was amazing. Best pub roast I have had in a while. I do think it is a bit much to charge £3 for extra gravy when the roast was £56 for two people.

The pub is under new management and they are working hard to upgrade their offering. They have an exciting vision which will improve the ambience and the food is already at a new level. Definitely worth a visit.

Loved this authentic country bed & breakfast pub. Not only is their restaurant exceptionally creative and tasty but it is also made with local products from the region. The staff is lovely and very considerate to give you the best stay. The pub is also located in the middle of the Surrey hills, trail and hiking paths are immediately accessible from the pub, very easy. I highly recommend.

This pub has recently changed hands. Before the change, it was a very friendly 'local' pub. Since the change, things have changed, noticeably the staff. Previously the staff were friendly, approachable, fun to chat to and involved. Since the change, this is no longer the case. The staff are now a team. Interaction with customers is what is required so that it is what they do. There is no 'engagement' with customers. No fun. Little or no conversation outside what is required to serve drinks and food. interaction between staff and customers is transactional, not personal. Having spoken to one or two former staff, nearly all the old staff have left, it appears that they felt the same hence they left. Few, if any will notice any change. The place remains busy and the atmosphere is lively and the locals still populate the bar. The food is good. I doubt my friends and I will not be going there any more. It will remain popular, it's just lost its local pub atmosphere. pity.

While we are not local we have visited this lovely pub loads over the years with local friends. We booked for dinner and we’re pleased that the pub had not been remodelled - its a lovely pub and venue. Drinks came promptly and there was good service. That’s where the positivity ends I am afraid for us. We felt that the menu choices were limited - only 4 mains. Starters were expensive. Bread and butter for nearly £5! 3 poor pieces of pork scratchings for the same cost with the smallest bowl of apple sauce. I went for the steak at £27 and received 4 small pieces of very average steak and half a bowl of chips. Veg was extra. The veggie option was by all accounts tasty but smaller than my mother in laws voluvonts! Came home and had a proper meal. We were obviously in the minority as the place was full and people were enjoying themselves but in my book I come to a place to eat some good food and at least not have to eat again 20 minutes after leaving. Pretentious pub grub I am afraid and we will not be returning. My advice: eat before you go.

Amazing food enjoyed by one and all can’t wait to return next week thank you for bringing a fabulous restaurant to our area we loved it.

The new menu is fantastic, went with family and had the Wagyu steak.

The food was very impressive, but service slow, staff not attentive and clustered around the central service area, we had to ask for culturally 2/3 times and the bill twice. It’s beautiful country pub but has a limit restaurant area, Dogs are welcome but it seemed every table had a dog underneath, I would understand this in the bar area but in the restaurant the barking and dogs moving around at best annoying and worst noisy, dirty and dangerous given the limited space with food being served. We also walked in to a pile of dog mess as we went to use the garden with my young sons finding it by the play area. Disappointing experience for what is a really good concept with impressive food

I've rated 5 stars as my wife and I had a lovely meal Saturday before last. Very welcoming, excellent staff and pretty good food and wine! We are fussy, and we didn't have a bad thing to say about our first visit under the new management. Being local and an occasional patron to the MH over many, many years, in the last 10 or so years, we have not enjoyed our food or drink here. Now, with the new 'Hill Top cafe' management, I must say that we are glad we went and will visit again.

Although the food was very good (despite the somewhat limited menu) and the atmosphere, fireplace and walks nearby were lovely , they lose a star for service. It took over an hour to get the first food to the table despite being a relatively quiet Saturday lunchtime. Problematic, as i had injected insulin when the food was ordered expecting ‘normal’ restaurant service levels. After 50 mins we were told there was some kind of mix up. I did submit the feedback on their survey form sent after the meal, but they never contacted me. To the restaurant: I know a lot of restaurants like to say “oh, so sorry, please contact us” so as to display their focus on customer service - no need here, I already have and you’ve not replied. Funnily enough, despite this, we will probably be back!

I booked a night in one of the Shepherds Huts for my wifes 50th, we took our two Basset Hounds with us and all I can say is Wow! I booked dinner in the pub in the evening which too was superb! The Huts are amazing, well kitted out and there are some lovely added touches. There were marsmallows, a bottle of wine, hot choc,kitkats and crisps in a welcome pack. The Hut was so cozy with underfloor heating, a log fire dressing gowns and also a firepit outside where we toasted our marshmallows. The staff are fantastic, friendly and the pub is very dog friendly. You must try the scotch Egg! The breakfast is also fantastic! Freshly cooked and the bread and butter is out of this world! Lovely location, great Huts, worth coming to stay. We will be back! Amazing!!

Stayed in a Garden Room this Saturday as a convenient stopover near a friend's party - will return to give the delicious-looking menu a proper work-through! A lovely experience all round, with great customer service, tasty breakfasts and a really comfy bed.

In an echo of previous reviews I was most unhappy with the portion sizes in this restaurant which were appalling small for the price. I had the vegetarian tart which was so tiny it would have been insufficient as a starter. It came alone, with no accompaniment . Service reassured us it would be enough (Perhaps a lot of their clientele are mice?) We found the menu painfully thin on choice, irritatingly so in fact and I'm pretty sure that none of us got exactly the dish that was described on the menu. The service was scatty, absent and jumped down the stairs a lot (which we sat near) which was distracting. We found that it did not live up to the Hilltop Kitchen experience (their other venue) which has been very, very good. Hmm... terribly expensive... terribly small portions... all slightly erratic, oh and my wine was pretty much paint stripper. What food we had was very good, it's just that the experience on the whole was not good enough for the price.

Four of us booked for dinner on New Years Eve , we have not been there before and we’re looking forward to trying a new local venue. Very nice atmosphere and welcoming staff . We ordered the prawn cocktail as a starter at a cost of £13 , not exaggerating when I say it was one prawn and a strip of Salmon, next we ordered the roast beef at a cost of £27 each , it was so tough we had to send it back, they handled the complaint very well and produced another plate of beef that was up to the mark, however £27 for three thin strips of beef was breathtakingly expensive .The sticky Toffee Pudding was the highlight of the meal. We enjoyed our evening however when you are going to charge £280 including 1 bottle wine 2 low alcohol beers 2 cocktails, the cost in our opinion was above West End prices , We expect a lot better, we were the last cover of the evening , maybe they had run out of prawns and beef. We felt we were grossly overcharged for what we had.

By far the best pub food we have had in a very long time! Great service, lovely menu and great atmosphere! Eat well, eat local, eat Seasonally! Can’t recommend enough!

Most excellent food, service and value A modern twist on a great traditional English country pub complete with log fire. Interesting modern menu beautifully presented. Will be going again soon with friends to show them our new culinary discovery.

i was very dissapointed in the potatos i got served when i got served my potatos i seemed to have a bite mark in my potato, i look over the counter and see a young boy dribbling staring at my potatos. Oh my i thought Scott was rly bad at being good, GOOD SERVICE FROM HIM

We visited for Sunday lunch and it was wonderful. A warm greeting, shown to our pretty table complete with candelabra. Drinks and food orders were perfectly timed. My husband and friend enjoyed their special of lamb rump which was nicely presented. If you are a Yorkshire pudding fan, this place is for you ; they are enormous! The plum and avocado salad was delicious and fish and chips had a thumbs up. Drinks good too. Staff were exclusively (front of house) young. They were all incredibly competent, professional and attentive. We will be back.

Saw the pub on a TV programme, and 20 mins away so worth a go. Booked at 2pm on a sat, it looked closed from road, but wasn't, just looks l tired and needs more kerb appeal. 1 other table. Had a 2 course meal, hair in husbands Guinness and an ant on his plate+! Not a good start! Starters , baked camebert to share was lovely . Recommended. 3 mains were burger. Home made and lovely,, fish and chips, which was amazing, lovely taste to batter, and homemade tartar sauce. I had ham egg and chips, probably worst, eggs over cooked, solid, and ham wasn't very tasty, plate full of salad and dressing which engulfed the plate. I didn't enjoy the Ham , egg & chips. Quite a small menu , on a Saturday lunchtime, not sure what is on for an evening. Quite reasonable with drinks, £89 for 2 courses , 2 drink each for 3 people. Didn't get to see Llamas ,as right at end of pub garden and in a far field, so a shame. Saw shepherd's huts off the carpark, but I feel very expensive to stay £190 pn

Met with friends to take the dogs on a walk, and then Sunday lunch. Great garden for a bit of alfresco. Didn't stay there, but had some really cool looking accommodation across the road (very quiet location). Food good, and staff very helpful.

Last Friday I took my godchildren to the Merry Harriers for a ‘Meet and Greet’ with the Llamas which Liv had kindly arranged. There was a bit of miscommunication about the timings but Clara, one of the trekkers came specially. The kids were thrilled to be able to feed the Llamas and be amongst them, they thoroughly enjoyed it, we all did. I plan to take them back for a trek, they would enjoy that. They also enjoyed the huge chess board, swings and seesaw. It was well worth it despite battling the M25 Friday traffic. We had a very enjoyable lunch, served by two very able girls who were very efficient. The lady who welcomed us told us about some walks we walked to St Peter’s Church up the hill afterwards. We stopped in the Church and I said a prayer for my late Partner who sadly passed away some months ago and the kids also prayed for their beloved Uncle Steve who was with us in spirit.

Having met Peter de Savary on a few occasions, he will not rest easy. Lunch today was a disaster. Not only was the food poor quality, the staff, we were on s table that all passed by regularly, did not come near, 30mins passed with 2 plates of food practically untouched. Even when we wanted the bill, we had to get up to ask, nobody asked whether everything was OK. When presented with the bill at the table, we asked, Do you want to ask us any questions, answer no ?? There is no hope. This is not a place to eat for disearning eaters.

Received a nice welcome and shown to our table, so far so good. Quite a dull wine list. Food arrived in a pile them high fashion. Swamped in diluted gravy. My chicken and carrots were OK. My partners pork offering was quite tasteless and tough. The table was not cleared, and I had to ask for the bill as the staff were avoiding us. Asked the lady if she had any questions for us, as we still had half eaten plates, she said no! Very dissapointing, and won't be returning. No enquiry, or apologie. NOTHING MERRY AT THIS HARRIERS FOR US

We stayed in a Garden Room for 2 nights over a weekend, while visiting my son and family in Godalming. The room was nicely decorated and furnished, and the shower room was new with all the usual modern facilities. The Garden Rooms are not large, but very adequate for a short stay. They are situated behind the main Pub building, screened from the Garden by a large laurel hedge, so no problem with noise. The Llama field is just up the path, so you can check them out each morning! Breakfasts (in the Pub) were very nice, and they were able to cater for my wife's gluten & dairy problems. As we were visiting my son, we did not sample lunch or dinner, and arrived back each day too late for the Bar. However the Pub is a wonderful old inn and looks superb. All staff were cheerful and helpful. We did not get time for a Llama Trek!! Highly recommended for a weekend stay. Thank you very much.

Pub closed over 1hr earlier than advertised closing at 9pm. Staff were incredibly short bordering on rude from the off. Having travelled there with friends we only had a single drink before getting locked out. Made to feel very unwelcome and won’t be going back...

Fantastic stay, so very very helpful and efficient. Wonderful stay in the Llama room to wake up and literally see Llamas out of the French doors - a must for the experience. Great supply of tea, coffee, hot chocolate AND marshmallows for toasting on the fire pit on the beautifully lit patio area outside the room! What's not to like, we will definitely return. Drove for an hour to get to this pub today on a recommendation, and went and did one of the walks mentioned on their website. Arrived back to the pub to be told there was a two and a half hour wait for food. The pub was empty at this time, and there was only a couple of us. I am surprised that they do not make provisions for walk ins for eating. Very disappointed and am very reluctant to try again, which is a shame as it was a stunning setting.

Excellent county pub with great food and a good selection of drinks. We stayed in one of the shepherd's huts which was fantastic, they're spacious, warm and really well fitted out. Had a very enjoyable stay!

We have just returned home after spending Christmas at the Merry Harriers in one of their 5***** Shepherd huts.I titled this review “Christmas gift “ as the Merry Harriers, the staff and the senior Managers just keep giving, nothing is too much trouble... their attention to detail is second to none.The Shepherds huts have everything you need including a little fridge, tv, bathroom, great bed lots of goodies, coffee machine just perfect as are the garden rooms that we stayed in previously.The Inn itself is chic, rustic and super friendly. The restaurant is super every bit of food served was top quality and cooked perfectly.I have saved the best till last......Everybody is super doggy friendly, they provide dog beds, bowls they even have a doggy menu that the chef will cook fresh for your pooch. We just cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you to all the staff for making our Christmas feel so indulgent and our dog Bilbo feel so welcome ❤️

I have just arrived home after having spent three days with the Merry Harriers over Christmas and what a relaxing time I’ve had. I have been surrounded by helpful, friendly staff, comfortable surroundings, good food and glorious open countryside. I’m now totally relaxed and ready to face the new year. Thank you.

Saw a good review of the Sunday roast in the i newspaper, googled the pictures of what was on offer and booked a two night stay. Travelled 110 miles from Essex and had that sinking feeling as I pulled into the car park. The property looks tired and run down on the outside and the theme is carried on throughout the bar/dining areas. Food on offer was limited, allegedly to the introduction of the xmas menu.What was available came out of a freezer, not pleasant to eat and extremely pricey. Breakfast , three items on a plate, smoked salmon, scrambled egg and toast. Can not possibly go wrong?, yes it can. Eggs cold, tasteless and overcooked (had all the pleasantness/look of powdered egg?), salmon icy cold from the freezer and two miniscule pieces of bread masquerading as toast. My wife and I certainly did not enjoy anything that the Harriers would like to call hospitality. Cancelled the second nights stay and the llama walk.

I’ve just returned from a fantastic stay in one of the Merry Harriers Shepherds Huts. The hut itself was beautiful, with so many little details that made it feel like home. We were then treated to a Llama trek which again was just incredible and an amazing experience. Thank you to Clara for being a great lead trekker and Mikey and the rest of the hospitality team who looked after us during our stay. Will be back soon.

Great pub for a refresh after visiting Hydons Ball

Amazing stay for a night or weekend! These shepherds huts aren’t the simple/basic things we expected, they’re spacious, luxurious and have such great facilities! The bed is extremely comfortable, and the shower room/WC is like one you’d find in a hotel! There were also thick, super comfy bath robes left for us. We arrived to a bottle of fizz ready in our hut, with two mugs with luxury hot chocolate ready to have by the fire pit outside (every hut has its own fire pit). There were chocolate biscuits and marshmallows to roast by the fire, with all the firewood you need. Food at the pub’s restaurant was second to none and one of the best meal’s we’ve had for ages. This was an incredibly wholesome, relaxing weekend escape where you really get the opportunity to switch off and enjoy the lovely, quiet surroundings and enjoy some brilliant food in a luxurious shepherds hut.

Had the most amazing day starting with a llama trek in the pouring rain but Diesel and Georgio (not his real name) behaved impeccably under the professional supervision of Head trekker Clara and her assistant Cecile After some well deserved gin tasting at the neighbouring Vann Lane gin distillery we were in for a yummy treat at the Merry Harriers pub. Most of my guests went for the curry, speciality of head chef Nik, and a couple had the prawn and crab linguini, equally tastyI should also mention the friendliness and great service of the waiting staff, Olli, Kathy, Johnny, Milly and last but not least manager Mikey (note how all names end in y!!) for organising the most amazing birthday party and making it go so smoothly. A big big thank you to all of you One more person to thank, cake maker Peter, what a amazing cake ⭐⭐⭐ See you all next year ❤

Good parking. Quiet at first but gets very busy later. Meal very nice and yummy desserts. Staff polite and efficient.

We have recently moved locally and we visited the Merry Harriers on the way back from a meal at our old local 40 minutes away. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in by the staff, locals and dogs. Great variety of drinks especially the local gins. Never had Black Rat cider before, it was great. Millie the bar supervisor is amazing, she has an amazing attention to detail. Mikey the Manager came to welcome us and bought us a drink, thank you so much. We ended up having drinks with most of the pub outside. Highly recommend the Vann Lane gins which are distilled two doors away.

Popped in on the way back from a long cycle ride to Haslemere. Tranquil, peaceful and refreshing pint of Camden Pale ale. Superb service. Everything you'd expect from a well-kept country pub.

Fancying a short break with a difference, llama trekking in Surrey seemed perfect. Arriving with no expectations, we left vowing to return soon for more time with the three-tummied mammals, but also for the amazing hospitality and heavenly food at The Merry Harriers. Our cosy garden room was spotless, with the added bonus of overlooking a field of 11 playful llamas from babies to 16-year-olds. A sight I challenge anyone to beat when you pull back your curtains in the morning.Pack your walking shoes for the 2.5 hour trek, which is an absolute treat. We took Diesel and his son Lorenzo out, guided by the brilliant Clara and Tash, whose praises I cannot sing enough. Kind, caring and passionate, they made the trek even more fun as they shared their local and llama knowledge, and took pics of us with our peckish pals. Those three stomachs need filling!Back at the The Merry Harriers I somehow found room for chicken and leek pie for lunch, then beetroot carpaccio followed by a towering burger for dinner, served with an infectious smile by the utterly delightful Remi. The pie was so incredibly delicious there was no way I was bypassing the burger, which had come highly recommended by Tash. It hit every spot, though I could have done with a spare belly (or three) by the end.I wish I’d asked for everyone’s names, as every single member of staff there is exemplary.Get booking! It is one of the best weekends away I have ever had, and I will most definitely be back.

My wife booked us a stay at the Merry Harriers staying in one of their shepherds huts. Now i would be lying if i wasnt a little concerned ... a shepards hut ???? But honestly this will go down as one of my all time favourite trips away...We decided not to drive and travel by train to wittley which then means a short walk to the pub around 15/20 mins.Arriving at the pub we were met by what i can only say as the best and most friendly members of staff i have ever come across..Tbey were all so helpful and nothing was too much.Then came the shepherds hut we were shown over by one of the team and honestly if tbis is glamping sign me up every year as the accommodation was amazing you could ask for more... .We were given information about local walks which isnt really our thing but when in Rome... just an amazing part of the country if your into country walks this wont dissapoint.We decided to book a meal at the Merry Harriers and honestly it has to be some of the best food we have had.. so nuch so we asked to thank the chef personally. Nick was good to talk to and was real passionate about the food he was producing and honestly my wife whom loves a roast said it was the best roast outside her own kicthen she had eaten... We then settled in for a few drinks and got talking to Mikey the manager .. what a top bloke a real gent who was happy to talk with us and fill us in on the history of the Harriers which was actually really interesting. I cant fault the place food and stay were just top quality and will certainly be returning.Have to put a special mention to Ffion who was amazing helping us in the morning with breakfast and sorting us transport back to the train station. She is an amzing representation of the Harriers team super helpful, caring , and super friendly...Canot fault this place and loved it so much we are already planning to return..This place is top dollar and 100% reccomend to allThank you to all the team.

We have just returned from a stay in the shepherds huts at the Merry Harriers and what a fabulous time we had. The huts are beautiful with everything you could possibly want or need. The staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them - they must walk miles a day in and out serving drinks and meals and always smiling . We did the Llama trek and absolutely loved it - such a different experience and we loved our Llama Mongo he was quite a character. Thanks to all the staff for making our trip a memorable one x

The garden rooms, location and Llamas were brilliant! The dogs loved the walks in the area as well. The only thing that let them down was the food, I think it can be better for the price. Otherwise would definitely be back and would recommend it for a weekend away.

Second time back in the last few weeks food is fairly average l had the curry but found it a bit gritty there must of had grit in the spinach l mentioned it to the lady serving but l never heard back from her

Had a light lunch there earlier in the week and it was a more than satisfactory experience. Taken to our table by a friendly guy ; tasty food ,ham hock terrine and smoked salmon sandwich ,good beer ,very friendly waitress. A well run pub with diversified income streams indicates to me a go ahead owner/manager.

As a local we enjoy walking in this area and decided to stop off for lunch after booking a table that day. The food was very good, and the service by the female waitress friendly and efficient, it wasn’t until we asked to pay that there was a problem. The male waiter said unfortunately we couldn’t pay by card as the machine was broken, so we offered to pay cash, but were told they had no cash on site to give us our change ? When we queried this, he seemed very unhappy and confirmed again that no cash was kept on site. We then offered to pay via BACS but were told we couldn’t pay this was either and the only choice was to give your details and they would call us later to pay later over the phone......saying we weren't happy about this the waiter suggested we either order another drink or a coffee and hopefully the machine would be fixed. We decided on a coffee each and suggested it was complimentary which the waiter reluctantly agreed on.Some 10 mins later the waiter returned, having magically found the exact amount of change for the cash we had.....and slammed it down on the table, when we thanked him for sorting this out, and left a tip! he rudely glared at us not evening thanking us for our custom or even saying good bye.I know it’s difficult to get staff at the moment in the hospitality industry but surely you can ensure that your staff are trained and polite to customers, and especially when they tip them! What a rude young man he was ! I’m sorry but we won’t be returning too many other excellent local pubs who appreciate our support and custom.

We stayed here over night and we were not disappointed. We stayed in a shepherds hut, which was nicer than some 5 star hotels we have stayed in. We are vegan and they went out of their way to ensure we had great food. ALL the staff were brilliant and nothing was too much bother. Cant wait to go again some day.

I know pubs have had a hard time of it and the latest covid operating requirements are difficult but when 4 of us turned up at 8.35pm this evening for a ( first post lockdown ) beer after a game of tennis to be told in a pretty brusque manner ‘ I’m sorry we’ve just closed ‘ ( there were still 16 cars in the car park ....) you’d think that just maybe the merry harriers could try a little bit harder....

Very tasty roast beef and pork Sunday lunches. Great braised red cabbage and cheesey cauliflower and Yorkshires we just can't make at home. And the dog got beef too!

found the pub on trip advisor as a one night stop on my way home. the staff were really friendly and helpful, the pub welcoming with great food and the rooms really lovely. I did have a hiccup with the heating in my room not working which should have been dealt with a bit faster, but the staff were really busy on a Friday night and eventually gave me a new room which was lovely. I might have knocked off half a star, but given the quality and helpfulness of everything else it would have been churlish when they were genuinely trying their very hardest to make everyone happy. given the prices im used to paying for a night i thought the quality of the room and the food and breakfast were excellent value. if I ever need to be in that area again I will definitely stay again.

Pub has been through a bit of a chequered history but latterly what a change.... staff are well trained, courteous and friendly. Food has gone up several notches (not cheap and not overly expensive either but tastes great). Cosy, lovely place to pop in or spend a lazy lunchtime. Managing social distancing very well. The new local for sure.

Really good lunch here. Good social distancing and protective measures, nice menu and great to find a genuinely unfussy pub that does what it says on the tin.

We only live locally but a stay in the Shepherds huts has been on my bucket list since they arrived. It truly did not dissapointed at all with everything wanted for a comfortable stay.A lovely lunch followed by a relaxing afternoon with the log burner listening to the rain on the roof (they are well insulated for its only ever a gentle sound?).Dinner was in our social group of 6 and I can recommend the blue cheese sauce with the steak. Sadly an early night due to the 10pm close or we would have stayed on until later. Breakfast was yummy and just what was needed with the dogs being spoilt with doggy dinners and sausages and made to feel as welcome as the humans.If you want a great short break and staycaction Jake and the team will make it feel like you have had a much longer holiday by the time you leave.

Even in Covid times, a warm welcome, nice dinner, and, stars of the show (sorry, fellow humans) were Diesel and Champagne, the two llamas who kindly allowed us to accompany them on their 2h trek

We had a wonderful visit to the Merry Harriers. We stayed in one of the garden rooms which was very comfortable and clean and homely. The llamas were right outside in the field next door - they are very friendly and cute characters! The service was expectional and everything felt very covid safe. Would definitely come back for another visit and would recommend the harriers for anyone looking for a countryside break

Stayed 3 nights in one of the 5 excellent Shepherd's Huts and enjoyed a hilarious llama trek in beautiful forest setting. The 8 llamas all have very different characters and are almost always visible in the sloping fields behind the pub and garden rooms. The llama trek is the main attraction (no other attractions nearby) and it's unbeatable. Champagne the sandy coloured 2-year-old was very well behaved compared to cheeky Louis, skittish little Lorenzo and stubborn but gorgeous Mungo. Don't leave the Merry Harriers without doing a trek!The team were very accommodating and laid back, with good distancing and one way system....and the pub food was good, although fairly limited menu because of current climate - only noticeable if you stay 3 nights though! Thoroughly recommend the whole experience as a delightful rural retreat close to Guildford and Greater London.

Just wanted to thank the staff of the Merry Harriers, particularly the Chef at breakfast time, for making my doggie stay here so pleasurable. Far from being in the doghouse, I was a welcome guest and even had a delicious doggie dinner and a very special complimentary sausage breakfast. I would wholeheartedly recommend this establishment, set in fabulous dog walking countryside, as somewhere lovely for a staycation with one’s canine companion.

Great place to stay for peace and quiet, staff really good nothing was too much trouble, beer food and accomodation (stayed in shepherds hut!!) were perfect

We went to celebrate my mother's 80 birthday. We have 4 rooms dinner and went on a Champagne llama treck picnic . What a great place , service, food and lovely staff .Special thanks to our two Llama trackers they were amazing and so attentive to make sure we had an amazing time. Picnic was amazing also , all fresh and high quality , well done the chefs . Beautiful area to visit with some amazing walls and views. Thank you for such a special time .

We were so impressed with everything the Merry Harriers offered from the staff, accommodation and food and there whole ethos for dogs.We stayed in a garden room which is just the sweetest, very comfortable and clean, what I would say is the path outside the garden rooms should continue down to the front of the Inn as it was a little scary going over loose shingle with a case, bag and dog Traveling with a dog and trying to find a place that is holistically dog friendly has been a test at times but here nothing is off bounds to the pooch including the restaurant that serves breakfast and other meals.We loved it all so much we have booked to return at Christmas.Thank you sooo much guys and see you soon x Julie & Sally and of course Bilbo ❤️

Lovely outside space and good food and drink.

Had a lovely stay at theMerry Harriers on the Lama package Staying in one of the garden rooms on a one night stay.The main thing about this establishment is the staff , they are exceptional- Richard, Clara and Mia to name a few but they were all wonderful, nothing was too much trouble.We will definitely return, thank you for making our stay so friendly and accommodating., it makes such a difference.

No problem with food or staff behind bar. However the manager owner was not polite when we got there and said we could not use the gourmet society card as it was a Saturday - it states on the Society website that you can . Could not check before booking online as they did not answer the phone. We paid full price but the meal was ruined by the attitude of the gentleman involved.

Just had the loveliest experience here. The Llama trek was so fun, the guides super friendly and informative. Food was delicious and bar staff were fantastic. Thank you so much for a memorable experience I can’t recommend enough.

Stopped for a (booked) supper en route home from holiday. Beautiful, quiet location. Very friendly staff, fast service and delicious food.

Always a great place to eat and relax. Joined the eat out to help out brigade and had the fish platter for 3 last night. More than we could eat and came with a glass of rose bubbles each too which we didn't expect. Very cv19 aware staff Lots of space and the team on hand to help out with anything needed. Already rebooked to go again.

We did not stay. These comments only apply to venue as a lunch stop. Large garden provides plenty of socially distanced space. We were 4. My slow roast pork belly was excellent. A scampi was rated good. The other 2 ordered white bread sandwiches despite being offered ciabatta. They then moaned that the white bread was as you'd expect white bread to be and claimed their fillings lacked flavour and seasoning. So the conclusion seems to be, good lunch stop but avoid the white bread.

Pretty pub in very picturesque setting. We live locally and was our first visit for many years. We sat in the garden at back with our 2 year old near to play area, swings & see-saw, when the pub dog came and did his business right in front of the swings and in the vicinity where the children play. Dog poo & children is not good. Especially wiith all the hygiene precautions we're taking to avoid Covid 19 at the moment, not a good advert for a pub.. We had to go and tell the staff and about 30 mins later they came and removed it but to say we were put off out burgers is an understatement. We were telling other parents and children to avoid where the dog had poo'd. Dogs & poo with small children don't mix well in a pub garden. It made us feel it was very unhealthy. The staff didn't seem very bothered and didn't even try and wash to grass area away so very unhygenic. Also quite a smell from the sewage system.

Re-opened again at last. Few pubs have it all. New Chef Menu Kitchen, Sunday entertainment, local walks, Gipsy caravans, llamas, dedicated keen management, I loved the fish and chips, thoughtfully on hot plates which is essential if you eat outside. Compliance with pandemic issues carefully observed, plenty of space. Jake the ever vigilant Manager is always there - no wonder it is a favourite of the friendly Hambledon Village locals. Sunset "golden" time great for photos. Bar staff knows their beers. I recommend the Shere.

The Merry Harriers was very busy when we ate there last night but all items on the menu were available, service was attentive and the food arrived quickly. Our burgers were excellent and the ham, egg and chips got the thumbs up too. Well done team!

Our favorite "local" country pub, from our choice of four "walkables".. A lovely 2 mile country walk, where the dog gets a good chance to hoon around with no roads..Staff are very attentive, and always keen..The weekend charity meat draw gets really busy, and is always a great way to have sa couple of beers while waiting for your numbers to be drawn!Food is fab... Beer is great, and plenty of "fruit based alcoholic beverages" for the ladies! (That's wine for the uninitiated!!):-)Very dog friendly, and there is even a doggie dinner on the menu!!

We’ve just enjoyed a delicious lunch ...... sausages and mash and ham egg and chips. Beautifully served, nice and hot and very flavoursome. Friendly staff - very welcoming.

Amazing, as always. Lovely friendly and attentive staff, cosy local pub atmosphere. Delicious food, and the Saturday Eve meat raffle is always fun. Highly recommended!

This attractive pub has now been under new management for approximately 5 months, during which time the choices of both beer and food have been drastically reduced . It used to be a real delight to squeeze into the crowded bar, and receive a welcome smile from the landlady, a drink from wide selection, and extremely well produced varied menu. No longer! Can't even get a pint glass with a handle either despite being told by the bar manager that he's going to get some. Shame ----It used to be worth a long journey to visit-----no Longer

After an exhausting work trip abroad, sank into the Harriers after an overnight flight. Just somewhere to be, where you feel welcome, wanted and well fed. No more words needed

Booked a table for 6 for my parents who were visiting for the weekend. A special treat for the kids and their grandparents. Booked 3 days prior. I received a one-line email at 10pm the night before telling me they had double-booked and I could no longer have the table. It was too late to book another pub for 6 at such short notice. I responded and asked them to contact me but they didn't. Feel let down and won't recommend them for this reason.

the pub is a delightful pub in the countryside. The food is delicious but service can be a bit slow. Unfortunately, although our reservation was at 12.15, the pub had 'run out of' their only vegetarian option and with 2 vegetarians in the party, it proved a bit difficult. They ended up with a brie sandwich for their Sunday lunch. The area we sat in was very cold with little heating although fires could have been lit.The staff accommodated us very well over all but as vegetarianism is becoming more and more popular perhaps they could have more than one vegetarian option or make sure they have plenty of it for lunchtime.
