Had lunch here yesterday - definitely cheered us up on a wet Tuesday. We were made to feel very welcome and service was prompt and efficient. My husband had White bait and omlette and I had pear and walnut salad and a minute steak. All were delicious and served piping hot. The sauce with the steak was lovely and the chips crisp and fluffy. It well hidden away but worth driving to, will certainly visit again and recommend.

Popped in with our 10 & 11 year old football team to celebrate their win and couldn’t of been made to feel more uncomfortable and unwelcome. Would not recommend unless you are going to drink in absolute silence to please them. Clearly not use to any form of normal noise in there. The barmaid stood with the most disgusted look on her face the whole visit and the rest of the staff quickly disappeared ! Kids make noise and this pub is not a kid friendly pub. Would not spend a single penny there again ! AVOID if you want to have any form of a decent time !

Our walking group stopped here for lunch on a very soggy October day. The welcome could not have been friendlier. It was obvious that tables had been moved to create space as a Covid-19 precaution, there were warning notices everywhere about behaviour, and the barmaid was properly masked. She showed us to our table, and explained the procedure for ordering. At our request she listed the beers and cider stocked, and very quickly fulfilled our thirst requirements. She even anticipated our need for second drinks, and of course, had remembered our order. Our food was delivered all together, was obviously freshly cooked, very generously portioned, and absolutely delicious. We'll definitely be back!

After months of social isolation due to lockdown, three of us wanted to meet up for a much needed catch up. Our friend who lives in the little village of Tongham suggested we meet at hers and walk down to this great pub she knew for a leisurely lunch and chat. That’s how I ended up at the Barley Mow! I was expecting a decent lunch but actually got an excellent one! It’s very rare that I would have three courses, but everything was so good I actually did. The lead-in was perfectly breaded brie. Then, the wagyu burger was on the specials board and it was calling my name! And the best part is they don’t skimp on the chips. And I totally recommend you save space for dessert! The chocolate brownie with ice cream is not to be missed. Also worth noting the owners have made a great effort to make the dining area covid safe and they deserve a lot of credit for that. Thanks for the excellent experience

My wife had a fantastic lunch this week at the Barley Mow at the Sands - Farnham, so we went right back for Saturday lunch as a good recommendation is hard to find if you like good food. I ordered the dressed crab for £17 and was very hopeful. However though the crab was very nice - served in the shell and a decent portion, the coleslaw was from a tub and had synthetic written all over it, the opposite of what should accompany a dressed crab. No dressing French or otherwise was supplied and instead we got a basket of packaged sauces which were not good. I asked for salad dressing and was given something that had gone off in the heat and when I took it back was given some vegetable oil and malt vinegar.Small things make all the difference when it comes to returning for another visit, so hopefully it will be better next time, but I’ll go for something cheaper and safer as the menu has a lot to choose from. The beer at the pub is delicious, so this place is worth a go.

With my walking group, we planned to eat here at lunch time today. On arrival, we found that despite this being a country pub, dogs were not allowed. Yes we should have checked beforehand.... but most country pubs allow dogs these days because walking is a very popular pastime, with a break in a pub halfway through. I would suggest that excluding a group from the pub is a risky decision bearing in mind the plight of the public house these days. There was no one else in the pub but the staff were not willing to make an exception for our well behaved mutt, he could have sat quietly in the corner, and no one would have known he was there. Disappointing bearing in mind it was raining and we had walked 8 miles to get there. We had the choice of leaving the dog outside in the rain, eating outside at a cold damp table with him or moving on. We went instead to the Donkey in Tilford, about a mile walk away and enjoyed a warm comfortable delicious lunch, and the dog was made very welcome.

As longer distance "locals", 11 mile commute, there must be something to recommend! My idea of a perfect country pub, small enough to feel snug and friendly, good beer and terrific food. Whats the explanation? Incredible consistency with George and Abs having done most of the cooking for years and one of them nearly always present in the bar. In over 12 years we (and a lot of friends) have never been served a duff dinner. Always piping hot, freshly cooked and that consistent quality. Great for fresh fish and clearly choosy over their butcher. Go for a walk up nearby Crooksbury hill, a hidden gem, and then a great roast sunday lunch, thanks again Abs and George.

The Barley Mow is possibly my wife's and my favourite pub in the area and we are so pleased that it is up and running again after the kitchen fire at the end of August 2018. We visited again as soon as we could after it reopened for food and enjoyed our usual friendly chat with Jo, the ever-helpful bar-person and had a tasty sandwich lunch (King Prawns in Marie-Rose sauce on brown bread, sharing a side of very delicious chips). The light extra salad served with the sandwiches is a real plus, especially as it always tastes so fresh and it isn't loaded with oils or dressings (which can ruin salads for me). I also splashed out for a dessert this visit - Lemon Meringue cheesecake with a double scoop of vanilla ice-cream which I (reluctantly!) shared with my wife. Accompanied by a refreshing half-pint of very well-kept beer, what more can a man (or woman!) ask or expect of a pub lunch! From personal experience, the Mains aren't too shabby either - so this one is well worth a visit (often!).

There was a good sized portion of vegetables that was more than adequate for the three of us, no stinting here! The service was first rate and as customers we could want for nothing. When I made the booking I was asked if we wanted the bar or the restaurant and as it was Easter Sunday I opted for the restaurant. It turned out that the menu is the same for both sections but the restaurant area is quieter, has white tablecloths on the table and a full waitress service. There was no difference in the price wherever you ate and so it depended upon whether you wanted the quiet area or not.

It is a firm favourite with the whole family (all ages!) and I also enjoy a lunch there in the week when I occasionally get the opportunity, Interesting choice of fish often available and game when in season. My first visit was in the early 1970s - say no more!

Situated on a quiet country lane, this is a great place for well cooked traditional pub food. The menu is extensive and the portions are generous.

As a family we have eaten at the pub on many occasions, its welcoming and friendly but in addition to that the food is excellent. We celebrated both our sons christening's here with over 60 guests and they provided us with wonderful food and super service, we have now booked our sons holy communion celebrations here and very much looking forward to another wonderful day.

My husband and I had not been to the Barlow Mow for a while. We are glad we have put this back on the map. We both chose from the menu something which we do not have at home - Liver & Bacon and Moules ... we thoroughly enjoyed and will be back for more !

We enjoyed our food in this quiet pub, where we had Sunday lunch halfway through a ten mile walk in the North Downs area. My partner had beef cheeks with mash potato. Good size portion, very authentic mash (not too smooth) and very tender meat. I had a leek soup - again a good big bowl with fresh warm ciabatta. The food was piping hot, which is important on a cold February day. All the portions look big. The style is hearty and big size rather than gastropub though some of the dishes are on the expensive side. The dessert was a very good warm choc. brownie. We had eaten the whole meal in an hour so were quite happy. I would recommend this as an unpretentious pub.

Went to the Barley Mow after a recommendation from a work mate last sunday. Well wot a pleasant discovery, a proper pub not run by a chain but run by a two people who could not be more helpful and pleasant. My wife and myself both had three courses so we were able to have a good all round view. All the food seemed to be proper home made, the roasts potatoes were fluffy and chrisp not pre frozen like many places, meat so tender and the gravy made with meat juices. The desserts were also home made and plentiful. They also seem to specialize in fish although apart from a smoked salmon starter my wife had we did not try any. Cant wait to visit again thank you THE BARLEY MOW.

We're so spoiled having this simple, unpretentious pub within walking distance. Get home after a hard day, flop in the pub and let George & Abby feed us. It was a delightful haddock mornay on mash the other night. Simple, tasty, nicely done.
