Lovely pub, great decor, fantastic chef and amazing food. We had dinner- mains and desserts. Food was delicious, beautifully presented and would definitely recommend this pub.

Service was excellent for the most part. I asked the waitress if it was permissible to have vegetables instead of tomato salad with the sea bream. She acquiesced and appeared to write this down. The sea bream arrived - with tomato salad! The sea bream was nothing special either. I would return as it’s a lovely venue in an ideal location but I would order something simpler like a burger.

Just returned from a fabulous lunch at The Barley Mow. Excellent friendly service and such attention to detail from both the server and the kitchen - in a party of 7 we had a coeliac (gluten free) and a dairy free (intolerance). A lovely choice for all on the menu and a confidence that they understood our needs. Highly recommend this pub.

Having visited this pub for Sunday lunch on many occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the food we were very disappointed at the drop in standard today when we visited. Normally an excellent roast with good tender meat and plenty of fresh vegetables the lunch today was way below previous experience. My roast beef was tough and overdone and the vegetables, where previously served separately, were a shredded mess under the meat and potatoes. The whole meal was distinctly average and for £21 per head a sad shadow of meals previously. I understand the pub has been taken over recently and a new chef is in place. Unfortunately, the food, and in today’s case the service too, was much to be desired. I will be finding a better venue for my Sunday roast in the future.

We drove from Edenbridge, just to visit the Barley Mow pub. The worst customer service I have experienced for donkeys years. Went into the pub at 11:45 yesterday, for a drink with my wife and 3 year old son. There must be over 20 tables in there, set up for lunches, all empty apart from 1 family having a chat. We walked in, went to the bar and of the 8+ staff members who all ignored us, one lady acknowledged our existence when we went to sit down as she said "do you have a booking?" I said we only want a drink, we had to stand, in an empty pub, until she confirmed we could sit there until 2pm. But we only wanted a drink, so she didn't listen to our requirements. No staff came to the table, so I went over and said, my wife would like a coffee and cake, can I see the desert menu, I was told as we didn't have a booking we can't have the desert menu! I looked over at who i presume was a manager, as he was older and he looked away! So we walked out and had to drive into Oxted town centre. We will never come back to this pub. Terrible service on Mothers Day. If you're not a public house where the public can come in and order a drink four hours after you've opened, don't advertise as a pub. You're a restaurant with bad customer service.

We had a fantastic meal at the Barley Mow last night. Excellent service and food. The liver and bacon was delicious as was the fish pie and burgers. I'd like to express my thanks for a really enjoyable visit last weekend. We haven’t been to the Barley mow for many a year, so it was delightful to find it in good shape, with excellent and attentive service and superb food(chicken pie 👍) There was a pleasant but quiet atmosphere, and no piped music, which was a real joy. I’m certain we’ll be back soon.

Very slow service although not busy. We sat for at least 30 minutes before our order was taken and had to request plates to be cleared. Had to ask for dessert menu not offered them. Food was average, some dishes better than others. My opinion is that staff dealing with food should have long hair tied back. One of the waitresses serving us had long hair that was hanging over the plates of food as she served. Not impressed won’t be returning.

Judging by some of the reviews I must have chosen an off day for all of us to experience some of the worst cooked food I've ever been served with( apart from the service which was friendly and efficient.) Inedible overcooked dry fish pie and burgers cooked to death with soggy chips and sad side dishes a wasted day at some expense. Won't be going back in a hurry

We booked for lunch on New Years Eve as we were en route to friends in Tandridge. I thought I would try a final Roast Turkey meal of the season, and my girlfriend ordered a pie. At £23 I was shocked to discover stuffing was an additional £3.50! When my dish arrived, I was shocked to see the stuffing consisted of two very small balls. Worse still there were 2.5 tiny roast potatoes. I ordered more (another £3.50) and 5 decent sized potatoes arrived. Why were they not on the original plate? So just for clarity I paid £30 so a distinctly average roast! I later discovered that this pub was owned by a chain, Hall and Woodhouse when dining at their excellent pub in Arundel, the Black Rabbit.Upselling side dishes like this is daylight robbery. Service was average until our waitress scowled when I refused to tip. My girlfriend's pie was underfilled, and tasteless. We'd popped in for drinks with our friends in the Summer and the atmosphere was completely different. The change in management has been cited as disastrous in other reviews.

We had lunch at this country pub on 12 January. We liked the look of the place when we viewed it on the internet and in spite of reading some rather negative reviews on Trip Advisor we decided to give it a go. We had booked our table and on arrival we were greeted by two pleasant young waiters who showed us to a table in a bright corner of the restaurant. They immediately brought us a glass of water and we asked for a glass of red wine for my wife and a pint of beer for me. When these arrived we ordered a pork belly dish for my wife and bangers and mash for me. They arrived after 45 minutes ! The black pudding mash which accompanied the pork was virtually cold, My wife pointed this out and the waiter took it back to the kitchen. When she returned with the dish it was much hotter. The carrots which along with the kale and broccoli which accompanied the bangers and mash dish were as near to being uncooked as they could be. All of this in a restaurant that nobody could describe as being busy. We decided not to try our luck with the desserts and after drinking a decent cup of coffee we paid our bill of £61 and left. We were disappointed at the overall presentation of the meal at what is a pleasant establishment in a nice village. We find it baffling that the easy parts of presenting food i.e.proper cooking of vegetables and serving them hot seems to be made heavy weather of. The hospitality industry, as everyone knows, is not going through the easiest of times and seems to me to be incumbent on proprietors and their teams to be at the top of their game. It is a great pity when a pleasant pub like this which boasts a more interesting menu than some of its competitors falls down on basic components which customers would expect to be the norm The waiters were very pleasant and I was sorry to feel their efforts in the front line were being undermined by laziness in the kitchen. It seems to me that in catering all members of the team rely on each other to produce their best efforts to make the place where they earn their livelihood as profitable as possible. This is not currently happening at The Barley Mow. I have written this at some length because I feel that the pub/restaurant could be very good and in the hope that efforts can be made to effect the necessary improvements. We have no intention of returning in the immediate future but will read any future reviews on Trip Advisor with interest. I have given them an average marking in the hope that they will be encouraged to up their game.

Absolutely shocking. Has always been our go to pub for the last 5 years ahead of the Haycutter and Carpenters Arms but we had a thoroughly disappointing Christmas lunch. Service unbelievably slow (and not even busy) and rude when we enquired about when the food might arrive, which when it did arrive was something a 6 year old could have knocked up. New management appear to have no clue how to run a pub and offered no apology, just very defensive. Will not be returning. Such a shame as this was a great pub.

What happened to the warm welcome and friendly service from the owners and manageress? We went for Sunday lunch roast which was very disappointing. The prawn cocktail was supposed to have brandy in the sauce but we feel there was no brandy. Normally prawn cocktail is served in a dish or glass but this was served on flat plates with burnt toast not brown bread. The mushrooms on toast which were tasteless. The main course potatoes were not roasted and the pigs in blankets were burnt. The service was extremely slow. The waitress was very pleasant.

Something has gone very wrong here! Usually a good vibe and excellent food, sadly our latest trip was anything but. The waiting staff appeared harassed and the manageress had the sort of face on that stopped you wanting to ask for anything! She was in the midst of snapping at the chap behind the bar when we arrived, and we had to wait til this was over before he showed us to our table. Turns out there was no rush! We waited 40 minutes for drinks and menus, another hour for food, the mains then appeared before the starters had been cleared away and every single dish was awful. Three of us had three different dishes and they all disappointed. I counted three prawns in a prawn cocktail, there were whole lumps of essentially raw garlic in the baked Camembert and the soup looked straight out of a tin. My friend had halloumi and fries and the halloumi was the size of a piece of haddock! In fact, we thought it was fish until she cut in to it. I’d say someone in the kitchen also thought it was fish as it had a serving of tartare sauce with it! Th chicken pie was drenched in gravy and soggy and the sea bream burnt. We felt sorry for our waitress who looked as if she was about to cry so we picked our way through the most disgusting meal I’ve eaten in a long time, paid and left . Didn’t bother with pud funnily enough.

Amazing service & amazing food. Maria & team really looked after us & responded so well to my gluten free needs. Non-gf husband said it’s best pub roast he’s had. My lamb was delicious. We’ll definitely be back!
