We have been here 3 times and it's always cold. There are lots of car parks available, that's why it's convenient for us to come here. I love the food, but my husband said the food is standard. Kind of like the staff are busy with themselves as the service is always slow. I thought the first two visits it was slow because it was crowded, but this time we were there when the pub was a bit empty. Service is also slow. A portion of olive is very generous.

We held a family wake here and we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. The staff were very accommodating with our requests and nothing was too much trouble. We chose the gold buffet menu with some extra sides, teas and coffees. The buffet was great and plentiful as commented on by many in our gathering. The pub had a very welcoming, relaxed atmosphere too and I would hesitate in recommending.

Had a wonderful night with the family for a birthday celebration. The staff were outstanding, attentive and had a great sense of humour to match. The food was pretty decent and the booth we sat in made it very private, which made the night if I am honest. Many thanks for the complimentry round of drinks and the birthday treat, made it very special. Would highly recommend a visit and can't wait to go again.

We popped in here without a booking in a Saturday evening. Restaurant full do we were offered the bar area. We were fine with that. The problem was, it was Baltic in there. Absolutely uncomfortably chilly despite being relatively busy. Disappointingly, the fire wasn’t lit. No background music made for a flat atmosphere too. Food was ok. Nothing special but typical brewery concept fare which there was nothing wrong with. Heating and music would have given this review 4 stars but frankly, we couldn’t wait to get back into the warmth of the car.

We turned up without booking, to be welcomed with the response ‘we never turn anyone away’ :-) Such friendly staff, we chose where to sit and both had a lovely meal, meat feast pizza - came cut up in slices- very helpful and was just delicious and fish n chips with mushy peas was also yummy. No pushyness to leave, an overall enjoyable ‘good value for money’ evening out.

Passed this place many times, and it is always packed. So, taking a chance on a Monday, I now understand why it is busy. Great welcome, great team, Amber looked after us, and 100% is a fitting description of how great she is. The food is some of the best around if not the best. This is certainly a place I can recommend, and we will be returning. That is a fact.

We visit The Curious Pig occasionally and today we popped in for a quick midday meal. For starters we had sticky chicken and an old school prawn cocktail. Sticky chicken had fresh chilli with it, juicy chicken and a warn flavour from the chilli along with an amazing rich sweet sauce. Prawn cocktail was pretty standard but could have done with a few more prwns for the price. Mains, we both had pies, cheese leek and potato plus steak and ale, these were both well filled and tasty, pastry wasn't soggy. They seemed bought in rather than made on the premises but the addition of fresh vegetables not overcooked added a nice freshness to the meal. Mashed potato, haricot verts and carrots. Desert, a lemon cheese cake with fresh berry compot and clotted cream. Whilst there they were firing up a large pizza over, next time we go back we'll be trying a pizza snd will definitely be ordering the sticky chicken and cheesecake again. Wine, a couple of glasses of Rioja which complimented the meal well.

Visited the Curious Pig as a party of three for a meal at 8 o’clock on a Saturday evening having booked a table online. We drove there as the restaurant is in a fairly rural area. When we arrived the car park was fairly full but parking was readily available. When we entered we were warmly greeted and shown to a table. The restaurant was warm and well lit and very busy. We were given menus and a drinks order taken and we were advised that orders were taking approx. 40 minutes from order to service. This wasn’t an issue as we had plenty of topics of conversation to catch up on Our drinks order arrived after about 5 minutes and our order was taken. Starters arrived after about 20 minutes and were excellent, served hot and with good sized portions. Empty dishes were promptly cleared and fresh cutlery and napkins brought to the table. Main courses were served at about the predicted time. I had the fish and chips and this was excellent. Large fillet of fish in crisp batter with chunky chips. Wait team were busy and it took several attempts to attract their attention to order a second round of drinks. We then had to enquire where the round had gone as it had not arrived after 10 or so minutes. The wait team of three were constantly on the move and had to work extremely hard to maintain a reasonable level of service By the time we left after 9 the restaurant was noticeably quiet though the bar was still busy. An enjoyable meal and as one of our local restaurants we will return but we will avoid the very busy period between 7 and 8 o’clock

From when we were met at the door, to being shown to our table and the delicious menu, we were pleased to note that the staff were courteous, efficient and polite. We visited the Curious Pig for dinner on a Monday evening when we had friends visiting from Scotland as it is one of our favourite local restaurants and has a menu which caters for all tastes. We booked online which was very straightforward. On arrival the car park was moderately busy and we had no trouble finding a space. We were warmly welcomed and shown through to our table. As is the norm there was sanitiser available at the entrance and the staff were wearing masks. The restaurant was busy and probably about two thirds of the tables were occupied. As always the interior was bright and welcoming.Menus were brought and our drinks order taken once we were seated. Drinks were served promptly and we settled down to peruse the menu. When our order was being taken it became apparent that a large part of the menu was unavailable, no mussels due to having run out and no pizzas as pizza chef on day off. The non-availability of the mussels caused a major issue for one of our party who is pescatarian but the staff were very helpful and they were able to find something to their taste.I ordered the sausage roll starter and the cod and chips for mains, while the remainder ordered their own personal preferences from the available dishes.Starters were served within a timeframe that allowed for them to be cooked and were excellent. Mains followed immediately our starters were cleared and were beautifully presented and very obviously freshly cooked. The fish was coated in a light crispy batter and was absolutely enormous and cooked to perfection. It rates as one of the largest portions I have been served in a restaurant. Chips were excellent and the tartare sauce had just the right amount of bite.Throughout staff were superb, making sure drinks were topped up, meal was to our satisfaction and bringing additional portions of the various condiments that accompanied our choices. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our guests were very envious that we have such a great restaurant in the village. Will we visit again? Of course but not on a Monday or without checking that the full menu is available so that tastebuds are not disappointed.I have not downrated my review despite the issues with the availability of items on the menu as the helpful staff and excellence of the fare ensured we had a very pleasant meal

We stayed overnight at this Marston's inn before a flight from Gatwick. The plus points were good staff - the Deputy Manager was really on the ball, a nice breakfast and good value for the location. That said it all felt a bit frayed at the edges and my rump steak supper was pretty ropey. The room was reasonably well appointed but very small and had a rather stale smell to it. Obviously a flagship inn with a massive food and beverage turnover but needs a bit of tlc.

Called in early evening for a main course and drink . Fish and chips and the house burger . Burger was fine but the battered fish was clearly well over cooked , and not at all enjoyable . What chef would plate up a meal that is clearly far from palatable ? Anyone knows what a good well cooked meal looks like ! To their credit , they removed the fish meal from the bill . The thing is that with so many venues to choose from , why would we go back to somewhere that has so little regard for delivering a quality offering .

I would love to give a higher rating as this is a very local pub to us and the garden is nice, but unfortunately the last two visits have been fairly shambolic. First visit we were met at the entrance with a very agitated manager who told us they were very busy and didn’t have any tables (although pub was nearly empty and we only wanted a drink), we eventually got ‘allowed’ in after making it clear we were only after a quick drink (we weren’t asked if we were eating or just drinking). There was an argument about the food between another customer and the same manager within ear shot of us during our visit and didn’t sound very professional at all.Our second visit, one of the two ales was off and no pizzas available (reason we came). We left and ate elsewhere. In summary, lots of potential to be a nice pub but doesn’t seem well run and food/drink offerings patchy. Won’t be rushing back.

We all had the pizzas which were excellent, what we didn't know was that they were 2 for 1. It didn't mention this on the menu we were offered, and nor did the staff mention it, so it was a nice bonus to see the discount on our bill. The deserts were rather disappointing and unseasonal, I would expect fresh berries with the eaton mess, not "poached" ones. The other choices were a bit generic and uninspiring.I would definitely return for the pizzas though.

Went to have an evening meal with friends last Tuesday. We were well received by friendly, helpful staff. I asked for the British Cote De Boeuf (priced £31.95), medium, as did one of my friends. The rest went for the Fillet steak.Food arrived and I can honestly say it was the worst and most inedible steak I have ever had. Hardly able to cut with steak knife and impossible to chew - all of it. Was quite unable to 'dissect' any meat away from the gristle. Had to return it.Staff were very polite and exchanged it for a Fillet steak (which was OK'ed by the other friends as edible).Would have given a lower rating but gave 2 stars because staff were nice. Visited with a group of friends for our first get together since the start of Covid. Food was good, service pretty efficient given how busy they were. Lots of lovely, comfortable outside/covered space. Covid friendly. I had a steak, which can be luck of the draw but mine was good - hardly any fat on it at all and cooked well. Failed to let a friend know they had run out of Yorkshire puddings which she was a little disappointed about when her roast arrived and service slowed a little towards the end but we were there 4 or so hours and they were closing so understandable. Only one option for dessert by the time we ordered but we went with it and it was DELICIOUS (honeycomb brownie) And it was a Sunday evening so not too shocked. Overall, I will be back and would recommend.

Party of 6, from mixed households in a Tier 2 area so dined outside. We'd all been here before and were really looking forward to our visit - have had great meals in the past. Our latest visit is probably going to be our last for a while, I think, based on the experience we had.So arrival was fine, no problems, sat outside on a lovely, clean and heated patio area. Drinks orders were a bit messed up (had to chase one drink, another was delayed due to not being available) but eventually arrived.Food took a while and was served without cutlery. 5 minutes later we had cutlery and, because we were sat outside, luke-warm food. Shame that the cutlery didn't turn up first!I had steak, which was not at all to my liking (and I did speak up at the time) because it was (a) tiny and (b) very well done - I had requested medium. This was gratefully removed from my bill. Couple of other small problems with other dishes (the piece of fish my wife had was very chewy and the hispi cabbage side was very undercooked) but others in the group chose not to bring that up.Dessert orders taken promptly and arrived pretty quickly (with cutlery supplied beforehand!!), the banana sticky toffee pudding tasted more like bread pudding to me, and was, in my opinion, mediocre and not worth the money. My wife's hot drink arrived as we were getting ready to leave and was also removed from the bill.So all in all, I wonder if it's perhaps because we were sat outside that we were a bit forgotten about; every other time I've eaten here both the food and service has been brilliant. I am all in favour of a large amount of forbearance in these difficult times, but large groups of diners sat inside (of course from the same household!!!!) didn't seem to have any of the problems we did. This all sounds very negative but really it wasn't - the staff are very friendly, some of the food was really, really good (their chips are incredible and the mac and cheese side is a pot of heaven). So if you dine here, my personal suggestion would be - don't order steak, don't sit outside and give dessert a swerve.

We have stayed a few times at this wonderful country pub, it's our go to place when we visit our son in Haywards Heath. We travel from Norwich, and our son doesn't have enough room for us to stay there. The staff are really nice and very welcoming so much so that they left my husband a present, when we were down there for his birthday. The food is wonderful, breakfast scrumptious and other meals good. All round, I would certainly recommend 'The Curious Pig' to anyone wanting to stay in this area, it's also not far from Gatwick.

We ordered 3 rib eye steaks here tonight. What turned up was 1 rib eye & 2 pre cooked awful rump cuts. When I asked the waitress (who were great) to ask the kitchen what’s up, I was told that ‘they don’t cut the meat on site and that it’s pre cut’. Which didn’t answer my question as to why we had 2 different cuts of meat on the table. Couldn’t be bothered to confront the kitchen on how they’ve completely mugged us off on our steaks. Starters were great however. £30 for mystery chewy cuts - not so great.

Party of 4, been there before many times and enjoyed the meals but NEVER AGAIN. The meal my wife had Cottage Pie my wife had was a very small ramekin size with a small spoonful of meat in it and just a few small carrots and tiny jug of gravy. A friend had the Chicken, Ham Hock & Pea Pie. Again small ramekin size with approx 8 beans and a few small roast pots. No gravy and waitress could not understand why we asked for some, well it was on the menu! I had a Margarita Pizza which was scarce with toppings and I could have done better going to Tesco. My wife said she was still hungry when we left and in 40+ years I have never heard he say that. I would embarrassed if I had served that meal to guests at my house.I wrote to the restaurant when we got home. The reply was very dismissive of my issues and said size and quantity were dictated by 'head office'. The respondent didn't even have the courtesy to provide a name.An awful experience and not that uncommon having spoken to others. I will never cross their threshold again, there is much better value around and in these days when competition is fierce they will lose out.

From start to finish, ably looked after by Nathan, excellent role model. Great service, tasty varied menu choices not seen elsewhere served very well. We drive up from the coast to visit The Curious Pig - so much more consistent than many establishments in our area. Thanks guys.

One of my preferred pubs when in the area, this pub offers great fare and even better service. Look for their specials, as they have some really great deals. In the warmer months, dining in the back garden is a fantastic way to spend an evening with friends or family.

Good pub grub and friendly, informative staff. Excellent COVID rules and buzzing with people keeping their distance and wearing masks when they should. Looking forward to coming back.

Came here for a family lunch during the “Eat Out Help Out” scheme. We had a lovely lunch here. Really couldn’t fault anything. The staff are pleasant, the food was really well made and presented. Portions were great. They took good care of us despite the crowds. We’ll return.

Visited on a weekday night and it was busy. Can't fault the waiting staff - very good. I had the rib-eye steak medium rare and it was very thin, sinewy and chewy. Good job it had 50% off steaks as full price certainly wouldn't be worth it. Overall disappointing and average.

We revisited this local restaurant during “East out to help out” initiative. We made our table booking online using their website and this was easy and straight forward. Due to the popularity of the scheme we were only able to book for a dinner slot for 5:30pm. The restaurant has a large car park and with the reduced numbers being catered for space was not an issue. When we arrived the restaurant was already half full and despite having over 50% of the tables removed still managed to generate a good atmosphere. We were welcomed and shown to our table. In line with COVID measures the table was bare which did rather spoil the experience.Menus were brought and a drinks order taken. Drinks were served promptly on a tray and we were asked to take them to the table as part of the COVID measures. I did wonder how they got on the tray if staff were unable to handle the glasses. There is a good range of dishes on offer with something to suit most tastes. We ordered the chicken breast and steak for main courses. These arrived in the timescales expected for cooked to order. Again, dishes were served on a tray together with napkins and cutlery and we lifted them onto the table. Condiments were offered and brought in individual sachets. Both the chicken and the steak were cooked as ordered and were excellent. The thick cut chips accompanying the steak were perfection personified. Only minor blemish was that we were given cocktail napkins which are rather on the small side. When the mains were cleared we were offered the dessert menu and my wife decided to have the cheesecake. This was again served quickly with accompanying cutlery and fresh napkins.Throughout staff were attentive ensuring the meal was to our satisfaction and offering drinks refills when required. The restaurant was full by the time we left and despite the reduced numbers had a atmosphere close to the “old normal”.We had a very enjoyable meal and have booked a return visit with friends at the beginning of October. If you are in the vicinity then the Curious Pig is well worth a visit.

Good steak, benefitted from eat out to help out where there was generously no cap at £10. The sides for the steak were missing tomatoes. Delicious halloumi fries. Parking was a nightmare as it was so busy. Service was good also.

We’ve eaten here so many times and always been really impressed however tonight was our first time back since lockdown... and I was disappointed. On arrival we weren’t asked to sanitise our hands (we did anyway) and the staff aren’t in any PPE!! No masks no visors no thing!! Shocking they have no care towards their staff or customers!! It then took 20 mins before anyone took our order. Unfortunately we were sat next to 2 locals who completely ruined our meal but talking loudly and swearing, we should of asked to move but by the time I realised they were a nuisance it was almost to late. On a positive food was great. No complaints about the food. Just didn’t like the staff so close to me without a visor/mask on. Won’t be rushing back sadly.

Family meal with old friends who had been here before and had bigged it up before we came and they were spot on.The Scotch egg starter was excellent and the pizzas, burgers and deserts that followed amazing. The waiter seemed a little inexperienced and made a couple of minor mistakes with ice in drinks etc but these were quickly put right and the food was served quickly and piping hot. Loved the quirky sink in the gents too, we will definitely return when in the area next.

Me and a friend came for lunch goodbye. What was concerning is they didn’t make any customers sanitise their hands upon arrival and no staff were wearing face masks to protect themselves or the customer. We’d ordered a chicken starter. After it was served we discovered it was complete raw. The young waitress was very polite and apologised about the food and took them away straight away and voided them off the bill. Later the manager came after we requested to speak to him and his lack of concern and attitude was worrying. There was no apology from him and no empathy. He said all food should be temperature checked and there’s not much else he could have done. Clearly food isn’t being checked there and that’s concerning. He said if we would like to carry on eating there then great f not he would cancel the order. We wasn’t asked if we’d like anything else or something as a gesture of good will he seemed to just shrug the matter off. The bill came and we’d still had to pay for all of our drinks and mains which is unbelievable. As we were leaving he was on his phone with his back to the door and once again no apology or even a goodbye.. Such a shame as we go there quite often and most certainly won’t be again.

Staying at the Copthorne Hotel, we were looking for somewhere to have a nice pre-holiday meal and The Curious Pig didn’t disappoint. The staff were very friendly whilst doing their very best to work around the Covid restrictions. I had the fillet steak which really hit the spot, which was made all the better as we’d lucked in to this being half price Tuesday for all steak meals. Would definitely recommend and return before future holidays.

We have been to this restaurant a few times in recent years and have always enjoyed our experience however last night we decided to go and see what it was like being in a restaurant with the pandemic restrictions. Sadly I don’t think you would have known a pandemic was still going on. The waitresses got way to close to the table to take our order and to put the plates down. They touched the cutlery before putting it on the table (another restaurant placed it on a tray so we could retrieve ourselves). There was no one way system meaning that everyone was everywhere. Forgive me if i am wrong but I didn’t think the pubs should be booking at full capacity? It was full! Tables were all busy. Yes they had sanitiser on entry but that was it really.I even saw a waitress jokingly touch a customer at one point. I know this seems all very dramatic but we would like to have pubs stay open and avoid another lockdown. Sadly I don’t think we will be back anytime soon. The food was lovely and it was nice to be out again just a shame that they were a bit too relaxed.

I came in a few times for sunday tea and chat with best friend. One Friday after work decided to take my daughter for light snack and we tried the Pizza. Amazing AMAZING! thin layer full of amazing flavour!! Cannot remember all names [sorry chef! Tim, Ted or Ed ... I am so sorry chef i should have written your name, upss sorry] but the waitress, Zoe [I think!] Had the best attitude even overwhelming. This was just a few days before the shutdown due to COVID19 and just look like everyone was in there [comfort and reassurance in service and place I am sure]. Hope you guys open soon, because it means not only lockdown is over but life goes back to normal. See you guys soon!

Returned to this lovely garden centre and was warmly welcomed into the restaurant,it was early lunchtime but there was a good buzz of others enjoying their food. There is a seasonal menu and wanting a fairly light lunch we opted for the mezze platter to share. The service is first class our waitress very friendly,we ordered a beer and glass of red wine to accompany the dish. The drinks and food arrived speedily and it was delicious, colourful, and beautifully presented. Our waitress returned to check everything was ok which of course it was.We had coffee afterwards then left.We were acknowledged by all the staff working there who cheerfully said Goodbye. This is a venue not to be missed,I noticed the lunch menu, they also do breakfast and whilst there at the weekend they were serving a beautiful afternoon tea to a group of ladies…I look forward to a return visit soon…Yours Stuart…

Visited for the first time to see a play in the upstairs room. We couldn’t have had a better night. The welcome from the moment we walked was great. The play was brilliant and the publican even gave us a lift to the station so that we made our train We would definitely make the effort to go again , if we heard about more plays or events and more often if we lived nearer
