Popped into the Anchor on an impromptu visit to the area on a bank holiday. We hadn’t booked but there was space for us even though they were very busy. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive without smothering. I had the pan fried duck from the specials board and my husband had the Sirloin steak, both of which were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. For afters the sticky toffee cheesecake was a delight! The Anchor had a lovely atmosphere as a pub that families of all ages were enjoying and the toilets were very clean too! We would definitely recommend this pub and will definitely come back when we are in the area again.

I dropped by this lovely village pub because of its extensive choice of real ales and home cooked food. The menu is varied with many different food choices. There are many flyers around the bar advertising live music events. A lively atmosphere in a quintessentially English village for visitors and locals.

My husband and I were staying in local b&b for a few days . We visited the pub on three occasions and found the staff and locals very friendly. We had booked our first meal on a Thursday evening, quiz night! We were informed on booking that it would be busy . We had fish and chips and chicken in a bun … tasty and hot . The quiz and quizmaster made our evenings entertainment. We popped in one afternoon and sat in the sunny back garden . Our last visit was on a Saturday evening. We were made to feel very welcome by the barman . We had ham egg and chips and a very nice pork and stuffing pie from the specials board . I also asked for my vegetables and potatoes to be changed which they did with no fuss . If you like tasty , hot decent pub food then I would though recommend. We would certainly return if staying in the area again .

My wife, with severe dementia, downed a half pint of apple juice without stopping. She started 'mouthing' and looked as if she was about to be sick. We went outside. J., who was serving, could not have been more caring. She came outside to check we were ok and arranged for our meal to be wrapped, for us to take away. My wife, recovered quite quickly, and enjoyed her meal at home. Thank you.

After reading the great reviews we decided to try. The only thing that was good was the lovely porter on tap. We all decided to have the spare ribs advertised with chips, onion rings and coleslaw @ £18. I could not believe the plate when it arrived. Ribs that you buy prepacked in plastic in a box from any supermarket for £4 you could tell by the shape of the rack and the taste. Extra BBQ sauce had been poured over possibly to disguise this fact. Being a butcher it was easy to tell the ribs were precooked vac packed and had been microwaved. Chips were frozen nothing special, onion rings (3) were dripping with oil. The coleslaw was inedible and just tasted like oil. Not only extremely disappointed but could not belive that could be served for £18 thinking it was acceptable. Horrible experience but lovely Porter on tap. Won't return make of it as you will.

First time at The Anchor Inn for lunch with friends. What a gem of a place. I started with Whitebait with salad and mayo. Then for second course had the Gammon with chips peas and a fried egg. Was too full to indulge in a pudding. But with light bites which I would say helpings were quite large I was pleasently full. Will definately return. Wonderful meal. We are visiting Wingham Wildlife Park on a Sunday in August so we thought we would have Sunday dinner in Wingham at the Anchor Inn and make sure we booked the week before to avoid any disappointments and make a good day of it all. Good job we did this Inn is so poplar and its very obvious why. The food was excellent nothing at all to complain about and quite honestly its been a very long time that a Inn such as the Anchor felt just like the old days gone by. Friendly, polite and excellent service by all. We didn't take any photos because there is simply nothing to prove here and anyway there are plenty to see online. You wont be disappointed here for Sunday dinner.

This pub scores highly for decor and atmosphere. It really is a lovely old pub. However, it’s a little chaotic with its service, and that’s putting it mildly. I visited The Anchor with family. Two of us were vegetarian and one vegan. First we were offered drinks. I wanted water and my daughter in law wanted apple juice. The drinks were brought over in their bottles, no glasses. We asked for glasses! No ice, so we left that. Then we made our choices from the menu. My daughter in law had the special but swapped out the onion rings for salad but kept the chips. My son had mushroom stroganoff and I had the pasta which I was told was vegan after a lot of running back and forth from the kitchen, cos no one seemed to know, but the garlic bread wasn’t vegan. Food came out. Mine had the garlic bread, after being told I couldn’t have the garlic bread, so I gave that to my son. My daughter in law’s had no chips, so we asked them to bring some out. The second round of drinks were fine, ice and glasses were supplied, and the puddings were fine too. Then we got the bill…the waitress said she kept putting in the wrong amount, this just filled us with confidence, then I saw they had charged for the chips, yet they were meant to be part of one of the meals. The food was tasty, the staff willing and friendly but the service did remind me a bit of Faulty Towers.

This is such an easy place to be … and very obviously well frequented by the locals (that includes us I’m pleased to say!). The big garden or lawned area out back is perfect for community activities, Charity boot fairs, lunch, brunch or whatever - it’s a nice place to just ‘drop by’. We had a tasty Sunday Lunch (mine gluten free) - 2 courses £20, 3 courses £24, and then stayed to listen to the band for a while. Always lots going on - live music is quite ‘a thing’ at The Anchor! Inside it’s a lovely country pub with comfy sofas, a real fire in Winter and hops hanging from the old beams. The outside is quite ‘unloved’ looking which is a shame - but overall, a good local pub.

3 of my friends and I walked in, got greeted rather harshly for lack of reservation, wasn't too big of a deal. They told us to just sit wherever we liked so we chose to sit in the garden, they said it was fine. We chose a table and waited there. After a while no one came so I went inside and asked to order. They took my order and started to prepare the drinks. They then gave me the serving dish and told me to take it out. I was a bit confused but I took it out. They then did come and take orders for the food. The food came out and I have to say it was really nice and relatively ok prices. At the end of the evening the waitress came out and told me to bring the dishes back to the bar. Seemed to me like rather lazy service but I complied and we all paid, no trouble splitting the bill. Overall the atmosphere was nice just needs an improvement in the service.

First visit to this pub and had a great experience. The sun was shining so we started off in the large garden and were well looked after by the lovely lady with the bunny ears, who refreshed our drinks and brought our menus without us having to move. It was busy Easter time but service was quick and efficient, no 'long wait' excuses you get at a lot of places. We went inside to eat where our dog was made welcome. The Sunday lunch was delicious, but let down by the absence of a Yorkshire pudding. We were told that the chef only cooked enough YP's for the roast beef orders. Come on - surely like me the vast majority of people think that YP is an integral part of a Sunday roast, irrespective of what type of meat you're having. Look forward to returning to try other dishes on the menu

A little hesitant to this old building of great history. Once inside the warm welcome overtook my worry. We all chose from the "Light Bite" menu. A very good selection of three courses on offer. A lunch time mid week, the food was very good, clean plates all round. Four hours later, a very enjoyable time and price reasonable. The only down side was the loo for me a trip across the road with disability Radar Key. A hefty padlock after hours on this council block in the car park best go day time then !
