Came here on Sunday for a roast and it was lovely, amazing selection of food and drinks ,great atmosphere and lovely staff would definitely recommend ! new management have done a really good job .

Visited the Red Lion for lunch with a friend. It was a sunny day so we sat in the large garden. The landlady was very friendly and welcoming and soon got us settled with a bottle of Sauvignon blanc (£18). It was Fish Friday so the menu was heavily seafood based but there were options for non fish eaters. We chose the wagyu burger and I have to say it’s the best burger I’ve ever had. The food is restaurant quality at pub prices. I would highly recommend trying the food here as I suspect it’s going to be incredibly popular as people start to know about the food.

It is common to hear from England that it's not a good play to eat, but this is because they didn't come here. It is a wonderful place.

Lovely couple managing the pub who were able to fit us in, last minute for a great Sunday roast with huge Yorkshire puds just like Nan used to make ! Nice pint of landlord to go with it , perfection!

New people running the pub - lovely food. Georgia & Tim have just taken over the pub & Tim is a chef. Lovely food - Cauliflower Tempura to share, followed by Haddock, Chips & Pea Purée for Julie Davies & Coconut, chickpea & vegetable curry & sag aloo for me. Delicious, you've definitely got to try the food.

We have just had Sunday lunch and it was very Good, the beef and the lamb was lovely cooked just right, I don't think you will find anywhere in Dover and around better. The beer was good to.

1st time been in there, very quite but I did go in just after lunch time so can't give a full review, didn't try the food but maybe next time if I go in, barmaid was nice and friendly which is always a bonus in any public house

Excellent Sunday lunch, good value and great quality. A good choice of meats: chicken, beef, pork or lamb. We booked in advance and were able to take our small dog. Very friendly staff, I will definitely return.

stay away from this pub . the rudest pub in the uk i was charged for two pints when i asked for two halfs i was rufused a refund when i protested a member of the public attacted me and the manager said get out even without giveing me a refund now i know why pubs are closing in droves

Went for a Sunday roast with family.... what a bargain! £12 for a full Sunday roast. You get your choice of meat, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding and stuffing on your main plate, then a separate bowl of vegetables and pot of gravy (vegetarian option available). The meal was delicious and more than I could eat. The staff were very polite and happy to accommodate our requests. Would highly recommend for a good value meal and will be returning to try something else.

An excellent evening meal after being turned away by a chain restaurant that couldn't be bothered! I had the Thursday pie and mash and my companion had Hunter's Chicken. Both were huge servings and both were delicious! The service was welcoming and friendly. We shall definitely be back!

What a amazing friendly pub. I took my parents for Sunday dinner there and all I can say is WOW. Next time I’m back in Dover I’m taking my whole family for Sunday dinner. Best Sunday roast around by far

They do food and Sunday lunches never tried we were out out on a Friday night and visited here before home time for one last drink. Nice setting would recomend

After hearing about their roast dinners , we went and tried for ourselves. We were not disappointed. Fantastic roast with a giant Yorkshire and 4 or 5 big spuds. Veg on the side. I went home pretty well stuffed. Highly recommended. Keep up the good work, guys.

Had a roast dinner here today with my lovely granddaughter her grandad and grandma it was the nicest Sunday lunch I have had lovely meal cant believe we didn't eat it all as there was loads will definitely be going back. Had a lovely singer in the garden after to I am so glad that this pub is finally doing it right always liked it here but this is what it needed. Thankyou.

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday (party of 7 which included 2 young children). Given a lovely friendly warm welcome and showed to our table promptly. Table service for everything was very efficient and staff were really lovely. Food was delicious and how we managed dessert I do not know as the portions are huge. Roast beef was tender and delicious lamb was unfortunately a bit chewy but still very tasty. Only criticism is the portion sizes for young children. Just rather too much. Smaller plates would be good with a bit less food. Lovely garden area to enjoy if desired. Will definitely recommend and return. Thank you.

We had a large table of around 20, all good came out hot and looked lovely but I had pork and was all fat no pork, couldn’t even chew it 🤦‍♀️on telling the waitress she went back in to tell the chef, she came back out and I was told that chef was not in a good mood and he wasn’t going to do anything about it, she offered me a free drink, I later went in to buy a drink and heard a few f&&ks coming from the kitchen, such a shame as if they had offered a new dinner I wouldn’t have to do this review as rest of dinner was lovely such a shame 🙄

Husband and myself were visiting family in Dover and decided to take our sons for a roast dinner,we chose this pub because of the reviews.. We werent disappaointed ! The food was delicious,plenriful and hot !! 3 of us had lamb and the other had beef,it was just spot on.. The roast potatoes were crispy and fluffy,a yorkie the size of my hand and beautifully bubbly creamy cauli cheese... 12.95 per person and it was worth every penny

Under new management so went in to try after previous disappointing visits. Much improved with pleasant staff and beer garden tidied up. Will be visiting again soon.

Arrived in a party of 16 for Sunday roast, we preordered to ease our experience and hopefully give the kitchen a heads up. Food was all served as consecutively as possible! Staff were very friendly and didn’t seem phased by our party size - after everyone received their mains (very generous portions of meats, potatoes, stuffing and massive Yorkshire pudding..) we had veg and then extra veg provided, extra potatoes and gravy and all the condiments you could ask for. Some of the group needed to cancel desert after over doing it on roast spuds lol Overall it was an amazing experience for our family get together at an inarguable price. 100% recommend.

Nice roast dinner but the place smelt of dog and there was dog poo in the beer garden, not nice when your eating. The coke in my drink was own brand, big no no that, and it was flat.

Nice little pub. Seems a little rough around the edges but the new owner is warm and inviting. Food is good and I really look forward to seeing what he does with the place. Also don't be surprised when the horse... Sorry I mean dog behind the bar pops up to say hello

Thought we would try there Sunday lunch coz fed up with cooking wish we hadn't it was not nice cold plates burnt potatoes veg cooked to death brown soggy cauliflower cheese and the gravy was like engine oil my husband called the it that.not worth the £10.95

Waitress service wasn't up to much.Drinks were delivered along with 2 dishes of vegetables(we hadn't even ordered our meals?).We ordered 3 Roast beef Dinners after attending the Ceremony early in the morning to commemorate all who had given their lives so that we enjoy may enjoy our freedom.We were all famished...The plates were hot and again the service was haphazard...Suffice to say our full meal and drinks was comped by the new owner who apologised profusely... As we were leaving we said sorry.... I would like to return again for a Roast Beef dinner with my beloved cup of tea...

new owners come in and changed things great selection of beers real ale also on tap. Sunday carvery. Free juke box on a Saturday night and to top it off a wonderful garden area with a skittle alley boom ! Must add how clean the toilets were.

What a difference! The new tenancy has changed the atmosphere and given this great old pub a new lease of life. As a neighbour, I have met and chatted to people I only see walking down the street. No loud music, very friendly staff and outstanding food. The awful pandemic was left outside when I entered, my mood changed, and I felt part of a community for the first time in a long time! Bravo Dean and your team and long may your success continue. Oh, and the beer is fabulous, I shall enjoy working my way through the numerous choices.

Newly reopened the red lion has recovered it’s old world charm under the guidance of Dean and his team of professionals. No longer for youths drinking Stella, quite the contrary it is once again a family pub that welcomes well-behaved dogs And they let people in as well. As to the food… Well what can I tell you it is as good As you will get anywhere in Dover.

The garden is a lovely place for a cold drink and the people were lovely. Maybe not enough shade but that can't be helped! A good place for a pint.

I often sit in the garden of this pub. Drinks are not expensive. They have made some effort with covid regulations

What a great pub - parking tight but Morrison's car park literally 1 minute walk. It is what it is - a good local pub with friendly and very helpful staff, a lovely pub pooch behind the bar, great fire, and lots of space to clap along to the band that was playing when we were there. Limited drinks selection but it is a pub - not wine bar or fancy cocktail place (although they do have quite a few gins) Recommend popping in - not from Dover - will feel happy to walk in there again any time of the day and am sure of a warm welcome.

Went in on a Saturday night, the barman was attentive. But there was a little boy no older than 18 months old walking around crying, he looked so tired. No one was taking much notice of him. Then put him in his push chair to get him to sleep. It just made me feel like i was in a bad dream watching a poor lad needing his bed while adults carried on drinking. Made me leave in the end. As a mother of 2 boys I could never do that.

The red lion is one of the best pubs in Dover. Staff are really friendly and helpful,recommend it 100%

As any pub should be: good food, affordable prices, nice atmophere and Saturday night live music. A good place to spend your evening.

Food great, reasonably priced too, very nice !

Popped in for a pint to see what the pub was like. Friendly lady behind the bar. Took our pints outside to the lovely, big garden which was nice and quiet. Would be a real sun trap when the sun is out. Has a bowling alley and a big covered area for the smokers. Lots of tables and benches. Inside is oldy worldy but clean. Clean toilets too. Will definitely be returning again , maybe on a Sunday to try their roast dinners.

Nice place to have a drink with friends

Visited today for our fourth family get together at this pub; we booked weeks in advance and 20 of us descended on Mother’s Day for a great 3 course lunch. The food is all freshly prepared and the roast dinner is proper home cooked grub. Each course is of a decent size and the puddings are so good, especially the chocolate cake. The price is also very reasonable, Nikki and her team really looked after us as always; big compliments have to go to the chef

Really enjoyed mother’s day roast. We had a very large party and the meals arrived rapidly and hot. Cooked to perfection and very tasty. I had beef which was tender. Pork had good reviews as did all the puds.

Good selection of beers and lager

A fight broke out unfortunately however the staff evicted the individuals without any further injuries. Merry Christmas!
