Living in Deal, I often come to Dover and started coming here about a year ago. Run by husband and wife..obviously many regulars and they seem pleased to see everyone..a very welcoming atmosphere. Excellent cafe food, well priced. Today I had a large bowl of really good vegetable soup..obviously home made. It’s a pleasure to visit !

A very friendly welcome awaits you in this pleasant medium size café. Very good coffee here. Full English breakfast with everything you expect, very precisely cooked and well plated. Fine sausages and eggs beautifully done. Omelette with cheese, mushroom and bacon was superb. Omelettes are not easy to do well but the chef in Chaplains has the knack. We also enjoyed a toasted tea cake and jam, fresh butter and quality jam. We also had toast and marmalade. Great bread beautiful marmalade. Made to feel welcome on our first visit will be back here again and soon!

This cafe is run by a very hard working team. Possibly a family affair. The product and the service tell you that they really care and are motivated to succeed. All the best to them I say! Second time now I've taken my parents there when I visit them in Dover. It certainly won't be the last.

A lovely restaurant situated near the church in Dover town centre. Quiet environment very clean. Helpful waitress who very efficient and helpful. The food was excellent we had a breakfast and alternative ingredient was available if there was something you didn’t want. Well cooked presented lovely. Highly recommended

As always breakfast is delicious! Hubby has large, me regular. Nobody does breakfast like Chaplin's! Great food, great people, friendly service. Their Sunday roasts served daily are also delicious & come in small & regular. Well worth a visit. 👍

I had brunch there with two chums this week and what a lovely experience. Full veggie options - my chum had a big veggie breakfast and it was superb - and a proper traditional yet interesting menu. And the people were really lovely, warm, friendly, helpful. The chef even made me an extra egg as the yolk on the first one broke...they were delightful. The food was perfect. Coffee hot, strong and quick! I recommend it absolutely. Will be going back.

We've been to many places for breakfast and hotels across the world..nobody has come close to the full English you get in Chaplin's Cafe in Dover. I have the regular, hubby has the large. Absolutely delicious & the fried bread is second to none. You must try it! Owner & Staff are efficient and friendly & always a happy atmosphere. Does a varied menu & their roasts & puddings are really delicious too.

A lovely little cafe in the heart of Dover with all things Charlie Chaplin themed! Food was great and served quickly with a smile. Tables were spaced out adhering to social distancing as well as being consistently cleaned and sanitiser offered upon arrival and leaving....

My wife went here on the 18th of november for breakfast and it was amazing friendly front of house the chef bought our food to the table we both ordered the large breakfast and omg bacon crispy on the edges nice thick cut proper sausages...

Started out day with a fry up from the. Cage it has a zing theme which I think every cafe should have had a fry up and coffee. The waiter was friendly funny and caring. Let us stay in while rain stopped Would go again...

I visited this restaurant with 12 other people from my family on the 15th December 2018. When we arrived we were made very welcome and even though there was so many of us the service we received was absolutely superb. The lady who took our orders was very friendly and the food we received came very quickly and was really nice. All our order was correct and I would certainly recommend this place to everyone.

We came here for breakfast before our cruise departed. It’s a quaint place with delicious food. Our serve was very personable and funny. We each had the Large Breakfast and copious amounts of coffee. The food was delicious and gave us a great start to our day.

Chaplin's was a wonderful place to start our afternoon in Dover. My wife and I enjoyed the Large Breakfast which was cooked very well and a delicious Brie, Ham and Jam sandwich. The host was welcoming and a great conversationalist. We Highly recommend a visit before a nice walk around the castle or nearby white cliffs. Top Notch work!

Came across this place last Sunday lunchtime. Noticed that it was quite busy at noon and that they did roast dinners. Menu was reasonable for choice and not expensive. Liked the fact they had two sizes of roast. We chose the small lamb and the chicken. It was a good meal and glad we chose the small.

The value at this restaurant is great for breakfast. All 4 of us left full and ready for the day. There was a good mix of locals and tourists at the restaurant.

A dependable place for a roast lunch, but you have to decide whether large is too much, or like me opt for cottage pie which is one size. Dishes cooked in about 15 minutes, with one waitress, who made most conversation with a Polish customer. Cutlery is clean, and drinks can be combined, so lemon and lime is mainly a can plus a lime top up from a bottle. Sit anywhere and allow for an hour if you also want a sweet off the blackboard - mine was peach melba but the fruit pavlova might be a future choice. The 3 courses came to £12, but breakfast combos would be less. The café is just round the corner from Market Square near the British Heart Foundation store.

Este restaurante sirve una comida excelente y a buen precio. Era caliente y era adecuada para nosotros que tienen un modesto apetito. Nos quedamos muy contentos con su presentación y sabía encantador. Se comparaban favorablemente con nuestra habitual asados toby. Bien vale la pena si estás en Dover.

Este es un restaurante bastante caro que sirve desayuno, almuerzo y cena. Hay mejores lugares para comer que son también más escénico que este.

Este fue mi primer desayuno Inglés nunca, así que no puedo comparar, pero estaba bien! Yo tenía el desayuno vegetariano, que sólo estaba disponible como un grande. Me mantuvo completo para el resto del día. Realmente.

Being tourists we went in early morning for a quick drink and possible breakfast. I made the cardinal sin of going to touch the drink fridge. Wow - beware the fridge! As I was about to touch the handle the waitress came from the kitchen and went between the fridge and me. I was then sternly advised that we weren't to touch it! I decided I didn't want a cold drink and my partner and I opted for two espresso coffees. We waited for what seemed like an eternity for the coffee and it came in two large mugs. Espresso it was not! The waitress wasn't the friendliest and she certainly didn't like having it explained to her that she got our order for coffee mixed. The coffee tasted like the motel coffee satchels, with a touch of burnt, at least it was hot.

Have eaten here many times when shopping in the town. Vegetarian breakfast is very nice and good value.

Had a lovely breakfast here and being a fussy eater, they made it as I requested and checked that it was to my liking. Good value I thought and pleasant staff. Happily return.

Åt frukost här (är ett av få ställen som öppnar tidigt) innan vi åkte till White Cliffs. Trevlig personal och mycket god frukost. Lokalen i sig kändes väll inget speciellt, men var en del locals där som gav en väldigt genuin känsla och inte så "turistig" känsla som det annars ibland kan vara.

I decided to stop by Chaplin's, a café close by my flat, for a coffee and croissant at about 08h30 on a Monday, waiting for the shops to open at 09h00. Chaplin's logo is a Charlie Chaplin hat and walking stick.All I wanted was a coffee and croissant (I'd lived in Europe proper for too long before retiring), but I found the menu was defiantly English, offering breakfast options that seemed to me to guarantee an early death: menu items to die for, as it were.So I opted for a cappuccino and a "fruit scone". The cappuccino was not bad, and the fruit scone was pleasant but very filling, coming with three tablets of butter. It was a perfectly enjoyable experience, (largely because of the welcoming stance of the proprietor) but I would have preferred something rather lighter (such as a croissant) at that time of the day.The Czech-born proprietor, in place for two years, was cheerful and hard-working, and his establishment was spotless. The prices were very reasonable. And I know that generally, throughout the day, in all seasons, a lot of customers come and enjoy eating there.However, it is not a place for those who are concerned about controlling their weight, or following a healthy diet - at breakfast-time, anyway.

Visited Chaplins this weekend with a friend and my partner for breakfast. The food was mediocre, I had the vegetarian breakfast which came with vegetable sausages not the usual Quorn or Linda McCartney and they were really very unappetising, also the eggs were undercooked and a little slimy for my liking. The other people I was with enjoyed their meals but felt the food was only average, especially for the price as I know another place locally where you can have as much cooked and continental breakfast as you can eat for the same price at a similar quality of food. The mugs for the tea and coffee were stained, giving the impression of uncleanliness.The service was very good however, the food was very quick to come out and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Worth the 20 minute wait. Leeks and potato soup, fish and chips, British beef pie and a panini. Amazing food and great service!

Stopped there for lunch and waited ages for finally very average lunch that should have been coming out quicker as mostly pre-cooked, reasonnably priced but wished we had stopped elsewhere as we ended up running for our ferry.

Assuming that ownership has changed. Used to visit fairly regularly several years ago when it was owned by the father of my son's school friend. Breakfasts were good, the carvery was good and excellent value. Visited on a Sunday lunch time, did not recognise any of the waiting staff. Menu seemed the same although prices had increased. We ordered 2 turkey sunday lunches, a lamb sunday lunch, an all day breakfast and a "home made" burger. Turkey lunches were OK, nothing special, I enjoyed my lamb sunday lunch, all came with plenty of veg, but the same gravy. Al day breakfast was not really enjoyed, suasages were described as being very cheap budget sausages and not enjoyed. Burger however was enjoyed and described as very good.Prices have definitely increased, food probably not as good as it was previously.

Used to go here a lot years back, has it changed hands? Now how weird is this the small breakfast and a coffee come to £6.30 the big breakfast with free coffee £6.50 so like how does that make sense. I am sorry but it was poor poor value. I like real coffee and mine wasn't. The food was hot, but the beans tasteless value range I would guess. I want asked if my meal was okay and the staff were lukewarm at best. So why is it so popular, it's beyond me as all the other places I have been in town were better value.

It is a small cafe with friendly staffs. The ambiance inside was cozy and welcoming. You will love the vintage decoration in the cafe, especially those related to Charlie Chaplin. I ordered vegetarian breakfast for two days and I loved every bite of it. The service was fast, food was marvelous and price was good. If I ever set my foot on Dover's soil again, I will definitely come back to Chaplin.

Bank Holiday; places to eat closed - and then we found Chaplins. The menu is quite extensive for such a small place, we were extremely well fed and, in spite of arriving shortly before closing time, we were not put under any pressure to hurry.

we went there for breakfast on the first day of our trip and it was great so the next day went back for the roast dinner had the bellypork was all perfectly cooked just like at home well done next time we will be back

Since the Happy Chef no longer in business and passing the area, also the Honey Pot shut on a Sunday, next door Chaplins looked and was a great alternative. A very simple small cafe situated in the heart of the shopping area, with a free car park close (on Sunday's) myself and my Girlfriend settled for a regular roast dinner each which was more than enough. The chicken I had was excellent and the lamb my girlfriend had was equally good. Good portions, fresh veg, and delicious gravy. Friendly service and a very reasonably priced, a definite place to find if that bit hungry and fresh off the Ferry or visiting the castle.

Not many choices in the menu made me simple and comfortable. He helped me to order a typical british meal for a rainy evening. The "Soup of the day" was impressive for a starter. Kind chef made me laugh until i finish a dinner with drinking a black tea.Good place and british home style meal with inexpensive price.

We first came here off the back of a Tripadvisor review which said it was the best breakfast in Dover. Well, the reviewer was SO right! The location does not promise well, but believe me the food makes up for it. Nothing fancy, but beautifully freshly cooked breakfast, with every part on top form. Just as it should be in the gateway to England - a proud advertisement of the Great British Breakfast! Do try the bubble - it is real bubble, made from yesterday's leftover veg. To die for.

We visited Chaplins on a Monday lunchtime. It was not too busy so no problem getting a table. The waitress was friendly, welcoming and attentive. We ordered the turkey roast and the nut roast which came with plenty of vegetables & vegetarian gravy for the nut roast, both roasts were delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. The food was excellent value for money. We will definitely be returning to try some of the other options on the menu. Another bonus is that it is within a short walk of a car park, ideal for my husband who is unable to walk far.

This was a diner somewhere in downtown Dover, with about 10 tables.I ordered the Ham & Cheese Panini and chocolate shake. And Wow! For a tiny little diner type place in the heart of Dover I was very surprised at the quality of the food. The waitress and the cook. The Panini was excellent with lots of ham and cheese. The chocolate milkshake was equally surprising. If you ever find yourself in Dover England and need a place for lunch it is really good. Not quick, but good.Cost was about 7BP

Stopped for coffe in the morning and the owner/cook was rude.Walked by at lunch time and, while all the other restaurants in the vicinty were packed. Chaplins wasn't even 1/3 full (understandable). Waited to get into Eight Bells, a much better choice.

The new owners have found their feet and Chaplins is back :- good home cooked food and good cheerful service with resonable prices. We all had the roast lunch and no one was disappointed, good selection of fresh vegitables served on several thick slices of roast turkey with cranberry jelly. Excellent.

We startten ons tripje naar Canterbury met een eerste stop in Dover om er te ontbijten. We werden er heel vriendelijk onthaald en bediend. Het ontbijt was helemaal zoals het moet zijn voor een heel democratische prijs. We vonden het een super start van onze dag!

This restaurant has recently changed hands and I think the seating arrangements are so much better now. Had a breakfast there recently and it was served very quickly and was very nice.

How delicious is cheese and tomato toasted sandwich after long travel and walk around in very cold and windy weather! Coffee hot and nice, service smiled. Prices great.

Went to chaplins today with 3 other people for breakfast.The service was fantastic, really really friendly and funny. Gave a real welcoming feel. All of us had a fry up, great value, right size and the waiter had no problems swapping a few items for different things, washed down with a lovely cuppa. Only 4 stars because the fried bread was far to oily. But apart from that, all was ace.

So pleased to have poped in for coffee with hubby, ended up having a 3 course Xmas meal, and was very pleased. 1st course was soup and it was lovely and freshly made, 2nd we both had turkey and all the trimmings, the turkey was so moist and tender and the veg was perfectly cooked 3rd course I had profittoroles, which I was informed by the owner( who is very welcoming) was home made by the chef, who also spoke to us and was very nice and polite, they were lovely and chocolate sauce to die for. All in all was a great unexpected treat. Will look forward to going back.

nice looking restaurant great service but the food is terible apsolutely discusting everything was swimming in gravy tasteless carrots some pink looking mash roast potatos cooked for few hours as they were hard and empty the chef tall guy needs a wash for sure looked very dirty filthy clothes and needs some cooking lessons carvery forget it no good meat available actualy none at all they advertise carvery but dont sell any what a shame avoid avoid

Woeful service. We were sorry to have to inconvenience the waitress with an order of a cheese baguette and a cheese panini, both of which she managed to get wrong. The third order contained what can only be described as chilli with a few lumps of sugar; no need for dessert then!Less Chaplin, more Hitler.

Reccomended by friends as a nice small place well situated in the town centre. My experience was warm welcome by staff, good quality freshly made breakfast for reasonable price and quick service. I definitely would visit this place again.

Although I wouldn't consider this the best place to eat breakfast in Dover it's not the worst. I do feel, however, it's a bit crowded as far as table spacing is concerned. The food is of a reasonable standard and the service good.

We were greeted very warmly in this small restaurant and when our meals arrived, it was a very pleasant surprise. Quick service but very freshly cooked meals with REAL vegetables. A real treat with friendly service from both the chef and waiter. A lovely surprise.

Popped in for a late lunch after hiking around the cliffs. Needed something cheap and easy and this was a pleasant surprise. Lovely staff, and delicious hot roast with fresh veges. Felt like a home cooked meal. Didn't take too long which was good because we needed to continue along our travels.

The two of us wanted a lunch including real vegetables like cabbage , and I thought of Chaplins just off the Market Square. The ground floor restaurant has waitress service and a corridor of tables each side of the door. Service is more than twice the speed of my last venue, with the kitchen just behind the central till with a servery opening. Soon after midday the restaurant was filling up steadily, with a slight space problem for someone bringing in a pushchair. We are not asked to state if anywhere is disabled friendly, but someone in a wheelchair might prefer to eat elsewhere, although the food was excellent My friend and I had cottage pie and veg, he a glass of water , myself a lemon and lime. A good range of hot meals on a printed menu and not over expensive, Offered a sweet but declined. Nobody coming in thought to close the door, so beware the draught until the staff notice!

Don,t come here if you are expecting pretentious food but do come here if you want good home cooked tasty food followed by a decent cup of coffee . If you are here for the traditional lunch unless you have a massive appetite have the small roast then you will have room for the dessert. (always a homemade fruit crumble or pie on the specials board)

Visited September 14 in a party of 3 looking for a nice meal mid afternoon and we were pleasantly surprised. Great home cooked food that tasted fantastic. The food was some of the best we tasted during a 3 week trip all over Britain. I wish I could go more often but alas I live in Canada.

We went here as it has good ratings here on TA. I had the roast chicken, which was nice (though not as amazing as other reviews would have had me believe), and they gave me extra gravy which was a nice touch. My boyfriend's breakfast was fine, though not outstanding.However, I ordered an espresso, but what I got was filter coffee. My boyfriend's milkshake definitely tasted like Nesquik. Dover city centre isn't exactly filled with excellent places to eat, so this probably is one of the better choices, but the drinks were certainly disappointing.

Locale trovato per caso e consigliamo di provare.Abbiamo ordinato la cottage pie, (vedi foto) devo dire che era buono. Piatto tipico Inglese che mi è molto piaciuto. Due porzioni con 2 birre ed un caffè è costato 20£. Meglio di così. L'ambiente poi è molto carino.

Na een plens dag in Dover hier gaan lunchen. Personeel is super, sfeer in cafe wat minder niet echt gezellig .....Eten is goed, curry was pittig maar lekker en huis gemaakt!
