T & Thistle in Portsmouth

I’m not sure if they have new staff if or all other reviews were by family /friends?? We visited this morning and to be honest the service was awful, 4 of our party had finished their breakfast before the 5th member had been served and then we had to remind them. Food was served on cold plates and was at best luke warm. Hash browns were soggy and greasy, Garlic flavoured soggy mushrooms??? And when a partial refund was requested the manager who was not on site refused!! A little short sighted if you want to keep your customers 3 of us have eaten here a few times but due to the above will never eat here again and probably take our custom to the cafe directly opposite.

Lovely mocha, will deffo return for that. Tasty food, nice inside. I would say I have had better for value sharing boards elsewhere but it was tasty. Everyone else enjoyed their meals. We all said we would return and we eat out a lot, so thumbs up No 6

The cafe/ bar is so lovely inside with gorgeous decor & really really comfortable seating for all. You know sometimes you go somewhere and you’re fighting for that comfy padded seat on the back wall… no need here! Any place around a table you might sit is comfortable, maybe even the table itself who knows! The food was lovely, we missed the breakie menu sadly but the host was amazing in trying to accommodate my son in something he would enjoy that included his favourites and who knew children could eat for £1! BARGAIN! I had the sweet pancake stack, I would always opt for a cooked breakie but these were recommended by the host and they didn’t disappoint! My son had a strawberry milkshake which they made on site… no carton job there! & they were so interactive with him with it, it made his day all the more special. Thank you for the lovely food & brilliant service. We will be sure to return!

Excellent family run business. Looked after 3 adults a baby and a well behaved dog. Served us a full English breakfast even though it was after 12.00 and menu had switched to lunch menu. Everything beautifully cooked and well presented. Highly recommended.

Have visited this cafe/bar a number of times and never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and make you feel very welcome. The decor is modern with a contemporary feel. On one wall is a mural by a local artist. i am told it is based a Audrey Hepburn. The food is tasty and plentiful. I recommend you try my favourite the Eggs Benedict The coffee is great from a smooth latte to pick-me-up Americano. The venue also offers hire for birthday parties and baby showers etc and provides a cozy feel with a fully stocked bar. And furthermore its dog friendly

I don’t usually write reviews but I wanted to come on here and express how disappointed and appalled by my time here. My food was bland and the portion sizes is what really pushed me over the edge, it seems the full english is the only thing which is actually filling. My meal was absolutely tiny and could probably feed a child, yet it was very expensive and honestly not worth it. It’s such a shame because the interior and vibe of this place is so cute and cozy but the food simply ruins the experience. I wouldn’t waste your money here if you’re expecting to be full up.

Recommended for a breakfast stop which did not disappoint. Food was excellent with well cooked locally sourced produce. Coffee was stop on and the service was faultless. Good VFM and I would not hesitate to highly recommended to all. Get out there and pay them a visit you will not be disappointed.

My first and last visit to this place. Very unfriendly atmosphere. The guy seems to be a headless chicken behind the counter and very abrupt to customers and his own staff, (bullying in my eyes tbh) - food that did come out was ok though.

Popped in for a filling sandwich for lunch.. my husband had the bacon/brie and cranberry toastie with salad ( green leaves only) I had the ham & mustard bagel... for over £6 I was expecting some decent ham .. not 2 wafer thin packet slices.....

Wow. Passed this place many times whilst driving but today decided to check it out. We had crumpet with marmite and smashed avocado with tomatoes on sourdough toast. Well worth a visit. It was delicious

A nice coffee shop offering nice coffee, smoothies, great cakes and small meals and has a bar. Friendly welcoming service and a nice place to sit and sup. Try it , you'll probably like it.

We live locally and often drop in for either just a coffee, breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. A great team who work hard and always give a lovely welcome, no matter how busy it is. Scottish shortbread with the coffee is a lovely touch, and so light and tasty. My husband loves the panini with haggis. A great choice of cakes, including vegan cookies.

If you’re looking for an eaterie with a chilled, laid back & comfortable atmosphere, with delicious mouth watering offerings, then you’ve hit the jackpot! T & Thistle has a generously sized setting with plenty of space between tables (so nice not to feel cramped!) Also...

Lovely decor and a nice atmosphere but the food is pretty awful. We ordered smashed avacado with spinach, tomatoes and chilli jam on toast. The avocado was hard, the toast hadn't been buttered and the spinach hadn't been cooked. The waitress seemed a bit embarrassed...

Been coming here for a while now. By far the best cafe in Portsmouth (maybe the whole country). The staff are great, the cakes amazing and the drinks are fab. A must visit for people trying to relax on the weekend!

My favourite local coffee/tea house. I live near to T and Thistle and its a great place to pop in to any time of day. I’ve visited with family and by myself for tea and cake, popped in for iced coffee and had breakfast several times. Really good value, tasty food and good service. There is a range of seating, low sofas too, and it is very relaxed.

Wow this was a lovely find especially if you want delicious teas and a breakfast with a difference. I had smashed advocado with crispy bacon on toast and poached egg and my husband had smoked salmon scrambled eggs on bagels. Cooked beautifully and in a lovely quaint cafe. Will definitely be going back next visit.

I thought I’d go for a quiet Saturday morning coffee after a busy week- no chance! Queen and a variety of disco hits blaring - playlist really didn’t match the venue and became very annoying it was so loud. Tried to listen to an online seminar with earphones instead - couldn’t hear it over the music. Interestingly last song before I left was “drives me crazy”....hmmm! Coffee was ok although could have done with being hotter.

Stopped for lunch after running the Great South Run last weekend. The cafe is Scottish themed but it’s a gentle theme, not over the top. I love haggis so seeing haggis, cheese and spinach pannini on the specials board just made my afternoon. And it was also at a bargain price of £5.00! Really tasty. The cafe itself is nice and spacious with good seating mixture. The bonus is that they sell alcohol too :-) if I wasn’t driving, I’d have a celebratory whiskey.

Good cafe to come to for breakfast and a coffee, nice and clean with friendly staff. A bit of the beaten track but well worth seeking out.

First time visit to this cafe with a tartan twist, and seriously impressed coffee is great almost too much to choose from on the menu, great service. Would heartily recommend.

I first visited this lovely coffee shop with my sister and my 4 year old niece. From the moment I walked in, I loved the feel of this place. The decor is very rustic, the floor is gorgeous and the feel of the place is very relaxing and unique. I couldn't stop looking at the furniture! The range of food and drinks on the menu was fantastic and lunch didn't disappoint. We had a sharing platter which was absolutely delicious and in all honesty, reminded me of a time when I had lunch in Paris! Wonderful feel to the place, very friendly and helpful staff to whom it was lovely to chat to. I then went again a second time with my partner and again, had a lovely time. I notice that this coffee shop has a licence to serve alcohol so I am really looking forward to coming back in the evening perhaps to enjoy a nice glass of wine! Thank you to everybody for making my visits wonderful!

I found this little coffee shop and what a delight. The staff are amazing and really friendly. Coffee fantastic. Please try the Eggs Benedict melt in your mouth. You get great service always smiling. The coffee is better than Costa. Can’t forget the delightful cakes, my guilty pleasure is the carrot cake. They certainly brighten up your day. I fully recommend for everyone to try this. Great atmosphere please carry on the excellent work that you are doing.

So we normally go to the merchant house across the road but we rarely get a table on a Friday or Saturday night and it’s loud in there. Last night we had the same problem and so wandered over to T&Thistle with the doggo and what a find! Great drinks selection and very reasonable prices. A bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc for £14! 2-4-£10 cocktails between 5&8pm! Wonderful friendly chilled vibe. Not pretentious or stuffy and a lovely venue. I liked it so much we went back tonight for some food... Italian platter to die for! Great service and draws in a friendly bunch of people. See you next weekend!

Found this lovely little place while England playing a game so had the place to ourselves! Light lunch and service was good.

We went today and was supposed to pop in to the Merchant House, but this wasn’t open. On crossing the road to the T & Thistle, straight away the lady was happy to help. They more than met our needs, and provided a lovely brunch. The homemade hummus with seeds on top was lovely, as was our sharing platter. Thanks, look forward to poppin in one evening!

First time trying out this café - it's bigger inside than it looks from the outside! The sofa by the windows is comfortable and there are plenty of tables and chairs. Nice music playing in the background. Gluten free cakes on offer and a selection of milk alternatives for hot drinks. The tables and floor are nice and clean and service with a smile :-)

Just come back from a lovely breakfast which is served till 1pm. I had eggs benedict and it was great, good coffee and a good selection of cakes and other sweet treats.

I’ve been to T and Thistle a few times and love it there. A lovely place for a healthy treat and good for vegetarians. The smoothies are amazing - the ‘Green one’ especially. Its very welcoming towards children and our children are very happy, comfortable and entertained whenever we go. The staff are very keen to please and are willing to make adjustments to meals which is very important for me as my children are very fussy. Thanks T and Thistle - look forward to coming again.

I had high hopes for T & Thistle from recommendations and social media. So having been housebound with the snow, I dragged the family including toddler and dog down to Southsea for tea and cake. The cafe itself was really pretty and the selection of teas were great. Unfortunately the staff that were on didn’t look like they wanted to be there, no personality or enthusiasm. Our cakes arrived before our coffees which ended up being cold. I asked for a babycino for my little girl but on hearing the conversations, I’m not sure anyone knew what one was or indeed how to make one. The cold cup of milk proved that. It’s obviously a very popular meeting place so I was really disappointed with our experience.

We have been here once before not long after it first opened. Our group enjoys many cafes in the area, most of them on Albert Rd. Some of us had cake and some had breakfasts or toasties and some just had a drink. I had a toastie, apparently very popular choice on this Sunday morning. We were a table of 9 and the staff kindly pushed tables together, I always book in advance which is advisable for a group of our size. Everyone enjoyed their breakfasts and teas and we'll be back in the future for our third visit.

This is one of the best places for a cappuccino and it’s just around the corner from where we live. Dropping in on the way back from buying a newspaper is becoming a habit. We’ve also had panini, sandwiches and cakes - all have been excellent and freshly prepared. Really friendly service too.

I went here for the first time last weekend. I had chorizo beans on a bed of fresh spinach (not cooked) on wholemeal toast with a poached egg on the top. It was the best breakfast ever. Even beat my old favourite Breakfast Boxty!

I might be incorrect in calling this a coffee shop, we went there for a couple of drinks and sunk in to the comfortable sofa.My espresso was sharp and bitter as it should be, water on the side and a little biscuit.Some friendly banter with the staff plus a polite and efficient service.We only had drinks so can't comment on anything else they do here. Will definitely be returning as it was a pleasant experience and what you would hope for.This will be a good alternative from those big branded coffee shops.

I am a bit of a coffee snob but I really enjoyed the cappuccino I had today. Correctly made, not a latte in a cup like most places and with a rich espresso base. I also had eggs royale which tasted lovely with soft, although not runny eggs and plenty of salmon. I’d say £2.50 for the coffee is fair and £6.50 for the eggs is good value.

I have no idea what Scottish tea is and didn't even know it was a 'thing' but as cafes go among the mass of coffee shops and "greasy spoons" of Albert Road this one is worth a visit.Service, price and location are all fine with the pavement seating a good alternative to the airy inside on a warm day. Dog friendly.

It's a shame as it's a nice cafe to sit in however the service is lacking in personality a nice smile and hello goes a long way as well as being efficient. I personally think £5 for a cheese and ham sandwich that doesn't even have butter is too high. Also £3 for a small hot chocolate with an extra 30p if u want cream.....People wonder why you go to Costa, it's cheaper and better.Shame I like to support independent cafes.

I visited this Cafe with my friends three months ago. We had such a delicious breakfast before going to the beach. It's a quite place with professional service. It was busy at that time but we didn't wait at all for taking our orders.I went for an single espresso and carrot cake. Since it seemed not to be enough, I asked for the muffin....well, what can I say more ?delicious memories :p

Had the eggs Benedict (served with bacon not ham) and a cinnamon roll, both of which were delicious. Great food menu and good selection of teas and coffees.I also liked the decor - it's homely and quaint but spacious.

Visited T & Thistle as a stop to the beach. Certainly what is needed at this part of Southsea. We had the cream tea, which was nice but could've have benefited with a warm scone and better jam, especially when other places on the same road offer that at the same price. Other than that it is very baby/child friendly and the decor and ambience is great!

I have be honest and say that when I began to review this Cafe and noticed the high marks already given, I wondered if they were truly justified. However, I am pleased to say, that having visited this new incarnation where a previous cafe existed, I echo the other scores. Friendly and welcoming with a selection of seating available plus very fair pricing. The menu is wide ranging and the Moonroast Coffee, smooth and well presented. I will certainly return with friends to enjoy both the drinks and the excellent crumpets.

Tasty food and best coffee I have had in a long while. Baby friendly with lots of high chairs and baby led weaning menu options and pouches available. Although I resisted the cakes on offer look amazing! Definitely will return!!

My husband and I visited for breakfast and really enjoyed it. It's very sensibly priced and the coffee is excellent. The food we had was really nice too. The cakes looked delicious, although we didn't try any. We brought our dog too and they were more than happy for him to be there. Lovely decor, good atmosphere and nice people serving. Dog-friendly (with free dog biscuits!), excellent coffee and stunning cakes, this is simply a "must-visit" place. Recently opened, it provides a welcome café-scene in this part of Southsea. There are plans to open in the evenings as well so that will be for another review. The cakes were offered in sizeable portions at really sensible prices, the staff were friendly and the environment is welcoming and comfortable. They also offer gluten free bread and cakes, and soya milk or skimmed milk if you want - simply ask. A great place to visit

Just what the East side of Albert Road needs, a welcoming and friendly coffee lounge with good coffee and food. Such an improvement from Shabby Chic. The interior is decorated well, staff are friendly and music is good. Ideal!
