Brewhouse & Kitchen - Southsea in Portsmouth

If they can’t be bothered to clean the tables properly so I can sit down and order a Sunday lunch then don’t bother. I asked them to please clean my table, as it was smeared with grease and ketchup. No problem it can be sorted….so I thought! He wiped it with a small dry tissue half heartedly and just basically smeared the grease in more and walked off! I just got up and put my jacket back on and left. I’ve emailed the manager as he’s just lost a new customer. We shall see if they respond. Really disappointed as I was looking forward to trying a new Sunday lunch venue. You’ll see by all my other reviews that I’m not a complainer and give 5 stars to those who deserve it!

I came in on a Sunday evening, and ordered their chicken roast. 30 mins wait on food, no problem! Except when the food came out, it was barely hot. The cauliflower cheese was not great. Beef was chewy. I then used the bathroom, it was a mess, the soap and hand cream dispensers broken. Then asked for a takeaway bag and was offered tin foil for a leftover roast? Not to mention the price £40 for two mediocre roasts? Come on?

Did the whisky and beer pairing at Southsea yesterday and the lovely lady who led it was superb and the whole experience far exceeded my expectations!

I visited Brewhouse and Kitchen in Southsea last Sunday, with my family, to enjoy their popular Sunday Roast Dinner's. Delicious, hot, plentiful and full of amazing flavours.....really enjoyed it. The only downside was I was so full, I never got to sample the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Ice Cream i had planned for dessert! We were looked after by a lovely team who didn't stop! Constantly clearing, cleaning and relaying tables, serving and checking if we needed anymore drinks. We didn't feel just a number, as the smiles and bits of banter, showed we were very welcome. Please thank: Nikki Jordan Callum We will definitely return and recommend Brewhouse and Kitchen, Southsea.

Had a really great time with Martin during a Brew day experience brewing the next seasonal lager the Vienna lager.

We had a fantastic experience with Nikkie as our gun expert for our Gin Masterclass. Nikkie was extremely knowledgeable and looked after the two of us very well from start to finish. We learnt a lot about gin; how it’s made, how best to serve, ingredients etc. I would recommend to any gin fan!

Thank you so much for a great evening last night, you were a great find recommended by our taxi driver. The food was absolutely superb equally so was the drink. Cannot thank Joel and Callum enough for helping us all get back to the holiday, you were amazing. I could not expect any service like that anywhere else we will be back.

Pretzel was like concrete. Germans should stay away. So none of the outside heaters worked.

A thoroughly enjoyable day and we even got to sample their current range of beers. I would highly recommend doing this and it is well worth the money. Firts time at the Southsea site, but the atmosphere was great, food superb, beer really good (Pilsner) and the staff were really helpful and friendly. Couldn't ask for more!

As I was unable to attend a family celebration, I called to request some champagne be provided to my daughter and son in law as they and their guests arrived. The person I spoke to was incredibly helpful, and within seconds provided a secure payment link so I could pay for the champagne. A super easy transaction and a they made it a lovely surprise for my daughter and co. Thank you.

Did the beer masterclass today with Jordan. What an amazing afternoon! Jordan’s knowledge of beers as well as her hospitality made the day! Quality beers coupled with expert knowledge made for a great Saturday. I couldn’t recommend this experience enough to anyone regardless of your beer knowledge or experience

Great location, and very pleasurable beer gardens. I would recommend trying the Pipers Sea Salt and Cider Vinger crisps. Go to the bar and ask to speak to Tall Tony and say Miles sent you. He'll see you proper.

Only had a drink but busy and vibrant and lovely sitting in the busy garden. Loved the little beach shacks. Totally recommend Just been back again to Brewhouse & Kitchen for a beer tasting and burger deal. Absolutely delightful. Great beer, all different ones and fabulous food. Totally recommend 5 years on. Lovely staff and ambience. Visited again with friends. Sat in the sunny garden drinking cold cider and eating Mac and cheese and garlic bread. Lovely, food , ambience and staff all great.

Visiting Portsmouth for the weekend and found we were staying just around the corner from this gem. Visited both Friday and Saturday, very dog friendly which was important to us, and the reserved table on Saturday was spot on. Friday was busier than Saturday. Food was flavoursome and good value, although the chicken on the ceaser salad was v dry and overcooked The biggest issue was the gents loos 😱😱 they are atrocious and way too small for a pub this size a real flaw in such an outstanding pub.

We went to the Brewhouse as a family of 6 (4 adults and 2 children) and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful,I had the beercan chicken which was delicious and moist, someone had the chicken schnitzel and found the breadcrumb coating to be a little over cooked, the other 2 adult meals were the bang bang chicken and again this was delicious. The 2 children had the macaroni cheese from the kids menu and they both enjoyed it, what happened is it got served in a skillet and came to the kids by the waitress holdi g it i a tea towel where it was so hot, what I would suggest is you're serving something like that to children maybe in a bowl or a colder plate that way there would be no chance of the young children burning g themselves

The team helped me to book out an area of the pub so I could have a party for my partner, great communication throughout! A lovely pub, great garden, tasty food and generally good vibes. I'd recommend it to all!

After previously having an excellent roast . We were very let down by the quality yesterday. I'm guessing by the time 3.30pm, we were given the last scraps left from the lunch time roast. It was like it had been warmed up in a microwave with bistro granual gravy . Left extremely disappointed.

Booked meal on Sunday 28/7/24 for four adults.Diners need to be aware that they will add a discretionary service charge of 10% to the bill without informing you.One of our party was about to leave a cash tip,into we inspected the till receipt.Very sneaky imo.

Very popular with Real Ale enthusiasts I would think, a large selection brewed on the premises. Sunday lunch times certainly popular, the clamour of customers efficiently and swiftly dealt with by friendly staff. Food was delicious and expertly prepared. Probably best to book a table but some walk ins can be fitted in. Spacious outdoor area with heaters. You can order on your phone with the QR code or at the bar.

We visited for the Brewery experience day. Martins knowledge and enthusiasm was spot on! We had so much fun getting involved and had many great beers to sample. The food was lovely as well. Cannot fault the day and cannot fault Martin. Thank you so much! Definitely recommend.

Really great pub. Busy and buzzing. Good atmosphere. Food portions disappointing. Ordered bacon fries. £8. Turned up and was very small and lacking ingredients.

I can't leave a zero star review but a prominent shouted southsea hospitality venue has no tonic water? Really? Please read, digest and sort yourselves out. No excuses. Poor management/ownership

Martin is a legend! (Magnus) We went for the brewery experience having won it off a Christmas raffle for my fathers birthday. Warm and friendly welcome, great vibes very relaxed. We were given a bacon roll for starters, and a brief introduction then we cracked on brewing! Ive never encountered someone with so much knowledge in brewing and he was super in-depth and answered any questions in great detail. Absolutely amazing. I felt safe and comfortable the entire time. We were given complimentary beers included in our experience, which were so lovely. However it did make the cycle back up portsdown hill all the more challenging. We were then given lunch and I had the fish and chips which was super yummy, the chips were fab and the fish was perfect. We were given 2 free barrels of beer with our experience which I’ve just recently tried and it was excellent. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone.

My first visit here, and won’t be my last, we had a table of 6, our server was Karolina who was amazing, couldn’t do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. Food was lovely, def worth a visit, thanks Karolina x

Came here for a special graduation meal. Karolina made it so much better, we are usuals and will be sad to see her go, brewhouse will be missing such a valuable member of their team. Great food and great beers.

Absolute pleasure eating and drinking here. We enjoyed a delicious lunch Tuesday afternoon. Great food and excellent service. We were served by a lovely lad named Jake, a massive thank you to him for making our trip and visit even better. Could not fault his service and kindness, 10/10 :)

I thought I'd booked for Sunday lunch but I'd somehow managed to book Portsmouth rather than Southsea! Never mine. The staff were very understanding and managed to find us a table anyway. Food was great. Excellent beer selection with many brewed on site. We sat indoors but there was lots of nice looking outside seating in the sunshine. Recommended.

Beer Master Class, booked in for beer master class Jordan, our host was brilliant, very knowledgeable. Great opportunity to try different beers and understand their provenance. Family group stopped on to eat, food was great and good value.

I would like to say thank you to the team at SBK. We visited on 24/6 for lunch.There was a small problem with one part of the order, which was rectified swiftly without fuss. The food was on point(would recommend the steak focaccia.) and the service was excellent.The attention to detail at the venue is brilliant and I would recommend a visit. We will definitely be back!

It was such a lovely vibe, and it was my friends birthday and the staff were so accommodating and made it spacial for her! The food was perfection 👌🏼 the only comment I could is that the croutons in the cesarean salad were stale, but still 10/10

In a group of 16 (booked in advance) Busy Saturday evening, so expecting a slight delay. 45 minutes after taking our order we were told that it had just been sent through to the kitchen??!!! After waiting for 2 HOURS the last meals arrived. The waiter was apologetic, but blaming the kitchen the whole time. The last 2 meals were taken off the bill but the majority of meals took over 1hr30mins. Nice food, but took too long to arrive.

We were given a brewery experience as a Christmas present and chose the Southsea location as it was convenient from the Isle of Wight.The location was lovely, helped by the sunshine and we had an amazing day. Martin the head brewer was brilliant.Very knowledgeable and passionate about what he did and seemed to love sharing it with us.The day was very hands on and came with great food and an endless supply of craft beer.Thanks to all for such an amazing day, sadly we can't come back to sample what we made this time but took some to enjoy at home.Hopefully will return soon!

We came for a Brewers experience, Martin the head brewer met us at the gate, he was very welcoming and took us on a brilliant brewing journey from start to finish. He was funny, informative, kept us engaged throughout. We had great food, great beer and a keg of our choice to take home. Fab time had by all. Thank you.

Cold roasted vegetables is a strange concept to us, peppers maybe but root vegetables seems weird. Waitress did tell us beforehand, so that removed two options that we initially fancied. Had pie with colcannon, was ok, beer can chicken was very dry. Waitress did offer an alternative when we mentioned this though.

A bit overpriced but a good selection of beers. Don't bother using the QR code to order from your table. It's missing half the menu and is very glitchy. My meal was very nice and the large pub garden provided a really great atmosphere in the sun.

We only planned to drop in for a drink with a couple of friends, but decided to have some food as well. As usual for a Friday, it was very lively which made for a great atmosphere and coupled with the usual excellent drinks choice makes this one of my favourite pubs. Unfortunately I do have to have a little moan about the new menu which is much reduced in choice. The burgers were up to their usual high standard, but the fish (and chips) was very greasy for my liking. The service was great as usual though, so altogether still a favourite venue of mine.

Nice staff. Indulged me with a silly request to leave riddle based clues at our table, for us to solve. Last time I visited it was under a different name. The change looks good, and the venue is fairly decent. Would go again.

A complete joke of a place, more piss on the toilet floor than in the toilet. SO over price it's a complete joke, nearly £20 for a Roasted rainbow bow and chips. £4.50 for the chips alone, and they are the thinnest chips you will find, and a rip-off for the amount you get. The main, well that wasn't anything to talk about, just waste of money.

Our server this evening whose name I did not unfortunately get was outstanding, professional and courteous throughout the entirety of our stay! It was a shame that the overall look of the place was spoilt by extension leads and a showroom of different low budget heaters that adorned the walkways! The food main dishes were pleasant enough, however the Parmesan and Rosemary frites lacked a key ingredient, we were politely informed that they were currently out of Rosemary, would’ve been lovely if they had informed us when making that selection, and the seasoned frites also seem to lack any kind of seasoning which had our group questioning where our culinary adventure would take us next, then came dessert and we knew exactly where we would be treated next, chocolate pudding came out in a dish that resembled an ashtray and a pudding that looked like a cow pat, as aesthetically pleasing as this was it tasted ok, the cherry Bakewell slice lacked a quantity of custard befitting this delicacy which was also served in an ashtray! As for drinks I played it safe with a cider, there were many craft beers on offer however not one to have much worldly experience with craft beers I was limited on choice and didn’t fancy a pint of ale of unknown quantity, and was unwilling to spend £6-£7 on a pint of something that may well have been fruity, bitter or something that tasted like an old ladies armpit, so it would’ve of been nice to of had something available that was more familiar. However I may well be to blame for my inexperienced palate on craft ales which I have to except is my own fault! In summary great service, mediocre food, and a delightful taste of the unknown on beverages and a health and safety heating trip hazard waiting to happen! Would totally recommend this place to everyone from Southampton

We attended a whisky&beer taster experience with a choice of meal included. It involved 5 different whisky’s matched with 5 craft beers. This was part of a birthday gift. Martin the head master brewer presented the experience, we were extremely pleased with the experience and Martin’s knowledge and would thoroughly recommend this menu. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Where do I start…bar staff lovely, food server on the other hand, not so pleasant, kicked us off Our table early I’m assuming due to poor planning, we had to cut our evening short because she did not have control of the restaurant didn’t offer us any sauce with our meals and was very ignorant and rude ! I will not be returning the one in guild hall is much better !

We went to this pub with friends and to do their quiz night. The dinner menu looked great - burgers, steaks etc and the service excellent. Joel our waiter was very helpful and was quick to offer alternatives for the one dish that wasn't available. A good experience made better by great service.

We have visited the Brewhouse and Kitchen in Southsea infrequently but have never been disappointed. Great craft beers (The oxymoronic Black IPA being my favourite), excellent food and exemplary service...thank you Joel.

Still excellent. It's now appropriately busy. Beer is excellent as ever and the menu is full of simple favourites. It gets ridiculously busy at the weekend. BOOKING NECESSARY

Family meal. Service started well, but when one staff member finished his shift it all went sideways. Food was ok, & thats being fair. Portions were on the small side & poorly presented. It was overpriced for what it was. Lots of people being turned away for food although restaurant was 90% empty and got quieter- 6.30-7pm on a saturday evening! Waited ages for staffs attention even though we were seated in front of them. Couldve easily walked out without paying & they wouldnt have noticed. Think twice before visiting!

I have given reviews in the past that ithis is the pub that "cares" and also the pub with that "extra" and after our lad visit I have to review that it is the pub that is " consistent " consistent in offering professional service to the customers Consistent in the quality of the food and friendly approach from its staff. Thank you again to managet, waiters and barstaff, your service as always is consistent.

We turned up intending on having a meal but the bar area was packed. Euan & Sophie found us a table in the restaurant where we had a great meal. Thank you both.

Went with family. Didn't have a reservation but it was no problem. Sat near the copper stills but glad to say there was no yeasty smell, a horrible smell I remember from my childhood, shopping in a town with a brewery. Food was absolutely delicious, the chicken was moist and tender. Hubby was guided towards a beer that turned out to be so nice he ordered more. A little bit expensive but well worth it.

International Women's Day at the Brewhouse and Kitchen was a fantastic day. Martin the master brewer showed us all the intricacies of beer making. He was very informative and engaging. Jordan, Marik, Kieran and Dave looked after us really well, providing us with a delicious breakfast, lunch and never ending beer! On top of that great company - A perfect Friday! Thank you.

Great place. In the summer there is loads of outdoor seating. In the winter the inside is lovely and cosy and there are blankets etc if you still want to sit outside. We only had drinks, but it was a great experience. Quiz night on a Monday night too!

We visited on Mother's Day lunch-time, and were unfortunately delayed by an accident on the motorway. I called up to let them know, and despite it clearly being a busy day, they were very understanding and accommodating, and confirmed the table would be held for a couple of hours. On arrival we were greeted by name (when I apologised for being late), and shown to our table. Every member of staff who dealt with us was friendly & professional. Our main server was wonderful. We ordered steaks, fish & chips, burger and a roast dinner. The food was all very good, and drinks were replenished frequently. Only a couple of us managed a pudding, but those that did enjoyed them. All in all I can't fault anything, and I would recommend this venue to anyone.

My client is a disabled person who realised there was a fly stuck at the bottom of his pint glass after he had finished his drink. The staff were so rude they wouldn't even apologise, and blamed it all on us. Please avoid.

An extremely great pub with incredible staff and owners who allowed a large group of university students to not only film throughout the morning into the afternoon but were extremely accommodating to all of us. Would recommend to everyone and will definitely be going there again. Special thanks to all the staff members and the owner for being such great hosts!

Joined in event on IWD2024 for a Brewing Ale experience. I can honestly say it was a fabulous day with friends. Plenty of tasting options, aligned with fab knowledge from our 'Brewer' makes for a fun filled day all round. And in a month we can go back and taste what we have made, so whats not to love. If you fancy a day out - you can get a group together and try it for yourself. I recommend it.
