Brewhouse & Kitchen - Southsea in Portsmouth

Where do I start…bar staff lovely, food server on the other hand, not so pleasant, kicked us off Our table early I’m assuming due to poor planning, we had to cut our evening short because she did not have control of the restaurant didn’t offer us any sauce with our meals and was very ignorant and rude ! I will not be returning the one in guild hall is much better !

We loved the atmosphere & the menu - fabulous cheeseburger! The service from Joel was superb! Fun to join in on the quiz night too!

Still excellent. It's now appropriately busy. Beer is excellent as ever and the menu is full of simple favourites. It gets ridiculously busy at the weekend. BOOKING NECESSARY

We have visited the Brewhouse and Kitchen in Southsea infrequently but have never been disappointed. Great craft beers (The oxymoronic Black IPA being my favourite), excellent food and exemplary service...thank you Joel.

We went to this pub with friends and to do their quiz night. The dinner menu looked great - burgers, steaks etc and the service excellent. Joel our waiter was very helpful and was quick to offer alternatives for the one dish that wasn't available. A good experience made better by great service.

Came in with very little expectations however Callum m changed this to a mighty fine time

Family meal. Service started well, but when one staff member finished his shift it all went sideways. Food was ok, & thats being fair. Portions were on the small side & poorly presented. It was overpriced for what it was. Lots of people being turned away for food although restaurant was 90% empty and got quieter- 6.30-7pm on a saturday evening! Waited ages for staffs attention even though we were seated in front of them. Couldve easily walked out without paying & they wouldnt have noticed. Think twice before visiting!

I have given reviews in the past that ithis is the pub that "cares" and also the pub with that "extra" and after our lad visit I have to review that it is the pub that is " consistent " consistent in offering professional service to the customers Consistent in the quality of the food and friendly approach from its staff. Thank you again to managet, waiters and barstaff, your service as always is consistent.

Came for the whisky and beer pairing with my dad. Joel was fantastic as were the beers/whiskys. Would highly reccomend and thank you for making my dads day! Planning the brewery experience for fathers day!

Went with family. Didn't have a reservation but it was no problem. Sat near the copper stills but glad to say there was no yeasty smell, a horrible smell I remember from my childhood, shopping in a town with a brewery. Food was absolutely delicious, the chicken was moist and tender. Hubby was guided towards a beer that turned out to be so nice he ordered more. A little bit expensive but well worth it.

Lovely staff & very good service. Nice choice on the menu. Lots of outdoor dining space so would be great on a sunny day.

Amazing Ale brewing day for International Woman’s Day. Big shout out to Jordan, Kieran, Marek, Dave and Martin for looking after us so well. Thanks to Martin for sharing his knowledge and making our visit so interesting. Amazing food and beer 👌. Not my first visits and definitely not my last!

An extremely great pub with incredible staff and owners who allowed a large group of university students to not only film throughout the morning into the afternoon but were extremely accommodating to all of us. Would recommend to everyone and will definitely be going there again. Special thanks to all the staff members and the owner for being such great hosts!

We visited on Mother's Day lunch-time, and were unfortunately delayed by an accident on the motorway. I called up to let them know, and despite it clearly being a busy day, they were very understanding and accommodating, and confirmed the table would be held for a couple of hours. On arrival we were greeted by name (when I apologised for being late), and shown to our table. Every member of staff who dealt with us was friendly & professional. Our main server was wonderful. We ordered steaks, fish & chips, burger and a roast dinner. The food was all very good, and drinks were replenished frequently. Only a couple of us managed a pudding, but those that did enjoyed them. All in all I can't fault anything, and I would recommend this venue to anyone.

My client is a disabled person who realised there was a fly stuck at the bottom of his pint glass after he had finished his drink. The staff were so rude they wouldn't even apologise, and blamed it all on us. Please avoid.

Great place. In the summer there is loads of outdoor seating. In the winter the inside is lovely and cosy and there are blankets etc if you still want to sit outside. We only had drinks, but it was a great experience. Quiz night on a Monday night too!

International Women's Day at the Brewhouse and Kitchen was a fantastic day. Martin the master brewer showed us all the intricacies of beer making. He was very informative and engaging. Jordan, Marik, Kieran and Dave looked after us really well, providing us with a delicious breakfast, lunch and never ending beer! On top of that great company - A perfect Friday! Thank you.

Joined in event on IWD2024 for a Brewing Ale experience. I can honestly say it was a fabulous day with friends. Plenty of tasting options, aligned with fab knowledge from our 'Brewer' makes for a fun filled day all round. And in a month we can go back and taste what we have made, so whats not to love. If you fancy a day out - you can get a group together and try it for yourself. I recommend it.

This was our first visit here and it was lovely. Very efficient and friendly service with a great atmosphere. Loved the beer, nachos and great chicken. Reasonable prices with the restaurant part set away from the main bar. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor and great for families and special occasions

Lovely food, cosy and lovely garden.

I bought my brother, brother-in-law and husband, a master brewer class. Martin looked after them very well, and they all had a fabulous time. I would definitely recommend the master class.

Nicky our waitress was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. She is great with the family's food allergies and our nervous-about-food daughter is happy to eat here due to Nicky's reassurance and care. Great food and service.

We often visit the BH&K and enjoy sitting both outside and inside. We sat inside today and had a few quibbles with the barman. He overcharged for our drinks. Probably a genuine mistake, but he didn't charge the reduced 'Hoppy Hour' prices that he should have done and when my husband mentioned it afterwards, the barman didn't offer a refund on the next drink we bought. He just shrugged about the overpayment. My glass of wine was served in a very dirty glass which, when I returned to the bar with it, he did admit he may have put it next to the glass washer, then picked it up by mistake and served my drink in it. HOWEVER, the BH&K has to get a good review due to Joel. Joel was rushing around the whole time we were there, clearing tables, delivering food, being very personable with customers. When I thought about leaving a slightly whingey review about the bar service I thought it would only be fair to mention the person who had been working his socks off all afternoon so asked his name. It turns out that Joel was the Duty Manager but had taken it upon himself to fill in for a member of junior staff who hadn't attended work. I told him about the overpayment at the bar and he gave my husband a free drink to compensate. I hope that whoever employs Joel realises what an asset they have there. Thank you Joel!

Our first visit here Came for lunch with two friends food was very good and service excellent staff very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be returning.

Emre was simply great. He was funny and absolutely judged the mood. The food was great and the experience was fantastic all round.

Went with my son yesterday to the beer tasting experience which we both enjoyed tremendously. Special mention to our guide Joel, an excellent host who took us through all 8 sample beers with an enthusiasm and knowledge that could not be faulted. Also, I have to say the beers - some of which were excellently brewed by the resident brewer Martin - were very nice and some were quite unusual. An experience I would heartily recommend .

We had lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. Plenty of choice; not just Sunday roast options: fish and chips and grilled chicken salad for adults, burgers and chips for the children. My daughter's food allergies were very capably catered for. Excellent food, and attentive and effective staff. Kieran looked after us very well and we had a very enjoyable lunch. I'm not usually one for writing reviews but I feel that my visit at the Brewhouse deserves recognition for the quality of hospitality they provide and the exceptional service we had. We came in for my wife's birthday meal, the food was great, tasted fresh and a really nice selection, nothing seemed too much trouble. The atmosphere was warm and cosy but it was the staff that made the night. Ciaran and Alex were so welcoming and friendly, helped us order the right drinks, gave us samples, which was a nice touch and had a great conversation with them. They cared and got to know us which I don't get in pubs these days, the pub trade is safe if it has people like this! It's always a good sign when other people walk in and they know the names of the staff already, same as the staff knows theres, they get to know their guests, you can it's genuine and not just any old customer service jargon. It felt like everyone knew each other and even us as complete strangers were welcomed into this small but wonderful community. I just want to thank them again for making our evening. We moved to Southsea not long ago, and I think we've found our local. The good beer helps as well! We'll be back soon!

We went to celebrate a birthday and although we were a little late, we were welcomed and seated immediately We had Ale and Cider from the drinks menu and they were both great. The food was also lovely, I had the steak rice bowl and the winter salad and my husband had the burnt ends and the cheese burger with bacon. Both were cooked perfectly and were full of flavour. The staff were attentive and helpful.

First time visiting Brewhosue And Kitchen Southsea and it won’t be my last. Atmosphere was warming and welcoming. The staff were very attentive. The food was great, The beer great, what more could you ask for. I will definitely be returning in the new year.

Stuff need to look after customers , not chatting non stop in the kitchen which was really annoying. This is the reason we dont come often to this place as otherwise i love the place.

Came for friends birthday drinks, staff were lovely Alex and Callum were very helpful for choosing the beer with a triton!

Had a very enjoyable Christmas meal here. Service was brilliant very well organised. Nice big portions. Friendly staff and very helpful. Only downside would be food could have been hotter. This is understandable due to trying to cater for a lot of people Christmas day would definitely go back. Thank you for our Christmas meal. 👍🏻😊

This was the first time with my partner and not the lads for a change we have never had a problem before but the young lady was so rude and refused to return my burger trying to tell me that’s how it comes when I no it’s not as I order the same every time I’m in there as I really enjoy it but this wasn’t edible I asked to see her supervisor or manager for her to tell me she is the manager but I’ve never been spoken to like that from any kind of manager surely they want to tell the kitchen what’s wrong with the food

This venue is amazing, it must be experienced to understand the value of what it offers. The staff are great, nothing is too much trouble. Carlos and Dave are superb hosts to their brewery offerings. If you like craft ale, visit this venue now.

I had a lovely evening doing the pub quiz tonight. Shout out to the team, especially Nikkie, Daisy, Sophie, Karolina and Ryan for ensuring that our table was suitable. Quality of drinks was amazing as normal. Shame that George (not biased based on name) no longer works behind the bar but still an amazing pub

We had to send buttermilk chicken burger back as it was burnt. Amazed they served it to us. No quibbles about sending out another, although that was also over done. Service was slow and we had to go looking for people when we wanted to pay and leave.

Had our Christmas get together here yesterday and everything was very well organised as far as orders were concerned and food was great too.

Amazing roasts, and I'm not usually a fan of them. Seems that plenty of love goes into the food. It's a nice atmosphere, and the drinks selection is good.

Sorry guys but the food was below standard. The staff were nice and attentive which saved the lunch. We didn’t make a fuss as to not sour the Pre-Christmas get together. . It’s a lovely pub situated in a great spot but, as per, my first choice was not available - a burger!

We arrived for our annual Christmas get together which I had booked a long time in advance. When we walked through the door we were greeted by what can only be described as the smell of a used toilet. Our table was in the busy bar and not in the nicer restaurant area. I asked for a new table but was told they were full. As we didn't want to eat food whilst also smelling sewage, we had a drink and left without eating. Had a lovely non toilet dinner in another pub on Palmerston Road.

We did the brewery experience day with the host Martin . He was passionate and knowledgeable about brewing beer which made the day all the better . We sampled lots of beers during they day and had breakfast and lunch included , the double cheeseburger was great . You also get a free mini keg to take home ! If your into brewing beer or just trying different freshly brewed beer then I recommend this .

My partner and I went here for a Brewery making experience day. The host 'Martin' was outstanding, very informative and funny with it. Making beer on a large scale was the first time for us. We have made Gin, Brandy and Whiskey on previously tours, but this was certainly the best of them all. To top it off, the variety of beers was amazing, certainly provided food for thought. Speaking of food, the service and quality of food was well above standard. Not what we were expecting. The venue was very clean and atmosphere was great from 10:00 when we arrived till 17:30 when we left. A little worse for wear :-). Big thank you to Brewhouse and their staff. In particular Martin for an excellent day. Highly recommended.

Had a brewery experience at their Southsea location and had a great time, Martin was fantastic and made the day very enjoyable, there was only two of us which allowed us lots of time getting stuck in and to have time to chat with Martin. the food provided (burger for me) was nice with the multiple beers even better. Having been on bigger brewery tours I wasn't too sure what to expect but for anyone interested in beer making I thoroughly recommend this. The Knowledge and random facts Martin tells you is amazing and the beer provided speaks for itself. looking forward to coming back soon to taste the beer we made

We had lunch after the Great South Run and it was one of the best roast dinners we've had for a long time. They were busy but the service was excellent.

We went to brew house with our niece who was new to the area. We were greeted by our smiley waitress, karolina, who was so amazing. She was so accommodating and helped our 12 year old niece have an amazing first impression of Pompey - even to the point where karolina went inside to fulfil her other duties and she exclaimed “I love her!” Also, the food was wonderful and tasty, and the outside heaters were a great help on an otherwise drizzly autumn day. Thank you karolina and thank you brewhouse! We will definitely be back
