We have eaten in here a few times and love it. Not sure if it has changed hands but what a different experience. Firstly it was like battersea dogs home,we have no problem with dogs at all but when they are barking very loudly the owners should be asked to deal with it. secondly, when our meals came up wrong it was shocking how they made us feel like it was our fault , nobody would take ownership so customer service went out of the window and the handling of it was grim. Food was ok ish once sorted. Certainly won't go back for a long time.

This cafe has changed ownership. I spent less than an hour at this terrible establishment on Saturday afternoon. While I was there, I witnessed a couple arrive and change table twice as the tables were near collapse. They informed the owner of the cafe that the tables were dangerous and he didn’t even respond to them, just moped about extremely grumpy and unapproachable. The man who informed them even made a joke that “he didn’t think he was that fat” that the tables would collapse when sat down on. This made me laugh as I could see the tables were deathtraps. Two minutes later a lady and a young woman with a pram and young baby sat at the table as the man retuned with tools to fix it. Ironically, as he arrived and the lady sat down, the table collapsed, and the woman looked hurt and upset as well as the tabletop itself, landing on the babie’s feet. He just stood there in front of her and didn’t utter a word other than “Well, I came to fix the table”. No apology, absolutely nothing. The woman was stunned and as she walked to another table, she mentioned he could of apologised to which the owner replied he had nothing to apologise about. The couple who arrived earlier witnessed this, so one of them, the man, politely approached the owner to say that the right thing to do would be to apologise. I heard every word he said, he was extremely polite, to which the owner still repeated he had nothing to apologise for. A few minutes later, the owner walked past the man and uttered something under his breath about not needing to apologise. I’m sure he did this to antagonise the man, and understandably the man repeated to the owner that he should apologise to the woman. I could see the man get frustrated at the owner’s apathy, and the man’s voice did raise, informing the owner he had every right to raise his voice and would call the Police and Health & Safety if the owner continued this behaviour. About 10 minutes passes, yet again, the owner, in earshot of the other tables, said to an employee that he didn’t know was the fuss was about and didn’t think he owed the woman an apology, which I think was the final straw for the man who spoke to him earlier. He stood up and again informed the owner that he should apologise. The conversation became heated, the owner threatened the man saying he “would break him”, and the man got up and approached the owner. Admittedly, the man was angry at being threatened, and understandably, returned the threat back. It became even more heated and the owner’s wife came out and made the situation even worse as she immediately ignored the reason for the argument. She really didn’t care. They both didn’t care that a woman and baby could have been injured. I was absolutely disgusted. Needless to say, lots of swearing and finger pointing later, the couple left very upset and very angry. The man looked quite embarrassed for making such a public spectacle, but to be honest I don’t blame him. I feel feel sorry for the man because, if you’d not witnessed the whole episode, it may have looked like he was another Southsea crazy. Both owners behaviour was disgusting. Most of the staff were moody. The food itself was pretty poor. Everything was filthy. This cafe used to be called The Big Wheel Cafe, then changed owners to Southsea Street Food and is now Southsea Seafront Cafe. I have no idea how this cafe has 4 stars, it must be from the previous owners because after speaking to other guests, they mostly had the same opinion that the Southsea Seafront Cafe was in fact, a complete health hazard with owners who were not only ignorant to any customer feedback, but complicit and negligent to the point that the cafe was a danger to it’s visitors. I wish I could give it zero stars.

Ordered from here this evening with my partner, ordered cheese and bacon fries each which were terrible, the most disgusting cheese came in a pot and the bacon on the chips was just awful. The tiniest amount of bacon compared to chips and the taste of the bacon was just disgusting. My partner ordered a burger which was dripping with grease, the bun was soggy and I don’t know what the hell they did to the burger but it tasted awful. £30 for 2 lots of ‘loaded’ fries and a burger, definitely not worth the money!! Never come across such awful food in my life

I left then and got to the door....I heard the girl bad mimicking me to her colleague I asked her politely.....did she have something wanted to say? I advised her that I had asked nicely about the awful late food and no need to be rude Another table in there were also not happy...it was not busy.......... With that a lady came bolting out the kitchen I won't describe her......... Shouting at me saying I was a stuck up b......and this isn't the queen's Hotel I told her I was leaving as my 2 autistic grandchildren with me.... I advised her that her abusive rude behaviour was inappropriate and she continued to shout and swear......her threatening behaviour was quite intimidating....and very personal about myself I got out quickly as my grandchildren were upset Disgusting behaviour from anyone.....totally unprovoked.....and quite frankly I nearly called the police....

I will never visit this cafe again. After waiting 15 mins for food went to inquire if it was due within the next 5 mins as people who had arrived after me were getting their food. Well the reply stunned me, was told I was not special, and would have to wait as they had other orders to do. I politely pointed out that this could have been pointed out at the time of ordering, like apologies but it is a 20 min wait.... Anyway I asked for a refund , money was thrown onto the counter. I said would never visit again , reply, I don't give a sh&t. Charming. Anybody know who owns this place as I wish to complain.

My Partner and I came here with one of our Grandsons. We were very impressed with the food and service. My partner had breakfast doorstop sandwich, our 6 year old Grandson had hot dog and chips and I had the dirty chilli fries. All the food was well cooked, hot and fresh. Lovely lady behind the counter. Giving little Grandson 2 lollies for eating all his lunch. When in Southsea next, Will be in again

I often struggle to find a veggie option down by the seafront, these guys do a tasty shroom burger, but I came for the veggie sausages which were delightful served with a smile.

Went across to Southsea on the hovercraft for lunch. Found this little gem and had some lovely food. Try the Nachos with chilli beef or the bacon and cheese dirty chips. We will be back next year.

We ordered two Jacket Potatoes and prawns and onefish and chips. The jacket pototoes were overcoooked and blackskins. The fish and was atrocious it had obviously been battered and fries and then re-heated. We should have complained to get a refund, but we had to catch our train. We generally never complain, but the food was rubbish. Will not be eating there ever again

We were given a choice of tables and picked one near the back. Quite slow to take our order (comped us a beer) which was for warm breads to start and two pan-fried chicken with hassleback potatoes and tarragon jus. The food was very tasty. Service from our waitress was good, but the two waitresses were doing all the work, whilst the three waiters did a lot of walking around looking busy. When we asked for the bill, it was explained that they had a problem with their system and couldn’t charge to the room. I explained that we had a F&B credit so needed to charge to the room. Took about 20 minutes to resolve, but got there eventually! £76 including 12.5% service charge.

Friendly efficient service. It was very cold in there, all customers had their coats on. Maybe a bit of warmth would make it a cosier place, that I would visit more often
