Shenanigans Irish Cafe in Portsmouth

Accidentally dropped my food when leaving, without question they done my whole order again! Very Quickly, and was very apologetic even tho it was my fault. And the Food was top notch!!

Went above and beyond when ordering drinks. Food served quickly and was lovely Would use again highly recommended

I used to love this place, unfortunately only this morning I went in with my Dog who has been there so many times as we live two mins away, we were met with two women who looked at us in horror & informed us that Dogs were not really allowed & then when challenged on this by myself they made up a ridiculous rule that Dogs are allowed after 2.00PM??? Either it is Dog friendly or it isn’t!! Every other establishment in Southsea is Dog friendly regardless of the hour!! These individuals clearly didn’t like Dogs or simply didn’t like a Dog bigger than a Pug!! Rude & a bad representation for Shenanigans, I am actually Irish so this is a shame, as we Irish are up for a good crack & are very warm & friendly people!! Will not be back again!! Ever!!

Good little pub, Guinness was OK. Nice to have the option for extra cold option for it.

Great breakfast here with haggis , white pudding and black pudding! Really nice Irish coffee too! Serves breakfast till 2pm which is great for the late riser...

One of the best full English breakfasts I've had in ages. Service was friendly and quick and the price was well below what you'd expect to pay nowadays.

Lovely Irish pub, great no-nonsense food, wonderful staff. Limited spaces so if coming in a crowd best to reserve. Great atmosphere - live music at times, rugby during season... so much fun!

Gone to hell since new ownership, bar staff are very sleepy , everyone’s food doesn’t comes out together, so you find yourself staring at the other person when they eating . I wouldn’t recommend it , until they bring back the old menus , and that’s coming from someone that is irish

Irish hurling..... Don't think they are Irish owners. 6 nations is not just irish Been there on all Ireland final day, they were closed and hadn't a clue of the importance.

Use to be a great friendly little bar for breakfast and a pint, visited this morning, staff were rude, ordered food and a pint after 20 minutes she hadn’t even poured the pint, no choice but to walk out and find somewhere else, the table next to us did exactly the same, I understand it’s under new ownership but the the very least a customer can expect is a polite service, won’t be going back

Update: Fantastic news this great pub is under new management and now fully reopened Shenanigans serve the best pint of Guinness in Portsmouth. They also serve a great breakfast. The pub is a bit small but that adds to the atmosphere, especially when rugby is being shown. A good range of lager and wine is also available. Service is second to none. Highly recommended.

Best venue for forthcoming 6 Nations events…

Shame it's closed came down from southampton a few times for a lovely irish breakfast and a few guinnesses

The breakfast here is amazing, different options and lovely quality meat. We tried the Scottish and Irish, both tasted good and the square sausage was a nice change. Highly recommend, will be returning.

Excellent fun pub, best Guinness I've had outside Ireland, and beats alot of places there as well tbh. Enjoyed a spanking breakfast here a few times too. Great fun when the rugby is on. And the staff are magic too, all part of the fun there. 5/5 can't fault it. My favourite regular local ever.

Well,,, if you like a great cooked breakfast, this is the pace to go, only issue not enough seating!! Alway full when we go here. A great selection of cooked breakfast’s ( small) but a breakfast for all!!

My dad and I just visited Shenanigans, the only pub with nice tasting beer in Portsmouth. The staff are so welcoming and lovely. A proper Irish bar!! Would recommend to visit!

A wonderful place to have your dinner with both family and friends. Don't forget to book your Wednesday special ribs, all you can eat. Enjoy!!

Drinks with friends - great little Irish bar perfect for watching the rugby. Good atmosphere and a great range of beers. The white wine was particularly nice for a sports bar

Brought my son here for his first full English (he's American) and was not disappointed. The food was great and well priced. Staff were friendly and gave excellent service. Will definitely stop here on my next visit to Pompey!

Amazing staff! The young lady who served me (sorry I don't know her name but I hope her boss knows... 23rd May at 4pm) was fantastic. Nice woman to have a chat with. Great environment and relaxed atmosphere.

I have visited a handful of times and thought i'd write a review. Love their breakfasts! Lorn sausage and white pudding were new to me. Menu caters for all appetites. Good selection of alcohol. I tried my first Baby Guinness here on St Patrick's day, which I really enjoyed! Followed by a pint! Hurry The Jug are a traditional Irish band and i've been lucky to have caught them a couple of times - being a musician myself I really appreciate hearing great live music and even moreso with HTJ as my grandparents were Irish and our Nana used to play this kind of music all of the time. Friendly service and will no doubt be back. I believe they have a pie menu 👀

Our first visit. Special for St Patrick's day. We were made to feel very welcome. The Irish band were brilliant. We will be back. 😃

Always on the lookout for a good Irish Pub. Small but well formed, this is a popular watering hole in central Southsea - easy to see why. Not too busy in the early evening, but just wait until later! Adequate seating for the size. Friendly staff.

One of the best Six Nations experiences in Portsmouth. We arrived for a late breakfast and then stayed all afternoon for two games. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, spotting if our glasses were getting low so we didn't have to turn away from the rugby. The breakfast was excellent and it was a pleasure to be asked if I'd like to make any swaps (rather than to have to ask and hope). The bar pies were delicious too. On rugby day there's no better place to be.

Loved this place! Brilliant choice of breakfasts (Irish with white and black pudding, and Scottish with Lorne sausage and haggis). Super friendly staff, and great service during the 6 nations rugby ...a simple nod at the barman and he delivered us 2 new pints of Guinness with a card machine to pay. Amazing atmosphere for the Ireland rugby game. Decorations in here were really great too making it feel really different from bland and soulless bar. Looking forward to coming back!

Breakfast was over priced who have a breakfast where the hash brown are extra and it cost £13.50 ripe off I have had breakfast all over the country and not again

This place is by far the best breakfast in southsea . Excellent value for money 💰 . None of this tiny portions of beans in timble tins but a good spoonful . Staff are very helpful and welcoming . PS hope the door is fixed next time I come 🥶

Quirky little pub with a rugby theme. Plenty of TVs to watch sport on. I had an excellent Guinness, the wife had a nice dry rose. It's really small but has a great atmosphere. It was sunny when we visited so the front of the pub was opened right up and we sat on the street. Nice little birthday visit.

Went there for Breakfast on Sunday, great food and great staff and decently priced. Oh and they like their rugby - what’s not to like!

It is worth a visit when out for drinks.

Having visited Southsea fairly regularly, we'd passed this place a few times before giving it a shot, late one Sunday morning, a few years ago. They're open, making great breakfasts until 2pm, from Tuesday to Sunday. From personal experience, I can recommend everything on the menu, although you should probably try a boxty (a potato pancake) at least once 😉. And the friendly staff also serve the best pint of Guinness in the area. Just don't ask them to put blackcurrant in it (see pic) 😀

One of the best breakfast in Portsmouth, loved the fact that when I visited a year ago or so they didn't have soya milk for tea and I suggested it would be nice if they have that option for people who are lactose intolerant. Visited them today and I enjoyed the veggie breakfast with a cup of tea with soya milk.. ❤️ will be visiting again soon.

Would have rated them at 0/5 if i could have! 6 Nations match day.Previous years, turned up in my White shirt,bit of fun banter had. This year...appalling! Refused to serve me, not only that but didn't even havevthe courage to tell me to my face. Sat at my table for 1/2 an hour, and apparently they manged to miss me, the only White shirt in the place. So rating is actually zero with an addition of pathetic. Needless to say my last vist

We had heard great reviews of the breakfast here and I have to say it certainly lived up to expectations. I had the Scottish and my wife the Traditional (small!) breakfast. Both were absolutely fantastic. The service was friendly and efficient without being intrusive. All in all a great way to start the day!

Been coming here for a few years. This place does the basics to a high standard, all the time, every time. In the recent uncertain world of hospitality, it's nice to know there are some things you can rely on. Come to think of it, why can't every establishment sail through a storm like these guys? Try the cooked breakfast with a pint of Guinness on the side, you won't regret it.

This is as close to a locals local in Osbourne Road as you're gonna get, small and intermit and if you want Guinness then this is the place. Over 10 squids for a wine and pint.....but it's good for a visit.

It was great to be able to sit at the bar and have a chat with the really friendly and welcoming manager on a drizzly Monday evening. Cracking pint of Guinness and nice surroundings. Been here for breakfast too, one of the best fry’s I’ve ever had!

We were in the area for a meal, but wanted a couple of drinks before eating. Shenanigans was the perfect fit. I had read the history of the bar and found it intriguing that Portsmouth didn't have one of the many fake Irish bars that seem to be everywhere!! If it is a friendly bar with a good local trade and attentive staff willing to share a bit of banter that makes a good Irish bar, then this is your place!! It isn't very big but we managed to get the last free table. It turned out to be a perfect spot as we were able to enjoy the atmosphere without being intrusive. Drinks were very well priced with a good selection of gin for a small bar. My Amstel was excellent. There was a certain amount of advertising pushing a certain brand but I managed to resist! As far as I could tell, they only offered breakfasts but that was fine by us, there are a lot of excellent restaurants in the area and Shenanigans provides a very welcome drinks outlet
