Fah Thai Restaurant in Portsmouth

I am sorry to only review as a 3 star as this could be so much better with a couple of extra staff. Food was excellent, but with only one person waiting tables it was a bit like pulling teeth trying to get drinks and food. Food orders were not right and it was frustratingly slow! The service itself was friendly and polite, but just need more staff in order to make this a 5 star experience for customers.

The restaurant looks tired particularly the men’s toilet. Duck rolls were served so hot they burnt the inside of my mouth. Could not taste the duck. Green curry was just ok. Staff were very kind.

Our first visit to this restaurant and we were delighted with everything.The staff are friendly and attentive and the food was excellent,both in taste and presentation. We will definitely visit again when in the area.

very good, hot and fresh. especially loved the mushroom tom yum and tofu starter. Yum.

Just ordered a Beef Masaman for collection and it was without a doubt the worst I've ever had. The curry was so watery it was more like a stew than a curry and lacked any sort of flavour. Really disappointing at the price they charge for it.

The food was so good that I had to come back a second time before I left. And the pad Thai did not disappoint the second time. Highly recommended for service and atmosphere.

This was a surprise gem, my second time in Portsmouth, and took a punt on this place, absolutely gorgeous food and lovely people running it. Authentic and delicious, would definitely return.

Welcomed with a smile as soon as we walked in the door. Attentive service and the food absolutely perfect. Tempura vegetables for starter were in a light batter. Vegetarian panang curry and sticky rice. Also druncken noodles with a kick.

I’ve been coming here for six years now! It’s such a great restaurant with such delicious food and friendly service. Visited again for a birthday meal- delicious crispy beef, red duck curry, chicken satay, pad thai, garlic rice and beef with broccoli. The best Thai food I’ve ever had- such great flavours.

It was a unexpected date to Fah Thai, with no expectations.The food was delicious 🤤. We ordered Chicken Tom Khar Soup,Chilli beef,Pork Green Curry, Thai Jasmine Rice & a Chicken Egg noodles. Right from the soup to main course they didn't compromise on the taste, everything was flavour full and is served in a decent portion. In total it came to £37, which is definitely worth the money spend. The members at the restaurant is very welcoming & they do give suggestions according to your taste buds. The interior is so cozy & well maintained. We really enjoyed the food. Will definitely come back to try other Thai dishes & recommend to everyone.

Fah Thai is the best and my favourite Thai restaurant in Portsmouth by far! The staff are all extremely polite, friendly and helpful. Portions are great, food is hot, fresh and delicious, and it is the most authentic to food you will get in Thailand when you visit. Tom Kha is a form favourite and I almost always add it to any of my orders here. They are incredibly sensitive to nut allergy sufferers like me and I always feel they take my allergy seriously and feel very safe, even though Thai food often liberally apply peanuts to so many dishes. It's great value and you won't be disappointed ☺️

Very overpriced for what you get. Always thought Thai food was spicy!! Won't be ordering again as expensive for the amount you get. Found it lacking in flavour.

Busy Saturday night but the service was really slow. Half to get a drink, unfortunately the food didn't deliver. We had a pad Thai, yellow curry and beef massaman, all sort tasted a bit sweet and didn't really hit the spot. The curry's tasted incredibly similar. I'm sure they were tinned potatoes in the curry andd the beef was really grainy and cheap. It was okay, but Unfortunately won't be going back.

We were looking for good food in Portsmouth having travelled from London to attend a conference. Had a good evening here, excellent Thai food and also very good bottle of Pinot grigio. Recommend the banana fritters to finish!

Amazing food! You can expect every dish to be delicious! This is by far one of our favourite places to eat in Southsea. I can especially recommend the tofu curries and vegetable spring rolls. Sometimes food can take a little while to come out if it's really busy, but the staff are always really professional and helpful.

Thai red curry takeaway was absolutely incredible highly recommend getting 50% additional spice. Portion size perfect and very cheap for the quality offered will 100% use again.

Beautiful independent restaurant in the heart of Albert Road. I easily booked a table online and received a confirmation from the manager quickly. When we arrived we felt very welcome and the host double checked if we had a time restraint as they were aware of the show at the close by Kings Theatre. The host and servers were very accommodating and made sure we had our food in time to make the show in good time. The food was wonderful. Everything was was fresh and flavoursome and presented so well. Will definitely return! The attached photo was our lovely sharing starter which was perfect to share between a vegetarian & meat/fish eater.

This is my girlfriend and I second time coming here. The food is excellent and the customer service is very impressive. Inside the restaurant is very clean and there is a light lounge music in the background which creates a very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere and the food is very authentic Waiting time for the food is moderate. This is definitely a hidden gem that more people should know about. We ordered butterfly king prawns and panaeng curry which was 10/10

having lived in Thailand for over 7 years with an adventurous pallet its fair to say I have an appreciation of authentic Thai food. Fah Thai has recently changed hands and I was quite a fan of the previous owner-chefs cuisine. so we tried a few take-aways before coming back to the restaurant. we found them very palatable but eating at home isn't the same as getting the food straight from the kitchen. unfortunately many 'Thai' restaurants here in the South are owned/run/managed/chefed by people who aren't Thai and they miss the important subtleties and qualities of real Thai food. the food at Fah Thai is now more authentic than before and the ingredients are VERY fresh too. there are many subtle improvements in flavour and a genuine step up on quality. thankfully they've kept the range of Thai wines and beers. we are very lucky to have such a high standard of real Thai restaurant here in the Solent area without the high price tag to suit.

This restaurant was amazing, catered for my graduation celebration, really appreciate the effort they put into making this occasion special with balloons and decor. Food was really fresh and tasty! With a lot of variety to choose from. Great experience/hospitality and will definitely be going back again!

Booked a large group at short notice for my birthday. Arrived to birthday banners and balloons, which was a lovely touch. The food was delicious with good portion sizes. Staff were very welcoming. Truly made the occasion special. Thank you to everyone.

My absolute favourite restaurant in Southsea...which says a lot considering southsea has a big choice. Its a great atmosphere, quick and friendly service, tasty food and good prices.

Visited last week for the first time. Very efficient and friendly waitress. Dishes beautiful! Really enjoyed the cocktail too! Lovely interior. I have tried four other Thai's in Southsea, but I think this has to be my favourite - I regret leaving it so long to try. My only slight criticism, on the Monday half way through the meal, next door (the barbers) must have had music on as it was thudding through the wall spoiling the ambience.

One of the best Thai restaurants in Hampshire/West Sussex and I've eaten in many of them! Food is consistently excellent and the service is always with a smile. It has a nice ambiance too. One minor point...it would be nice if they offered a bigger selection of white wines by the glass. A New Zealand Marlborough would go down well with such lovely Thai food!

I have been to Fan Thai with my sister on a number of occasions and although it is often quiet it is absolutely wonderful. The food is exceptional, the service is so friendly and kind and this place deserves to be full every night. Our waitress on Wednesday was so nice to us and remembered us from a year ago. Highly, highly recommend this place.

Me and my parents came to eat here and it was so delicious! The menu was super inclusive, The food tasted amazing and it was beautifully presented. The staff are so kind and the food was made by actual Thai chefs!! I now always order and eat here whenever I can.

Our server Mink, was so lovely, caring and attentive and made sure we had a fantastic time. P.s don't pour the curry on to the plate. It's a trap. USE YOUR SPOON. 😂

The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely, and the food is superb. I wholeheartedly recommend Fah Thai restaurant to anyone looking for a unique Thai dining experience.

As we walked in the restaurant had an awful smell, the staff were polite, food was horrendous. It was dry & tasted like microwave food. We ordered the duck roll which looked like tuna and smelt foul. When we notified the staff member at the end and asked for that one specific plate to be taken off the bill, we were told that it’s not normal for them to receive a complaint & they won’t be taking it off the bill. We were very upset by this as we weren’t happy with all the food but didn’t want to be unreasonable. Such a shame, would never return.

We visited in the evening and were greeted with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly and made sure that we had the best possible experience. My partner and I shared plates and agree that the highlight was the Suea Rong-Hai which just melts in your mouth and absolutely adore the north eastern style spicy sauce that came with. Definitely a place I'll be returning to each time I visit Portsmouth and will share with friends and family!
