Shah's Secreto in Guildford

Four of us visited Shah's Secreto this evening and had a delicious meal. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone as the food is excellent and the staff very friendly and efficient.

I would tell you the food was absolutely appalling, but there was so little taste off it, that I can't even say that. It was the vile oily texture of everything that sealed the deal. On the plus side, the service was quite good. So, if you like bowls of oil with a sprinkle of spice in it served politely, then head here. If you like Indian food, then stay away! We complained about the dreadful food and were told the chef was on his night off! The most pathetic excuse I've ever heard. I'd have much preferred a microwave curry from Tesco or the like. It'd have been far tastier.

I really wanted this to be a good curry, as good Indian restaurants are hard to find. The food was really disappointing to say the least. The chicken Shashlik was just chicken on its own. The chicken was clearly stored in a salt brine and not fresh. No tomatoes, peppers or onion served with it, absolutely no explosive flavours, no grilled flavour to it. The Dal was really watery and lacked lentils!! Absolutely no flavour. The Butter chicken was non marinated pieces of plain chicken in the typical overly sweet, fluorescent orange, out of a vat sauce. A lot of money for what was a dreadful meal.

Very good food and a lot of different options on the menu. The staff were all really helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place

Sad to say that the Secret(o) is not to order take out from here!! The currey (chicken tikka balti) was tasteless, no depth or flavour and the chicken was awful. The side dishes were just ok but overall probably one of the worst curries I’ve ever had in Guildford and elsewhere!!!!!

We had an unexpected pre-theatre dinner window, Shahs saved the day with modern curry deliciousness… in&out in record time … and 10% off in a deal with the local theatre. Well worth it, we will return!

Fantastic food, not greasy. Seasoned perfectly. We were just out of delivery range but they still delivered. Superb service. Thank you.

The curry was very watery and lacked any spice or flavour, no proper chillis in the curry only mild peppers/jalapeños, rice was cold, shame really as looked good on the menu

We (family of 5) visited on a Sunday and had the buffet. Restaurant surroundings nice, food good (albeit with not much variety). At payment our two children were charged as adults and when we questioned this, the staff confirmed that in the restaurant, an adult is classed as any person age 7 and above. We found this pretty inexplicable and disappointing - also as we were not made aware of this prior to ordering. We’d also note that a service charge is applied - but there is no service? (You even go up and get your own plate!).

How can this be an Indian cuisine restaurant if the staff and chef are Bangladeshi? Better name Bangladeshi cuisine instead of Indian cuisine. One staff was arrogant, food was not good waste of money

The place is good amicable and very nice in taste. Must visit for anyone liking continental food. The service was truly impressive and fast.

Really good and reasonably priced food. Even the service when ordering a takeaway is swift, warm and friendly. Highly recommend the Tandoori Mixed Grill!

Have been here many times and the last visit was probably the best. Food was delicious and the service as ever was impeccable. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy Indian cuisine. The chicken tikka and masala sauce was amazing.

There is a bad moral employee the reception was not proper from this bearded employee he underestimated the food is not good enough😔

Amazing Indian food and really professional service! It was our first time here and we were all super pleased with the quality of the service, atmosphere and food. Amazing poppadoms and onion bahjis with sauces to accompany. Great curries with lots of flavor and sauce. Quantities of meat in dishes could be a bit more but for one person plus sides, it’s sufficient. Can get a bit loud in there when full of people. Toilets really clean.

This is my first time here in shah’s restaurant. I loved the food what I had have here. The best thing is to me that , they’ve a large scale of Indian food collection and obviously the service what I entertain from them. I wish there best success in this field.

Superbly tasty food - Butter chicken and Chicken tikka masala. The chef certainly has some secrets to his recipes! We were looked after with great warmth and attention. It made a very nice place to eat for our wedding anniversary meal. Very good value for money. Thoroughly recommend.

We popped in on the off chance never having eaten there before. The food was exerlent, service very good and the staff friendly. We couldn't have asked for more. Will be going again and would recommend to others well worth a visit.

The food was nice but not the best value for money - only 5 small pieces of chicken in one dish and 2 pieces of potato in the vegetarian dish. The service was fast but almost too fast. Before we'd properly sat down and taken our coats off, we were being asked if we were ready to order. The staff were vigilant and friendly but it was somewhat uncomfortable as the restaurant was very quiet and it felt as though you were being constantly watched. Overall though I would recommend the food.

Went for the Sunday lunch buffet. Great value for money and excellent service. Food was delicious too, especially the chicken tikka. Will be going back soon. The decor was quite nice and gives find dining feel. Worth giving it a go.

I really liked the dishes and attentive service. Reasonable price for meals. In my opinion, it is a good place for both a family dinner and a meeting with friends or a business meeting.

Another great buffet at Shahs and a lovely atmosphere. Always a good choice of food to suit all tastes. We don’t live near but always happy to travel for our favourite curry.

I wanted to share my recent experience with you. I didn't have high expectations when I ordered the set lunch menu for £13.50, but boy was I pleasantly surprised! The food was absolutely delicious and to top it off, Ahmad's customer service was exceptional. I am definitely planning to visit the place again soon!

The food wasn’t great, probably the worst Indian I have been to in regards to the food. Service was brilliant, popadums and sauces lovely but the mains were so basic, vegetables watery and no flavour, saag panner not great no flavour really, onion bhajis were ok but had much nicer else where, pilau rice even wasn’t that nice, tandoori was ok but overall we won’t be coming back unfortunately as quite a disappointment.

h ere today for lunch excellent as always. Always amazed it is not packed at lunch time - people should make the effort to walk up to this end of town as this restaurant is really good

My friend and I had a wonderful evening at Shah's Secreto on 14th February. Although it was Valentine's evening, there were family groups, friendship groups and couples, which was very refreshing. The menu was extensive without being too much. I chose the special from Rajastan & my friend, the Meat Thali. We had poppadums to start with & all the food was great quality, fresh, crisp & obviously cooked to order. The waiting staff were the perfect balance of attentive, fast but unobtrusive. Having spent time working in Rajastan the food was just as I remembered from my time there. We ended with a lovely chat with the manager. I would recommend them 100%!

We ordered from here for the first time to give somewhere different a try, but regrettably our experience can be summed up in one word - disappointing. Although the meat was ok, there wasn't alot of it and the sauce was thin, watery, and verging on being tasteless. Admittedly I have eaten in the restaurant before and remember the food being good, but this was a while ago so I've no idea whether the food we received is indicative of what you now get at the restaurant or not. Hopefully they were just having an off day, but it's doubtful I'll be ordering from here again anytime soon.

Found resteraunts on open table in a good location was quiet and exclusive the food was tasty and portion sizes were great staff were lovely

How to sum up an amazing night. I’ve lived in Guildford for a little while now and so upset I didn’t know this place existed sooner. Not only are the staff the most friendly and caring people but the food is beyond incredible. Being Valentine’s Day I assumed we would be waiting for service or food regardless where we went but we didnt. The staff were attentive and constantly on hand and the food was out in a good time as well. The staff took the time and didn’t rush us so we were able to order mains and starters at separate times. So grateful to have had this amazing experience and we will be back. Ps thank you for the rose 🌹

We went out for the evening with our son who is a manager at another Guildford restaurant and rates this as the best Indian in Guildford. We were not disappointed. The staff are efficient and polite and the food excellent. My wife and I are gluten intolerant and the owner made sure we were well catered for. Luckily, as with most Indian restaurants, there is a wide range of choices avoiding gluten. The curry’s were well flavoured and not overly hot at a sensible price point with a good atmosphere.

The food at Shah’s secrets is delicious and the waiters are always very friendly and accommodating when we come here. Would recommend to everyone

Brilliant location for a first class Indian meal before a concert at the GLive. The Lahore king prawn was excellent, as was the monk fish tandoori. Friendly service and only a 45 second walk to the GLive!

Arrived promptly, food was hot and tasted great.

Curries and rice were lukewarm - everything else was cold. The packaging isn’t good enough to keep the food warm - need to switch to foil! Bhajis were dripping in oil and not good quality. Curry flavour was lovely but didn’t get the full effect given how cold it was. No free poppadom or sauces and they forgot our dip! Might be 94p refunded but ruins the whole experience and meal. Not worth it for the money - very expensive compared to other places in the area that are just as good, if not better

The food was very average, as it arrived so late most of it was cold. The onion Bhaji was dripping in oil the curry lacked a lot of flavour and only had 5 small pieces of lamb which I find poor for £13.15. I would not choose to order here and unfortunately do not recommend on this occasion

I went with my family today, pathetic service and pathetic food. Really rude staff. Haven't seen this kind of service anywhere. Have seen many restaurants with low quality food serving with smile but this was awfully experience. Waste of money.

Hour and a half late and was cold, very disappointed after spending £51.57 on a takeaway I except it to be almost on time not 90 minutes late, I called the restaurant 10 minutes after it should have arrived and the driver hadn’t even picked it up yet.

This is run by Bangladeshi’s and I guess they have no clue of Indian food. Food made under the guise of authentic Indian cuisine.
