Spice Of India in Guildford

A particularly warm welcome saw 17 club members attend this nice little restaurant tucked in to the row of shops at Ash Vale. Booking beforehand gave us an entire side of the venue, and drinks were quickly provided whilst we read the interesting menu; if you tend to look out for unusual menu entries that don’t appear elsewhere, there’s a couple here that will appeal; Chicken Chukka and Lal Mirch Murgh were standouts (the latter made with extra chilli by request). A very efficient order process with equally quick main course delivery gave us tasty meals with superb accompaniment of rice, sides & bread. A great curry house, which we had been to before as a club, but not for a while. We’re thinking it won’t be such a wait for the next booking!

Lamb tikka masala - banging, lots of thick meat, lots of red creamy sauce big portion! Pilau rice, banging. Peshwari naan, a little small but tasty. Saag Paneer, dry but tasted nice in the curry sauce, bombay aloo a bit meh. Overall would order again 8/10.

Spice of India used to be excellent. Clearly, the cost of living has caused them to reassess their prices and quality. We've used Spice of India for a long time. Always been extremely pleased, until now. Latest delivery was seriously watered down. The Mint Sauce was pretty much just green water; tasteless and terrible. The Chicken Tikka Massala was equally watered down, had barely any chicken and pretty tasteless. For the price charged I'd expect the usual quality, not this rubbish. So disappointed :( If Spice of India had upped the price a little but kept the quality then I'd understand and still be a customer. But for now, we're going to go elsewhere that charge a similar amount for quality food. Sorry guys - please fix :(

Amazing!!!! Food was totally authentic cuisine, cooked to perfection . And the portion size was good too. Very helpful staff, always happy to advise on dish combinations. We'll definitely return.

We just ordered a takeaway from here on Deliveroo and were not disappointed! The food arrived steaming hot, everything was cooked perfectly and portion sizes were fantastic. We can’t wait to order again already and we haven’t even eaten our leftovers which we are saving for tomorrow!

Been using takeaway service for years, always very good Last nights takeaway was terrible, chicken was hard, chewy and seemed precooked and then put in the sauce and reheated for delivery. Will not be using this restaurant again.

Tonight I ordered from Spice of India for the first time through Just Eat, delivery was prompt and food was hot on arrival, I ordered chicken tikka masala, pilau rice, naan, vegetable samosas, chips and poppadoms, all was fantastic, the tikka masala sauce in particular was the perfect creamy consistency with a great flavour. The delivery man was freindly too. Great experience all round.

A very mixed bag - be warned. Ordered a meal for delivery. Good stuff first. All people involved were polite and friendly. The popadoms, rice, nan, sag and king prawn vindaloo were all tasty. Not so good were the appetisers which seemed like they had been cooked long ago and got held for far too long. Dry, brittle onion bhajees and soggy samosas. Chicken naga had good spice but was ruined by the enormous slices of practically raw onion which filled the container - they added nothing but bulk to the dish. The worst of it was the thick, sickly chicken tikka massala and the peas panir both of which were consigned to the food recycling after one bite. They really let themselves down on timings. Quoted 50 minutes for delivery I called after 70 minutes to check up and was assured that it would not be long. After 100 minutes I called again and was apologetically told that the driver had just left and that the delay was somehow due to Black Friday (?). Finally, 110 minutes after ordering the food arrived and was as detailed above. Luckily by then appetites were dwindling so the inedible elements of the meal were not mourned. I would go and ask for a partial refund if I could be bothered, but will settle for posting an honest review and avoiding forever more.

Gone down hill big time for eating in, preference seems to be on takeaway trade. Thursday night 7.00 pm my wife and I went for a meal, we were the only ones there so seated straight away, it was a bitterly cold night but the door was constantly being open and closed by delivery drivers making it uncomfortable to sit there, the meal was only mediocre but the thing that really got to us and prompted me to write this review was the crockery that the meals came on were stone cold making the meals undesirable, there is nothing worse in a restaurant than cold plates!! We felt unappreciated as paying customers to the detriment of takeaway orders. We have used Spice of India many times and have always given them excellent reviews but sadly standards seem to be slipping and I don't think we will go again.

Food was unreal and staff was so friendly, even let us come in a bit earlier, recommend this highly.

This place used to be great for takeaways but we have had one tonight that was just terrible. Meat was cheap, curries weren't right, tandoori chicken was like rubber. Biriyani wasnt great. Has the chef changed or are they under new ownership as standards have slipped badly and we wont be back

Ordered takeaway from here tonight and collected it to be greeted by really nice friendly staff taking all covid precautions to keep customers safe. The food was piping hot and lovely [chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, garlic rice, garlic nam, onion bahji, popadoms, salad and raiti sauce] and so much of it there was enough to make 2 meals just from 1 meal. I will be defiantly ordering from here again.

Absolutely diabolical food missing what was delivered was stone cold and inedible rang but got a sad response if your hungry don’t bother

We stopped by this curry restaurant early on a Saturday evening after shopping in the adjacent furniture store. We did not have a reservation but they found a table for us being it was early. We were impressed with their efforts of keeping the tables apart with plastic dividers which were not too intrusive. There wasn’t any part of our meal which we did not enjoy, the food was excellent, tasty and good size portion. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We made a mistake of over paying our bill and they were quick to bring this to our attention and returned the cash back to us which was very kind. Thank you so much. We will definitely be back for more next time we are in the area.

So we ordered through just eat, from ordering to receiving it was 20 minutes. It arrived and everything was cold! The starter, the curry, the rice. We rang the restaurant who told us to just re heat it in the microwave and to just call just eat for a refund! Absolutely shocking.... not even offered a fresh one which is what we wanted, he said there was no point as we can re heat and get a refund so win win basically. Service was shocking..... would NEVER order from this place again. Very very disappointing

Cracking takeaway from here tonight. Delivered within about 45 minutes which is quite impressive given current circumstances. Noticed that some have been delayed through Deliveroo. My advice; just ring them up and cut out the middle man. Arrived nice and hot and very tasty.

First time ordering from this restaurant and reviews looked good so gave it a shot. We ordered through deliveroo and our curry arrived nearly 2 hours late, this was not a big deal to be honest, I totally understand that with the Corona Virus lockdown as it is, takeaways are pretty rammed. The staff were very friendly, and threw in a complimentary beer for the wait which was nice - but by the time the curry arrived I was really hungry and ready to dig in.They gave us boiled rice instead of pilau by accident, again not a biggie as they were rushed off their feet.The reason for the review was after all that I finally started digging into my curry and the first thing I noticed was how watery everything was, we ordered some Tarka Dall which was literally closer to the consistency of a broth. My curry (lamb rezalla) was nearly as watery as the tarka dall, and tasted of nothing, literally the only flavour it had was a mild tomato taste and the fair amount of heat it had from some whole chilli's. We had mushroom bhaji which was ok but also lacked flavour, I was so surprised at how little taste everything had, I had a plate of curry in front of me and it was really bland.My girlfriend's Passanda was overpoweringly sweet, I know take aways tend to add sugar to a very mild currys but all she could taste was the sugar - sugar is meant to help balance flavours, not be the only flavour.I will stress given the situation that I am not ill in the least, my taste buds are fully functioning.I really hope this was an off day for them, and maybe my food was like this as a result of them rushing to get food to us. I hate writing bad reviews, and they seemed like nice people, but I would not risk spending the money to give them a second chance and change this review.

This little local Indian restaurant was new to me, but I will definitely be returning! All the staff were really friendly and our food arrived very promptly. Portions were good but not too large, whilst the food was all excellent, well flavoured and clearly freshly prepared. Plus the prices are reasonable! A great little find.

Being a local I decided to use the Spice of India at Ash Vale for a group celebration birthday dinner. Always a good experience here and good value. We booked ahead as a large group and the staff worked hard to please everyone. We booked a Sunday for this visit but normally my wife and I pop down for the Tuesday night banquet menu.My friends have been whatsapping me all day today saying how much they enjoyed last night's celebration evening. Thank you.

We ordered from Spice of India for the first time yesterday via Deliveroo and it was an awful experience. The food arrived, with the curry spilled over the containers, which had gone over the other contents (see photo attached). The poppadoms were stale and inedible, so the chutney and sauces we paid for to go with them were also useless. The curries themselves were incredibly runny, with about 6-8 pieces of meat floating in them (each one cost over £7). We paid £30 for the food and don’t feel that we got our money’s worth by a long shot.Unfortunately, when you order a takeaway to be delivered, taking it back involves a lot of time (either phoning the restaurant and having them pick it up and replace it, or driving it back yourself, which defeats the purpose of paying to have it delivered). In this case it was 9pm and so we made do. However, based on this experience, we won’t be repeat customers.

We come here regularly to enjoy the food as it is one of only a very few Indian menu places that really tastes authentic. As it is so well liked, you might have to wait a little for your grub, but it is its success that is to blame. However, the possible delay is worthwhile. Great for family occasions.

Very cosy restaurant so best to book beforehand as tables fill up fast from lots of walk-ins. Large choice on menu and the service was prompt but not too quick that you felt rushed. The food quality was delicious and my husband and I both opted for spicier dishes and they were full of flavour. Lots of people coming in for takeaway so clearly popular with the locals.We were on holiday as we normally live in Dubai and we were recommended to go to this place and it did not disappoint. Proper British Indian cuisine. Thanks

Working in the area went in for a sit down meal. Had lamb sag balti. It was tasty but the lamb was so tough and chewy. Ate half as very hungry. Told the guy about the lamb. Not expecting much but maybe an apology. No such luck. He told me that’s what lamb is meant to be like and if I came back in two weeks I’d have tough lamb again. Also that lamb is hard to cook . What a joke. Anyway I would avoid this place if possible as they can’t lamb as hard to cook and for the attitude when told about the terribly cooked meat.

Decided to try this restaurant as the reviews seemed very good and had a throughly enjoyable evening.

My partner and I visited over the weekend. We didn’t realise that the restaurant opened at 5:30 (as we arrived at 5:00) however a fantastic waiter welcomed us in and we were served immediately. Food is always of fantastic standard and great value for money. I can also 100% recommend their Sunday buffet, which has some great classic dishes.

One of our regular haunts. We had a takeaway tonight. Food consistently good and fresh tasting. Nothing has been hanging about. Service excellent.

Thirty of us had a Christmas party on a Monday evening from seven. We had a choice of a starter/main course/nan/rice or main course/side dish/nan/rice. Choices were from the normal menu. I thought the staff handled the ordering and serving of the food extremely well for such a crowd.

We dined at this restaurant whilst we were in Aldershot. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table. After dining here, we were impressed with the quality of the food as everything was superbly seasoned to give an array of mouth watering tastes and flavours. The usage of the spices and herbs was to a perfection that made it feel as though we were tasting a bit of India in our mouths. The aromas of the dishes was absolutely beautiful and natural. The restaurant was busy but the service was fine with lovely waiting staff. We left very happy with our dining experience here, and with the wonderful tastes and flavours with us..

shocking food was all so hot it was in edible, ruined a family meal with upset children!!

So after we had a flat tyre myself and my other half thought to order some take away. I had a chicken tikka masala with pilau rice and he had chicken biryani. On top of that we have also ordered a portion of sagaloo and a nan. Everything ( and we are both well traveled and fussy eaters) everything was perfect. My Tikka had an amazing red bright colour, the flavour was really tasty not too hot not too bland. Really yummy! First experience with this restaurant was impressive now I hope that the next one will be the same.

The Tuesday banquet night is a great value option. The madras is a large portion which is great for me!The dry starters are great too. Thoroughly reccomended

The service was good, (though there were only one or two other tables occupied whilst we were there mid week).The food was fresh.I had the Lamb jalfrezi which had two 'chiilis' on the menu meaning very hot, but it was not spicy at all. That and the tarka dall was too watery. The latter not worth the £3.75 cost, and £8.40 for a pint of lager & a bottle of water was way too expensive.My partner said her Chicken tikka and naan was nice.So I give 3 stars - plenty of room for improvement.

Sauce had clearly been watered down in both curries, and was forming puddles on the plate. The meat was also overcooked.

Tasteless rubbish to be honest. Ordered the hottest curry to clear a cold. No heat at all until I ate a chilli - veg curry was just sauce and potato - must try harder!

We ordered from here tonight a Chicken tikka masala Chicken madras Mushroom riceSag AlooGarlic NannAll of the food was delivered to our home address, the food was delivered in a timely manner but everything was cold!The Madras and Nan were stone cold, I had to reheat the madras and couldn't eat the nan.The tikka masala was warm enough to eat and the Sag Aloo was no betterI will never order from there again

This is a Sunday gem. At £6.95 per head. The food is off the finest quality.And the onion bhajis,I believe too be the best in Surrey.Always hot food. You will not be dissapionted. I was hesitant too give a review. As .I wanted for myself. But. I'm a great believer in promoting great eaterys.

Four of us went to the Spice Of India. Good menu and service was very good and attentive. Not that busy the night we visited All our food was excellent and no complaints. Small restaurant but nice atmosphere.Will return again. One of the better Indian restaurants in the area.

Personally wouldn't order from here again. Food was an hour later than what I was first told and had to contact them myself to find out where it was. When food arrived it was cold and the korma sauce was like water.

The food was great and very tasty but unfortunately we ordered poppadoms and they didn't come which was a shame.

Over an hour late. No apology from the restaurant. Terrible service.

My husband and I have been using this restaurant for a number of years, we have had 21sr birthdays 50th birthdays here and the staff have been absolutely amazing accommodating all our requests. We have on occasions had toddlers with us and the staff are just wonderful.We eat here regularly as the food is of a good standard. We love the Sunday buffet so much choice and excellent valve.
