Ashuka Tandoori in Guildford

We were greeted by Hassan last night who care to make us feel very at home. He made some good suggestions from the menu and enquired as to the heat factor we enjoyed . The pompadoms arrived warm on hot plates and the chutneys were very fresh and tasty We had the king prawn special and a lovely chicken mango dish the naans were soft and freshly made the garlic mushroom rice sublime. The wine list was very reasonable We really enjoyed great service and beautiful food thank you Hassan Tandoori Tim

Pleasant but NOT Indian food. I think they made up their own quisine because this has no relationship to actual Indian. It didn’t taste bad, but I would never go back.

We stopped returning to this restaurant a while back for inconsistency in their service and food. Recently we returned and gave them another try. 1st visit great food and service. 2nd visit food was ok - not consistent with the 1st visit and one of the main meals was wrong, they rushed out the correct dish but prawns were burnt and slushy - inedible. Not great…. Tonight we tried again - and again messed up the order (two people) one of the main dishes wasn’t ordered, even though we repeated ourselves three times, pointed to the dish twice and questioned the difference between the said dish and another. Anyhow it didn’t arrive and they told us we didn’t order it. They did offer to cook me one, but it would take 10 minutes, didn’t offer to keep the other items hot whilst this would happen, meaning my husband would of eaten on his own, as would I, once mine arrived. It appears takeaways seem to be priority - we were there no more than 45 minutes and at least 5 takeaways went out the door. It appears takeaways are the priority and the inconsistencies remain. Won’t be returning.

Visiting the area for a few days and this restaurant was recommended by someone in our hotel. Can honestly say this was the best Indian meal we have ever had. Wish it was nearer to our home in Yorkshire.

Food was unexciting and expensive, lacking flavour, despite a good presentation. A very popular restaurant with the locals, who rate it very highly, but, for an Indian restaurant, this place had never really produced meals with the depth of flavour that characterises proper Indian food. As such, it is excellent for the tastebuds of the local populace, but not for those whose tastes have experienced the cuisine of the Indian subcontinent.

There are so many things about this restaurant that I adore. The staff are so friendly to me and my brother, when I came up and picked a delivery my step dad, one of the staff popped 10 chocolates in my pocket, they were very tasty. When I eat in the restaurant, the service is soooo good! I will always be a customer, you have earned my respect!

This is a very busy restaurant and it can get a little noisy but thats more than acceptable . The food is served piping hot and the spices are simply fantastic . We were in a group of 6 people . Everyone loved the food although I have been here many times 4 of our guests seasoned travellers were so very pleased they are going back . Keep up the quality and service !

Great Sunday buffet Great value

Tonight was my first time at the Ashuka after a recommendation from my husband and I was not disappointed. Despite not being very busy (we dined early), the restaurant had a comfortable and welcoming feel. As more people arrived, it had more of a buzz without being too noisy. The food was absolutely delicious with plenty of flavours, it appeared freshly cooked and was beautifully served. The service was second to none without us being rushed (my friend talks a lot!!!) Even long after we had paid the bill, we were not rushed away. Thank you to our waiter, Ahmed, and all other staff.

What a lovely welcome. Super service. The tandoori prawns were delicious. We also enjoyed the Sunday buffet. I would like to most of all commend the delightful waiter who served us on two different days with charm and grace. He was so attentive, thoughtful, swift and forward-thinking. Positive and full of energy. If you are lucky he will also look after you. His nane is Ahmed. Thank you Ahmed for two delightful dining experiences at Ashuka in Guildford.

Always a good meal, with friendly staff!

We had s takeaway. A lamb biriyani and a chicken tikka biriyani with onion bahji s. The meat in my chicken dish was not nice the accompanying veg curry was liquid runny.the onion bhaji very dried up and hard. Was very disappointed as several months ago I had the same experience with chicken korma where sauce was like water and I thought we'd try again. Shame.....won't go again

My Wife, Daughter and I visit Ashuka most Sunday evenings. Over the years we've eaten in most Indian restaurants in and around the Guildford area. At Ashuka they're always very welcoming and we've always found the food to be delicious and the service first class. We really enjoy it. No doubt we're be back next Sunday. I would highly recommend a visit.

The food was only ok but I have to say that the waiters were not great. Whilst they were not abusive one in particular was “unpleasant”. Sadly, on leaving our only thought is that we wouldn’t go back.

I was told this was the best Curry House in Guildford and it could well be. Great selection of dishes, all cooked really well and delicious. I can't find fault with the quality of good or service however they add 12.5% service which I hate as I like to decide how much Tip I give.

Gave some fantastic food to the Beavers of 1st Merrow. All the kids loved the food and gave them an opportunity to try something new!

What can I say. My husband and I love the food there. Today they catered for our beaver colony in merrow and they service was fantastic. They put al into boxes so it was easy for 20 children to try. Packed beautifully. They food was so fantastic with the adults and the little people. I don’t normally like onion bhaji but theirs was crispy and the batter was divine. All I can say, Try it and judge for yourselves. This is Ashoka in Guildford.

AVOID ASHUKA TANDORI! Rude and abusive behaviour from owner Mehdi Noor and a member of staff Unfortunately experienced rude and abusive customer service over a large booking at Ashuka from both the owner Mehdi Noor and a member of staff who after being aggressive refused to give his name.

I haven’t been to Ashuka for a few years and fancied a family take out treat! The prawn puri was excellent but two of the main curries (tikka masala, muli) were very runny, large chunks of chicken and a lot of sweet flavour. Pathia was good. The onion bajees unfortunately were hard and inedible. Will try again but wonder if it was a one off or just how they make it these days. Service and packaging was good and food on time.

We tried this Indian for a take away on August bank holiday Monday and we were not disappointed. The staff were over and above helpful and the food was freshly cooked and lovely and hot . We enjoyed it so much we have booked to rent their Sunday buffet in a couple of weeks with friends

First experience in this restaurant. I have always been afraid of Indian cuisine since I really don't like spicy food. However, today we decided to go to celebrate our anniversary and give it a try. I do not regret. The atmosphere was calm, perfect for the occasion. The staff very kind and my dishes selection were perfect for my taste! I can really recommend!

Absolutely beautiful and lovely food. We bought our well behaved son and they were very complimentary about his behaviour and willingness to try spicy foods. We went on a Thursday night without reservation, got a table and was perfectly busy (not too loud not too quiet). Staff (and we think, owners) were all lovely too. Would definitely recommend over the other locally acclaimed curry garden.

Good value buffet lunch on Sundays (eat all you can), air conditioned comfort and good service. Reasonable choice of food, usually at least 3 different curries. Bright and airy restaurant, easy to relax and enjoy the meal. Update March 2020: much the same but looks to be under new management with new staff. Update July 2022: as good as ever, family do to celebrate my mum's 90th birthday and they surprised her with a small desert with sparkler fountain thing at the end. Very pleased, and looking forward to the next visit. Update March 2023: we've been back a few times over the past 11 months and it's still as good as ever. Update June 2023: as per March 2023

Just make sure you don’t laugh a little too loud with your companion at this restaurant or you’ll be asked to keep the noise down - seriously… So if you prefer a nice relaxing Friday evening with a friend I suggest you don’t eat here. Our whole evening out was ruined by the waiter literally telling us off. To be utterly honest, our meal wasn’t that special and there was no atmosphere at all in the restaurant last night. Sad but completely true. Ps, remember to speak in hushed self conscious tones to each other if you do eat here, and whatever you do don’t laugh.

As an Indian, I have to say the food flavour here was far from authentic. The first to last bite we were really dissatisfied and surprised how anyone would like the food if they knew what Indian food should taste like. Also annoyed that a few things we wanted were not available that day! Trying to be balanced here, great that they have cobra and kingfisher on tap and the naans were decent too. Will certainly not be visiting again, much rather have a pizza and stay in!

I had lamb bhuna it had no gravy as specified on menu it was a tomato sauce with no spice more like going for Italian food no onion salad with poppadoms very disappointed

The food is usually good. However, on this occasion I called up to enquire about trying the Sunday buffet at 1.30 and was told it closes at 2.30 as it says on the website. I travel 30 minutes, arrive at 2pm and am told it it closing so they refuse to seat me. Unbelievable. I spectacular way to p*ss off your customers.

I dined at your restaurant on new years eve And I am writing to inform you that I was so disappointed with the food that it has made me write an email, which is something that I never normally do I always eat the same order in any Indian restaurant Tandoori chicken starter Tandoori mixed grill. Ashuka platter Something I have had at the Ashuka 3 times before This time the meat certainly was below par even the starter which was over salty and not well cooked When my main arrived I couldn't believe it the chicken was a small thigh that had bones and a couple of thin small pieces. The lamb was two pieces of thin sliced meat none of which had seen the inside of a Tandoori oven no char at all It resembled a home cooked effort certainly no skewer marks On reporting this to the waiter a senior waiter arrived when I explained that the chicken was either small and limp or boney he proceeded to take a knife and fork to my plate and started cutting the chicken to find I was right, how rude this was. My wife had ordered the same dish and hers in comparison looked slightly better I pointed this out and was told I was wrong I had to reorder a different dish, chicken madras And believe I was not charged for this was also shocked in this event to see a service charge of 13.50 on the total bill. I understand that service charge may be automatically be added but as our entire evening had been spoilt I thought this was a cheek If you like I can forward you a picture of a Tandoori mixed grill from the Internet to show your chef In these times of adversity I think that dropping standards in any business is probably not a good thing Paul

Food is really nice but had to wait another 20 minutes (on top of the 40…) for a take away.

Really not impressed anymore. Cold food, they gave free onion salad and yogurt dip with the takeaway previously but not anymore! I think it’s time to try a new one as we haven’t been impressed for a while now

I have been visiting Ashuka Tandoori for past 6 month. The food tastes awesome. Excellent service, polite, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The owner is a gentleman, very polite , courteous & down to earth. A must visit place in Guildford to enjoy delicious cuisine.

We ordered takeaway and the food was disgusting. The meat was so old and dry (really tough) for a lamb shank, we had to put it in the garbage. As a matter of fact, we had a chicken tikka dansak, which was the same. Vapid and very bland. I thought we were eating this week's leftovers. The food was excellent quality and good portion sizes. We were extremely well looked after by Murshed who from the beginning went out of his way to make it a great birthday experience. He was very friendly and attentive throughout the meal. When he found out it was my birthday he insisted on getting a pudding with a sparkler in it to celebrate! We will definitely be returning!

Excellent food and very friendly and efficient service, this is probably the best in Surrey. Well worth our visit from Walton on Thames. Will recommend to friends and family. Tom & Mary 😀
