This is a delightful English pub, serving great pub food alongside excellent ales, lagers and wines. The staff were highly efficient and very friendly, without being intrusive. We are flying from Heathrow tomorrow and wanted a good meal before retiring to our hotel; this did not disappoint, in fact it’s our second visit and certainly won’t be our last. Thank you!

This is a lovely pub with a cosy atmosphere. The main impression is that it has retained a village feel without any loss of the food quality which was very high. Our party had among other things the steak pie, the sausage and mash and chicken pasta. The service was attentive. The menu selections are just right. Apple Crumble with custard for pudding. Don't think this is trying to be a super gastro pub it's just a very friendly and well managed local with very high quality pub food. An absolutely delicious and unfussy afternoon. The London Pride is well kept. My only comment would be to enquire if the landlord or landlady might think about keeping a couple of non alcohol IPAs bitter stout or porter bottles. There is Peroni and Heineken non alcohol at the time of writing. 10 out 10.

Stopped off about 8pm and we both had the Beef and Ale pie. It is, without a doubt, the best pie ever and are hand made by the chef. Go for the mash not the chips (should have listened to my wife!) - proper mash as opposed to that provided by catering companies/large chains. Good selection of real ales (Windsor and Eton brews plus others), wines and spirits. Pub is part of CAMRA. Staff very friendly and well behaved ;)

The pub's website makes it look very nice. When you get there you realise it's even nicer! The service was lovely, the ambience was lovely, the real ale was superb and the food was first class. The pub is very convenient for Heathrow, but well worth going out of your way for. There's a cheap public car park only a few minutes walk away, too.

We went into the Royal Stag by chance after a Thames walk. The staff were lovely, nice bottle of South African Sauvignon Blanc and their "famous" beef & ale pie! All the food was excellent particularly the pie which was first class, Three members of the group had the Cajun chicken salad & said it was super with a lot of chicken.

After a smiling welcoming hello from the bar staff, I have just finished the rump steak with chunky chips and peppercorn sauce. Not only was the steak cooked perfectly, it was also seared and cut to make it visually appealing. Taken together with perfectly cut (hot!) chips and associated salad, with peppercorn sauce served in a separate boat, the presentation of the dish was excellent. Steak knife and accompanying condiments served at the same time with no delay meant I had to wait zero time to enjoy my dinner. Washed down with a good quality pint of Doombar (other beers are available, including London Pride). I have enjoyed a thoroughly excellent meal at this pub. I recommend you try it.

We came for a family meal which unfortunately was very quickly disrupted by a very loud and very drunk group of 'men'. Who decided to sit in the eating area if the pub rather than sit by the bar. We had an elderly person and 2 children with us who really shouldn't have had to listen to them and the things they were shouting. They were spoken to twice by a member of my family but they didn't listen and the staff weren't bothered or interested about asking them to move back to the bar area. The food was nice. Nothing special about it, just generic pub grub.

Booked for lunch based on the on line menu, which was probably my mistake, in thinking that is what could be on offered, when you visit. We ended up with two beef dishes, which were rather chewy, so much so I had to pop along the road to purchase some emergency, dental floss at the chemist to restore my teeth. Strange welcome from a customer not the staff. Service was close to slow but pleasant. The other dinners were too loud and most were swearing far more than necessary than needed at lunch time.

We really enjoyed our dinner at the Royal Stag - food was great, a decent selection of drinks, quick and friendly service in a very pleasant dining area improvised from the top of the carpark.Bit of a bummer being told to "get out of the way" by a slurring glassy eyed labourer who looked like he'd been drinking steadily for several hours, who then barged past on his way to the toilets. Had dinner here Saturday evening, booked a table for 7 PM. I completely forgot Rugby was on and there were quite a few guys who were loud, probably had been there for a while. We were quickly moved to another table at the front of the pub. The staff were very friendly and polite, can't fault that. The food was OK, I opted for the crab and prawn linguine. It was just re-heated, I would expected them to have at least tossed it up a little bit to make it look fresh but the top looked dry when it was put in front of me. It was tasty and a good size portion. It is more of a pub a , than pub/diner, my mistake booking it. Parking is at a premium as well. No car park and we had a few minutes walk to the nearest car park.

We were helped to our table and looked after fantastically be very friendly staff both behind the bar and at our table. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was of a limited menu but plenty enough for a passing trade and we had no trouble selecting meals for two adults and two children. The food was of fantastic quality and the ales served were of an equally high standard. Overall a very enjoyable and reasonably priced night out that I would repeat if in the area.

On a autumn Wednesday evening we tried the steak and ale pie, as was suggested by our business guest who we were dining with. And it was superb, the what looked like pie sat on a bed of mash and curly kale with a rich gravy surrounding it. Our order was taken at the table which I liked, (unlike most gastro pubs where you order at the bar and give a table number?) the waitress was engaging and seemed only to pleased to help. The pub was warm, bright and welcoming. The red wines are always splendid in selection and temperature. All in all a lovely meal and experience.

We arrived to a sign saying "car park closed" - I went in and asked, because I had booked online and the car park was actually one of the reasons, because my mother doesn't walk well at the moment. They said they'd had problems with it and it was now just for staff and for deliveries. It was entirely empty - they suggested we park over the road in a pay car park, which was too far for my mother to walk. Eventually they relented and allowed us to park, but this did seem rather unnecessary to me. If the car park is out of action, it would be good if that was clear on the website, and perhaps they could shut the gate - then I would have booked elsewhere. But as it was, we stayed and the two ladies serving were very helpful - sadly that didn't stop our food being very tough (duck breast and rump steak). We did mention this and, while they offered to change my mother's meal, since it was a birthday we didn't really want to eat at different times. With my steak I ordered peppercorn sauce, which they said would be coming ... and it was at least 7 minutes before it arrived - I asked, did you forget to order it? They then admitted that they did. Sadly the steak was very tough and of course, cool by the time I could eat it - I was surprised they charged the full £18 + additional £2 for the sauce. Also surprised they charged the full amount for the duck, considering my mother couldn't eat most of it because it was so rubbery, and then they added a service charge to the bill.So I would say, if you want a drink it's a nice pub with lovely bar staff, but avoid the food - it's overpriced and sadly, badly cooked.

I only come here because there are no other pubs in Datchet. If there were, it would not be first choice. I’ve been to the Stag every week with friends after a club night for many years, and it has varied a lot in that time. Management seems to change a lot, and bar staff even more so. Some (in the last 12 months) have not even been trained. The Stag serves real ale from Windsor & Eton Brewery, among others, but of varying quality. In the last 5 visits, 2 different beers have been “off”.The lack of any proper management is especially evident in the way that loud, rude or inappropriate behaviour is tolerated (though thankfully not common). This was the case tonight. It’s a shame, because it’s a nice building, with character, and could be a lovely pub. But, for that, it needs someone who knows how to run a pub. I live in hope.

Food was good no complaints, but the service charge is not obvious. Not sure how you can apply a service charge for a village pub meal. Bit much and I guess aimed at the affluent tourist. Also with the serice charge Your £4.10 pint now becomes £4.51. It may be optional but let the customer decide to add a gratuity and not to be railroaded into a service charge.

Two of us for lunch on Wednesday. Have been to this pub quite a few times over the last 20 years. I was therefore so disappointed at our experience. Only us and another couple in the pub. There were two bar staff. The music was blaring which they turned down when asked. The two staff just seemed to be interested in themselves , talking loudly to each other. The girl went on about what she was going to have for lunch and then proceeded to sit down in the pub and eat. They then opened all the doors because it was a nice day apparently. Yes it was but still around 10 degrees outside. Then to cap it all some miserable woman came in and proceeded to open the gambling machine and add up all the cash. Not noisy at all. Then a conversation followed on how the machine was doing. It was as if we the customers didn’t exist. There needs to be some serious retraining done. Done or not , we won’t be going back.

Very very old pub with lots and lots of charm worth a visit in a charming village on a green only downside is that they don't do b&b; which we would definitely stay there

We hadn't booked a table but the staff were brilliant and fitted us in very quickly, even though it was a busy, summer evening. The staff could not do enough for us. The food was delicious. Highly recommend this place.

Good food on a nice atmosphere. A little expensive but taste made up for it. We would not go here as a regular but was more than acceptable for a passing drop in.

You won’t go wrong at the Royal Stag for great food and atmosphere. Get out of the tourist trap that is Windsor and enjoy some good old fashioned English hospitality here

Came here for a quick work hour lunch break - ordered straight away at bar & asked what the vegan options were, staff were great and adapted the pitta on the lunch menu - also have a nut allergy which was no problem. Was recommended the elderflower fever tree tonic which was amazing. Food came quick and was lovely. Will definitely return !!

I am fortunate and live locally enough to visit the Royal Stag, Datchet several times a year. This is a traditional pub that, although most visitors come to eat as well as drink, has managed to retain the old fashioned, welcoming atmosphere of a traditional Public House. Service is good, as is the food.

My friend and I found this little gem of a place by chance while in the area Geocaching. This place was so good! With a warm welcoming atmosphere. The management and staff were friendly and courteous throughout. It has a beautiful outdoor garden with a lovely aroma and a paved area with tables under a trellis with foliage, it is pretty, and just opposite the river Thames. They also have a playground nearby with a small crazy golf. The breakfast was value for money. With no frills and no fuss, everything is freshly cooked to order. Great location with good parking £5 for the whole day We will certainly be back when in the area again

Food was excellent. Damion was very attentive and helpful, particularly with the app, and we were very happy with our 25% off! Rotisserie chicken was delicious and juicy 🙌

We went twice over a weekend, good authentic Indian food on menu. Otherwise normal pub food. Staff accommodated our friends very well. Nice pub.
