Disappointed didn’t feel like value for money, portions didn’t feel that large for the price Sunday roast served till 5 pm we ate at 2.30pm Limited vegetables must have run out of roasts as roasts and boiled potatoes mixed on plate. Veg very boring just a few carrots and some cabbage Beef tasty but a bit tough, chicken served on the bone - not breast No extras like stuffing , sausages with chicken etc Yorkshire pudding and gravy lovely. Staff nice but seemed short staffed

Went with wife and friend for Sunday lunch. Of the selection of roasts available, my wife chose chicken, which came in an ample portion along with plenty of stuffing. I had a substantial and well-melted portion of slow roast pork belly with crisp crackling. Our friend picked the lamb shank and pronounced it excellent. Each was served with several vegetables and a Yorkshire, with sauces and extra gravy supplied. From the dessert menu two of us had the apple and nut crumble and custard, which was delicious. My wife was already full and simply had to watch. At very reasonable prices and with good beer and wine as well as prompt and affable service, it was an experience we intend to repeat before long.

Decided to come here because we needed somewhere mid way between where we all lived and this had very good reviews on TA. It did not disappoint at all but I am so glad we booked a table. We had booked a table for sunday lunch at 12:15 and got there just before 12pm with the pub not open yet (fair enough I hadnt actually checked the opening hours!) We went in and were shown to our table. Its is a lovely pub in a pleasant rural location and in summer the views across the fields would be even better. It isn't a busy road either as far as i could tell so there wasn't the constant noise of traffic passing by. The car park is a bit small but thats down to the location and can't be helped, there is a layby across the road which serves as an overflow.I think that the waitress we had was either brand new or filling in because we could here dicreet coaching going on before she came to our table - but that said she was friendly competant and didnt spill the food no drink - so no complaints there! It was a bit disconcerting being the only people in there and I did wonder whether this was the right decision, but within 20 minutes virtually all the tables were full up hence my comment about booking!the menu is not the most extensive but i think it is better to offer 3 or four of each course and do them WELL rather than have a huge menu and do it badly. Between us we all chose a different start and three of the main courses available.Everyone was happy with the starters and there was nothing but clean plates and bowls following them. similarly the mains were also fine. We had the roast beef, the lamb shank and the chicken all of which were piping hot and came with a satisfying quantity of veg and sides. Having eaten to our fill we decided not to try the desserts although there were some nice options on there. Our total bill for 4 including drinks was under £90 and all in all I would be happy to come here again. The landlord was very friendly and checked a couple of times that we were happy with our meal and overall the pub had a very nice atmosphere.

We dined at the Royal Oak for the first time in about four years. Now under new management for the past three years, it has improved enormously. The ambience in the restaurant (after restoration now at the front rather than the back of the pub) is warm, friendly and cosy even when there are few guests. The young waitress was very attentive, unobtrusive and keen to help while the landlord was extremely friendly, and made every effort to chat to us for a while even though there were customers at the bar beyond. The food was very good, just what you would expect and want from a pub. The crayfish salad was generous, fresh and delicious as was the pate dish. My wife had the lamb shank as a main course and again said it was extremely tasty and well cooked in a rich but not overpowering mint and rosemary gravy. I had the rump steak. I asked for it to be medium cooked and it was a touch more than that but was tasty nonetheless. This was perhaps because the main chef was off duty on this particular evening. We had two glasses of white wine to start and a bottle of house red with the meal. Her only criticism was that there was not a selection of ice creams, just vanilla. But overall, for a very reasonable £63.70, this was a most enjoyable evening out and well worth the money.

A group of six of us went here for a meal, as the Plough down the road had closed down. We didn't know what to expect, and the menu we saw in advance didn't look very inspiring. However, when we arrived, the place looked very nicely refurbished, and we were given a round table - perfect for a six-way conversation. Not a vast choice of beers, but the Youngs Hummingbird went down very well for three of us, as did the Special which was enjoyed by two others. When the food arrived, we were very pleasantly surprised. The starter portions were good and well presented, and more to the point, very tasty. The mains were also well up to the mark, good portions and obviously home cooked rather than from the freezer. I had the avocado, prawn and crayfish salad to start, which was at least as good as I was hoping, and the vegetable lasagne to follow, which was really tasty. It was served on a plate rather than one of those little oven-to-table dishes that you get in most pubs, that encourage you to burn your mouth at every forkful, and the side-salad with it was much better than normal pub-grub standard. A couple of my friends had the lamb cutlets which looked massive and finger-lickin' good. The desserts went down very well with those of us who still weren't full enough - a very chocolatey confection, sticky toffee pudding and a light and crispy creme brulee. All in all, a very enjoyable evening with friends in pleasant surroundings with delicious food that didn't break the bank. I think we'll be coming here again.

We dropped into The Royal Oak this weekend after a longish bike ride around The Surrey Hills (note 'around' not 'through' or 'over'). The people were friendly; there was football on the TV (an important prerequisite for my friend) and the pub was clean and inviting. For beer drinkers the choice is a little uninspiring but the ale was well kept and served with a smile (Youngs' Ordinary and Tribute from Cornwall). Food was OK: My pal was very complimentary about his squid rings, but I felt rather short-changed by the roast beef which, although well cooked, was very thinly sliced and insubstantial. Yorkshire pudding was perfect and the vegetables beautifully cooked. A little more meat on the late would have made me very happy. We didn't have a chance to try out the dessert menu so will have to arrange a return visit.

The Royal Oak used to be a place to avoid unless you wanted a cold lager and to sit outside in the sunshine. Since it's refurbishment it has become a very pleasant place to eat or just have a beer. The bar area and restaurant are completely separate so no overlap by drinkers while you are eating. The bar is so much nicer than the "public bar" feel it used to have, in fact the bar is now at the rear of the pub and all the wasted space that was the front bar is now a nicely decorated and cosy restaurant.I visited here again on Sunday to watch the rugby with a friend and we had a very enjoyable afternoon, lovely pints of Tribute too. I had previously visited in December when 4 of us had a very enjoyable dinner, the pheasant was excellent as was the lamb shank. Adrian is a very amiable host and the service from start to finish was faultless, as was the food. The Royal Oak will more than compensate the void void left in the area by the closure of the Plough at Blackbrook, it's a shame it took so long but certainly worth the wait.

We were expecting great things having read the reviews on Trip Advisor but we thought it was pretty average. The kitchen was busy with food orders from the bar when we arrived but we were warned there would be a delay so that was fair enough. The menu is very short, with 3 specials on the board, although by 1.15 pm on a Saturday, 1 was already sold out. My husband's Thai fish cakes were tasty but the portion was more like a starter than a main course. My mother-in-law's fish was OK but a bit greasy. Ham, egg and chips was nice - good ham - but it would be hard to make a mess of that! They were expecting a big party soon after we finished our main courses, so they were busy setting the tables, but we were never offered a pudding menu. Perhaps we caught it on a bad day but I didn't feel it came up to expectations.

Dilemma! You discover a good pub restaurant on your doorstep. Do you keep it to yourself, so you can always book a table, or tell everyone so that it's successful? With pubs closing daily the latter must be the answer especially when there has been such a transformation as has happened to the Royal Oak. A good pub deserves support. We've eaten here several times since the facelift. From home made soup and home made bread for a quick snack lunch to a full family get together Sunday lunch lasting several hours or an intimate dinner with friends. On every occasion we have been warmly welcomed and the chef has produced excellent food. The prices are sensible and make some of the High Street chain restaurants look very poor value. The decor is 'rural chic' with dark stone flooring, mismatching tables and chairs and a soft greeny grey paint scheme. Well done Bev and Adrian you deserve to be busy.John

I remember the Royal Oak well........ gave it a wide berth for a long time due to the type of customer's it attracted.I went there on Saturday with my family and I was absolutely gob-smacked by the recent renovations. The food, service and ambiance were great. Looks like we have found a nice, local pub serving good quality and fairly priced food.Well done!

Always a pleasure to go to. Warm welcome and good beer. Highlight of the year is always the August Bank Holiday weekend beer festival.

Recently refurbished, and what an incredible transformation with a very warm & friendly atmosphere and stunning food! The ribs were probably the best I've ever had and for a very reasonable price. My brother had the lamb shank which he demolished and the chicken breast was also thoroughly enjoyed! Highly recommend this very pleasant country pub.

My wife and I came here just after the recent refurbishment. What a transformation. The meal was excellent, my Wife had the stuffed chicken breast and I had the Pork Belly. The beer although not to adventurous was in really good order and a simple selection of wine. Desserts to die for, made on the premises too! Head Chef Rick really knows his onions. The waiting staff attentive without being overbearing and there was a really nice welcoming atmosphere both in the dinning room and the main bar. If it stays like this The Royal Oak will be a regular for us.....

Wonderful Easter Sunday lunch with the family. Great atmosphere, food and service. Must have been one of the busiest days of the year but the service was still fantastic. Vegan option excellent, inclu
