Our Daughter was celebrating her 21st Birthday and we had been recommended this hotel by a family member so we decided to go as its not far from where we live. . We had booked a table for six people and the afternoon tea we had was fantastic. The sandwiches were a great selection all on fresh bread, there was a fantastic selection of cakes and warm crumbly scones with jam and cream to die for. You can even have refills of tea and coffee. We also had a glass of lovely prosecco. The service from the restaurant manager and Johnny was exceptional, Thank you so much! I will be recommending this place to our family and friends and we will definitely be back!

3 of us had dinner off the a la Carte menu. Ginger and honey duck to die for. Cured salmon delicious. Mains of Cannon of Lamb with aubergine puree just as good. Pollock as well as the Mushroom risotto all superb. All presented very stylishly. Chef clearly knows his stuff. Served in the old fashioned way, waitresses bring to plated food to Maitre D who serves it to the diners. Breakfast again excellent. Can't praise the place enough. If you're in the area just go.

My daughter and I were treated to afternoon tea for mother’s day by my son in law. He had booked and paid for it sending us the booking details. We called in the morning to see if we could add my granddaughter but were told quite rudely that they were very busy and cannot add another person. When we arrived we were half greeted by the receptionist who asked for our voucher and told us to go down corridor to the left. Having passed a table of diners in the corridor we carried on to what looked like a waiting area, bar a restaurant reception? After waiting 5 mins for someone to acknowledge us, we were then left so they could set up the table and were again acknowledged by a second person. After sitting at our table the staff continued to take items off and add others, there was also enough room to have added a chair for my granddaughter. A waitress came and gave us a menu but didn’t explain anything, she came back with to glasses of wine and to take our drink order were we both ordered breakfast tea. She came back with our order and our afternoon tea stand, my daughters cup was dirty and the crockery was mismatched. We asked if we could swap the salmon as neither of us like salmon, we were told that we needed to do that at time of booking, we explained that we didn’t make the booking it was a present, but there was nothing they could do. That was the only interaction we had with anyone until we ordered a coke for my daughter. The restaurant was quite quiet at this time, however, there was a serving station that had dirty crockery on it and every drawer had been opened and left that way. What we had of the food was ok, but nothing special and not very well presented. Overall the experience was very disappointing and we will certainly not return in a hurry. My son in law was so upset that he booked us another afternoon tea elsewhere.

We received the gift voucher for afternoon tea with prosecco at Fredrick's Hotel so booked a table for 3.30 pm on a Saturday afternoon. We were booked in at reception as soon as we arrived and pointed in the direction of the restaurant, after a few moments wait we were shown to a table. Several other tables were occupied so there was quite a nice atmosphere. We were given a menu to make our choice of tea to drink, my husband had English breakfast, and I chose Wild Fusion, a sweet perfumed fruity tea. We were soon served with four types of sandwiches, fruit and plain scones with a dish of jam and a dish of clotted cream, and a variety of cakes. The sandwiches were well filled and the bread, both brown and white was a good quality. the scones were warm and nice texture, the cakes included a Bakewell slice, drizzle cake, carrot cake and a chocolate slice. Although nice they did not resemble the website picture. However there was definitely enough for two people and we were unable to eat all the cakes. The waiters were attentive and asked several times if we required anymore tea. One downside was the fact that we were seated in a an area that is also used as a corridor, and quite a few guests who were using the spa wandered through in towelling dressing gowns. It didn't spoil our enjoyment though, and it looked as though people at other tables were enjoying their afternoon tea experience as well.

As my daughter's apartment is right next door to Fredrick's we decided to try our luck and have lunch at this lovely Hotel. When we announced to the staff that we neither stayed at the hotel nor had made a reservation the he didn't seem to know how to handle this apparently unheard-of situation, and even though the restaurant was completely empty we got offered a table in the lounge area. Only a hint from our side that we might be more comfortable inside the restaurant earned us a table there. From then on things proceeded more smoothly. Ok, more or less. We had to make our choices from one shared menu for food and another one for drinks, the latter only containing wine and spirits, no beers or soft drinks. A rather casual approach which didn't match the elegant and formal setting of the house. We settled for a pulled-pork burger (♂) and the spicy chicken fajita (♂). While my wife liked her burger and the crispy chips, I wouldn't have objected if the fajita had been at least a tiny bit spicy. Fredrick, what's the point of calling a chicken spicy and then being too chicken to make it spicy? When I read the reviews and look at the photographs, dinner at Fredrick's must be a different story. Maybe it's just not the place for lunch, especially not as a walk-in guest.

We visited Fredrick’s for an afternoon tea on a Groupon voucher deal. It’s a lovely looking hotel, good decor, lovely looking grounds and attractive dining room. The afternoon tea was delicious and good value. I would give Fredrick’s five stars but for the service. It wasn’t bad but it was just missing a special touch. Little things like being told that the hot water for tea would be topped up but we had to ask for one pot to be topped up and the other two weren’t done at the same time. Another thing was that when the afternoon tea stands arrived there was no room on the table and space had to be made to fit them (it wasn’t a surprise there would be three stands as we were a party of seven) and we all helped make the room. I ended up holding a tea pot and was left holding the tea pot with no room on the table for it. And the other thing that springs to mind is the young waiter brought the bill but there was no space on the table for it and he tried to put it in my hand. I did feel he should’ve made the room on the table for it. These all sound really petty but they’re just examples of the difference of when service can be really great or just mediocre. Shame for a four star hotel. Don’t let it put you off going here but don’t expect to be made to feel really special.

I had attended a family do at lunch through to tea and decided to stay at the hotel, with dinner in the restaurant. Fortunately the meal was included in my room rate as I wouldn't have been happy paying for it. There was a menu in my room so that I could decide on my meal in advance. This arrangement naturally only works if the menu in the room is the same as what is being served in the restaurant, which it wasn't. Having had an entirely carnivorous lunch I thought I should balance my intake by choosing a vegetarian dinner. The sole vegetarian dishes did not appeal so using the restaurant's menu I chose goat cheese mouse followed by pan fried duck breast. I didn't really know what to expect from my starter. It was quite pleasant as a one off but not to be repeated. The duck breast consisted of two fingers of medium rare duck with soggy skin and about 10 grams of vegetables. Discarding the skin the meal was very nice but no help at all in helping me reach my recommended vegetable intake. According to the NHS I should eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day where a portion is 80 grams. After a private lunch and a dinner at Fredrick's I may have reached a total of 20 grams towards my target of 400 grams. There was no option on the menu for ordering side orders of vegetables. I should point out that service was very good. The staff were attentive and cheerful without being too familiar. If I had been paying separately for a two course meal the above would have cost £35.

I visited this hotel and restaurant with my friend on the Sunday Spa deal which was £99 each for B&B , a half hour spa treatment and a two course dinner in the restaurant. The choice also included a free upgrade to a suite. We stayed in the President Suite which was very nice and large but obviously hadn't been hovered properly as there were still 3 items on the floor belonging to previous customers. This room overlooks the car park so you may hear some traffic movement and deliveries if you have your window open. The spa treatment was lovely and the ladies there very nice. ( sorry I can't remember the names 🤔) the loungers around the pool are quite old and in a bit of a sorry state. We were most disappointed by the restaurant. The choice from the a la carte menu is VERY limited . It has a choice of 5 dishes. 2 fish, 1 fowl , 1 venison and 1 duck egg. We didn't fancy any of these dishes and asked to see the bar menu which was a bit better . However we were then told by the waitress that we would have to pay extra for 1 starter of nachos, that we wanted to share , as we were only entitled to two courses and we wanted desserts. Bear in mind that we had paid £70 for our two course meal in the deal and we would be getting around £45 worth of food . We asked to speak to the manager as the waitress was insistent that we pay for anything outside of the two courses. The young female manager eventually agreed that we didn't have to pay extra for a plate of nachos!! Both members of staff were ' take it or leave it attitude ' and made us feel unwelcome in the restaurant which only had 8 customers !! We had to get up and serve our own wine which had been left on a central table as the restaurant was devoid of staff. We asked for Irish coffees which were brought out in coffee cups on saucers. Mine was black so I had to ask for some cream! My friends was white but was stone cold so we asked for a replacement for which we waited over 20 mins as the manager said the coffee machine wasn't working and the chef didn't know how to make an Irish coffee properly. The breakfast next morning was very nice but we asked to sit outside as it was a lovely morning and were told no as the waiter was the only one on duty. There were around 8 customers again in the restaurant. I am really disappointed to have £198 for such an experience and it really spoiled my friends birthday gift. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

I was here on business the day after Valentine's day so the restaurant was full of couples yet to finish their weekend break I guess. A table for 1 was perhaps a bit of an odd one in that setting, but the service was good and the food arrived quite fast. It's good quality food, though like the hotel, perhaps a little over-priced. I had a venison main course, which was really spectacular, but I would have appreciated a bit more venison. I'm not a big eater at all but 2 courses in this restaurant was only just about enough. That in itself actually isn't an issue I suppose for this type of restaurant - it's more that my venison was so nice I would have really enjoyed a fuller portion!

Years ago when we lived in Maidenhead we were frequent visitors to Fredrick's The original owner Freddy Losel ran the hotel/restaurant as a very tight ship and customer service and expectation was 100%. Al'a Carte menu superb and the atmosphere from the staff was exemplary. Mr Losel will be retired by now and we both wish him well and a peaceful rest after putting so much energy into Fredrick's.We were back in Maidenhead last night for our 30th wedding anniversary so the choice of where to eat was a given.Food was very good and the dishes present very well, chef knows his stuff although the menu was a little limited each dish was cooked to perfection. Chatting to our server who looked after us well he mentioned a change of management and new head chef who is consolidating the menu design. The restaurant decoration had not changed in 15 years which I thought will be targeted soon as the new management team get to grips with any refurbishment that is required. I have to say the old style although dated now was a flag ship in its day and brought back many fond memories to us both remembering previous special occasions as well as when we just dropped in for a great meal at one of out favourite watering holes. The hotel was always a luxurious place to stay and the restaurant was outstanding and an establishment that should have ran to a Michelin star or two. It would be wonderful to know that the new management can take Fredrick's back to it's original position and the place to eat and stay west of London. In the past Fredrick's was the only real opposition to other fine establishments such as The Waterside and the Fat Duck so I hope the new management team grasp this challenge and ensure Fredericks returns to a premier position, thanks for a great meal last night.

A rather serious gentleman was at the front desk on arrival; he didn't even say "enjoy your stay"; restaurant staff a bit stiff and unfriendly too; when staff pass you in the hotel nobody has a smile which is a real shame. Overall it's all so-so, but some small changes would make all the difference.

Wife and I had dinner here last week. We came on a Groupon offer where we got Canapes, a glass a prosecco and a 5 course meal.It is a hotel restaurant so they may not get that many non-guests eating here but the dining room is nice, if a little formal. The main maitre d' was a little on the formal side but lightened up as the evening progressed, and the other waitresses were both very nice and quite helpful. We had a slight wine spillage on the table and they dealt with it quickly and with good humor. The only small stumble is that they brought the cheese course before the desert course but it didn't bother us and a waitress was quick to spot the mistake and come to apologise. In general the food was all well cooked and well seasoned, but overall it lacked a bit of flair. Also, on the tasting menu, two of the dishes were just too similar - the chicken ballotine (very small and boring) and the Crab and Avocado salad (our favorite dish) were both topped with the same salad leaves. The main dish - Pork Fillet and Cheek was very tasty although my piece of fillet was a bit dry - the amazingly tender and tasty cheek made up for it though. The cheese was fine but a little inelegantly plated, but the desert was a very tasty and properly gooey chocolate fondant. The wine list was silly - a huge looking book that only had a couple pages of actual wine choices that I found a bit limited for a restaurant like this.My wife was happy enough with the meal because her expectations were low prior to going and I left a little disappointed because my expectations were higher (i'd read many good reviews of the place) - IMHO it could (and should) be more than it is...which is just an average Spa/Hotel restaurant. We ended up spending about £100 with wine (with the offer) and I would have been very disappointed if I had paid full price for this meal. Nothing wrong with the place, just nothing to make me want to go back again.

Did girls that do lunch this week. Both ordered chicken caesar salad - what a mistake. Croutons were very greasy fried bread cut into squares. Chicken looked as though it had been put in the deep fat fryer, greasy, dried out and not a lot of it. The grand total of 2 anchovies! Ordered a portion of chips on the side - 8 creasy chips in a small bowl was dished up. Along with the 2 lime and sodas we had we had a bill for £42 (including the service charge and VAT). Will I be returning - no. How can you go wrong with chicken Caesar salad?

Booked a spa day at Frederick's for my daughter's birthday, which included a 2 course lunch. Having been welcomed and shown the spa facilities we relaxed around the pool. We knew lunch was arranged for us for 12.30 pm and were collected and shown to our table ~ we were asked our preference for inside or on the patio, and as it was such a beautiful day we chose outside. We selected our courses on arrival and both had fresh tomato soup followed by roast beef. The food was lovely and there was plenty of it. The spa staff were friendly, helpful and courteous and nothing was too much trouble. In all we had a really lovely, relaxing day at the spa which was of course helped by the very good weather. We would have no hesitation in recommending and look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Anniversary time again and I booked us in at Fredrick's for the Château de Fredrick’s special offering; two mains, two deserts, a bottle of wine and two glasses of dessert wine for under £100 (details on the website under 'specials'). As this was about my budget for the occasion it seemed ideal that we could go for a set price deal and then not have to worry about going overboard.Access to the restaurant is through the main reception, rather than the door that leads directly into the restaurant (had a bit of struggle with this before I realised it was locked). The place is a pleasant enough building in the quieter residential south of Maidenhead. We didn't see any hint of it being 'run down' as some previous reviewers have suggested, the interiors were airy, modern and light with impeccable white linen tablecloths, monogramed tableware and smartly turned out staff. Arriving at the dinning room we found it entirely deserted of other patrons which was a little eerie, however we were welcomed warmly enough and shown to our table. We later found out the surrounding calm was due to a wedding going in the hotel that evening, however I can not say that the service we received was in anyway impacted or that we were disturbed by the celebrations. The only problem we did have was that despite having booked the Château de Fredrick’s offer the week before, the reservation hadn't made it to the kitchen and they had not bought any of that particular cut of beef in for us. This was a little disappointing as we had been looking forward to a Châteaubriand all week. It is here that the quick thinking manageress stepped in and after an apology and a round of drinks she had come up with an acceptable alternative of delivering the same deal with slightly different steak and wine. A simple move on her behalf you may think, but it was really refreshing to see this sort of quick thinking, customer focussed service approach, which is not always achieved by some establishments. The steaks were bang on rare (as requested) and came with duck fat chips, béarnaise sauce and tomato, red onion and green leaf salad. The portions, although artfully presented, where in no way meagre in size and the beef really went nicely with the bottle of Malbec we were recommended. Dessert came with a little theatre in that the crêpe suzette was cooked on a trolley at the table. There was something of an element of danger as this was our waitresses' first go at this with customers, although she could well have been putting it on for our entertainment and got away with only a light singeing as she lit the Grand Marnier. The meal really was very good for the price and by the end we felt very well looked after. I would very much recommend it for a quiet getaway.with vanilla ice creamOnly £49 per coupleAdd a bottle of Château Cissac Haut-Médoc and 2 glasses of dessert winefor only another £49 per couple

We came here for lunch for my birthday. They have been running a special offer for lunch 2 people, 3 courses, £25.00! Unbelievable value. I had smoked salmon to start (large portion with bread), a roast chicken for two to share carved at the table with all the trimmings. The jus was delicious. For dessert l had creme brûlée with three little shortbread biscuits. Service was attentive. For £12.50 a head you could not ask for more.It is only a pity that they didn't change the menu part way through the offer period as we would have returned.

We returned to Fredrick's after a gap of many years to celebrate Mothers Day. The receptionist greeted us with a warm smile and an offer to show us to the restaurant. The maitre'd was in a hurry rushing backwards and forward, it was not always clear what he was trying to achieve. We assumed he was dealing with a very busy restaurant. But we were happy and relaxed, found a place to sit for ourselves and the 45 minutes before the table was ready flashed by, as did the maitre 'd and barman. Some canapés were served; the hot ones almost as warm as the cold ones. We were becoming aware the standards had slipped since the happy memories from 30 years ago. There were warning signs - crooked mirror, self service coat rack, preoccupied staff... but they were busy, the dashing to and fro, surely they were busy.Eventually we were shown to our corner table at the back of the quiet restaurant, not the window seat we had asked for when we booked. But they weren't that busy so i wondered where they were they rushing too all the time? My starter was spectacular belly pork crackling and a scallop, it was beautifully cooked and well presented, the other starter was reportedly fine; a great butternut squash soup. Service continued to be a bit dodgy and we overheard the table next door explain that they didn't need their dessert wines which had arrived long after they had finished their meal. The mains arrived, carvery beef and lamb. Nice pink beef but the lamb was overcooked and, like the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, the lamb was completely indelible. We didn't stay for desert and the restaurant waived the fixed price for one of the meals (without objection, recognising that the lamb was inedible) but we still left the 20% discount certificate for our next meal on the table. We won't be going back. It is hard to give a rating as some of the food was great but the overall package was quite disappointing and they did the one thing that I really dislike which is to charge service on the bill and also ask for gratuities.

For us, this was a welcome return to the hotel and restaurant that hosted our wedding reception so splendidly. We didn't mind that both bar and restaurant were quiet as this was an evening just for us, celebrating our wedding anniversary. And celebrate we did, attentively assisted by the barman who made a couple of very welcome cocktails as well as being knowledgeable about dishes on the menu, taking our order and escorting us to our table. The quiet, friendly, efficient but attentive service of the restaurant manager and our waitress ensured that we were able to relax and enjoy our evening out. As for the food, well, we could easily have chosen from the Menu du Jour but chose instead from the sensibly limited A la Carte menu. We thoroughly enjoyed every elegantly presented dish - right down to the petit fours with our coffee.

This is a lovely place hidden away off a busy street. Everything was perfect, the food, glass of wine or champagne on arrival, the spa and treatments. The only thing I would say is that the receptionist didnt tell us the time for breakfast on Sunday morning, therfore we arrived 10 mins late at 9.40 to be greeted by frosty staff. I understand that there was probably a book in the room that gave us this information, however it would have been nice to have been told.

A promising start as we were welcomed by a very polite receptionist but the room can at best be described as tired and dated. Thank goodness we booked treatments in the Spa, the staff in there were friendly and we both came away having enjoyed the treatments. That sadly is the end of the positives. The dinner is the most disappointing we've had in the last decade (possibly longer). It could be a qualifier for Ramsay's kitchen nightmares - a classic example of food which is way over priced and poor quality. Normally if a surprise arrives to kick start the meal it showcases the chef at his or her best. I suppose in hindsight the sweet potato soup should have warned us that the palate of our chef left a little to be desired. The main course, a sirloin steak, tasted of a dirty grill, the decorative tomato had four 'corners' peeled back and burnt, the chips were edible but hardly worth the £28 for the dish. We didn't bother with pudding - could face another blow. Clearly restaurants need to make a profit to survive but I suspect this business is making up for a lack of patrons with a wine list generally running at a 400% mark up, a simple pasta dish over £15 and a nearly £30 a steak (equivalent to or more than some of London's great restaurants charge). People wonder why the British head abroad more often than not for holidays and even mini breaks sadly this experience is one of those reasons. The maitre'd did have the good grace to discount our bill by one steak, while telling us that they always receive lots of compliments about the food, but needless to say we will not be returning.

It is a stylish reastaurant, as it always has been. But it is not as good as it was. The food, beautifully and attentively served was unexciting; sludgy brown and grey with no colour. The flavours were good but not stand out. Better than you could do at home but not really as tasty. Good wine list with loads of variety at a very good range of prices from excellent value to top price. So, we had a good time but will not go back for a good while; perhaps until another change of ownership which is what it needs.
