Red Rose in Guildford

Disappointed-shashlik wasn’t sizzling and chicken wasn’t chunks more like slices! Felt like towards 930 we were being rushed to go, kids disappointed no ice cream.

The food quality and standard has dropped beyond all recognition! I have been visiting this restaurant since it opened many years ago but sadly i will not be returning. My food on Saturday night was watery, grainy and virtually tasteless! I was so disappointed i decided to email the restaurant who has not even bother to respond!

Most of the reviews for the Red Rose are from years ago .The New Rose has only been open a few weeks . I have been eating at Indian restaurants for 50 years starting with The Taj Mahal in North Street and know a thing or two about their quality . The Chicken tikka dhansak that was delivered on Saturday night was truly awful.Never again !!

I have been visiting the Red Rose for 15+ years and I am sorry to say The New Rose is not good at all. I have sent an email directly but I have not had a reply. The food quality was pretty awful. My father described it as possibly the worst takeaway he had had. The food was extremely bland and had virtually no flavour whatsoever! We will not be returning guests.

Food was lovely, full of flavour. Some miscommunication along the way but didn't bother me much. Food is 5 stars. Free parking all parking.

We are very fortunate to live only 1 minute walk away from Guildford's best Indian restaurant. We always loved the Red Rose for the amazing food, but now as The New Rose, they have added ambiance and excellent friendly service too. The best onion bhaji I've had. The garlic chilli chicken is a favourite. Delicious tender lamb Rogan Josh. Tarka dhall with garlic naan for dipping. Saag paneer and aloo gobi + light and fluffy pilau rice. We always order extra to take home too! It's a hidden gem and we recommend dining in for the best experience

Fabulous meal couldn’t fault the service or quality of the food. Everything was perfect. The new owners have certainly rectified any previous issues. This could become our favourite Indian restaurant

We ordered a take away from The New Rose and it was excellent. The food is outstanding, the best Indian we've ever had. The meal arrives all well packaged, it's delivered by very friendly staff and not an oily item in sight. Would highly recommend them for a takeaway and definitely try the pashwari naan - it's divine!

A group of 15 friends visited the restaurant on a Thursday evening. I was disappointed with the food we ordered.

I've now had a decent takeaway, and more recently sat in a largely empty restaurant and can say things have improved since the new management's dreadful start. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, service was a little slow but friendly, so happy to once again give the New Rose the thumbs up 👍

This restaurant used to be a really good place to visit, but suffered through Covid, and has since been taken over by new management. Customers have obviously voted with their feet, as, on a Friday night, there were only two tables occupied, and, despite a steady stream of takeaway collections, there were really not many people collecting. The food was lacking in depth of flavour, the portions small, and the service was very slow and lacklustre. I hope they find their feet soon and restore the place to its former glory.

Had a delicious lunch here today. Food was really tasty, we were looked after really well by the staff and the price was very reasonable too. Thank you.

Punctual delivery on a Friday night, food was fantastic, very thick and tasty BUT I spent the whole night after enjoying it regretting it, I have never had my stomach feel so bloated , it affected my sleep and I punished the toilet for hours. I’m not sure what they cook with but the ingredients did not agree with my stomach. It was a guilty pleasure though as the food did taste great at the time, not sure I would take the punishment again though.

Have been ordering from here for years as the best Indian takeaway away in Guildford imo but have just done so again. I believe the place is under new owners. Sadly the food was unrecognisable, the tikka masala and the lamb were both so bland. I don't think I'll be going back.

Very friendly place , now run by the Nepali but with original chef's from before the staff are so friendly and the food exceptional , well worth eating in as you get what you pay for , great food

Is not my first time coming, i already como me like 3 times. Every time i get served by the same guy, a nice gentlelman called Sailendra. He's always so respectfully, whit a nice smille, alwas attent if i need antthing ( i finish my drink and he just come whit a glass of water as he know me already) The food, is good, and im a chef so i now what im talking about. You wait like 5&10 minits and you get a nice and tasty dishes, you really can feel the quality of the dish. The ambient, the restaurant location is not the best one to get nice views, but then you go inside and... Oh man. Very nice charming decoration, you really relax whit the ambient music. Definitly i will come back, definitly i will speack good about this place.

Really nice Tikka masala,weird shape for chicken,I'm used to cubes,this was long chunks, flavor was nice,the saga aloo was yummy,still hot to eat even though it was delivery,😊

Amazing food amazing staff very friendly relaxed atmosphere and wowwwwwwwww new look new name. Highly recomended for social gathering or family meal. Plenty of parking and easy access. Thank you to all the staff that made us feel very welcome.

The service was exceptional and the staff was attentive, friendly. They made great recommendations and ensured that we had a fantastic dining experience. Also, the food was top notch, showcasing the authentic flavors of Indian cuisine. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

The dinner arrived 40 minutes late this is not the go to red rose of the last 10 years the food was poor vegetables over cooked this is the last time I will order from them

Ordered by their website and received a confirmation email. Waited an hour and nothing arrived. I called the restaurant and they hadn't received my order. The guy said "oh yeh, orders aren't coming through tonight for some reason"! He said they could take the order over the phone but I'd have to pay again. At that point I went elsewhere and I won't ever be using the Red Rose again. Ruined our evening.

Had a takeaway. Always courteous, and my lamb biryani was excellent. Saved the other half and had it the next day! Update: had a takeaway 16 December 2023 - very oily and leaked into the bag. Sadly the biryani sauce was drowned in oil. It felt like their usual cook/staff might not have been there. Not to their usual standard.

I was hungry and went to get some food, the girl just walked towards front door and said we have tables but kitchen is busy. Basically she meant go away. What a first impression. Pathetic.

Third takeaway under the new management. The first had e errors in the delivery. The second disappointed because the food seemed dull, but I thought I'd try once more and really disappointed again. Lacked flavour, spice and really disappointed, bring back the old chef, this is very poor.

Ordered a takeaway for a Saturday night for 4 people. Arrived at the prescribed time to collect and then had to wait 20 minutes. The restaurant was about 30% full at 8pm on a Saturday night, you can draw your own conclusions from that. Food was very average and just about cooked through. The chicken in our meals was cut into rough chunks a good 3 inches square, far to large in my opinion. The Bombay potatoes were barely cooked and you could still taste raw onion. The service was good and very polite and the restaurant itself well presented, but the food let's it down unfortunately.

In spite of the less than glowing reviews of this Indian restaurant, we chose to eat here because it was within walking distance of our hotel. And we were very glad we did. The staff were lovely and friendly and the food was excellent. There were dishes onthe menu that Ihad not seen before, such as Hariyali Lamb Tikka Masala which I ordered and which was utterly delicious and not like any curry I've had before. My husband had the lamb karai which he also said was delicious and we ordered a vegetable badami side dish, another new one on us an again excellent. We can recommend this restaurant.

Very disappointing visit, service slow and the restaurant wasn't even full, when the food arrived it was nice but took far too long to arrive, one waiter was rude to a colleague when he asked about his food! The overall condition off the carpet is that it needs to be taken up and either replaced with new or wood flooring chairs and feet stuck to it! Overall will not be in a hurry to revisit sorry!

Premium price for a bland Curry and a burnt naan. Red rose is not what it used to be. Avoid!

Oh dear !! 1st disappointment no BYO. Then a disjointed service, ordered popadoms ✔️ then had to prompt for our onion Bhaji starter. They kept trying to bring my main course chicken tikka out when I was still eating my starter ! Really !! Waiting staff were clueless. Main courses came out x3 but not my chicken tikka ! 🤣 To be fair, food was good but service was a joke ! Alarm bells should have rung by the amount of empty tables for a Friday night! The funny thing was they brought out a complimentary chicken tandoori !? Which was a nice thought, but we simply couldn’t eat it. So funny! And bless them they said we wouldn’t be charged for the complimentary chicken, Tandoori 😂 you don’t say! So sadly this is the new management, What has happened? Where have the former Bangladeshi owners gone n??? What a shame, this used to be the best Indian around the area, and furthermore, this is to become a Nepolese restaurant... Watch this space 😬

This has been our go to Indian takeaway for many years, always fantastic service and great food. Since what appears to be new management I have now had the displeasure of twice trying to order from them. I requested nothing different in terms of food, service or time and was rudely met with absolutely no desire to maintain thier previous standards. I have previously recommended this restaurant to many people. I am now longer willing to give them my custom and most defintely will not recommend them to anyone. Such a shame.

The “RED ROSE” management should consider remaining this as the Worst Indian Restaurant now . Their service was one of the best I have ever experienced. but new owner Rude and impolite would sum up the service. he didn’t understand english properly. Food - nothing special. No flavour and price too expensive. i think they change old chefs.If you ever come across this place, please avoid it.

Been coming on and off for years. 2019 in the UK for a visit & taking family out for a meal. Think it's changed a bit over the lats few years but still above average for Indian/Bangladeshi cuisine. EDIT again back 2023, still good, compares well to most other Indian restaurants I've been too in all countries.

Excellent meal, as always. Portions are generous and it always arrives freshly cooked. We visit this Bangladeshi restaurant quite frequently and of the view that the food is hard to beat. Until recently the restaurant didn’t hold a liquor licence and guests could take along their own alcohol, which was always a real plus for keeping the costs down. They didn’t even charge a corkage fee which was always a bit of a surprise. Our visit the other night was a shock to learn that, under a new owner, alcohol has now to be purchased from the menu (although regular guests are told they have some grace time to learn of this). In my opinion this is a mistake and will certainly impact upon our decision to attend as frequently as we did do. The absence of customers (we were the only ones in there) on what should be a busy night might support our view. Such a shame to lose this rare benefit at what is otherwise an excellent culinary experience. If it had to change, introduce a corkage fee, rather than abolish ‘bring your own alcohol’ - you may live to regret it!

Just had a delicious meal served with a very genuine smile. Always find the food and service at the Red Rose is excellent. Couldn’t fault it. Btw they are now licensed again.

Best Indian food in Guildford in my opinion.

Had the worst experience here Ever! Sat in to dine, noticed my fish dish tasted weird then the manager came over and said he needs my plate. I said the fish is off isn't it? He said yes. After this my cousin that had flown in from Dubai for my bday and my aunty were put off their food. We got the bill, we had been charged for everything no discount even for my rotten fish they took! The manager was So rude and even laughed at us when i said could have been poisoned! He stated I never ate the fish and yhwr he'd came straight to tell me it was off when othet managers might not have! I managed to get my off fish I never ate struck from the bill and tried to get other food taken off as it hadn't all been eaten due to worry of food standards. One of my worst experiences in a restaurant!! Will never go back there again!

Best curry house comfortably in Guildford. As someone who has 2/3 per week this never disappoints it is a shame in a lot of ways that it is not closer to the centre of Guildford but can’t fault any of the dishes or staff.

Been going to Red Rose for years, and still go once a month most months. A decent menu with something for most tastes. We have a lot of favourites that never disappoint, and we always leave happy. There’s no alcohol licence, but there’s a shop next door that sells beer, wine, and spirits. (check times). Very fair prices - especially when you’re not paying £6+ for a beer.

Food, service and atmosphere just superb.

Table of four! Didn't realise was bring your own alcohol, wasn't a problem we all had soft drinks. Staff slow and didn't understand our order. Took two servers for us to repeat it too before they got it. Just dumped anywhere on table so we all had handle plates once put down. Slow.service no checkback no dessert offered so we left. Wont be back. Poor

The October outing of the curry club saw eleven members at this venue, after not having been there for quite a long while … they were not disappointed. The food was served in good time and was delicious; the members made a particular comment on the value for money and quality of the meal. Note that this venue does not serve alcohol, but that’s not an issue as you can bring your own drinks or they do serve soft drinks. Definitely worth a look here if you’re in Guildford.

tried to order food 2 nights in a row, the guy on the telephone was useless

I’ve been a customer for 10+ years and have loved this place eat in or takeaway. Tonight however, it didn’t go so perfectly as usual.To begin with, I was being quite a difficult customer, challenging them to a spicy, but creamy curry I hadn’t had before. I was recommended an extra hot Murgh Makhoni. However the food when it arrived was the wrong order! Then after calling, it was confirmed it was a mix up. They picked up the wrong order curry and I patiently waited for mine. However another 45 minutes went by. So I called back to confirm I wanted to cancel for a refund as I was worried the food would be cold. They reassured me another was being made fresh as we spoke, as my original was sent quite far, and would definitely have been too cold. And Boy, when it turned up was it fresh! It was piping hot, and made to perfection. It was honestly the BEST curry I’ve ever had. Naan bread was perfect, the Murgh Makhoni extra hot was unbelievable. The Red Rose team pulled it out the bag tonight in the face of adversity. Great job guys and thanks again.

Looked at the reviews before I visited And thought I’d make my own mind up As I stayed in the establishment 23 years ago Anyway it’s a bring your own beer or wine establishment I ordered the king prawns to start with chilli First class. A ten for r the starter Main meal mixed grill, fault no salad no sauce Anyway waiter told me this, I ordered a madras sauce and it was amazing Also asked for masala chips, another level 23 years I’ve traveled the country and ate more Indian food than the average bear What I’m saying is This place is a place I’d recommend

I’ve never been so scarred by a Indian takeaway. It’s the worst I've ever had and the most white-washed and flavourless. Don’t trust the reviews they’ve obviously been made by people with no taste buds. They only thing that made me feel better about this depression meal is leaving this review to warn others and prevent future disappointment. They managed to make the mutter paneer bad and it’s one of the most simplest dishes. The butter chicken tasted too sweet for some reason. I don’t know who the chefs are or what recipes they used but one thing I know for sure, even someone who is bad at cooking could make it better at home. -1000/10. I feel scammed.

Best Indian takeaway I've had for a long time in Guildford , keep it up

It's Expensive but different. I paid about £10 more than my local takeaway average for the same dishes - a starter, two main dishes, one rice and two breads (naan and chapati). Had I known the price would have been this high, for a collection order, I would not have ordered. That said, the food was not the traditional Indian restaurant fare with the typical base gravy. The usual British Indian restaurant base gravy was replaced with a more traditional curry gravy that would have been brilliant had it not been too salty for me. The lamb kebab starter was however very good and, again, very different: flat pieces of lamb marinaded in a not too salty curry paste. The salad was also fresh and contained a range of salad leaves adding different colour and texture. I have no doubt that the quality of ingredients used here, and especially the meat, is well above the local norm. Despite the high price, the fact that I ordered takeaway and collected, there were no complimentary poppadoms. I should have checked but at these prices I really would have expected at least one complimentary poppadom. My biggest criticism is that my main dish was too salty for me to the extent I couldn't really enjoy the flavours that seemed to be lurking underneath. This is subjective but less salt and more chilli would have turned the experience around. Very interesting and very different, including really good wholemeal flour use in the chapati. The lamb was unusually tender and, I think, of a superior quality to that served by the majority of Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants. The fairly high price, lack of added value for a takeaway and too much salt for me in the main meal means I probably won't visit again.

We have been looking for a reliable and tasty curry house for our regular takeaway. After trying all the top listed ones around Guildford, we were frustrated by the fact that everywhere seemed to be a bit hit and miss. Red Rose doesn't seem to be pushing for reviews as with other places we've been, but it's hands down the best curry house in the area. We often go for the mixed grill and couple of other curries and they always come out well cooked and delicious. My neighbours and I agree, it's the best local gem for an Indian takeaway.

Red Rose is the best Indian restaurant in Guildford, the consistently of the quality of their food from eating in to takeaway is phenomenal, the service is also amazing.

Food was decent but the customer service was terrible. Waiter’s were practically ignoring us even though it was a quiet Saturday evening.
