Purbani in Guildford

Have ordered from them a few times already, and the food is top quality every time. Great portions, brilliant starters, and they also take chillis seriously. You get what you ask for. The only suggestion for improvement that I have is to correct some of the spelling errors online (we use Uber Eats). Only a minor detail though.

We got our food via Uber Eats, the speed of delivery and service was very impressive and food arrived piping hot! But unfortunately the food is so sweet, my wife got the Korma which we know is a sweeter dish, but this was far too sweet. The tikka Masala sauce was lovely but the chicken for me was rather dry too. However there was a generous portion of meat to sauce ratio and you could tell the chicken was nicely marinated. Also our Saag Paneer was sugar heaven too, I've never had it so sweet and coconuty, it was as though it basically had the Korma sauce in it too. Unfortunately the first time we ordered here was 2019, and we got sent the most bland food, it was like the spices wasn't added in if I'm honest. We tried again and as much the flavour was there, it was far too sweet.

Quality has dropped from average to unacceptable. I ordered two curries and neither were authentic or pleasant - a pasanda is not a bad korma with peanut butter in it, and a pathia is not a bad madras with sweet chilli sauce added. Staff are so pleasant but never again. Overpriced and unacceptable. Plus they’ll text you repeatedly afterwards.

This takeaway restaurant is very, very good. We regularly choose a chicken masala madras strength with a couple of side dishes, a rice & a naan and it is just the right amount for a couple. The added benefit is that the Kings Head pub is next door so you can have a drink & wait for your order. The staff are always pleasant and it is clearly popular owing to the constant stream of delivery drivers collecting.

Excellent as always , I’ve tried most curry houses in Guildford and purbani is by far the best. They have an excellent menu with loads to choose from and the food is always very well made. If you fancy a hot one go for the captain naga , it’s nice and hot and mega tasty , they do a really good chicken madras and the korai is a really nice mild dish.

Had a superb buffet curry for 40 people delivered promptly at 6pm last Saturday evening for my sons suprise 21st Birthday Party. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we would thoroughly recommend the Purbani.

Im a regular there at purbani and been going there for over 20 years. I always get the king prawn butterfly, chicken tandoori and chicken bhuna. I would definitely recommend if you love variety selection of indian and bengali food.

Food horrible.The naan bread was burnt.The chicken in the curries was hard and tasted absolutely disgusting.The first time I ordered food from this place and definitely the last.

Never leave reviews but I thought I probably should. Ordered saag paneer, motor paneer and korma this evening. Everything tasted like it had hellish amounts of sugar and coconut in it and had no flavour other than that. Completely inedible which considering how much it cost was a real shame. Very disappointing, wouldn't order again.

I have tried and tested many take away services of Indian cuisine. This place is seriously good. Recommend the Dhansak, Korai or The street food biryani. The onion bhajis are excellent also. Highly recommended

My favourite takeaway - lamb madras is always so tender and delicious

We ordered 2 x starters, some poppadoms and sundries, 2 x curries, 1 x rice and a naan each. Wrong sundries arrived (refunded by deliveroo). Bahjis and Samosas were really good. My curry (lamb pasanda) was too thick and the lamb was bad quality. The rice and naan bread were quite small portions compared to what I’m used to. Everything was semi cold despite my partner picking up from around the corner

Great dhansak and balti. Bhindi bhaji is chewy / inedible at times unfortunately. Edit*** The Bhindi bhaji on last two visits wasn't stringy or chewy and they served one of the best dhansaks I've had in a while. Definitely the dish I think they do the best.

Me and my partner ordered butter chicken and it was just really bland, the butter chicken had no flavour in the sauce, the chicken was dry and the rice was overcooked. Overall, just disappointing. We’ve had butter chicken from loads of different places and this was easily the worst. The portion of butter chicken was good but the portion of everything else wasn’t great for the price. Wouldn’t recommend it to be honest. 85p for a single poppadom just seems madness to me. My usual local is 99p and I get several.

I ordered a delivery of Chicken tikka Masala from this restaurant. It was the worst curry ever. So salty I could not eat it. I am 73 years of age and cannot have salt. It put me off my meal and ended up in the bin. I will not order from the Purbani again..

If you ordered the Chicken Makhani dish from this shop know that you will receive the picture below. After going back to the restaurant as we thought this was received in error, we were told we did not know what chicken Makhani was and that this dish was exactly how it was meant to be. The owner was condescending, patronising and down right rude. I'd rather starve than go back to this place would not reccomend.

The best Indian takeaway we’ve ever had! Staff are so friendly and can’t do enough every time you go in. The railway curry reminds me of my Indian grandad’s homemade curry I had as a child.

Had this takeaway last year and was the best curry I have ever had, a little bit expensive being £20 for the for 1 person menu but it's a lot of food. Now ordered today service was good food was ok chicken was quite tough which was quite disappointing only one poppadum which is a bit stingy. But overall the potatoes were great rice great and chicken was tasty but just felt overcooked. Would recommend though was a decent curry.

Purbani was our regular Indian takeaway for the better part of the year we lived in Guildford. Since we moved away we've been desperately searching for another takeaway to fill the void left in our hearts, but to no avail. Whenever we're in that part of the country we make it a mission to stop by and pick up an order - it's seriously that good. The chicken tikka jalfrezi and the lamb roadside biryani are genuinely *incredible* and I couldn't recommend them more. Service with a smile doesn't hurt either!

Great Indian food, we have been struggling to find a good takeaway for a while and Purbani is delicious. Could do with throwing in a couple of free poppadoms and mint yoghurt for the price but other than that it's our new regular :)

The chicken dishes we had tonight were really delicious. The Manchurian Chicken and the Naga were full of flavour and the naans were soft and fluffy, not dense and doughy! Amazing customer service! Really good food.

Been eating curry's a while. 😃 Had one of the tastiest curries I've ever had. All dishes had thier own individual tastes, really delicious. With Purbani, if you have chicken dishes, order chicken TIKKA when possible as sometimes the plain chicken can be a little dry.

Although being a meat eater, knowing this place is the most lovely place to go to get good curry in Guildford with lovely hosts, I'm really getting to like the vegetable dishes. There's something about vegetable curry that makes a nice blend. Also much the same is true with the biriyani. Looking forward to trying the others too!

We're delighted to have Purbani as our local Indian - the food is excellent 99% of the time. They have a good range of dishes and you can get from very mild to very hot. In 10 years of going, we've had only one or two dishes that were lacking in spices. Everything we've had on the menu has been really tasty - except the Balti and regular Biryani which I found disappointing. I can highly recommend their Indian Street Food Mumbai Biryani - the Tarka dhal is delicious! We also love the Korai Methi Gosth, Xacuti and Korma (we add extra chilli to ours), Dansak, Pathia, Captain Naga, and Jalfrezi. Their Naan's are also yummy. We've always had good service inside the shop and from delivery drivers. My mouth is watering so I'm off to order some curry now!

I just ordered from deliveroo a meal from purbani it was honestly the worst Indian I've had the food had no taste the lamb was very chewy. Iam an Indian so I wasn't expecting great food but this was terrible if this is what they call Indian food then they shouldn't be cooking food for anybody iam so so dissapointed think twice before ordering from here

Oily bland food that was barely edible. Ordered takeaway through deliveroo and when the food arrived the bag was drenched in oil and the containers were dripping with oil. Would never order again. Muttar paneer should not be sweet. All dishes lacked salt, seasoning and flavour. Would not recommend this place at all.

Purbani is almost certainly the best Indian restaurant I have ever visited- the food is delicious, with hearty portions and incredible flavours. I would recommend the street food lamb biryani to anyone considering the restaurant- it's a little spicy, but the tarka dhal is buttery and delicious, and the chunks of tikka lamb are flavoursome and tender. The food is consistently ready on time, delicious, and a reasonable price. Every other takeaway my partner and I have tried in Guildford has paled in comparison with this restaurant; you won't be disappointed by this place.

Consistently serves up the best chicken tikka jalfrezi I've ever eaten! The food here is great quality, comes in great quantities, and is so tasty. My only sadness is that I don't think I'll find another Indian to top this one!

I've lived in Guildford for 20+ years and we have tried virtually every Indian takeaway in the area. I keep coming back to Purbani time after time for the following reasons: - Reasonable prices and good value for money - Friendly staff and decent service (although can be slow at peak times) - They can make food seriously spicy if you ask them to - Food is overall very good (perhaps not excellent, but close) - Curries are not greasy or super oily - Dedicated takeaway = no eat-in restaurant customers to compete with I would urge you to go and COLLECT IN PERSON since your food will be hotter, taste better and the resturant won't get shafted with massive fees from companies like Deliveroo/Uber Eats - keep these guys in business please!

Some context: I adore curry. Indian takeaways are my favourite type of food, and they are very dear to my heart. So imagine my surprise when I move to Guildford, decide to check out my local Indian, and am promptly served the best curry I can remember (and my partner was similarly enamored). Everything about the meal was lovely, and I will certainly be making this a regular treat!

I have been ordering from the purbani for years now and it never fails . The flavours are spot on and plenty of variety with the dishes . The staff and delivery drivers are very friendly and not forgetting the manager miah who’s such a lovely man .I would say in the last 6 months it’s got even better if that was even possible .

It's our 45th wedding anniversary and even with Covid restrictions we would still have stayed in and had a meal from Purbani. It's been the best Indian take away for years and we've always give them our patronage. If we'd ever had a bad meal we wouldn't have returned. Can't say better than that. 5 🌟

Ordered from Purbani on Saturday night. Busiest night of the week and during lockdown when everybody is staying in! Clearly under pressure but the young chap on the phone took time to repeat the order back to me. When we collected was all good and the food was terrific, not greasy like some, just really good food well cooked. Remember to ask for the discount when collecting. Would definitively recommend.

Service was very good but the food was luke warm even though I collected and live less than a mile away. Also food was disappointing this time. May have been an off day.

Horrible, I order my meal through their website at 19:15 and they arrive at 20:50. The guy by phone was rude and hand out when I called asking where was my order. I will never ever order there again. I heard nice things about this place but definitely I don’t not recommending this place. The food was good but the staff not. I understand that we are in difficult moments now but is when more nice need to be each other.

We were really looking forward to the food based on the amazing reviews, but we were left disappointed. The pricing is quite interesting. Being just a take away, the prices are quite high but then they offer a 15% discount if you spend over £20 which is hard not to unless you are eating for one. This maybe a marketing thing to attract you with a discount. The price after the discount is on the upper end of average. We decided to collect. Food was ready for collection at the time that they stated. Service was friendly. There are spaces close by on one of the side streets to park up and collect the take away. Food wise, the texture was ok. It looked ok. It was just very bland and no we have not lost our sense of taste because of covid. We love Indian. This place just did not live up to the hype of the reviews. Sadly, we will have to try somewhere different next time.

Hands down the best Indian food in Guildford. Haven’t been for a while whilst we checked out most of the other curry houses but nothing comes close.

I regularly have takeaway from Purbani and have done since I first moved to the area about thirteen years ago, when it was recommended to me by my housemate. They are consistently good, and I would say it is some of the best Indian food I have ever had. I have tried many of their curries including chicken, lamb and vegetarian ones and they have all been excellent. Their vegetable side dishes are also great.

After returning to Guildford after 3 years living in Asia, being a massive fan of Pakistani food and having a partner from Glasgow, which apparently makes you an expert on this, I can honestly say this is the best Pakistani food in Guildford! It’s super fresh, the flavours between each dish are noticeably different, it’s not at all greasy and above all it’s absolutely delicious. I’d recommend the Saag Paneer and the Lamb Xacuti.

Wow...been getting our curry from Purbani for years as always reliably good and great service. Tonight’s has to be written about as it was incredible!!! Has to be up there with the best curry’s ever had. Fresh, distinct flavours with plenty of meat, vegetables and sauce.Hats off to our regular haunt as they well and truly took it to another level tonight....

Food is good, but the prices are on the expensive side and the customer service/organisation is terrible. Not for the first time we ordered a takeaway and went to collect only to find they hadn't even started cooking it. Used to be great, but has gone down hill in the last few years.

So ordered a Lamb Dupiaza and was duly charged a whopping £8.15. So, having had this dish at many Indian restaurants, it is THE best dish ever, BUT, this is what I was given (see photo) the website states.. Cooked with fried onion, green pepper, fresh herbs and coriander, in fairly thick sauce. It tasted awful, it was not worth the money. Shame ...

Checked a few reviews here before ordering for takeaway Friday night. Food arrived within 25 minutes and I was impressed. Great flavours - we ordered the tandoori mixed grill, chicken swadi, tarka daal, and one garlic nan and a paratha. The breads were so hot and fresh and really light. Would defo order here again - looking forward to trying more from the menu.

We ordered a few starters and a main after Guildford Spice rejected our order through Deliveroo. The Purbani meal that arrived was very tasty. The Vegetable Jalfrezi was a bit underwhelming but vegetable curries are tricky if by 'vegetable curry' they mean a random collection of veg in a curry sauce. I'd rather have a cauliflower and potato curry or something more specific. Anyway, it was a really good takeaway and came within plenty of time and was still nice and hot. I'd recommend trying them out.

Starter of onion bhaji and chicken tikka ok mint Ratia bit watery so lacked flavour . Plenty of salad. Main chicken tikka koria with potatoe side very disappointing. Tasted of smoked paprika and no depth of flavour .potatoe side just taste of tomato. Sorry had lots better .sadly not in Guildford as most Indian food outlets in Guildford very shabby

In my opinion Purbani serves the best Indian food in guildford I have ordered from them many times over the years I’ve even impressed my extremely fussy mother with there food which is very impressive.

I ordered a chicken korma, pilau rice and peshwari naan bread. Not the most adventurous I know! They korma sauce was absolutely delicious and the chicken had a good firm texture not like some of the watery soft meat you get from a lot of takeaways. The naan was also excellent

I was served by i think was the owner (mia) who was more interested in taking phone orders and chatting away (thats hw i got his name) and kept me waiting for 10 min. It wasnt that busy but i dont need him talking to me rudely. When i did order he said 20 mins but it was 35 min before i got my food which wasnt that great, It was too bland.

There is a good range of choice, with all dishes being well described as to spiciness and hot-ness. We have never been disappointed in anything we have chosen. Food is always ready when they say it will be - usually it takes about 20 minutes.

Pollo Jalfrezi india es mi plato favorito de todos los tiempos. Pedí una desde aquí hace dos semanas y fue perfecto. . . . . . Agradable y picante sabor y un completo fuera realmente buena porción! Estaba mucho mejor que la que tuve de (que es mucho Maloncho más caro! ). La señora tenía un Rogan y ella también estaba muy impresionado. Sin duda ordenar desde aquí.

Had a few take always from here and the food is normally pretty good. NOT this time though, been over 6 months since we got food from here and the food was terrible. The chicken was dry as in VERY dry. The mint yogurt that used to be fantastic tasted watered down and the samosas that used to blow me away were no where near how good they were. Purbani if you read this pleeeeease sort it out as you were the best Indian take away and now probably wouldn't come back.

I rang for a takeaway, the order was taken but the guy hung up before getting my name, telling me how long it would be, telling me the price and without saying goodbye. So I rang back to get this information and they made me feel like an idiot. It was like getting blood out of a stone so I gave up trying and decided it was my turn to hang up on him.

My friend introduced me to this restaurant last year and I was impressed by theirselection of curry dishes. A bit pricey but then it was Guildford. Poppadums reallycooked to perfection.
