Giggling Squid in Guildford

Had a lovely experience here taking my Grandma for her birthday and we had the lovely Koy serve us who checked in and was so sweet! Food was lovely left so full and restaurant so pretty

We had a really lovely waitress called Koy, who was very attentive and friendly.

We had a lovely meal here, the location is really nice especially in the sun, outside. Calum was our server and he was very helpful, checked everything was fine and made the experience great!

Had such a lovely meal, food was all great and Nis and Sofin were so accommodating especially as it was a birthday meal, even giving a free dessert.

I did try their new lunch dishes today , Flat noodle grilled mooDang with dumplings 🥟 which is really delicious the dish itself is dried with grilled mooDang pork with sweet flavour , the noodle is stir fried with been sprouts and Chinese cabbage which give a nice crunchy texture with dumplings on the side to go with it’s also had a spicy and crunch from the chilli oil flake and fried garlic . Overall this dish is my favourite because of all the combinations and flavours, it’s worth a try and it’s worth the money 👍🏻😋 my next meal will be the slow cooked beef noodle soup and there’s many new dishes to try 😋

I had a mango passion smoothie which is my favourite drink, however I recommend the virgin cocktail they are quite nice. I heard a new lunch menu is being launched, I can't wait to come back. Atmosphere was peaceful and quite, since I came Monday night. They have free wifi now, so I came with my laptop to work on it for a bit. I had a nice and productive evening. Great food, good service from Alex and a pleasant afternoon lunch at giggling squid. We were left to have a pleasuring talk and the waiter himself was very accommodating and polite.

Went with a few friends on a Saturday afternoon, lunch set was really great and tasty! Service was really good and the staff were really friendly!

My partner and I have eaten here multiple times and really enjoyed it but this time was unbelievably disappointing. We ordered tapas sets at lunchtime. The meat in all of our dishes was horribly low quality - the pork dumplings looked like they were made with offcuts and the chicken in the curry tasted cheap and was chewy. The duck also tasted cheap and low quality - just really gamey and chewy. I really wished I had complained at the time because it wasnt cheap and we really really did not enjoy it. Also feel pretty terrible an hour later. Such a shame because the food used to be delicious every time

Small portions and a bit too expensive! Good/average food.

The food in the restaurant is normally good but our takeaway was extremely disappointing. I am not sure how long it had been sitting there but the rice was stodgy and the stickhy chicken and chicken wings were virtually inedible. We had one portion of confit duck which was acceptable but nothing more! The crumb on the salt and pepper squid was soggy! Not a good experience that we won't be repeating

I went for a luch with my husband. We ordered the spring rolls, the prawn crackers as starters, and sticky chichen and masaman with coconut rice. Everything was amazing but highly recommend the chicken masaman with coconut rice. Taste good and presentation is 10. Server Nis was so sweet, she kept on playing with my son and she made sure nothing was around him since he was 2 months old and keeps on grabbing stuff. Really sweet and friendly service

We sat outside as it warmer , we had SAmui Colada is the best cocktail are my favourite, along with fisherman platter with soft shell crab and both squid , Our mains was marinated steak and crispy slow cooked beef is so tender and succulent the flavour of the sauce is complement the meat very well , try it with Thai fresh salad with golden berries and crunchiness , mild flavour of Thai jicama and bamboo shoots mixed with pumpkin seed and ginger bring out the freshness and flavoursome sauce go very well with rice and steak dish , Services from Abi and saphia is spot on .

The Thai green curry is poor, portion, meagre and straggly meat. Truth hurts. I figure they owe me the forty quid now

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit, deco lovely. Hadn't realised it was a chain. Staff were super. Food was excellent, child friendly too. My wee nephew loved his fried rice and Roti and coloring pencils and activity sheet were very much enjoyed. Didn't so much enjoy the 2 icecreams we ordered. In particular we found the Baileys dessert x two was a big disappointment and overpriced. Surprised by some of comments, all starters and mains were fab!

Extremely disappointed. We visited in September and had a great meal so having come over to see my daughter at uni I wanted to treat her and 2 of her friends to a meal out. I ordered the Thai Melting Beef. When it came out I was shocked to see it seemed to be on the bone. Then I realised it wasn’t a bone it was like a long tube of sinew with literal tubes at the end. I’ve never complained before but when the lovely waitress asked if all was ok I did on this occasion. She called the manager who told me ‘all their food was edible’ and ‘if she replaced it it would be exactly the same’ I was truly horrified by the disgusting meal plus her attitude. She did offer me a different meal but as we had waited some time I didn’t want one and the others were half way through theirs . I kept the dish and ate the rice and veg in it. Luckily my meal was taken off the bill but unfortunately it ruined what should have been a lovely evening. My daughter and friends said their dishes were fine so perhaps it was a one off although it didn’t sound like it if ‘it would be the same ‘ if I reordered it. Perhaps the description should be changed to tough sinew and tubes if that is the case. I totally understand these things may happen (although not sure how the chef missed it) but the manager we all agreed was rude. One of my guests said it looked like I’d been served up an organ. My only regret is I didn’t take a picture to post here. I will never return to this venue. Very disappointing.

Warm and friendly team with good service offered and pretty good value. Food is typical of the chain. Have been in buzzier, cozier branches (Farnham is a favorite) but OK for a mid week meet up. Lots of competition in Guildford Town Centre.

Absolutely delish food! Especially crispy squid bits, papaya salad, paneang curry and chilli & basil stir fry. And to finish we had sorbets which were light and flavourful. Abigail and Nis gave us a spot-on service! Nis was so kind and gave us recommendations. She took care of our long table pretty well!

Such a great experience while dinning in here. Also such a great staff especially Nisrin. Went above and beyond to make sure I’ve a great time.

Pork belly = violent vomiting Service was good otherwise

Not as good as it used to be. The starters are still delicious and probably the best available in Guildford especially the Zingy Samuai King Prawns. On our most recent visit however the spicy prawn crackers were utterly flavourless, couldn’t quite work out if they had changed the brand / supplier, or they were overcooked in oil that had seen better days. The Hake curry sauce was disappointing, it was edible but it really lacked the kind of punch of Thai herbs and spices you would hope to find and left me underwhelmed, mild dishes should still pack a punch flavour wise and this fell a little short, this dish used to be better. I’ve been eating at the giggling squid for a number of years but sadly feel that the wine list has shrank, lacks imagination and no longer offers a glass or bottle of anything inspiring that I want to drink with my spicy food. All in all I won’t be in a rush to return, which is a real shame as I’ve enjoyed many delicious dishes there over the years.

Nice venue. But the food is average and service could be better

Abi was absolutely incredible, she was so attentive, making sure we had everything as soon as possible, and the food was delicious.

The good - The service was good, friendly, attentive but not intrusive and solved some problems quickly. The bad - For the best part of £100 the food was terrible. If you want good Thai food go elsewhere. We ordered a Chang, which came warm, but the waiter swapped this quickly for a cold one so full marks here. Starter - Street Food Sharing platter - This was overly greasy and all tasted of oil which was a shame. Marinated Steak & Crispy Slow Cooked Beef - Low quality steak entirely made of sinew. Sticky Chicken and a portion of Pak Choi and Tenderstem- Arrived stone cold. We raised this with the waiter, who took it back to the kitchen. 5 minutes later, they returned to the table proclaiming "straight from the Wok", with bowls that were too hot for them to touch and some very soggy microwaved food. The Chicken included the small piece of napkin that fell into it when it was first delivered. The chicken had managed to avoid the microwave blast and had achieved lukewarm chewy status. At this point we called it a night and left. All in all, we were looking forward to a bit of a treat and for the sum of £100 the only tasty/edible bits were the rice and pork skewers the rest will be consigned to the rubbish. Very disappointing and we definitely won't be revisiting it.

My favourite restaurant. If you love your food full of flavours look no further. This restaurant looks big from the outside but it’s an old building with small narrow rooms so space is limited I recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment. I have tried all the starters but still struggle picking from the menu because it is so delicious, I think the pork or the prawns are my favourite two starters, the prawns are so tasty they come with a dipping sauce but honestly they are so great you don’t need it! The beef masasaman curry was my choice this time and the beef was very very tender. We were a table of six on a very busy night and the service was excellent.

Really lovely ambience and the staff couldn’t have been nicer or more attentive (they all get 5 stars!). The starters were out of this world!! We had one bite salmon on betel leaves, and some kind of deep fried mushroom. The mains were both a little disappointing. I had the sticky chicken, and honestly it was just chewy sticky and sweet- no real flavour. All in all a reasonable meal but nothing to rave about (except the starters and the staff)

We come to Guildford to catch up with friends every year for local drinks and lunch at the Giggling Squid. It never fails to disappoint, ambience is great, food delicious and service excellent. This year our waitress was Neave and she was brilliant, engaged with customers, witty and smilely; so nice to get good, welcoming, service, nowadays.

Asked for an extra hot Panang and I got one! I'll certainly be going back for more.

Fantastic Thai food - better than other surrounding thai restaurants. However the decor, furniture and lighting lets it down a little. Well worth a visit though if you don't mind this.

My husband and I had a simply delicious lunch yesterday at the Giggling Squid in Guildford, we had a mixture of Tapas style starters all of which were delicious, the service was very good, the decor was lovely as was the music, will definitely be returning for more yummy food!

The sharing dish was just absolutely awful, probably microwaved…small soggy portions of yuk! We went here today as we had just been to another branch in Gun Wharf quays recently which was really really classy. Don’t go to this Guildford branch just awful.

Great place to either get a little bite or have a full dinner. Really lovely staff and atmosphere and well organised/ kept. Would 100% recommend and come back!

I came here for a meal with my parents. It was lovely food and great service. However as someone with a food intolerance and my father had has an allergy I was not impressed with having to use my phone to read the allergen menu. If my father had been here without me he would have struggled without a physical allergen menu. I like to come to dinner and leave my phone away. I would think it's a better dining experience to have the allergens in the menu, or a hard copy to hand. QR usage is affecting my choice in dining in the future.

Go to the Thai Terrace.... If you want atmosphere,quality and service... The food here is unsophisticated and naff. The spices taste raw and uncooked.. I have been to Thailand many times... I know the real standard...

Early Sunday evening... Waited 20 mins for initial drinks After starters..waited 40 mins for mains... Even waited over 10 mins when requested bill.. You are obviously second to delivery meals... The food was crude, uncooked spices and not subtle.. Never again... Thai Terrace is the place to go!! I have visited and lived in Thailand many times.

Beautiful food but a tad pricey

Regrettably, the green Thai beef curry was terrible. The bonus was the dish only had four small pieces of overcooked, tasteless bits of beef, with what felt like last evenings vegetable curry. The staff can't be faulted. Venue clean with view clients.

Sadly, this was our second and last visit to Giggling. Usually we go to another Thai restaurant (TT) but it's closed on Sundays. Food was less than average. Ordered Thai Green Curry with beef (we only had literally 4 bits of overcooked meat) and lunch thai tapas set. Sadly tasteless.

Abbey let us in last minute for a fantastic meal on a Monday night. Straight to the point delicious food. Would like to thank the chef!

We have been to the Giggling Squid in Guildford and Bristol and have never been disappointed. We had a warm welcome and drinks orders were taken swiftly. With a mixed bag of keen carnivores, veggie and vegan, there was an excellent choice of dishes. The dishes were brought in a little more staggered than is ideal but that didn’t take away from our enjoyment of the food. Food here is always so well presented. Everyone enjoyed their dish immensely. Portions are generous; we are usually pudding people but only two of us could manage one. Will definitely be returning.

We ordered as first timers hoping for a good experience that could turn us into regulars. Was very surprised that our red chicken curry was very heavy on cornflour, so much so that we could barely taste it. Considering the price point of this place, that’s unforgivable. Felt ripped off, won’t be returning and recommend avoiding. Other great options nearby.

Had a lovely lunch there last weekend. Ordered salt and pepper set. The squad was very delicious, crispy outside and soft inside. Nice! Chicken wings were not as good as I expected. Thai tea was a bit sweet for me, but you might like it. Overall I’d like to go back and try more. Also love the environment and friendly staff. £20 is a reasonable price for a nice lunch.

We booked this place for our daughter's graduation and it was spot on!!!! Very much recommend x

£15 lunch set 🇹🇭 Delicious Thai food, each lunch set comes with 4 small dishes! 👍🏻 I ordered the scrummy set which included spring rolls, siu mai, chicken red curry and rice 😋 We also got the feasting set (with duck) and the giggling set (with chicken green curry) 💖

Nice food and very polite staff

Not sure why Giggling squid is not #1 in Guildford so hopefully this helps them on the way to the position we felt they deserved. Food was great, the best we have had on this trip so far - salt and pepper squid , drunken noodles, kids meals, honey duck platter meal. Waitresses were charming. Nothing more we could want for. So good we felt compelled to use sharethemeal and pay it forward !

Good food, very helpful staff, enjoyed our meal and will visit again.

We had an excellent dinner and a wonderful service. When they found out we were celebrating our 52 anniversary they offered us champagne and the dessert was on the house presented on a plate with a decorative writing “Happy Anniversary “

Super food friendly staff meet old friends for first time in 15yrs from new Zealand 🇳🇿

Booked this fabulous place as it’s my favourite for our wedding anniversary. Things started off well, with the starters being delicious as always but Unfortunately upon my first mouthful of my main dish, I came across what I thought was a piece of bone…..Not even close to what I pulled out of my mouth! Horrified to find it was a 1 inch piece of wire in my Chubby pork cheek main which was swiftly returned to the the waiter, who in turn took it too a senior member of staff for her to photograph and log. Staff were very apologetic and offered to re-do the dish or change it for something else but to be honest I wasn’t hungry any more. They did waive our bill for what we had already and we left very disappointed. Not planning on going back anytime soon 😢

I enjoyed my dinner in this restaurant. Although most of the menu were modifications of the original Thai cuisine (no classic Tom Yam soup on sight?), loved what they served nonetheless. The staff were very nice and friendly, the location were unique in the alley of the city center.

Salt&pepper squid: very big, crispy, soft Shrimp pad thai: usual pad thai taste, very well blended sauce. Also includes fried tofu which was nommmm Lychee angel: pretty to look at and tasty! Tastes like lychee mogu mogu with a bit of sparkles added to it. Lychee lovers will like it Lovely atmosphere and very nice staff!

The food is absolutely delicious, but we also had the friendliest service, and it was a real joy to sit outside on a warm evening. It's definitely on the pricier side of Thai food, but such a nice treat.

We have become big fans of the Wimbledon branch and visited over 20 times and everything is always top notch in respect of food and service. 27th April at 4.30 we visited the Guildford branch. It wasn’t that busy at that time of day but our food took an unusually long time to come out which I thought was strange when Wimbledon is always unusually quick!! When were eventually served all 3 meals were stone cold. We made the decision not to raise it there and then as out 5 year old son was very hungry and couldn’t wait any longer for his food and we wanted to eat with him. Very disappointed and a complete waste of money. The food must had been prepared in good time and then just left a long time before serving given we waited about 45 minutes.

Giggling squid is still one of the best Thai style chain restaurants in the UK. The food on our visit was good with authentic flavours. The recipes used here are spot on, really well balanced and flavourful, although perhaps a little sweet over spice clearly aimed at the UK market. Service was okay but not particularly engaging or passionate. The restaurant is fairly small but comfortable and well appointed, and is in a good location close to several car parks. Food prices were reasonable compared to others, although everything has gone up everywhere so it's certainly not cheap, but still well worth a visit. Good luck!

My first time visiting last week. The food was better than I expected and reasonably priced too. We had the mixed platter for 3 Then papaya salad- which had the right amount of crunch and sourness. The duck confit A red chicken curry Pad Thai And the steak. All was really flavoursome and tasty. Would definitely go back

It’s a lovely area and this place defiantly looks the part and is a nice cosy Thai spot. Unfortunately the food was very bland and lacked flavour, I had plenty of dishes however none of them stood out as being very nice.

A good meal, very spicy but enjoyable. Service excellent.
