Hanki in Guildford

I can't say that this place has a super atmospheric atmosphere, but they definitely make very tasty poke bowls with salmon. The portion is large, not overloaded with rice and a lot of tasty salmon. This is the first dish that I tried here and I definitely want to come back to try something else.

Dined there on Saturday 28/09/2024,Food was not bad however I was quite disappointed with chicken bimbibap which was served with a completely dried and over fried egg on top and food was not hot when served but rather warm.only one person serving and in till hence service was not great and slow.The grilled eel was nice and the seafood pancake was great.

Fantastic spicy pork bulgogi and a casual, bright atmosphere. Great for lunch with friends or by oneself.

Tried this out after a terrible experience elsewhere nearby. One of the best Koreans we’ve ever had!! The spicy pork bulgogi and spicy fried chicken are out of this world. Unmissable in Guildford!

Chose the wrong Bibimbap sauce for my friend who wanted chilli instead of soy sauce. Asked if we could swap it, the answer was surprisingly NO. The lady insisted that we pay for the extra sauce. Yeah they saved maybe 5p on the soy sauce I wrongly chose and earned my extra 20p? But now they’ve lost a couple of returning customers (or more). Yes it’s surely reasonable not to swap it but just uncompassionate. Lady didn’t look the happiest nor the friendliest from the beginning either; apparently she’s not having a good day 🤷🏻

⭐️Tteokbokki Less spicy. Korean street food is usually very spicy. So after eating it before, it was so spicy that I was afraid that I would never buy it again. But when I heard from a friend who had eaten it and said it wasn’t spicy, I was scared to give it a try. It’s really spicy or not. It’s delicious. ⭐️ Kimchi Jji gae (Spicy soup) Although the portions of everything are small, everyone is satisfied with the same portion. The kimchi soup tastes so authentic. Recommended👍🏻 ⭐️Half & Half Chicken My favorite dish in this restaurant is the fried chicken, Honey Soya! ⭐️ Ja Jang Myun This is one of the best fried noodles I have ever tasted in Guildford!

Really great place for Korean food. The food was tasty, fresh and well presented. And the staff were very friendly. We loved the honey soya boneless fried chicken - it had a great flavour and texture and the meat was very tender and juicy. We also loved the kimchi pancakes. The salmon teriyaki was also very good, the salmon was tender and good quality. We will definitely come back here when visiting Guildford again and would recommend this place to anyone

The food is absolutely delicious. I recommend the Bibimbap and the fried chicken (honey and spicy). The place is very clean, after each diner they clean the tables (unlike other local restaurants). Affordable prices. They sell Korean beer and soju. I don't give them 5 stars because there is no bathroom and it is NOT pet friendly. Although you can sit outside with your dog (in England this is only possible 3 months a year).

So some things have changed since my last review. The place has improved and the food is better than ever. They finally added the non fish version of the corn stick which is very welcomed and the quality of the food is great and delicious. Still quite expensive but more in line with similar restaurants. Highly recommend the poke bowls. Old review: Very expensive but I don't mind it every so often since it is pretty good. The biggest shame is how expensive the wings are and the hygiene rating but food is ok.

Hidden place in Guildford. Portions are considerably big, the ingredients and quality of the food is very fresh and delicious. Good price. Good service. I will definitely be back !! The food here is amazing.

What a lunch we had. Authentic delicious Korean food. We need Hanki all around the country, please. :D Visited the place since we were in the area, and the reviews were very promising. Even though it is located in a narrow street just off the high street, it was all full. Luckily, we did get a seat after a short wait. The staff were very greeting and attentive. Didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive either. We had rice cake, spicy pork on rice, beef gimbap and half-half fried chicken (sweet chilli and sweet soy). The portions were very generous. The two of us could only handle half of everything and got the rest to take with us. Chicken was the best I've ever had. Mouthwatering coating and soft and juicy inside. Spicy pork was full of flavour, very tender, and easy for me to eat even though I usually can't tolerate spicy food. Gimbap had a very good balance of beef, sweet fried eggs, and veggies. Did feel like I needed some soy sauce to dip it in, though, and once asked, the staff were happy to provide some in no time. Lastly, rice cake was spicy as well but not overly spicy. Had a pleasant flavour of gochujang going through the sauce, which is always a perfect flavour for rice cake. The place has no toilets, and there is a good explanation for it (being a takeaway place only and starting business during the pandemic). I do hope they will manage to extend the space, get more seating areas, and accommodate customers with bathroom facilities. Until then, please start providing us with some citrusy wet wipes, especially when ordering fried chicken. It is finger lickingly tasty, but I still would love to clean/wash my hands after enjoying the chicken. :)

Always a lovely spot for a quick bite, food is very consistent and tastes amazing. Definitely recommend for anyone passing by on the high street or having a lazy day at home.

The BEST Korean of all Surrey! We are so lucky to have you! And please do not close! Quick service, delicious food, well packed always with cutlery and plenty of tissues, think I’ve ordered the entire menu by now! Haven’t eaten in yet but by the looks of it it’s busy every time we go past. Good portion sizes and everything tastes amazing. The juxtaposition to Kerrera, the bar down the road, makes this the perfect combo. I’d recommend take-away and having it with K beers al fresco! My favourites: kimchi pork soup and salmon poke bowl! Finally, the nice touch: the staff is always greeting us with a lovely smile on their face!

I am really disappointed with this restaurant, the dish I ordered was just impossible to eat: too spicy and the rice was really swimming in juice. So I didn't even eat this dish. Too bad this restaurant doesn't cater to people who aren't used to spicy foods, even if you tell the waitress "no spicy please" Too bad!!!!

Such a charming little place. It’s obvious a lot of thought and care went into this place and it shows. Staff are friendly and food is amazing. Any issues or wait times are communicated before having to ask, and considering how busy they are everything runs really smoothly. Really a great little restaurant, and the prices are really good compared to other places. I’ll definitely be visiting many more times.

OK, lets get the positives out of the way. Clean space inside with seating for about a dozen people. Fridges with soft drinks and alcohol. Busy counter space. Welcoming service from server. Good first impressions. Ordered salmon teriyaki/rice and fried chicken with edamame as an extra, plus canned pop. Arrived within 10 minutes. All of it was delicious and fresh, the standard kfc had a delicious crispy coating that wasn't greasy and the chicken was moist inside. Teriyaki was tasty throughout and the edamame pods were devoured very quickly. Worth going back for, food-wise Now to the negative - and it's a big one really. Considering there were at least 10-12 customers when we arrived (four tables, all eating and drinking Hanki food), I was surprised to learn halfway through our meal (and needing a pee) that there are no toilets. I was sent to the council loos about 2-3 minutes walk away. But of course, they were shut at 6pm on a Saturday. So I had to sweettalk the lovely beer shop two doors down to use their loos instead. This is NOT fair on the neighbouring business (who informed me that "we get this quite a lot"), nor is it fair to paying guests. Had Hanki informed us that there were no onsite toilets, we would have still ordered but we could have gone to the loo, before being seated. Regulations differ from council to council, I get that, but the rule-of-thumb law is if you're seating more than 10 in a cafe environment for the consumption of your food, you ought to provide toilets for your sit-in customers, especially if selling drinks. Or at least warn them before sitting inside (or outside) - it's good manners. I can't imagine where the neighbouring older (and (infant) customers went to the loo - they were in there a lot longer than we were. The tip of the day is: Yes, enjoy the food but be aware of the loo situation and take your order out instead. A few nearby bars will let you eat food brought in but check with the bar first. All of which caused me to forget to take a picture of the admittedly lovely food. So it's the drinks instead. Pear and peach. Very nice.

Delicious food with prompt service, food is ordered at the till for both eat in and takeout. The jajangmyeon was comforting and flavoursome.

I come to this place quite often, and the food here is very authentic and the price is quite friendly. The Sul Lung Tang is especially amazing and the honey soy fried chicken is also worth trying.

Amazing fried chicken! Plain was my favourite, but all of the options were great. I also highly recommend the kimchi pancakes, so good, and not that common. Price was decent. Also, the shop is very small, so it can feel cozy or cramped, depending on the situation.

Delicious fresh food. The Salmon Teriyaki I had came with a VERY generous amount of Salmon in it (no complaints) which was cooked to perfection. Topped with some asparagus and bell peppers which were also fresh and perfectly prepared/ cooked. Will defo be back.

Simple Korean food at reasonable prices. Order at the counter and food is served to your table. The fried chicken was amazing and is the speciality of the restaurant. The other dishes including the seafood pancake were also nice, but the star of the show was definitely the fried chicken. They have a limited drinks list and close very early, so get there before 9pm which is the last order!! Well worth a visit and value for money!

Ordered take out food, while drinking at the neighbouring Kerrera craft beer bar. Food was excellent, very tasty, prepared quickly, and service was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

A small snack bar with a few tables for indoor dining. Since I had little experience with Korean cuisine, I asked the employee behind the counter for advice - but he was obviously overwhelmed. So I ordered the Korean chicken two ways along with kimchi and rice, which turned out to be a bit of a mistake. Despite the marinades, the thick batter tasted pungently greasy and the two side dishes tasted bland. Not a good calling card for the supposedly healthy cuisine that is served there. It's enough to saturate you; it is not a pleasure.

The food tastes very good 👍 I ordered Sushi and Soup with rice and beef. the portion is large, very cost effective and the price is reasonable. room for improvement: Always very full during the lunch time at weekend, could have arranged better for those ppl don't mind to wait. food serving in a good time not too long. however if the server could be a little bit more smiling would be great.

Small quiet shop with a nice atmosphere. Food was good, my friend had a prawn katsu udon which was very nice. I had the beef bibimbap this time round, it was nice but would have been better if they used the traditional dolsot for the crispy rice at the bottom and the egg yolk was well done not runny. The previous time I had the pork and kimchi stew which was very nice, and the fried chicken is super nice, very crispy and covered in delicious sauces

Been going here for over a year and the only complaint I have is the price. For reference, it was £7.90 for chicken katsu curry around a year ago but now it's £9.90. To be fair, it's still incredibly enjoyable and tasty but I hope there isn't another price hike soon. March 2024 update: sadly prices have gone up again but I respect them for keeping the same portion sizes and being generous with food (at least with my usual) so I can't complain. Still highly recommend.

Genuinely nice and delicious food. We were the frequent and happy customers but never dine at the restaurant. The restaurant was always full partly due to the smaller seating area and partly due to its popularity. The grilled eel, honey soya fried chicken and prawn dumplings were all super yummy. The portion sizes were generous too.

Great Korean food, we’re going for a lunch every week and can’t get tired of it – it’s very good and portions are pretty reasonable.

The pictures are so good but the food is not as nice as we expected and it is put on paper plates and bowls. The portions were small. The fried chicken was over-fried therefore a bit hard and dry. Three of us were offered a two-seat table, and one of us needed to sit on an extra chair in the aisle where he blocked the flow of people walking around. And we were not eating comfortably.

It was so delicious that I went two days in a row. The stir-fried pork was so hot and the meat was so tender that I really enjoyed it. I wanted something spicy, but it was even better because it was cooked spicy with red pepper powder. It's not too sweet. It was the most delicious stir-fried pork I've ever had. It’s ironic that Korean restaurants in the UK taste better than those in Korea ^^ At first, a handsome bachelor took our order and started preparing the food right away. I told him that he was good at cooking even though he was young, and he said that his parents were upstairs cooking it themselves^^ When my husband and I heard that, we laughed awkwardly at each other. I thought other food would be delicious as well, so I packed some bulgogi gimbap and ate it at the hotel, and it was delicious as well. The life of kimbap is the quality of the rice, and it was so sticky and delicious^^ I guess he probably opened a restaurant in Korea because he knows the basics of Korean food well. I was shocked when my travel plans were canceled due to the sudden cancellation of my flight to Valencia at the airport, and I came to this place without a plan when my trip, which should have been fun, was full of stress. However, thanks to the friendly hotel and delicious Korean food, I was able to regain my mood to some extent. It was so delicious that I went back on the second day and tried to tell him that I had enjoyed it and wish him prosperity, but I couldn't see the handsome bachelor because he was busy. Anyway, I was grateful to be able to eat delicious food like a rain during a drought. I hope Hanki, which serves such delicious Korean food, becomes widely known to British and foreigners. ^^

Ordered online and collected in person on two occasions so far. Good food with generous portions and variety of choices, reasonable prices, friendly and efficient service. The place seems a bit cramped for groups of +4. But it was packed on both of my visits with a generally younger patrons. I’d happily order and collect again as I always devour Korean food like a damn pig and wouldn’t want to do that in public anyways!!

This is a place I often go to when I miss Korean food. In particular, spicy soy sauce chicken, stir-fried pork, kimchi stew, curry, and beef bulgogi are highly recommended.

Little bit of a long review, I found this restaurant when I started university I was so excited to finally find a place that did genuine Korean food, me and my best friend friend always FaceTime whenever I eat here so we can eat together because she’s always so excited to see me enjoying food from her culture, I cannot wait to bring her here when she comes back! it’s definitely worth the 30 minute walk from campus. The food is genuinely amazing, the honey soy chicken is just perfect, the rice is always so fluffy, the kimbap is never soggy, I highly recommend the miso soup too! The music is a bonus, everytime I go there’s always at least one of my favourite songs playing and the atmosphere is very calming, it may be small but it is definitely worth it and the portions are HUGE, this kimbap was enough for 2. Also the staff work really hard and are super helpful and kind he didn’t even laugh at my butchered pronunciation of the yangnyeom chicken so thanks for that. :))

Great Korean food made by Koreans.

So delicious! A new favourite for Korean / Japanese food, and we’ve tried many. Teriyaki Salmon and the Sweet Chilli chicken were incredible and portions are generous. Can’t wait to try more of their dishes!

Rest of the food is good. When these guys are busy service would be slow. Understandable. Small establishment with only a few small basic tables. Could do with more staff. Be patient and you'll be rewarded.

Amazing food! The main reason I love this place is the atmosphere and the really kind staff.

Normally we pop over to New Malden for our Korean treats but yesterday evening we went to meet JoJo at GLive. We needed something to eat. Ah Hanki - but will it reach New Malden standards? Wow. Totally exceeded! The Yang Nyum was exceptional. Crispy and just right amount of hint. Salmon Poke and Kastu Chicken were devoured. Well worth a revisit. Hidden off a passageway from Guildford High Street but well worth searching. Added bonus - takes card so you don't have to bring a load of cash with you. But the food is so tasty that you might need a bigger credit card!

Very nice Korean restaurant in Guildford. We arrived there around 2pm and not very busy at that moment, we chose to sitting in outside cause the weather was very nice. We order salmon avocado poke bowl 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Taste very delicious and refreshing. The salmons are very fresh and delicious, mixing with the hot mayo sauce and it is perfect with the poke bowl! Very recommended for everyone. Spicy and soy sauce fried chicken (regular size) 🌟🌟🌟🌟 It is enough for 2 people to eat and taste amazing 😻 we love it and it is quite spicy 🌶️ if you love spicy food you will like it very much but if you can’t eat spicy you can choose sweet & sour or other favours and they are still good too. Seafood soups with tofu (with rice)🌟🌟🌟 Not many seafoods inside, basically you can see many tofu inside the soup and with some kimchi inside. A bit spicy but it is totally fine and delicious. All items with a reasonable price range and really recommend it! Definitely will come visit again.

Very decent place, nothing outstanding in terms of the food. The service was pretty quick given what we ordered, only had to wait around 10-15 mins. Would recommend the Korean Style Fried Chicken. However I wouldn't recommend the 'spicy soy' flavour. It is way too hot! Stick with Sweet Soy or Sweet Chilli. I wish the portion sizes with the sides were much bigger though. The egg rice is twice the value of the steamed rice but it is also twice the size in portion so it is worth it to get the egg rice. Also the seating is not the best in the restaurant, quite a small quiet restaurant.

Ordered a poke and bibimbab, both were tasty and portions were good. Lots of toppings and overall healthy foods. A little pricey but worth it if you're looking for a healthy dish. Vibe was typical korean place, perhaps better as a takeaway than a restaurant.

Everything served with disposable stuff which may not be so good for the environment. Nonetheless, I still would recommend to try specially their poke bowls and bibimbaps! Got really disappointed after trying ATTO (the other supposedly “Korean” BBQ place in Guildford). Decided to give this place a go. Happy to inform you that I have finally found some authentic Korean food in Guildford! Had 떡볶이 (rice cake), 참치김밥 (tuna gimbap), and 제육볶음 (spicy pork rice) which all tasted great. Definitely will come back to try out other dishes! It’s a cute little store. Doesn’t have many seats nor many staffs so may have to wait a little for them to take your order. But the food came came out in like 10 min.
