Rapscallions in Portsmouth

I must remember never to go back to this place again. We’ve been before and had an enjoyable experience, but the last few times have been dreadful. We’ve walked in and sat at a vacant table, only to be shepherded back to the door rudely. Then the host then led us back to the same table. Very unnecessary. On our latest visit I ordered a Pina Colada. When it arrived I had a couple of sips and really didn’t like it. It was not creamy at all and just taste of really sweet syrup. I took it back, she offered to remake, but I didn’t another one. When my husband paid the bill they refused to remove my drink. I have never know such bad customer service over a £10 cocktail. They have lost a customer.

We were staying with friends in Portsmouth and they had booked this restaurant for Saturday night. Very busy on arrival, but it did quiten down a little. Popular with stag/hen parties. Amazing selection of rums and some very theatrical cocktails and great atmosphere with singing of sea shanties etc. The food was excellent and there was a good choice of dishes. The staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit.

Went here on a Wednesday evening with my partner. I would recommend booking as it was busy. The tastiest food I've had in ages. It was next level. All of the serving staff were really friendly and helpful and obviously enjoy working there. Great atmosphere with the sea shanty and loved the music in general. An all round 5 star experience- they've got everything spot-on and will definitely be recommending it and will be back!

What an amazing place! We stumbled across it on a recent trip and it was heaving at 4pm (which we took as a good sign)! We booked a table for an evening meal and it was still busy. With a couple of people with allergies the staff couldn't have been more attentive and reassuring. The staff particularly Grant were amazing in helping us to enjoy the experience and atmosphere of the pirate themed restaurant. The food was fantastic and the best ribs we have ever had. We are planning to go back to Portsmouth again just to go there!

Brilliant experience today James and Oscar done a great job of starting us off for the day with our bottomless brunch, pizza was amazing drinks were flowing like a running tap, highly recommended we will be back again. Thanks 😊😊

We came for a hen brunch - highly recommend! Servers were great, kept the drinks flowing - never once had to ask for more, kept the pizzas flowing also - delicious & hot. I would definitely do another brunch here for sure, it was great for a larger group too!

Cam and Chlo were amazing hosts only wish lasted longer, food was amazing and the drinks were top notch highly recommended.

Had an extremely enjoyable 7 hours at the Port Solent restaurant. Food was great and the service for the whole time was excellent. Great value on the lunch menu that led to the 2 for 1 drinks after 4pm. Great theming and atmosphere Choice of food on the lunch menu was ample as were the portions. A fantastic sunny afternoon had by all of us.

We had booked to come to Rapscallions as a 60th birthday with friends. As my husband wanted a Pirate theme we thought this would be a great choice - how very wrong we were! The table was booked for 7.30 and our party of 5 had placed our order by 8.00. We were seated upstairs, the room was very humid with condensation literally running down the windows. Restaurants are generally a place where people can hold a conversation - unfortunately - the music was cranked up to the level of a mosh pit at a gig and we struggled to hear eachother. By 8.30 no food had materialised - I had noted that a table who came in after us had been served, when I asked the waitress what was happeing with our order she said it was on the way. By 8.45 still no food and the second round of drinks we ordered had also not arrived. By 8.50 our party was hungry, deaf from the music and fed up with waiting. We again asked why the food was taking so long to be told the chef was " rushing through" our order now - worrying when they had the order for 45 mins. We all decided we would rather leave than wait for " rushed" food. We paid te drinks bill, no apology or concession was offered. Outside we spoke to a diner who's party had also waited an hour only to be served food that was cold and had to be returned. They had prioritised 2 large parties of around 15 persons and all other diners were left waiting. I feel Rapscallions is not ready to provide a professional service and may be "confused" in it's identity. Loud music suits a bar - don't have a room full of seated diners and subject them to deafening music. If large parties are identified in pre-bookings - contact the lead booker, provide them with a menu and asked them to pre-order their choices to allow the chefs to plan accordingly. Would I recommend - absoloutley not. Like a pirates treasure Rapscallions is best left buried.

Possibly the worst meal I have ever had!! Music was so loud the waitress struggled to hear us order. We waited for an hour for our food but were told on a couple of occasions it will be another 10 minutes. When the food arrived it was cold. Absolutely dire will certainly not be returning.

We came for one quiet drink and stayed for three! The cocktails are great and a bit special, but with more sensible prices than other places that present drinks with a bit of flair. What made the visit though were the staff, with an amazing knowledge of different rums and their special flavours. If you are visiting Southsea it’s worth setting aside a couple of hours to come here, chat to the team and try some brilliant drinks.

Outstanding service as always from the young man behind the bar, he’s really good at his job and seems to genuinely like it which makes the world of difference 😊

Food was spot on and drinks kept coming. Would recommend to anyone whose up for a shant and a good time #shivermetimberss

Great place! Came in tonight and had the hog roast which was delicious! I was served by a tattooed lady, I think her name was Lilley. Would definitely recommend and be back.

Great food & great cocktails, service excellent and attentive on a busy evening. Only one negative - please turn your music down a touch, or something a bit more fitting for the décor and ambience of the venue!
