Pret a Manger in West Berkshire

Popped in for a quick lunch with a work colleague. A small salad, sandwich and two canned drinks was £18. The food was nothing special. Then I bough a slice of carrot cake. £4.10. Those prices just seem mad. I know raw costs have rocketed but I can’t see myself going in there again. The restaurant is tatty with tiles falling off the wall and just generally looking like it needs a good clean. Next time I’ll get lunch from M&S across the road. It will be better and half the price.

I have always liked Prets. Good healthy tasty and fresh food. However I am very disappointed that they now only serve coffee in non recyclable disposable cups with plastic with sickle use plastic tops. Thus is described as a COVID measure but there is nothing unsafe about a clean ceramic cup. Very disappointed with this poor example re the climate emergency.

Went there for a coffee and after paid was surprised to see that they ate still using take-away cups. I don't like very milky coffee and only add a dash of milk, however, you don't have that option there as milk is just poured into the cup by a person making it. The coffee was undrinkable for me so just left the most of it. If you want a decent coffee go somewhere else because there you won't get one.

Am a Customer with the Pret Subscription, signed up a couple of months ago and ALL the stuff are very friendly and always do their best to give you service with a smile even when it is very busy in the shop. Special mention to Jake and Holly but all the staff do Pret Proud.

Kind friendly and professional service will be my abiding memory of this truly wonderful Pret. Excellent High Street location with great coffee and lunchtime treats . Come for the service though. Highly recommend.

This Pret is ok, yet could be so much better with friendlier customer service, and a cleaner environment in which to enjoy the standard Pret food and drink

Filthy dirty place. Tables and floor sticky and toilet floor looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since pre-lockdown….of March 2020…..Food was average.

Filthy coffee shop. Can’t imagine when floors were last washed and tables washed down to bases.Toilets a disgrace.

Stopped off for breakfast in Newbury, and how refreshing to get such great service at Pret ! The young lady ( with the green hair !) - who seemed to be on her own, was pleasant, efficient and very welcoming. Great service Pret !

There is not enough room for the pedestrian to walk in front of the shop, sometimes the car parked in front of the shop and there is room for only one person to pass trough. If Pret a Manger would not be there, their terrace and the car parked in front of the shop, you would have enough room for 6-7 people to pass through. Thank you.

A decently average Pret, no queuing, speedy service, though they didn't have my favourite chickpea sandwich. Back of the restaurant was a little chilly so head for sunny window if you're after warmth.

In short they have started putting stickers near the lip of re-usable cups which are difficult to get off but more importantly the adhesive residue attracts dirt/bacteria. I asked them not to do this but was met with sarcasm.

If you like myself like to sit outside a coffee shop and have a nice cuppa and a ciggy this is not the place for you. See photo. I was sat in this chair after buying a coffee and lit a cigarette, within seconds a member of staff shot out the door shouting you cant smoke there you have to be outside the barrier. So we did move and stood the other side of the barrier and within 4 inches of the chair i was sat in. There was nobody else sat outside at the time and this area is not covered its just an open space in the main street. I finished smoking then sat back down and finished my average coffee. 5 doors away is cafe uno where you can smoke outside and is far better coffee.

Went into Pret for a coffee and pain au raisin. Was served by Ami, she was a delight and a credit to your establishment. She greeted everyone and chatted away whilst working. If someone was leaving she called across to say goodbye. Such a refreshing change to the usual bored staff. She obviously enjoyed her job and it showed. The coffee was good and the pain au raisin warm and delicious.

I was very impressed by the crayfish salad and the mango juice I had for lunch. Staff were very friendly and inviting and I will be definitely returning as soon as possible.

C’mon Pret get your staff to cheer up and smile and generally be happy that customers keep them in a job!Yes we are buying just a roll and smoothie but I did spend good money on it and it’s not a tall order to get staff to smile and greet us instead of talking between themselves!

A wonderful sunshine welcome from Aime as my husband and I swung by to grab food on the go. True smiles will change this world and Aime made the experience smooth and perfect.

Visit at 2pm, no fresh food left. Both chillers empty. No one serving and was Ignored by staff present for over 5 minutes, so gave up and left went for lunch somewhere better. Just an overpriced coffee shop of which there are a number of better ones in Newbury. Presumably this place wants to go bust.

Not enough choice of sandwiches in the fridge, 11.30am only 2 choice of baguettes & 3 sandwiches. Been to lots of Pret's over the years the choice was disappointing.

I often grab a bite at Pret and do like the food. It is wholesome and well packaged. However being charged more money to sit in and eat is not fair. Also what is more annoying is that when you are charged more to sit in and eat there are often no tables both inside or out as I have noticed lots of youngsters and older people who are not actual customers sitting around outside and inside in groups annoying regular customers. The company really need to monitor who is hanging about with bikes etc outside. It really is quite intimidating particularly for lady customers who are alone and just looking for a table to sit and eat at. Staff however are friendly and helpful and I have no issues with them at all.

I use Pret often on a Saturday if I need a quick something to eat and a coffee and if the queues are too bad in the other coffee shops. Nice food, good coffee...nice ambience.

Perfect stop off for lunch . I had the meatball wrap and it exceeded all expectations. Great value for money with comfortable seating. Ideal for a quick bite whilst shopping in newbury as very central . Soups also very wholesome and tasty.

Went here while on holiday. Our family took us to Newbury for a shopping expedition and we had lunch here. The food was really good and we all enjoyed this place. It was very busy and we were lucky to get a table.

It is really nice one in the center. very good option for the breakfast, everything is so fresh and nice as well as staff. after a morning walk in the town, it is the place you have your coffee and freshly cooked brownies.

Nice decor, spacious. I personally am not too keen on the food. Everything I've had I've had better elsewhere, even in the area. But theres a good selection.

No creo que vuelva a impresionó este bvut me. Todo era genial y estaba allí con dos compañeros. Volvería de nuevo. Tratamos una amplia variedad así que puedo decir que todo fue muy cómodamente. Recomiendo encarecidamente!

Buena selección, caliente y fría. También ofrecen sopas. Cafés y otras bebidas. Se puede comer en o para llevar. Un poco caro para cada día, pero son agradables con algunos bocadillos rellenos diferentes a otras tiendas

Sándwiches, sopas, pastas y pasteles de algunos platos calientes como queso coliflor. Y sorprendentemente buen café. Espacioso interior, lleno de asientos, pero puede estar muy concurrido en las horas pico, aunque el contador de servicio es normalmente rápido.

Called in here for morning coffee and was surprised to find a spacious seating area,very light and airy.Staff were friendly and there was a good choice of food but would like to see a selection of gluten free food such as sandwiches.Will definately go there again.

There are numerous coffee shops in Newbury and this is my favourite. Salads and sandwiches are freshly made daily and there is a nice variety to chose from. This is not as crowded as some of Newbury coffee shops and slightly less noisy. The bacon and chicken ceasar baguette is great :)

I have to admit to coming here fairly regularly. There's a big choice of places around here to get lunch but I keep coming back here. I love their salads, my favourites being Chef's Chicken Salad and Tuna Niçoise. Service always with a friendly smile.

Visited for a birthday treat (including lovely but pricey kale crisps, of course!), but left child's dairy-free lunch in the car after buying the rest of lunch. Lovely staff member (didn't get name but had patterned trousers (!)), took care of everything - getting fresh dairy-free-child sandwiches made, and free cake to cheer us up. Really appreciated - thank you!

Please clean your floors! They are a disgrace! I couldn't sit anywhere in the cafe without my feet resting in a little pile of food.Staff were more interested in talking to one another than providing service. Still, nice that they sell fresh nectarines.

Check the meal before you go away. It's a sand from poorly clean salad. Check what you get for the money you pay! The main idea is that you can really rely on quality you are paying for, not this time. The problem is it take away, and this was discovered away from cafe, the lunch has ended before the beginning, very sad.

The pea and mint soup is to die for. Excellent service from lovely staff and great food. I really enjoy the hot selection with items such as holumi and avocado burritos and other veggie stuff not usually available on the high street/

Came in for lunch staff were very slow and more intrested in talking to each other in their language !! Our hot chocolate was spilt alldown side of mug n slopped on the tray n luke warm waited agesfor my toasted sandwich and when asked where it was they didnt appoligise ! We often come here but think i will be going else where as we spend 15 pound and to be fair not worth it

I like to eat in Pret a Manger, but is quite difficult to find food or a person with lactose intolerance, would be really nice to have more choices.

I am rather a big fan of Pret A Manger to be fair. I welcome a brand that delivers the more healthy options without additives but doesn't lack taste.I had the salmon teriyaki with chilli, rice balls and beans and a strong latte.I was welcomed and smiled at upon arrival and served quickly. The tables were quickly cleared as customers left and the restaurant looked clean and tidy.

We had the duck wrap and a coffee. The coffee was nice and hot and the duck warp was lovely and fresh with lots of duck and the right amount of salad in it.

I am not a huge fan of the chain store style of coffee houses, preferring independents, but a recent visit to Pret a Manger in Newbury may well change my set mind.Roomy dining room, airy, colourful and welcoming. Bustling busy staff making sure nobody waited long or that shelves were never empty. It was a cold day so I took a cup of Spicy Pumpkin soup from the 'Hot' cabinet, my partner a Lemon Chicken soup. I was surprised on two fronts, one the soup, despite being on a hot shelf, was piping hot, secondly it was packed with vegetables. Both soups were packed with flavour and the bread that was available was fresh, crispy and delicious.I will be trying Pret a Manger again...

Went here for lunch with our family on Boxing day and the food was very good and the staff were very friendly and efficient. Great coffee and sandwiches.

I am fortunate to work just a 5 minute walk from here, so I tend to get a takeaway from here most weekdays. I love their salads, they always feature so many nice touches. Their sandwiches and wraps are pretty good too.

Went here for breakfast and picked up a few sandwiches, juice and coffee. The early morning service with a smile and healthy wraps totally made a great start to my day. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

Great soup and sandwiches. Love this for a quick lunch in town - fresh sandwiches with great filings plus lovely fresh soups.

I have been to Newbury's Pret a Manger quite a few times. Very nice fresh food, always an enjoyable lunch if you don't want to take too long. Friendly staff. Sometimes a bit noisy near the coffee machines or disposal areas.

During a life of business meetings in the city, I had come to like visiting Pret. I have to admit to hating the coffee, as nit a single Pret serves even a half decent cup of coffee, but the sandwiches on the whole were reasonable. I had lived in Newbury for 20 years and just as I was leaving a Pret opened. On a visit to Newbury earlier this year I was in need of some lunch and stopped off to see what was available and what if anything was new. However, on this occasion (accepting that it might be better at other times) I found this to be a poor example of a brand I had used often. It's huge and in comparison to its size it offered little produce. It also appeared to be understaffed as it was not busy, but what tables it had were full of litter. So little choice (empty shelves) and littered tables. It was 1pm and either the store is so popular it can't keep up with demand or it genuinely doesn't have enough staff. It's a shame as I wouldn't go back and would prefer to go without.

One of the best fast food sandwich takeouts..I love there rage of sandwiches. always freshly made...with lots variety. lots of healthy options. great drinks too...

Reliable, comfortable and a good snack selection to go with the coffees. And enough space to relax despite it being busy.

Not thought of reviewing Pret before but this is a good one. Immaculately clean, light and airy and very comfortable especially on a Sunday morning. Good place for pit stop when in Town. TD

Great food as you would expect from Pret. But you pay extra to sit inside which seems ridiculous. I guess the argument is that you pay face value if you 'take away'.

This is by far one of the best PAMs we've visited. The usual Pret fresh, quality offerings, but the whole 'fast food' experience is improved by their being plenty of quality seating, space and staff.The team are friendly and efficient, and it's all housed in what is one of the largest and best laid out Pret locations we've been to.It's a standard PAM, but just more relaxing than most of it's type.

Stopped off for a quick coffee and sandwich. Excellent choice of savouries...good sandwiches, good coffee....not the absolute best, but not bad at all. Nice comfy cafe with outdoor seating if you are so inclined on Northbrooke Street in Newbury, which is pedestrianised for most of the day. A good addition to Newbury cafe society.

The food here is up to the usual Pret standards, so there are no issues here. Just don't lift the toilet seats. I can only assume that they've employed Mr Magoo as the cleaner as the filth under the seat and around the hinges is disgusting.

This place does exactly what it says on the tin, good lunch food, coffee and friendly staff. At peek lunch time it can be hard to get a table

I work around Newbury and usually get my coffees and lunches from this place. The staff are very friendly. The ambience is very good. I recommend this place if you are around Newbury to visit atleast ones and give it a try

We stopped by here for a quick lunch and we were pleasantly surprised with all the healthy options! So much to choose from....there are fresh ham, chicken, cheesed sandwiches with salad, there are several salads with all different meats and fruits ready to eat etc....we ate the chicken salad with dressing separate and I had the protein bomb, a small little pot filled with crayfish, 1/2 boiled egg, quinoa, beans etc...it was absolutely delicious and perfect to keep on touristing. It's in the middle of the walking corso and highly recommend it for something good and healthy. It was clean and good toilets too.

We really enjoyed the food there. The soups are very tasty and baguettes are delicious and fresh. They even give you free water. This is my favourite fast food restaurant.

Good food, clean, excellent service. This chain of cafes has fresh food and excellent coffee. This is a great place for breakfast and lunch. We also ate in Pret à Manger in Liverpool. Same standards.

Spotlessly clean and open early for a lovely breakfast. Not much choice of hot breakfast but croissants etc were tasty and filling.

It's lovely! I just wish they would do a gluten free sandwich of some sort! Staff are very good, clean and open space, and lovely tea and coffee..

This well loved lunch eatery is a very welcome addition to the main street in this busy market town in West Berkshire.It is large spacious and state of the art Pret offering the healthy fresh food for which this chain is famous. Great coffee and cakes too. A very nice touch is the self service cold water on tap.Nice loos too.
