We were driving through the area and stopped for some food. In spite of the fact it was early lunchtime, we ordered the afternoon tea, which included a sandwich of your choice and cake or scone plus of course the drink. The sandwiches were delicious and the whole thing was laid out so nicely. The cost was £14.75 each, good for the amount we had. We ate outside as the sun was shining but inside is also dog friendly. We were served very quickly in spite of them being busy. Highly recommend.

This popular cafe is situated in the middle of Ripley village, and, on a damp Monday, I met some friends here for lunch. At just after 12, it was already quite crowded and noisy, but we managed to find a table upstairs. Had to go down again to order, but a very good range of food is available. I had a three cheese and onion marmalade toasted ciabatta, which came with salad and some crisps. It was hot and enjoyable. My friends had sandwiches, which were really bursting with filling. I enjoyed my black coffee, but...as others have said, the coffee mugs are awful, they are worn, stained and look grubby - new china mugs are desperately needed. This is a very old building, and, on a wet day, the upstairs was very dark and gloomy. The treads of the stairs are quite narrow, so unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. I know that many people love it here, but not quite my 'cup of tea' - a large dog almost blocking the way to our table didn't help! Sitting outside on a fine day would probably be much quieter and more pleasant.

Quite disappointed as in the past this has been a lovely spot to meet up for a family breakfast, followed by a nice walk on Ripley Green. Haven't been in a while and had been looking forward to it. The coffee mugs, as mentioned in other people's reviews are really tired looking now. Mine had frayed bits of plastic on the top of the mug and the saucer it was on was so faded - not great. The staff really were not very helpful or friendly while we were ordering and the customer service was quite lacking. As we left there were 3 of them chatting to each other behind the coffee bar so I said "Goodbye and Thank you" -not one of them looked up and they just continued chatting to each other. I shan't be rushing back!

Beautiful building and a great choice of food and range of coffees. Also dog friendly which is what swung it for us. Upstairs is very cosy with a choice of comfy sofas or tables and chairs. Sadly, the service is lacking, not in efficiency but customer interaction. The staff were not friendly at all, did not make us feel welcome and we felt almost ignored. There were none of the normal little checks to see if everything was OK, did we need anything. When I asked for sauce it was delivered but there was an air of it being an inconvenience. I'm so glad I declined to pay the service charge, which is requested at the time of ordering and paying. This I feel is very cheeky since at that point there has been no service given! Would definitely return for the food and drink but staff need some customer service training.

Our first visit. Coffee excellent, scone excellent. The rustic interior and hard wood seats were simply not for us. The two young staff were very efficient but didn’t interact with customers. One of the things to enjoy in a coffee shop is seeing staff with a ready smile, not necessarily talkative, but at least looking happy to see and to serve you. We will not be returning.

This is my hands down my favourite cafe, run by lovely people in a gorgeous building. I’ve been coming here for over ten years and the coffee and cakes are hands down the best in the area, you just cannot go wrong. Being such a fab spot it does get busy but the cosy relaxed layout of furniture upstairs means there’s always room to squeeze in, and the staff manage the busier times with grace and a sense of humour! It’s very dog friendly which is so refreshing - the closest thing you can get to a cosy living room with the added bonus of being inside what must be a listed building, worth a visit in and of itself. I love taking friends to Pinnocks or just having some time to relax in the library upstairs with a book, but I’ve always felt welcome regardless of how busy it can get and I can’t recommend it enough!

Had a really bad experience at this place I got there just after they opened and the water boiler was not on yet and had to wait 15 minutes before I could order this could have been the boiler playing up so I can let them off. They have a huge selection of coffee beans so I was looking forward to trying one the one I picked said it had a caramel taste, this coffee came in a plastic cup and tasted awful. I only paid £3.30 for this coffee and I was surprised as the price when I payed as I would expect to pay more when you are being offered different types of coffee. I ordered one of there home made sausage rolls if my coffee didn’t taste like puddle water i would have finished it by the time my roll came as it took 25 minutes to come out, the sausage roll was not that great had a soggy pastry on the bottom and I left half off it it cost around £4. Every one around me seemed to enjoy the cakes but it was 9am and I didn’t not fancy that but I guess I made a mistake. Not worth a visit I could have just been on a bad day as the reviews seem rate this place and that was the reason I visited. Just to clarify I come for a long line of Italian coffee drinkers :) so please believe me when I say the coffee sucked and the plastic cup it came in does not help, the plastic cup probably has 100 other different coffees soaked into.

I met my sister for a much needed catch up. We had coffees, pancakes and then tea too (we stayed hours!). It was chilly and draughty when I arrived (they'd just opened and it's a very old building) but the welcome was warm and made up for it! However, the thing that made me give 5 stars was that coffee was spilt upstairs and dripped through the floorboards onto my sister's light grey coat. The manager, without missing a beat, told us to take it over the road to the dry cleaner and they'd pick up the bill. Went back when I collected the coat and had coffee and cake - delicious! Now looking forward to meeting my parents there and another long catch up with my sister in the next 2 weeks.

Very disappointing experience today. We had been looking forward to checking Pinnock’s out since we moved to the area, but it was always shut when we tried. Finally went today, and despite no sign on the door saying they are not dog friendly, the girl waited til we were half way through our order to say downstairs is actually a DOG FREE AREA. Strange as there was a dog bowl on the floor by the door!!! She said we had to go upstairs with our dog, we were made to feel very unwelcome so we changed our order to take away. Then we were told to wait outside for it in the snow and cold. I’m pregnant and didn’t hugely appreciate that. Smoothie was nice but the Coffee was terrible couldn’t finish it, sausage roll had no flavour so we gave it to our unwelcome dog as we sat on the wet cold tables outside. We went to Nest down the road! Much better coffee, flavoursome sausage roll, friendly staff and a treat for our dog!!! Completely opposite experience! GO TO NEST!

I like to have my drink at the same time as my food but at Pinnocks they simply cannot be bothered to accommodate. This is of course for their benefit and convenience as the drink station is seperate and there is no communication between the two. Understand this is how it works but if they have one customer coming through spending their hard earned money here and they request that they would like their drink with the food not half an hour before the food then at the very least you could try to accommodate and they did not. Infact my tea arrived straight away and the food much later I said again that I wanted it at the same time or at least close and was told that they could not take it back as it was already made ....I actually did make a fuss and they begrudgingly took it back which made me feel extremely uncomfortable . I am probably unusual but isnt it about the customer and their needs...this restaurant is not cheap lovely food but serving staff are not trained properly and at times rude especially when under pressure and busy that is not good enough and Pinnocks needs to remember that without customers they are nothing. They rely on the fact that people just accept substandard service and prefer to say nothing . Its a shame nice place but zero customer service.

Pinnock’s came recommended to me by a friend, and my partner and I went on one occasion and had an ok experience, although noticed huge cobwebs, and wondered whether the place ever got cleaned. Then today we took my parents and our 4 day old baby for our first venture out with our new child and the grandparents, as a bit of a treat for lunch. I ordered a jacket potato with cheese and beans, a fairly simple dish! When it arrived, I poured the grated cheese over the potato, and thought the cheese looked a little suspect. On closer inspection I noticed green/white mould on a couple of pieces of the cheese. I returned my plate to the young lad at the till and pointed it out to him. He apologised, and said they would re-do it for me. The supervisor then came over and told me that she had checked the whole batch of the cheese and that it was all fine, and asked if there was actually any mould on the cheese. She basically insisted that there was nothing wrong with it and I felt as though she was suggesting that I was lying. Now as someone who ran fresh food counters for many years in a large UK supermarket chain, and also carried out internal food safety audits across the region with the highest level of food safety training, I can assure you that I know what mouldy cheese is! The supervisor offered to re-make my meal and offered mozzarella or feta cheese. I asked for the mozzarella. When the 2nd meal was brought out to me, the cheese looked like it was from the same batch, so I checked it over once again. There was more mould! Having lost my patience, I took the plate to the kitchen area to show the supervisor what mould looked like! Green mould. She apologised again. How can any reputable eatery serve mouldy cheese twice!? She told me that she would take it off the bill. By this point, the whole of my family had finished their meals and were ready to leave. So I left without having eaten! I eat out a lot as I’m often away from home with work, and never in my life have I left somewhere without eating!!

We sat downstairs as there was a table just as we went in (although it was busy) but upstairs is really quirky and cosy. Quaint, friendly, good cakes, but very limited parking and no espresso. So if you love a mocha or a cappuccino you may be disappointed. Now after 10 days in the UK, I ask: why is it so hard to find a properly steamed and frothed latte in this country? Everything so far has been reminiscent of my in-laws’ milky coffee with liquid milk poured over coffee. Maybe Melbourne coffee scene/art hasn’t reached the UK? Could be that’s how people like it here, or maybe they don’t know any better. Come to Australia for good coffee ;-)

If you like coffee this is THE place in Ripley - they serve fresh-ground drip coffee (no espresso machines in sight) from a variety of blends, take away or drink in, and the coffee always arrives hot but closer to drinking temp than an 'Americano' style (espresso based) coffee. Cakes are varied and good&fresh;, with the vegan brownies and Russell's Mum's Fruit Cake sought-after (and fast-selling). Meals are also great, there's a selection of tea and hot chocolate, all served in a quaint venu (old cottage-style building, low ceilinged) by friendly staff. Sometimes very busy - popular for lunches and with the cycling crowd, packed during the Ripley Farmer's Market - but well worth a special trip if you're a coffee and cake fan :-)

A wonderful place either for a coffee and cake or for a meal! The building has character and the staff are great! The prices are a little high but the quality is so good! Highly recommend for anyone travelling through or nearby!

This place was recommended to me by a friend when we were discussing where we could meet for coffee and a catch up - I needed somewhere that i could bring my little dog with me too. I've since visited twice, and on both occasions the building has been packed and buzzing. Last time we shared a table with another couple who were lunching there, as there were no other free tables. The food is good, with generous portions and a varied menu to choose from. With parking available either just outside or in the nearby village car park, I'll definitely return again.

Pinnocks is a quirky experience. It's full of nondescript furniture that is well worn but so comfortable.Upstairs you can lounge in saggy sofas and downstairs enjoy the throng. Excellent selection of coffees, light snacks and meals.Soak up the English eccentricity.

I am now a regular although I do not live close by. The coffee is superb - try no. 6 - and the food is consistently excellent. For breakfast try the toasted banana bread with greek yogurt, honey nuts and seeds.

As opposed to a previous review in Guildford KALM cafe, this place is genuine and always good. Welcoming, great coffee and not overpriced or do you feel exploited by silly prices. Fair, honest and genuine service on every occasion I have been. Truly in business for all the right reasons,

Always a great atmosphere and warm welcome. Always plenty of friendly and efficient staff and not once have I ever been kept waiting more than a few minutes for my order to arrive. Regularly visiting for over 2 years as I live in the local area and we see ourselves as very lucky to have Pinnocks so close to us.

I like it because it’s a bit different. Its in a nice old house with a quaint upstairs area, the kids love it. We found the coffee tasted really odd but the breakfasts were good. Had avocado and bacon on toast. The pancakes looked good as well. It’s a quality place.

Went here for a late breakfast. Don’t expect a fry up. Full English not on the menu. However, they do have a wonderful selection which does not disappoint. The bacon and sausage baguettes are wonderful and would go down well at any time of day. Baguettes were lovely and fresh. Our table also had the cereal and banana bread which was delicious. Hot chocolate was lovely and service pretty good. Would go back again if in the area

Great place to pop in for light lunch or tea and take your worn out pooch with you. Service can be a little grumpy and ill mannered but the cakes are brilliant.

Although we only live a few miles away, this was our first visit to Pinnock's Coffee House. What a refreshing place it is. Very pleasant staff, great coffee, unctuous chocolate cake. Lovely cosy feeling. We sat downstairs with the large wooden tables.

We called in to Pinnock's following a visit to Clandon House. It was a cold Saturday morning and by the time we arrived it was lunch time. Pinnock's do some fantastic sandwiches with plenty of variations. What they also do as well as great coffee, is fantastic cakes! We had a very enjoyable lunch, thawed out and left feeling relaxed and able to survive until dinner time! Highly recommended!

First visit to this delightful coffee shop. We had come to Ripley before and visited another establishment just a little way up the road which I have to say did not offer anywhere near such as good such good food or good value for money as this place . The sandwiches had generous And tasty feelings. Each was served with a salad garnish and crisps. The bread was also very moorish not your regular “supermarket” bread. Coffee was also very nice and they seem to have an outstanding array. The cakes look lovely too but we decided against it as we were so full from the sandwiches. I would highly recommend this place.

Spontaneous date night. Popped in, on the off chance as we were staying in the hotel next door. They managed to squeeze us in (I would suggest making a booking as it was so busy) and I’m so grateful they did! Food was first class, I highly recommend the scallops. Great service, with a smile, from our lovely waitress (Ellie). The place was really busy and it had a great atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again.
