Only stopped in for a pint but good atmosphere and the barman was pretty chill

This is the most cosy pub in Guildford. Fantastic relaxing atmosphere, quirky furniture, great beer!

One of the few places in Guildford that can be relied on for decent beer. Really nice bubbly yet cosy ambience.

Great local , watched the rugby, England v Scotland, pub busy and buzzy, had no problems getting served , as there was enough staff working, great selection of beers and spirits , can't comment on food as did not eat . The pub had people of all ages, all enjoying a good night.

A good winter pub, no food, but a good selection of bar snacks. A lot of self-service drinks out of the fridge, which is a bit strange

Good atmosphere and the decor was inviting. Nice and warm too, with lots of space. Obviously not cheap but enjoyed having a drink here

What an absolutely lovely, cosy, welcoming pub. Very friendly staff, delicious mulled wine and mulled gin and we could happily have spent hours sitting by the fire.

The range of beers has gone down hill this past year. No idea why. Just like any other pub now.

A very popular pub amongst the locals. Wood burning fire place, charcoal beams, yellow warm lighting, perfect for a winter evening. The beer are very decently priced also. It is tucked in behind the busy high street. Would highly recommend.

Fabulous place... Real good old fashioned pub

Was visiting the area, dropped on for a couple of pints. Liked it so much came back the next day! Comfortable, casual and homely.

I was here during the week; fantastic bar with an immense range of bottled beer and one the best draught lineups in Guildford. Highly recommend.

A very welcoming atmosphere!!! Matt gave me a variety of the draft lagers and spirits to try and safe to say the head was hurting the next day. Regardless the service was impeccable and I was looked after right until the end of my night . Safe to say where I’ll be celebrating my birthday. Thanks for having us xo

I've been drinking in the Royal Oak, on and off, for over 20 years and have seen it go through loads of phases of being bad, OK, good and great. Each has been attributable to the landlord and right now, Russell has the place at an all time high. Wet pubs are few and far between these days as making them pay is hard, but the Royal Oak proves you can. Maybe it is down to the great idea of allowing customers to order in from their favourite takeaway. I've never seen anyone do so, but when a pub can't make food pay so it's not worthwhile, what a great idea.

The bartender (girl with lovely pair of glasses) was so kind and welcoming.

Although it's a small pub, what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for with its charm and fantastic service from its staff. Offering a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and located just off of the High Street, The Royal Oak is definitely the place to go for drinks with friends. The only downside is that they don't provide food but you're than welcome to bring your own food.

Like being in someone's cozy living room, only with a friendly bar and service. The beams and sofas add character and they even have a decent selection of low alhohol beers. Close to the high street. Highly recommended.

I actually rather like this pub ... Right next to the graveyard..gives it a feeling of quiet you don't expect. Nice outside area if s little small .. but they have done the best they can given the space.. friendly bar staff

I visited here this evening. Popped in for a pint. Working away for the week and I was pleasently pleased. Good drinks selection and bar snacks. The bar is very clean. Dog friendly and games available to play in the bar area. I would visit again.

Lovely little find and very reasonably price. Popped in for a drink on a friend's birthday and we were not disappointed. A warm fire in the go and great service from Steven. We will be returning

My team and I enjoyed our team Christmas party at the Royal Oak in mid December and we were very impressed. The drink was reasonably priced, the atmosphere was brilliant and the team there treated us like VIP’s. Thank you all. The Team at Lorenzo’s Cafe

Saturday afternoon visit after having some lunch else where. Been so long since we last were here. This is a lovely traditional old fashioned pub hidden behind Holy Trinity Church on the High Street. It doesn't do food, just crisps, etc. Open fire and old-fashioned High back winged chairs (that could do with some major tlc). Lovely bar staff so friendly and chatty. We'll worth a visit

The Royal Oak is a great pub. There's a wide range of drinks available. It's not the biggest pub in the world, but I guess that means you don't have to walk far to the bar!

I said I was looking Fullers ESB and the bar tender came up with a fanciful story about how it’s no longer made (which of course is not true) - told the owner he should educate his staff which he said he won’t pass on my comments. The beer they had London Pride was awful (and no I didn’t take it back) I left the pub instead.

Been coming here for nearly 20 years on and off, and seen the pub itself go through a number of image / service / food approaches over the years. One thing that lets it down these days is the lack of customer service - case in point standing at the bar for 10 minutes waiting for whomever is on duty that day to reappear and serve. 9 times out of 10 it's a team member having a chat outside and neglecting the bar - well surely of you're on duty, your priorities are making sure the customers are looked after? Fantastic array of products and good beer - get the attention to detail with the service and you'll be laughing.

What a lovely pub in the heart of Guildford Town centre, lovely staff and the in house dogs are a treat. Will definitely come back again, expecially for the niknak crisp wich I haven't had in years

Probably the best pub in Guildford. Real ale selection is good with guest ales too. Staff friendly and lovely sitting outside next to the graveyard in the summer.

No food just snacks. But the beer selection is very good. ...and there's live music sometimes.

I have been walking past this pub for about 40 years and never been in. I eventually ended up there last night (a Saturday). It has beautiful old beams on the ceiling and arm chairs round a fire place which looked very cosy. There’s a few tables out the back which overlook an old graveyard which is a bit different! There’s a great choice of drinks and snacks. A few board games knocking about. A very enjoyable experience. We only stayed for one pint as we were doing a bar crawl but will definitely be returning

Lovely pub, peaceful interior, small but pleasant rear yard, and the loveliest couple of dogs you could wish to encounter. Slightly off the beaten track (though only a very short walk from the high street) and all the better for it

I love The Royal Oak because there is always a friendly crowd there and helpful bar staff. It's a cozy oasis in the middle of town. It also has some great beers!

Went to the Royal Oak for the first time yesterday, what a great pub, will definitely be going back. The selection of drinks on offer are amazing and the atmosphere was great. The staff were lovely, especially Brad & James who saved my arse (literally). Thanks guys for the safety pins!

Best pub in Guildford. Brilliant selection of bottled and cans beers with take out option. What’s on taps gets changed and rotated while at keeping on a few staple beers as to please all. Really nice staff, well managed. Don’t do food, personally in many ways that’s what makes this a great place to drink, it’s town centre so go out for food but go drinking here.

This pub did not do food, but the person serving was really nice, helpful and friendly, which is the reason for the high rating. The place was slightly dark and the floor was sticky. ***The owner of this place very nicely took the time to respond to my rewiew. I did not realise that you allow customers to order their own food. I like this boozer. Having first drunk in here in the late 90s when I was underage. It's not much bigger than an average living room, but that's part of the charm. I look forward to revisiting.

It really is a lovely pub. Incredibly well appointed inside and good ;and interesting) range of beers. Only let down was the absolute zero interaction at the bar - the person serving literally didn’t speak to me - he looked at me (no smile) I asked him politely for a drink, he poured it (with a bit of difficulty so got assistance and no interaction from her either) put it down, brought card reader (didn’t tell me what it would be nor show me the reader) and I paid. I seemed to be making up for his silence by thanking and pleasing like an idiot. Oh well, wouldn’t stop me coming back - but probably not on my own.

Drank here many years ago but in recent years not great. Now a first class pub again in the heart of Guildford. Gray beers, busy and good ambience. Plus the two great border terriers wandering round! Great pub again.

We enjoyed a drink at this pub which is a little off the beaten track up a small alleyway. We had a drink out the back of the pub which has been charmingly adapted to accommodate at least 5 separate seating areas under umbrellas and amidst lots of lovely garden flowers and plants. The interior was olde worlde and looked snug, but all seats were taken hence we went outside. Would return.

First pub visited on a weekend visit to Guilford. Found it from looking on Trip Advisor. Disappointed they weren't serving food on a Friday Evening but had crisps and a nice pint instead. Good choices of beers and snacks.

Really nice traditional pub. The Surrey hills beer they had on tap was excellent. The table service was very attentive.
