Patisserie Valerie in Basingstoke and Deane

Visiting from abroad, was delighted by the professional service. The Mocca we ordered passed the spoon test. Was so smooth Id let my daughter date it. Ive got nearly a decade in the coffee industry, hands down the best one ive ever tasted. Eggs Royale, perfect eggs. Made me write this review I was so delighted. Only thing I can suggest is that they get a salt and pepper shaker! -Rick

Staff were nice but it was very slow service. It took 30 minutes to receive tea and coffee. Wouldn't come back for this reason.

Whilst the food when we eventually got it was good (pancakes with banana and blue berry the service wasn't. The waitress was doing her best but they were obviously understaffed as tables hadn't been cleared. Couldn't eat inside because of this. Food took 30 mins to arrive and we had to twice chase up our coffees.

We went for the "afternoon tea for two" and it was a huge disappointment... First of all, they said that they did not have decaf coffee which is absurdly strange. We ordered a double espresso and a soya latte. The espresso was ok, but the latte was warm in temperature and very bland. The 3 types of sandwiches were: salmon; cucumber and Philadelphia; and ham. They were made without any attention and honestly, you can get better sandwiches in any supermarket. The 2 scones were really nice, they were the only good thing in the whole experience... The cakes and French macarons were old and stale. The cakes were dry and the layer of cream was separated from the base. The French macarons were dry, stale, flavourless and incredibly chewy. This is not a Patisserie.

Absolute joke. Gifted voucher expired with no notice or warning. Then got offer to extend the voucher for TWICE the cost of walking in off the street on TOP of the original cost of the afternoon tea. Absolutely shocking customer service. Very very very disappointed for the family who thought they were giving us a nice treat, Avoid this company.

I used to love the place, however things have changed…. We stopped for coffee and cakes this Sunday afternoon. It was not that busy yet it took us 20 minutes to get our 2 coffees…. Cakes are over priced (nearly £5 for a millefeuille!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Next time, we will pass and will go somewhere else.

It was great the last time we came however this time we were left waiting outside with no attention for over half an hour before we went and got someone. We had to do this twice before eventually being served. When the drinks came out one of them was incorrect and we had to ask for the correct replacement. However the food was lovely just a shame it took an hour to get it sorted. We do appreciate it was busy but people who arrived after us got served before us which is where the irritation came in.

We had to wait between 25-30 min for the food and when the food arrived it was very average. I had the Caesar salad and the chicken was limp and the croutons were soggy.

First of all, this is not a fast food establishment. Be prepared to wait as the staff are very attentive and friendly. Secondly, it is not cheap. It has a great menu with a good selection to cater for all tastes. It gets really busy. People spend ages just chatting over a coffee eating cake watching the world go by. If you like this slower pace of life, this is the perfect place for you. It’s clean and it has a lovely atmosphere.

What was supposed to be a pleasant get together with my brother and daughter ended up being the worst experience I have had in a reataurant/cafe. We ordered 2 small coffees and a small cappuccino, carrot cake and 2 eggs Benedict. The two small coffees were served along with my cake, but I was left waiting over 30 minutes for my small cappuccino. I asked the waitress and she said it was coming, after 5 minutes I asked her again and she seemed annoyed that I asked her a second time!! Eventually another waitress brought a LARGE cup of the most unappetising sloppy watery brown liquid! I told her I had asked for a small cup, and she said not to worry as it was “on the house”! I felt I couldn’t complain that it was undrinkable as she said it was free, and we continued to eat our lunch which was mediocre at best! The carrot cake was so dry, but just about edible. Finally the waitress brought the bill and we spotted that my cappuccino had not been deducted as stated. She took the bill away and eventually a waiter came back with the bill. As soon as my daughter tapped her card and paid, the waiter said in the most surly aggressive tone that he had taken off the coffee “but he shouldn’t have” we were so shocked that he said this and I reminded him that I waited over 30 mins for the coffee and the waitress said it was on the house! And he snapped back in such an angry tone that we should still be paying for it and that it was only the difference between the large coffee and small one that was on the house. I didn’t even want a large coffee!! We felt totally shocked and bullied by his aggressive ill mannered behaviour and needless to say we will never go back and would warn everybody to stay away.

Poor Slow Service / Poor Food / Poor Coffee / Appalling Manners from some hot headed waiter who was rude, aggressive , unhelpful and who tried to overcharge us. We will not be eating here again.

Terrible service here. Honestly dont know how they can charge so much for such basic food and then provide such bad service too. Youre better off going to pret a manger. Its a shame because it was much better when i came 6 months ago, although it seemed to have a better manager then.

Arrived, given menus, told to take a seat - great, wasn’t told we needed to order at till and after a while sitting waiting we ordered by phone. There was a tip added to the order that we could not alter which I don’t like but whatever. After about 15 minutes the cake comes, but nothing else. Then about 20 mins the tea an coffee arrive for our cream teas - but no scones or anything. Ask several times when it’s coming and get told the chef is sorting it…. Eventually came out an hour after ordering and told there wasn’t a ticket for it. Not happy, won’t be back. Nobody seemed to be interested, and during our visit a family had been waiting as long as us for a few drinks, and a couple walked out because they’d been waiting half an hour for a cup of tea! We would have left sooner however we had already paid - this is why I hate being made to tip instead of being able to choose to tip

I have been to this branch on three occasions now. First time the service was so slow due to staff shortages which can’t always be helped so we though we might give it another go. Second visit was again slow service with both a man and woman behind the counter having a blazing row. The woman flounced off out of the cafe glaring at members of the public. They got the order wrong but with everything going on, we decided to take the food brought rather than complain. I had decided I wouldn’t go back to be honest but my daughter was desperate to go in and have her favourite cake which is a Madame Valerie. You might wonder, how wrong can it get buying two drinks and two cakes right? The worst experience so far, that’s how bad! Firstly we sat at the table with a very stressed looking waitress ignoring us for at least ten minutes. She could see us trying to attract her attention but refused to make any eye contact. Eventually a young man waiter passed and I asked if we could please order. He apologised for the delay and took our order which was just two cakes. Mine arrived and was ok but my daughter took one mouthful and said it’s stale. She didn’t want to complain but at these prices, you expect it to be fresh so I called the waiter over and explained. He apologised and replaced it. This was equally stale so I called him over (feeling really embarrassed) and again told his it was stale. The next thing we see is both himself and the manager squeezing all the cakes in the window. He came over with another and we ended up having a long discussion where he told me that the manager there was so bad that he was leaving and that seven members of staff had left in the past two weeks. He also told me that the manager would never tell the staff when the cakes were delivered and therefore the staff never know how fresh the cakes were! I had already eaten mine by now but my daughter decided not to bother with hers. The waiter apologised once more and said he would not charge for the cake. In all honesty, I should have refused to pay for the whole thing based on this experience but I felt bad for the waiter and didn’t want to cause him any further issues. I won’t be going back there anytime soon and certainly wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Management, if you are reading this, you really need to get your house in order!

Cafe is conveniently located within Festival Place shopping mall, with plenty of inside and concourse seating. We had a gift voucher for afternoon tea and 4 slices of takeaway cake. It didn’t take long for drinks to arrive and the afternoon tea tier followed within a short time - sandwiches looked and tasted freshly made and the scones warmed. We couldn’t quite finish everything and staff happily “boxed to go” Cafe wasn’t busy (although the mall was) and although the cafe could do with a refurb, the interior was clean plus all staff helpful and friendly.

I have been a bit disappointed visiting in the past but it had improved greatly. Very nice man Chris. Almond croissant was still warm. Excellent service although in fairness we were the first customers of the day.

3 stars for service. Pleasant waitress and swift service.No stars for cheese scones. Rock hard and more like a brick than a scone. Even heating it up slightly in the microwave didn’t disguise the fact it was stale. When asked how they were we said they were stale but still got charged for them!! The chef came out after another few minutes to tell the staff that there was food waiting !! food came, it was tepid and the chips were cold.. I called the waitress over, who was most anoyed to be told that my food was cold and I would like it replacing, after having waited over 7 minutes between my wife's food arriving and then this food... my wife had nearly finished by this point... The waitress huffed something about 'it has to be prepared' , but as i pointed out,.,, it had been sat o nthe serving bar for about 5 minutes... she took the plate under duress and came back 3 mins later with the chips replaced, but 2 cold sandwiches.. no effort to even warm them up.. no 'sorry for the issues', just pure rudness and ignorance.. thats my last ever trip to this chain...

I hadn’t been before, so decided to go for lunch with my husband. Started off ok but as the restaurant got busier, the service deteriorated. We ordered our lunch, mine arrived and we had to chase my husbands. Mine was nearly finished. I could see food piling up on the service hatch to be given out. Staff were ignoring it and seating more customers. One waitress walked past the hatch so many times, I wanted to go over and get the food myself. Consequently my husband food was cold and no apology for the lateness. The waitress then proceeded to argue with my husband! We eventually got the food but was sure it wasn’t a new fresh plateful. They were clearly use staffed and stressed. Food expensive for what it was and won’t be going again.

Shocking and amazed you are still in business we stood at the wait here point for over ten minutes ur staff walked past and ignored us not even a we will be with u shortly so we will never come here again and we weren’t the only ones . You should be thankful that people are willing to use your service not treat us like this

My wife and I have often visited Patisserie Valerie in the past because their cakes in particular the Strawberry Gateau has always been worth the extra cost. Called in to Basingstoke for my birthday and the gateau has totally changed, much smaller and different in taste and texture. When I queried the change I was just ignored. If this is a change to save money they will loose out through lack of custom. Such a shame!

Had a groupon voucher for afternoon tea and used it here yesterday.Friendly server and the tea was excellent and extremely good value. Great selection of sandwiches - cucumber, smoked salmon, egg mayo, ham and chicken with sun dried tomatoes and the most delicious mini cheese quiches. There were 2 yummy scones each and the little cakes were super tasty especially the Victoria sponge. Plus unlimited tea and coffee.Will definitely return
